It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Lina Ray has a knack for pairing up perfect couples as a professional matchmaker in San Francisco, but her well-meaning, highly traditional Indian family wants her to get married. When her Auntie Kiki introduces Lina to the bachelor from hell at her sister's wedding in India, Lina panics and blurts out, "I'm engaged!" Because what's the harm in a little lie?

Now Raja is in San Francisco and wants Lina to find a suitable bride for his brother. Though they live oceans apart, Lina longs to bridge the gap. But when her fantastic fib catches up with her, life is suddenly like a Bollywood flick gone horribly wrong. Lina may have an over-developed fantasy life, but she certainly never imagined things would turn out like this!

Anjali Banerji's writing is funny and her descriptions of events are so evocative that you can almost see the colors smell the aromas and taste the food. Her descriptions of people also vividly conjure up three dimensional individuals. However, the plot and characters need to be fleshed out more - even when it's a frothy read.

Having liked the author's other novel, Invisible Lives, I thought I would try this one out as well. However, it was somewhat dissapointing. The storyline closely resembles my favorite South Asian chick-lit book, For Matrimonial Purposes by Kavita Daswani, which is a much better read. The characters were under developed, the story line superficial and lacking in sufficient detail. The cover design is cute though, so don't be fooled!

Literary cotton candy.......2007-06-03

I enjoy the occasional indulgence in chick lit and finding quality stuff can sometimes be a challenge. This one attracted me because of my budding interest in Indian culture. While it was a fairly cute novel, it was sheer fluff. Some of it was a fun read but, overall, it was all calories and no nutritional value.

Yes it is a quick and easy read, but such a predictible soap opera/Bollywood story with very little development that you can really do without it. This genre is booming and there are some great books out there, I would advocate trying to find another title to buy

A Delightful read............2006-06-08

Imaginary Men is one of those books you'll read from cover to cover without putting it down! A fun, whimsical and enchanting story. I look forward, with much anticipation, to Anjali's subsequent books!

This is not a book for musical wimps. It is thick, densely written and profusely illustrated with musical examples of the things Rosen, a well-known concert pianist as well as author and lecturer, writes about: the music of the Romantic period, particularly as exemplified by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Bellini, and Schubert, in the light of their times. It is also highly rewarding if you can make it all the way through. Because it can be difficult to write adequately about music, it is especially felicitous that Rosen has chosen to append a 74-minute CD that demonstrates some of his points. One of the most interesting essays I've ever read. Exciting the chapters devoted to Chopin and Schumann. Not only pianists can benefit from its reading, but every musician will find extraordinary subtle commentaries and analysis. A book made devoutly.

Very hard book.......2004-08-21

Rosen's knowledge and mastery of music is astounding. He really knows what he is talking about. There is a-lot in the chapters on Chopin.

But this is a really hard book. Don't expect to learn much unless you have a very firm grasp of music theory and piano. There are dozens and dozens of pages of notes ... often from works that are not that familar. Even when I was musically familar with some of the works I could not work through Rosen's analysis. The book also seems poorly edited in some places.

This book should be called the Romantic Piano, as its expertise does not extend beyond the piano. Three chapters on Chopin and not one on Wagner or Verdi? If you want a book on romantic piano, this is a fantastic one; if you want a great text on 19th century music, check out Dahlhaus.

Rosen's "The Romantic Generation" is really written for people with a thorough grounding in music theory, but even with a limited understanding of harmony, counterpoint, and structure, I was able to derive much enjoyment from these essays.

Rosen's first love is obviously Chopin, and his three chapters on the Polish master are essential reading, I think, for anyone trying to master the subject. Rosen effectively explodes any lingering remnants of the charge that Chopin was incapable of handling large forms, or was an "untrained genius." He makes a convincing case for Chopin as the most assiduously trained and capable musician of his generation -- and it was not a generation of lightweights. The structural analyses of the Ballades (particularly the 4th) are excellent, but where Rosen really shines is in his examination of the Etudes and Mazurkas. In the former, he elucidates the Etudes' pivotal place in the history of concert music, and the interplay of theoretical composition and physical execution that they embody. In the latter, Rosen explores the Mazurkas as the receptacles of Chopin's most subtle, and personal, artistic accomplishments.

Other chapters are not always as convincing, but Rosen's examinations of Liszt, Mendellsohn, Berlioz, and Schumann all have their merits. After Chopin, Schumann is probably closest to Rosen's heart, and is given the most compelling treatment.

A real page-turner!.......1998-08-26

While I was studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music, it sometimes seemed that the professors chose only the most abstruse works of scholarship as their classroom texts. The worst example was a required text for a 20th Century analysis course, in which the author clearly had nothing to say, and merely strung along interminable chapters of the most irritating technical jargon. To add insult to injury, the campus bookstore stuck me for fifty or sixty dollars for this piece of academic trash. This text, and hordes of others like it, represents the poorest sort of scholarship. I often wonder what these writers hope to accomplish. I imagine their work must have some snob appeal, but education is too important, and life is far too short to waste time on this sort of foolishness. Imagine my elation than, upon discovering the work of Charles Rosen. I first read "Sonata Forms" in preparation for an analysis class I was teaching, and a little while later I read "The Classical Style," one of the very finest books ever written about music. Mr. Rosen has a lot to say, and his style has an engaging quality that would be the despair of many a young novelist. In fact he writes so well, that I frequently had difficulty in putting these books down. His points are well presented and amply supported with musical examples (a great challenge for the "inner ear" although I sometimes cheat and take them to the keyboard). I also enjoy Mr. Rosen's humor, which emerges at all the right moments. On the strength of these works, I devoured "The Romantic Generation" as soon as I could get a copy of it. This is a remarkable book. It maintains and even surpasses the depth of understanding achieved in "The Classical Style." Particularly with the inclusion of a breathtaking study of Romantic literature and painting, which does a very good job of showing the music in its context without going overboard into historical trivia. Mr. Rosen is (as always) very thorough. A special highlight of the book is its study of Chopin. Indeed, the Chopin section is so extensive that the other chapters seem a little cursory at first glance- especially the discussion of Mendelssohn. However, I'm sure this is just a reflection of my personal bias. So many great things are said, with such grace and wit about Liszt, Berlioz and Schumann, that I am reluctant to reiterate it in my own clumsy style, and can only commend to you the original. The only real criticism I have is that the enclosed CD is far too short. Mr. Rosen's performances have a clarity reminiscent of his prose, which is a real joy to hear. For all the penetrating analysis of the Chopin Ballades and the comprehensive study of the Mazurkas, it was odd to find him represented by only two Nocturnes. I was also sorry not to find more examples of the Schumann works: particularly the "Davidsbundlertanze." The Liszt examples though, were very well chosen. There was a time in my life when I felt as though there might be a book in me, I saw myself in the somewhat grandiose armor of a Crusader for Clarity in academic writing. It is a great relief for me, and fortunate for future generations, that Mr. Rosen has already accomplished this and henceforth I'll stick with playing the cello.

Paris Montague has a dilemma. She comes from a family where just marrying someone you love is not enough. Her mother wants her to meet a wealthy "Mr. Right" and does everything in her power to make this happen. Paris is tired of her mother's meddling because she's happy with her no-strings-attached relationship with Tyson. Tyson is starting to make a name for himself in the business world and wants a more formal relationship with Paris. Things get complicated when Paris is introduced to Jabari. Jabari is rich, sexy and perfect husband material. Paris is intrigued by Jabari but something about him seems a little suspicious. Ultimately, Paris has to come to a decision between Tyson and Jabari.

Marrying Up is a wonderful novel by Nina Foxx. Foxx showed how a mother's best intentions for their children aren't always the best for them. I liked how Paris was torn between what her family desires for her and what she desires for herself. Marrying Up had a good dose of drama and intrigue that will keep the reader on their toes. Nina Foxx has once again brought us an enjoyable, delightful read.

Marrying Up was a cute read. No frills, no thrill, just a decent read.

"Get that ring before spring, girls!" Are you over 30, single and motivated by your job? Do people tend to pity you because unlike your other friends and relatives you're the only one who isn't planning a wedding or whipping out pictures of the kids? Relax, because you could be Paris Montague, daughter of Athena; the goddess of wisdom and war.

Competition is healthy as long as you're the one setting the limit on what you can and can't handle. In Paris' case, her mother wouldn't allow her contentment with a man who wasn't affluent. So what does Paris do? She hides the guy she's distributing her time with because in her tainted eyes he doesn't measure up to Mommie Dearest standards. On the contrary Mr. Right may be charming, and hand picked, but the alarms that are sounding off in her head are for more than one reason.

I picked this book because the cover was so captivating. I would've liked more of the dark side of the story to be expounded. It was a simple enough read void any real drama.

Paris is a woman with a family known for marrying with money. The Montagues are middle class hard working people who believe a woman should marry a man that is "established". Paris is secretly dating her lover Tyson who doesn't fit the family expectations. Paris meets Jabari whom her mother thinks is perfect for her daughter.....but Paris thinks there is something very shady about him.

This book was an okay read. The characters needed a little bit more development but the story line was great. I am curious to know what happens to Paris' cousin Alexis and her fiancee Walter...hopefully Ms.Foxx will pen their story.....

This book was a quick read and I look forward to reading many more novels by Ms.Foxx.

Mr. Already Rich May Not Be Mr. Right Now.......2005-10-18

Paris Montague personifies money and culture, while living the good life, because that's what she knows and is what her mother Athena expects. Paris works as an administrative assistant to her step-father, Brian, at Benton and Associates, a lobbying organization with plans of moving up to partner soon. She meets regularly with her girls, Alexis and Sarah, for required maintenance at the gym by doing a Pilate's class and catch up on society highlights.

Lately, Paris has been detached from their conversations because she is intrigued by her undercover lover, Tyson. He is a man with little money, but knows exactly what to say and how to make her feel just right. There is one small problem: the rule in her family is to "never marry someone who's not as well off as you." Even though Paris loves the time she spends with Tyson, his dreams of a owning his own business are not enough to make their affair public. Besides, Athena has already selected Mr. Right and his name is JaBari Nolan.

JaBari is fine. I mean frog hair fine - have you ever seen hair on a frog? No! He is just that damn fine. Not to mention he is charming, well-educated and rich. JaBari's plan is to seduce Paris on their first date. It goes smoothly but something about him is just a little too perfect.

She wants to find out more about JaBari but she has to divert her attention to work because Brian is taken in for emergency surgery. Will Tyson's business venture pan out? Can JaBari keep his past a secret? How deep are Paris' family's bank accounts?

Nina Foxx continues to prove that she is a master storyteller who keeps the reader enthralled. MARRYING UP is a fun easy-going read with a touch of suspense that draws you into the story. Foxx brings to light the choices everyone has to make concerning happiness, values, and family. I suggest that you run out and pick up this delightful "chick lit" charmer as your next weekend read.

I have had this game for almost one month now and was totally lost. Now with the official guide from PRIMA, the game is much more playable and comparable to WrestleMania 2000! Eveything from characters that can be unlocked to specific moves that each wrestler does to how to maximize each person's performance, this game has it all and with the guide, you couldn't ask for anymore!

that is the best thing to get for christamas

This isn't a strategy guide. It's a move list........2001-02-16

I bought this book shortly after buying the game, but boy was I disappointed. The book contains no strategy whatsoever inside, just a list of controls and each character's moves. Even some of these were incorrect. For example, it says that to perform a character's finisher, you press L2. Nuh-uh!! it's actually L1!! The book has other mistakes such as having the old-school 'Godfather' instead of the 'Goodfather', having the wrong captions under screen shots, and having Mick Foley in the wrong place. On the back of this book it promises to give tips on gameplay and match modes but when you get the plastic cover off, you realise you've been well and truly lied to by the writer as there is nothing of the sort inside. Take my advice and don't bother buying this book. It won't tell you anything you don't already know. It's a pity because this really is a great game. Just not a great guide to go with it.

I would have rated this book lower if I could have but I can't. First of most the buttons are all messed up........it says to do a finisher press L2. It is not so. You Press L1. On top of that it gives no help or hints on how to earn things in the game. It helped me about as much as a flu. This is a waste of money. It tells you to press this button at the beginning and then at the move page it tells you to press another. It has so many typos and wrong pictures such as grandmaster sexay on scotty to hotty's page and Mick Foley under the F's instead of the M's like thay say he's is souppose to be under. What a waste. I'm thirteen and I spent money to find out that this book is messed up. I warn you don't waste your money. I found out the hard way. It says it covers all of the match types on the back. Not! It does not cover alot of them like TlC,tornado tag team, and more. This is a kid writing this and saying it stinks not an adult. Please don't waste money. It was made 2 months before the game came out and the game changed alot over that time. It's not right to make a game guide that soon. It was just made so people would want to see the preview of it. Now that the game is out it is worthless.It offered me no help.To sum it up the book reeks and not of awsomeness!

This guide is very useful and helpful if you are having trouble in Season Mode or if you just want to know the charachters moves and some cool facts about the wwf superstars. It tells you the hidden charachters and the specials and the controlls . Smackdown 2 : Know Your Role is a very good game with lots of litle matches ( hell in a cell , falls count anywhere , tlc etc)and the guide to it is just as good.

I still love Prima but this should have been better.......2003-01-07

I am a big fan of Prima Guides. This was my first disappointment. This guide does not go into the game as deeply as their other guides. If features several tips, but is more of a deluxe instruction manual.

There is a list off all the unlockable item cards, but the guide doesn't explore that list. For instance, the game features 62 pre-made move sets. Prima should have listed thes movesets. In the game, they are offically called "UWKK", "UWBT", "UWER", etc. These letters mean Unknown Wrestler K-Kwik, Unknown Wrestler Booker T, Unknown Wrestler Essa Rios, etc. A person could make famous wrestlers faster if one had such a list.

Plus, two of the move sets are BUGGED! I learned this the hard way. If you automaticly give a wrestler Goldberg's or Grandmaster Sexay's moves, the game will freeze once you save. These bugs can be counter-acted if one knows about them beforehand. I didn't. Now, I must start unlocking stuff all over again. (A week's worth of effort lost forever.)

There are a few other bugs in Smackdown: Just Bring It. Many aren't harmful, but Prima should have listed them.

Perhaps this guide isn't very deep because it features a guide for the GBA game, "Road to Wrestlemania." Why on Earth is this guide with this book? These games have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Maybe Prima thought a RtW guide was too brief to publish alone. I can understand that from a business perspective. But if that is the reason why the JBI guide suffers, Prima made the wrong choice.

I expect better from Prima.

Easily the best WebLogic book ever.......2006-03-10

Don't be fooled by the bad reviews here...if you need to learn WebLogic in "21 days" or want a "kick start", then perhaps this book is not for you. But if you are an experienced developer that needs information one notch better than the BEA docs, then this book should be on your bookshelf. Mine stays at work, dog-eared and always ready to explain some detail to help solve a problem. Node Manager? Clustering? Domains configuration? SSL? It's all covered, in depth. Note that this book covers BEA WebLogic Server 8.1, not Portal, Integration, or WorkShop.

Unable to find examples source code.......2005-06-27

I just got this book about 2 weeks ago. I followed the link in the book where it said that I could download the examples code. I found the book, but not the examples code. Without the example code, I can not really follow the book. Can someone send me the link to the examples source code in the book or post the link on this review.

Though a good book but it is simplly a cut and paste of online weblogic documents.
if you want to carry all the online doc in one book then buy this book.
But still, I would recommend this book to all interested in weblogic admin.

Tons of errors.......2004-10-11

Tons of typos and technically inaccurate in many places - according to me.

Regarding JMS redelivery.......2004-08-09

In chapter 8 author wrote a note: Even with container managed transaction in MDBs there may be message redelivery .The Cause - was pointed out as possible server crash. But why was important point that onMessage exceeding transaction-timeout also causes message redelivery left out?? Topics lack depth.. Things like what happens when <trans-timeout-seconds> is exceeded in MDB, stateless EJB etc is not written crisp and straight.. Didn't like anything much including clustering, JVM tuning etc.. What I expect is - that which is not there in weblogic documentations.. Something extra is needed based on extensive author experience.
Go for book like "BEA Weblogic Server 7.0 deployment and Administration"- Aaron Mulder- Wrox.
