Book Description
Bob Dylan: The Essential Interviews features 31 of the most significant and revealing conversations with the singer, gathered in one definitive collection. Among the highlights are the seminal Rolling Stone interviewsanthologized here for the first timeby Jann Wenner, Jonathan Cott, Kurt Loder, and Mikal Gilmore, as well as Nat Hentoffs legendary 1966 Playboy interview. Surprises include Studs Terkels radio interview in 1963 on WFMT in Chicago, the interview Dylan gave to screenwriter Jay Cocks when he was a student at Kenyon College in 1964, a 1965 interview with director Nora Ephron, and an interview Sam Shepard turned into a one-act play for Esquire in 1987. Dylan expert Jonathan Cott writes an introduction to this must-have collection of the artist in his own words.

Dylan of the post-Beat beatitude quest mecurially speaks in here..........2007-07-10
"You know," Bob Dylan said, "these are yuppie words, happiness and unhappiness.
It's not happiness or unhappiness, it's either blessed or unblessed.
As the Bible says, 'Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.'"
[Rolling Stone interview, 1991)
"As I was walking around today I noticed many tall steeples and big churches and stained glass windows. Let me tell you once again: God's not necessarily found in there. You can't get converted in no steeple or stained glass window. Well, Jesus is mighty to save, if He's in your heart, He'll convert you."
Bob Dylan, Buffalo New York concert, 1983
" A hero is a man who can talk to his drummer" .......2007-02-26
Thirty interviews over a forty year span are included in this volume. Dylan fans will thus have a lot of fun here. Dylan can be very funny and he also can be just plain kookie. One of his best gigs is his responses to questions that would make him a kind of Savior , political or otherwise of mankind. Here he is usually self- effacing and ironic.
One of the touching bits for me was his telling how as a nineteen year old youngster he took a Greyhound bus each day from Midtown Manhattan to visit Woody Guthrie who was dying of 'Huntington's Chorea'. Guthrie could barely speak . All he could do was give a name of his own song. Dylan says he knew them all and whatever Woody asked he played him.
Dylan really knows and loves popular music and talks in an interview with Sam Shepherd as well as in others of tens of groups I myself and I suspect most people never heard of. In another interesting piece someone asks him about contemporary songwriters and surprisingly he names Shel Silverstein as a real favorite. Also Randy Newman. And he mentions a couple of Paul Simon songs like 'A Bridge over Troubled Water' but then says that Simon has written a lot of flack. But who hasn't?"
I in general believe the Interviews are very interesting when Dylan talks about what he really loves , the Music, and how he makes it and plays it. In one interview he says that he has to play a certain time each day, but that he cannot do twelve- hour practice sessions like a Segovia 'There is a bit about the born- again Dylan which I found a bit distrubing , but I did not find him talking about his alleged reconversion to Judaism. Supposedly one topic he has pretty much avoided is his parents and parental home in Hibbing.
Dylan talks about his songwriting, about how he often throws out the most inspiring lines. It is interesting that the person who along with the Beatles has written the 'lyrics ' most song- listeners of the latter part of the twentieth century 'know' , begins his songs also with the music, the melody. The words come later.
I have no doubt that fans of Dylan will love this collection of interviews and learn much from it.
This is no light overview as many Dylan titles offer.......2007-02-06
Jonathan Cott has written sixteen books including others on Dylan and both rock and classical musicians: his depth and experience is perfect for BOB DYLAN: THE ESSENTIAL INTERVIEWS, a compilation of interviews following Dylan from the early sixties to today. There are over thirty such interviews gathered here which when taken as a unit provide a smooth historical and psychological progression you won't find in the many Dylan biographies on the market. Also included are all six major interviews Rolling Stone Magazine conducted with Dylan, including Cott's own interview. This is no light overview as many Dylan titles offer, but an in-depth account of his life, perspective and art which is a recommended 'must' for any authoritative Dylan collection - even those already stuffed with books.

Master of Words.......2007-02-01
Great selection of interviews allowing the reader to determine personal insights about Bob Dylan rather than reading someone else's interpretations of Dylan and his work. The interviews definitely raise as many questions as answers which is part of Dylan's timeless mystery and a source of fascination for fans. Given our involvement in Iraq, I wonder why Dylan's "Masters of War", written in 1963, isn't getting radio air time. The October 24, 1964 interview in this book quotes Dylan as saying he is abandoning "finger-pointing" songs...thankfully those songs are still around to be heard and felt by new generations. "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows"...sums this book up perfectly.
Great Interviews.......2007-01-08
This book is one of the best Dylan books that I've read. It begins with interviews in the early 60's when Dylan had just started to get noticed in the music world/folk scene, and they continue chronologically until 2004. The interviews give the reader a look at the emotions and thoughts of Bob Dylan through the eyes of many different reporters. However, most of the interviews are verbatim dialogue between Bob and the reporter. Bob starts out as an enthusiastic young man in the recording studio talking about his music and his tours. You begin to notice a shift in his thoughts in the mid to late 70's. He describes the making of his movie "Renaldo and Clara" and his thoughts seem unclear. However, it may simply be a look inside the mind of a genius. In addition, there are several interviews that discuss his conversion to Christianity. He seems obsessed with his new found religion. This phase quickly passes and the reader will begin to notice a shift to a more rational, thoughtful Bob Dylan. He begins to talk about his music and family (son, Jakob). Bob seems more sure of himself, his music, and his career in the late 90's and beyond. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!!!

Book Description
`Michael Jackson: The Man behind the Mask' is the INSIDE STORY of the truth behind the rumors, ugliness and mystery surrounding Michael Jackson.
Is Jackson just a confused person who got too much fame too soon or is he a cold and calculating villain who will stop at nothing to have his bizarre appetites satisfied? Now you can read about it for the first time from the man who knows everything!
The author, Bob Jones, is not a journalist conducting interviews but somebody who has known and been with Jackson for 34 years as his chief of Public Relations; by his side since Michael was 11 years old. Bob Jones is the one person with this unique inside view of Michael Jackson's world. To a certain degree, Bob Jones CREATED Michael Jackson. He created his image. For example, Bob Jones created Michael Jackson's famous nickname "The King of Pop".
Customer Reviews:
ALL OF YOU WHO BELIVE THESE BOOKS ARE PATHETIC.......2007-03-15
IF YOU LIKE THE TRUTH, DONT BUY IT.
ITS FUNNY HOW YOU JUDGE THIS MAN ON BOOKS WRITTEN BY PEOPLE WHO HE'S FALLEN OUT WITH OR NO LONGER TALKS TO WHO ARE TRYING TO GET REVENGE AND MAKE A QUICK BUCK. MJ IS NOT SAD AND PATHETIC - YOU ALL ARE. IM NOT A HUGE MJ FAN BUT IM NOT ABOUT TO GO AND CALL HIM SAD AND PATHIC BASED ON A BOOK THATS NOT EVEN WRITTEN BY HIM. WHO DOES THE AUTHOR THINK HE IS? MIKES PSYCHIATRIST OR SOMETHING? UNTIL MJ ONE DAY COMES OUT WITH ALL THIS AND ITS THE TRUTH I WILL NOT BLIVE IT. ITS SAD HOW THE PUBLIC TURNED THEIR BAK ON HIM. OH AND HIS TALENT ISNT DOWN THE DRAIN...I BELIEVE IT CANT BE LOST.. I JUST THINK ITS MASKED BEHIND THE CONTROVERSY...
Michael Jackson....sad, sick, pitiful....etc, etc............2006-08-08
I was a fan of Michael Jackson's since I was 5 so imagine my increasingly mixed feelings regarding the many bizarre changes I observed over the years. The auther confirmed my gut feelings regarding Michael's disdain for his own race. It's unfortunate, pitiful, & very, very sad. I've seen him grow from a cute cheeked adorable little boy to an inhuman-looking wizened freak because of childhood trauma & self hatred. My mom says he looks like a "dough-face." This man used to be the biggest pop music sensation in the world, but he got so caught up in being recognized as "royalty" that he turned himself into something I can't even fathom. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because it was a little too short. So sad, because he was a talented individual, but it seems that all that talent went down the drain because he got so caught up in his own celebrity & self glorification. As for him hating his own race...pitiful. Apparently Mr. Jackson has never heard of karma, or doesn't care.
So, Informative.......2006-06-09
Perhaps the most overlooked and underrated work on Michael Jackson. It was a short and informative read. It didn't bore you with things you already knew and heard. It was simply put and easy to follow. Kudos to Bob Jones for finally speaking out. I don't know how well this sold, but if Mr. Jones had gone with a major publisher, such as Harper, Simon and Schuster, Warner it would have done even better. Great job and thanks for the compact and detailed-filled story.
Musical Genius.......2006-05-06
"Michael Jackson: The Man Behind the Mask" is a comprehensive story about this remarkable man, that attempts to reveal the truth about him. The book is well written and fairly balanced account on Michael Jackson by someone who should know him well, having worked with him for over 30 years. Michael Jackson is clearly a musical genius with exceptional step, spin and turn on the dance floor. He is one of the most successful American musician and entertainer. His music has brought a lot of happiness to many people all over the world. He is often referred to as The King of Pop or Wacko Jacko. His successful musical career and controversial life style has been at the forefront of pop culture for over a quarter of a century.
Jackson began his musical career at the age of five as lead singer of The Jackson 5. He made his first solo recordings in 1971 while remaining a member of the group. He began a full-fledged solo career in 1979 and formally parted with his siblings in 1984. In his solo career, Jackson recorded and co-produced the best selling album of all time Thriller, with approximate worldwide sales of 60 million , received thirteen Grammy awards and charted thirteen number one singles in the U.S. Michael Jackson has been awarded numerous honors.
From 1988 to 2005, Jackson lived on his Neverland Ranch property, on which he built an amusement park and private zoo for the enjoyment of economically disadvantaged and terminally ill children. His frequently held sleepover parties have received widespread critical media-coverage, especially after he revealed that he sometimes slept in the same bed with several unrelated children. This led to him being accused of child sexual abuse both in 1993 and 2003. He was eventually tried and acquitted of the latter allegations in 2005.
As a human being, Michael Jackson made mistakes and his eccentric character is well known. I am a black man myself and the fact that Michael does not like blacks does not bother me. What is of concern is his relationship with children which in any case he was acquitted. What I consider important is the thrill I have got from his music. Michael should be left alone in freedom instead of being hounded all the time. After all, the last time I checked, America was a democracy, where a man has a right to be eccentric.
The real Michael Jackson from a Motown insider.......2006-04-14
Author Bob Jones was a fixture at Motown Records and was the man who dubbed Jackson the 'King of Pop': for over thirty years he was the public relations force behind the star, and so there's no better writer to explore the 'real' Jackson. Michael Jackson fans - and even those who know music well but don't particularly like Jackson - will find this a gripping read which exposes many truths behind the mask; from his affection for children to his endless plastic surgeries. From his hatred of blacks to his many musical and social challenges, you really get a close inspection of Jackson's life and motivations in MICHAEL JACKSON: THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK.

Book Description
Roswell fans and UFO buffs will love learning about the alien mythology and the 1947 Roswell crash that prompted Jason Katims (creator of My So-Called Life) and David Nutter (creator of The X-Files) to combine forces and spawn the hit television show Roswell. This is an intense, intelligent drama that explores the lives of three alien/human hybrid teenagers as they struggle to keep their true identity secret, elude the FBI, battle enemy alien forces, and lead normal teenage lives. A look at the show, its fans, and its history, this guide is packed with biographies and photographs of the cast, detailed commentaries on each episode, and information on how to find the best Roswell information on the Web.
Customer Reviews:
Amazing Achievement.......2005-08-31
This book is filled with information that any Roswell fan or anyone interested in how and why a television show could have such a dedicated fan base would love. It is obviously written by a fan whose painstaking research created a thorough tribute published in 2002, the same year Roswell ended.
The book begins with a breif, yet detailed history of the Roswell incident that many believe proves the existence of extra-terrestrial life. This information is vital to anyone interested in the show because it is what the show is based on.
There are decent mini-biographies of each of the major cast members including how they got their roles on Roswell and what they had done previously. Accompanied to the biographies of the stars are biographies of their characters and their relation to the other characters.
There is a detailed account of the fan participation, the reason that Roswell remained on the air for three seasons instead of only one. This is relevant and exciting because most of the information regarding the various fan events and efforts is scattered and different depending on who one talks to. It is nice to have an account composed of various sources in one location.
There is a chapter dedicated to the "shippers," or fan groups who have given themselves names according to which people or groups they are affiliated with.
This book included a section for several fan websites. This information loses reliability as time goes on because of the instability of fansites, but it is nice to have in case the sites are still available.
There are quizzes to judge one's knowledge of the show which are very fun, especially for fans who want to prove their obsession.
There is a "Why did the chicken cross the road" section with responses by each of the characters, including minor ones. It is mildly funny and makes sense only to the hard core fans, but pays tribute to the creativity of the fans on www.crashdown.com, the main Roswell website from which the idea was taken.
The pages are littered with photographs, both in color inserts and black and whites. Many are from private collections from fans, meaning most are rare candids.
The bulk of the text is the synopsis, review, and fun fact section for each of the episodes. These include the air dates, the guest cast list, alienisms which refers to references of aliens or powers used, soda moments which refer to pop culture references and their explanations, cool facts which include behind the scenes information, and the music played during each episode. This information was published before the DVDs, so the music listed is that which was played during the television air date, not on the DVDs.
Finally, the book includes a detailed and organized bibliography that includes all of the many sources that Burnett derived her information from.
Overall, this is an excellent book and tribute to a wonderful television show with dedicated fans.
A LOT OF INFORMATION.......2005-07-21
WOW THE PICTURES ARE THE BEST BUT WE NEED MORE PIC. THE INFORMATION OF THE EVENTS, CHAPTERS, WEB PAGE, THE ROSWELLIANS AND OTHERS THINGS.I LIKE THE ORGANIZATION OF THE CHAPTERS WAS JUST NICE.
Roswell Fans will like.......2005-05-14
Good book for fans of Roswell and the growing fanbase that missed the show because of lack of access to the WB and/or UPN. (Thank goodness for DVDs!)
Includes timelines and lots of info on the show, cast and Roswell.
To fans of the book series, the television show and the books are distinctly different, though a similar premise and same characters. They should be each looked at on their own merits - don't knock the televison series (or give this book only one star) because you don't appreciate the television series. Yes, the show was based on the books, but did you know that the show was picked up by the WB before the books were even done? (see The Roswell High featurette, Roswell Season 1 DVD set)
A lot of information, useful to any Roswell fan.......2004-05-09
I bought this book because I couldn't remember the details of all of the episodes and I wanted to learn more.
For your money you get a chapter on the history of the real Roswell crash, told just a little differently than what I'd read in the past. This is followed by cast biographies & pictures (this part is now getting just a little out of date), chapters 3-7 consist of things about the fans, conventions/ charity work inspired by the show, a few websites (one of which identifies film locations)& trivia stuff-and quite a few pictures.
The bulk of the book is an episode guide for all three seasons, complete with air dates cast ,guest cast, episode synopsis and various little sections on different aspects of each episode. I liked the fact that the author would often put in a little criticism of script flaws and I especially liked the way some episodes were identified as having mistakes (a couple of episodes have film crew members at least partially visible).
I liked having a listing for the music on each episode but this may not be of much use to DVD owners as some of the music will be changed from the broadcast version of the show.
My main gripe is that I would've liked more information (some of the stuff here was obviously written during the shows run but not reedited)but this book will certainly get you by.
I only gave it a star bc I had to.......2003-11-06
OK...I know that a lot of people love the Tv show Roswell, but before the show was created, I was a hardcore fan of the books that the show was supposed to be based on. I was so excited when I found out they were making the show, but I could not have been more disappointed. Seriously, if you want to read something good, read Roswell High by Melinda Metz. It's the original story about Max, Liz, Michael, Maria, Alex, and Isabel. It's an awesome series and it's soooo much better than the show ever was!

loved it.......2007-03-18
My son loves anything WWE. Good source for information on how to plan game. He doesnt leave home without it.
A Prima Games title this is not..........2007-01-23
This book serves the purpose of listing all available moves for the preset roster and shows all available storylines in the game. That's about it. No instruction on Create a Wrestler, or for that matter, create anything. In fact, the previous two items I listed (moves and storylines) are pretty much the only content in this book. I don't know; maybe I'm spoiled by Prima and the good job they do writing for PC games. They just could have included a LOT more content, that's all. You could have found any old FAQ in 30 seconds of search-engine poking.
WWE S. vs. Raw 2007 Signature Series Guide.......2007-01-10
It was great! Perfect condistion but I did not see the Bradygames Signature on it that was suppose to be on it... That was my only concern; otherwise, it was perfect!
Guide me to a new light..........2005-10-30

You just gotta buy this if you want to be successful in playing SmackDown vs Raw!
Smackdown Vs Raw The Strategy Guide.......2005-07-09
The Smackdown Vs Raw strategy guide is very good as it helps you through all the different match types and gives you all the moves of every wrestler inside the game. This is a must buy with Smackdown Vs Raw. I believe this is about a B quality guide it should show the wrestlers movesests on the locked ones and stuff like that but this is still awesome.

Customer Reviews:
Decent guide, but certainly not complete........2007-05-09
I have to agree with the other reviewers of this item. This strategy guide is decent, as far as listing all the movesets, and giving strategy for fighting as, and going up against EVERY wrestler in the game.
However, as others have mentioned, it not only gives no tips about GM mode, but mentions it barely, if at all! Also, they DO list what the various challenges are, but gives no tips about how to complete them, or which wrestler(s) might work best for which challenges.
The quality of the book itself (layout, paper, print quality, etc.) is actually very high, and on that alone, I'd have given this 5 stars. However, the glaring oversight of having left out so much information about features that make Smackdown vs Raw 2006 decently replayable, leaves me a bit more wary of purchasing future guides by Bradygames. That said, I can only justify giving this guide 3 stars.
If you (somehow) can't find enough about the wrestlers' moves online, or just want something in a pretty package, go ahead and buy this. Just take my word for it...don't pay cover price, or anywhere near it. If you need the info in this guide, definitely buy it used.
smackdown review.......2006-02-22
A great help for hints and tips on the finer points of this game.
Detailed.......2006-01-30
This Guide book is Great when it comes to Knowing their movesets. This also advises you on The trophies and challenge mode. There is no Carrer or GM modes, though.
THIS IS A RIP OFF. THEY SHOULD PAY YOU TO HAVE IT!!!.......2005-12-07
The previous smackdown guides went into more detail concerning the controls, and also gave some strategies on how to create a wrestler, complete the shopzone challenges, and what to expect in storymode. Now, I don't care about the latter, but the expanded controls listing and the strategies I could have found useful--this is a strategy guide after all--and there were no strategies and the control list was just a rehash of the manual...with pictures. The previous reviewer mentioned that he liked the book because it showed all the wrestlers moves, which body parts they affected, and how strong they affected that body part. To that reviewer, you wasted your money; as will the rest of you who buy this book, because you could have done that in the game. Just go to Create A Mode and choose Create A Move-Set. Choose any of the wrestler' move sets and you can see everything that the strategy guide gives you, with the added addition of seeing an animated sample of the move as opposed to a still photo in the strategy guide.
Oh, and as far as the shopzone challenges go, the guide just mentions what they are. It does have all the challenges for all 4 difficulty levels whereas the game only reveals the challenges from the first two difficulties; However, if you don't complete all the ones the game gives you, than it won't matter because you won't have access to the higher difficulty challenges anyway. The guide doesn't give you any tips on how to complete the challenges; it just lists them all...and that's it.
Again, don't buy this book, it's thicker than most strategy guides I've seen recently, but bradygames was very deceptive. This guide tells you nothing. Bradygames was never my favorite strategy guide publisher, but they've published way better guides than this crap.
Very good but incomplete..........2005-12-05
This strategy guide reminds me of why Brady Games' Mortal Kombat guides used to be good. The layout of the guide is excellent and is printed on sturdy paper. The guide contains all of the wrestlers moves and gives a rating for how much a move impacts a certain spot on the opponent. It even contains match strategy for each wrestler based on their individual strengths/weakness and move sets.
Unfortunately, I didn't see anything about story mode in it. Even though it does say it in the product description above. Same for the gm mode. The guide does though list the rules for all challenges and how to win all the trophies.
Overall, I give it **** out of *****. If your only interested in the move list and strategy I recommend you buy this guide.
