5 out of 5 stars Even more than I had expected........2007-04-16

I picked this book up in a used book store. Although I am not a huge fan of his music I picked the book thinking it may be interesting. I was actually surprised to find out how good this book was to read. DMX discloses so much of his personal life in this book. He is very candid and does an excellent job telling his life story from his passion for pitbulls to his problems with drugs.

5 out of 5 stars R.E.A.L........2007-03-24

There aren't many people who possess the energy and resilience that DMX has. He connects with his audience in ways beyond belief. I met him at a recent performance, was on stage with him the whole time, and was literally blown away. He is one of the greatest performers in the industry today and should be recognized as such. I appreciate his honesty in his book and in his life. What a great man!!

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Impressed.......2007-03-03

I just grabbed this book out of curiosity. I knew of DMX and his music but no fan. Wow, was I impressed. To be completely honest, I figured it wouldn't be so good because frankly, how good of a story can a ghetto playa bring to the table?
Well, a very good one in fact. My favorite part of it was that he didn't restrain himself from sounding intimate. He would describe how he was living with nothing and then he had bought a little bouncy ball and that was the shiznit! lol I love that. He appreciated the small things. He still had a heart and needed love no matter how roughed up he was. I got mad respect for him and I feel his story was genuine. DMX did not try to make the projects seem cool or anything. I had a picture the entire time reading it. Dark, gloomy, dirty streets and bad vibes. I recommend this book. Seriously, just read it with an open mind. WOW.

4 out of 5 stars Tough Life.......2007-01-12

Never could have imagined what a rough life DMX had. He has truly defied all odds!

5 out of 5 stars Bravo Earl bka DMX!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-07-09

I Looved this book! He details his life from dam near day one to present day and ur mouth will defintly hang open! He is honest and real as hell in this book rather your a fan or not you'll enjoy this read! Go Get This Book ASAP!!!!!! p.s.= I truly hope he gets his act together as far as crack goes! Too talented to abuse your mind and body that way D!

Book Description

The Red Claw crayfish is a new and very promising aquaculture species. The Red Claw is very similar to the native American species, except that it grows to a HUGE size--almost to that of a lobster! There are several other notable differences, such as year-round breeding, awesome fecundity... often over 700 eggs per breeder! They also have a non-aggressive nature, which allows many more Red Claw crayfish to live happily in a given space than would the native American crayfish.

This book is one of the few sources for complete information on all aspects of the culture of this lobster sized freshwater crayfish. Compiled from leading edge research direct from Australia as well as individual and University findings from all over the U.S.,this book dispels the hype and furnishes the facts about this little known but highly prized new aquaculture species. Fish farmers have managed to become major players in this bottomless market in only a couple of years. Small scale family run operations are harvesting 'short lobsters' in less than a year, and the startup costs are relatively low.

There are not many Red Claw crayfish reference books, and this book packs all the info you may need into a small price. Included in the book are photos from down under, food and feeding regimens needed to raise the Red Claw to giant size, well managed pond and tank factors, hatching and juvenile production, stocking methods, regularly updated sources of supply, processing and sale tips, and marketing recommendations.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars After reading this book I started the Redclaw Hatchery........1998-10-31

First off, I would like to thank the author for writing this book on Red Claw Culture and esspecially for including the section on information resources.

The book was able to bring a lot of great information together, and presented it in a manner that made the average 'water farmer' comfortable with Red Claw production. This must not have been an easy task, considering the lack of available information.

After reading the book I decided to dig deeper and became excited with the possibilities. The book was correct in stating that this industry is in it's infancy and quite likely will grow fast.

I now operate the Red Claw Crayfish Hatchery in Pittsburg and have a website. And this book got me started!

Book Description

From the 1920s through the 1950s, American Communists established children's organizations, after-school programs, and summer camps with the aim of developing "revolutionary consciousness" in the minds of the younger generation. Mishler examines how radical parents' ultimate social and political goals----and their sometimes contradictory desires as parents----were reflected in the education and upbringing of their children.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good But Didn't Live Up to Expectations.......2005-01-24

This short book is a satisfactory addition to the vast library of books regarding the Communist Party USA. It focuses very sharply on a little-examined aspect of the historical record: the children's culture of the CPUSA and how it related to the bigger picture of the education and raising of children.

The development of the Popular Front period was a transformative point at many levels of the Party and movement, and the political and social culture of families and children in the party was no different. Mishler argues that the time prior to the Popular Front period was characterized by an emphasis on children's autonomy from parents, when parents within the family were in theory "oppressors" analogous to the capitalist class oppressors in the class system. Also, during this same time period, it was hoped that ethnic differences would give way to a more general "American" common identity.

Once the Popular Front line developed, family unity was emphasized, with the working class family now seen as a microcosm of the working class, rather than as a microcosm of the class system as a whole. Also, the efforts to minimize ethnic differences faded.

These are excellent and enlightening historical points that were new to me as a student of the Party's history. However, on the "down side," Mishler beat these themes like dead horses until I found myself saying, "yes, I get it, before and after Popular Front, microcosm of this, microcosm of that, okay, move on."

I disagree with the reader's review from November 2000 in that I felt Red Diapers was a much better read.

I agree with Mr. Wills' review of October 2001 in that I found the serious typographical errors extremely distracting. Editing was abysmal, and Columbia University Press should be embarrassed. An often-repeated typo was the use of zeros instead of o's, making a typ0 clear if y0u just l00ked at it.

3 out of 5 stars The word processor did it........2001-10-19

"Raising Reds" must be read to help us understand how the new left evolved from the old left. The Communist Children's Movement was required to counterbalance conservative public schools and powerful conservative after school activities like the Boy Scouts. But it is a difficult book to read because the editing was obviously done by someone with a limited public school education. It is hard to believe a university press, Columbia University no less, would put this product on the street. I cannot imagine what kind of grade I would have received if I had turned in a term paper with this many errors. Parts of this book are almost incoherent. Those associates and the "anonymous reviewers" identified in the Acknowledgments that said they read and reviewed the book should be given lie detector tests.

4 out of 5 stars Raising Reds, by Paul Mishler.......2000-11-30

The emphasis in this book is not as much a discussion of the various summmer camps run by left-wing organizations, but how their various political differences were expressed in their philosophy about raising children, especially in the first third of the 20th century. The author weaves the differences in their approaches with the current politics of the times, creating an interesting and unique analysis. Unfortunately, McCarthyism destroyed most of the camps, and this is about where he ends.

A much more satisfying read than "Red Diapers", Mr. Mishler takes a personal, yet non-subjective view in his writing, lending a nice flow to the research compiled by various other historians. The bibliography alone is worth the purchase.

                  Book Description

Scilab is a free open-source software package for scientific computation. It includes hundreds of general purpose and specialized functions for numerical computation, organized in libraries called toolboxes, which cover such areas as simulation, optimization, systems and control, and signal processing. One important Scilab toolbox is Scicos. Scicos provides a block diagram graphical editor for the construction and simulation of dynamical systems. The objective of this book is to provide a tutorial for the use of Scilab/Scicos with a special emphasis on modeling and simulation tools. While it will provide useful information to experienced users it is designed to be accessible to beginning users from a variety of disciplines. Students and academic and industrial scientists and engineers should find it useful.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part concerns Scilab and includes a tutorial covering the language features, the data structures and specialized functions for doing graphics, importing, exporting data and interfacing external routines. It also covers in detail Scilab numerical solvers for ordinary differential equations and differential-algebraic equations. Even though the emphasis is placed on modeling and simulation applications, this part provides a global view of Scilab. The second part is dedicated to modeling and simulation of dynamical systems in Scicos. This type of modeling tool is widely used in industry because it provides a means for constructing modular and reusable models. This part contains a detailed description of the editor and its usage, which is illustrated through numerous examples. All codes used in the book is made available to the reader.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book.......2006-01-29

The book "Modeling and Simulation with Scilab/Scicos"
is well written and understandable to
readers with the basic signal processing and programming
                  background.
The reader can refresh/improve the knowledge of
some basic control theory material, while at the
same time learns how to apply Scilab/Scicos at simulation and
                  modeling problems.
I worked with Matlab for many years before and I found
                  Scilab/Scicos a very powerful alternative to Matlab/Simulink
                  and is free!
I recommend strongly this book to any scientist/engineer that
plans to explore the benefits of the excellent open
                  source Scilab/Scicos environment.
