This books definitely defies the myth that true leaders are born leaders. The author uses examples of stories and excellent quotes to explain principles of leadership in a very efficient manner. I am quite sure that I can be a true leader if I follow the advice given by Mark Sanborn in his book. In addition, the book is concise and straight to the point which makes it quite appealing to the reader. Overall, this book is a must to the collection of a true leader.
Great Little Book.......2007-08-06
I recently started a new job and was looking for a book to build a two-day leadership offsite around. I found this little gem in an airport bookstore, read it on the plane, and knew it was the one. The contents perfectly mesh with my theory of leadership and the types of behaviors I expect. It's a fast read, and is practical and inspirational without being sappy.
I bought a copy (via Amazon, of course!) for my each of my management staff and used the 6 leadership principles as the framework for the first day of the offsite. It was a huge hit. I have since bought copies for every employee in the group, as they all expressed interest. We are having a group meeting in a few months (we are in several locations) and a review and discussion session centered around this book will be a must on the agenda!

While there's nothing particularly new in this book, Sanborn does a good job of making leadership something personal. A great book to get for employees.

I read a lot of new-age business books and I have to admit that I came away kind of disappointed with this book. Its an easy read just like Fred Factor, but most of the advice in the book seems like common knowledge and things you should do anyways. I don't fee that there is anything revolutionary with its content.

Don't Waste Your Money..........2005-06-29
I bought the book and the information was helpful to a point but the title should have been: "You Can Find -ALMOST- Anybody" ... If you're are trying to locate a living birth mother and you only have her maiden name, chances are you will have the same luck findng her as I did finding mine... NONE. If you don't know your birth mother's approximate age or birthdate, where she was born, social security number, last known whereabouts, marriage certificate(s), relatives of hers, or cooperation from your own relatives... chances are you won't find her. If you're fortunate to be a guest on a Sally, Maury, or Montel show trying to locate a lost relative, that would be great. Otherwise, the author (Mr Culligan), refers you to a private-eye located in Miami, Fl. who was somewhat helpful in my efforts. Thanx 4 listening..... James E Burns: Richmond, Va. This is an excellent book to help in locating birth families. The resources available go way beyond what an average person could even know existed. I highly recommend it for adoption searches.

I bought the book when I decided I wanted to find my father. It became my best friend when I was down and gave me ideas to get me going again. I have never found my father, but have found out so much about him that no one could have ever have told me just knowing him. I would say it is a perfect tool in getting the ball rolling if you are wanting to locate anyone. I would never have known that I have so many rights without it. It is a very straight forward and to the point type book and in plan english-not all that legal talk.

Pretentious, But Fun.......2005-05-04
Words to the Wise (as the authors say)
Do not read this book so you can "fake it."
In the introduction, the authors state, "I'm certainly not advocating intellectual deception." However, the book DOES seem to promote some level of dishonesty if not outright lies. For example, in the chapter on horses, one of the suggestions for "What You Can Say" is: "Our Bernie was an Appaloosa..." - This is for some one who has never had a horse! I think if you take some of their suggestions for bluffing you will either sound like an annoying Know-It-All or be caught in your deception.
The book was a fun read, but my suggestion is this: if you are really trying to impress some one and a topic comes up about which you know nothing or very little, just admit it. You will probably impress some one more saying something like, "I don't know much about ______, but I find it interesting, what can you tell me?" then lying to people. On the other hand, if you just feel like you should know some of this stuff and don't, the book is fun, light and easy to read.

This book is supposed to briefly educate you on typical conversation topics, to give you a working knowledge on varied subjects. It is hard to find the information credible when there are rampant spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and typos. I am not sure if it was inexpensively made and there were no editors to peruse the text before publishing it, but I say don't waste your money.

After bemusing the possible dynamics of the aforementioned literary work, there is a possible conundrum between the civilities of modern progressive ideology and past marxo-realism. This fixates itself by properly realigning the over-stated political asylums of post-regressive truism. A parallel universe then exists between confounded pluralism and unfounded singularities of cognition. This then beckons the ponderance of man's own independence of separate dualities. A sort of presupposition, if you will. To be or not to be, that is in essence all.
Great for anyone who didn't go to college.......2002-11-09
For anyone who, like me, wasn't able to go to college and finds themselves a little clueless at parties when people start talking about politics, history and the like, this book is great. Several concepts are explained in ways that make you want to learn even more about them. The only thing I didn't like so much is the title, because it makes me feel like I have to "hide" the book because I don't want friends to see it on my bookshelf and know I'm cheating! It's not so much that I want to impress people as I don't want to sound like a complete idiot, but still, the title is good cause it caught my attention, and they DO give some great advice for how to handle yourself in a group discussion at a party, etc. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel a little more confident in discussions about cultural topics and the like.

An illuminating, touching and very funny read........1999-11-16
When I discovered that Bradford Dillman had written a biography, and that its title was "Are You Somebody?" I ordered it immediately. Growing up in the 60s and 70s, Dillman was always a favorite of mine and it was such a pleasure to read his self-deprecating, funny and very wise observations and bits of gossip about making movies and TV series. He has great memories to share about the likes of Fredric March, Orson Welles and William Shatner, and so many others. I only wish the book had included some photos of his wonderful career. I recommend this book highly. It'll make you laugh and it'll warm your heart.
Last of the great role players ..........1999-09-03
Did you ever stop to think about what gave screen legends their unique qualities? ... fine supporting actors like Bradford Dillman. His book is an easy and entertaining read, and humorously encapsulates his Hollywood life as a man who saw success, but never managed to get both feet under the spotlight. Having won the love of the beautiful model/actress Suzy Parker, Bradford is also a man of distinctive taste, because I've been smitten with his wife ever since I saw her performance in 1958's "Ten North Frederick" over 25 years ago. This is a couple I would really like to sit and chat with, and Dillman's book is as close as a die-hard fan like me is likely to get in this lifetime.

I was thrilled to discover that Mr. Dillman wrote his autobiography! While others were waiting for the next 'Star Wars', I was searching the TV Guide to see when or where Bradford's movies or tv appearances would be playing! While waiting for my copy of the book to come, I started to worry that it might read like the Bible's Book of Job ... poor me ... I should've been James Bond, not that so and so Roger Moore ...boo-hoo ... waaaaaaah! I worried for nothing !! It's not your typical autobiography. More than anything, "Are You Anybody?" is a collection of wonderfully personal memories and Hollywood stories that shows a little of what it takes to survive in the world of acting(patience, thick skin & a sense of humor).This book is fast-paced and a real page-turner! It would be a great gift for anyone who has any sort of interest in the world of entertaiment.It leaves you smiling!

Often quite funny, but ultimately disappointing.......1999-03-15
I bought this book for purely sentimental reasons: I had an enormous crush on Bradford Dillman when I was a teenager. It's a quick, easy read, and I admit I laughed out loud at some of the stories, but overall it left a bad taste in my mouth. There is a constant undercurrent of disdain (and sometimes outright contempt) for all "civilians," i.e., non-actors, even those of us who were once young and foolish enough to consider ourselves Dillman fans. The general mood of regret over the path his career has taken severely undercut the wry humor of some of the anecdotes. Mr. Dillman's personal life has clearly been much more fulfilling and I'm glad for him, but frankly, I wish I hadn't read his book and gotten to know him better as the rather disappointed person he seems to be. (Also, anyone who teases his wife about being unable to spell should have proofread his galleys more carefully; there are a lot of typos in the book.)
Funniest, most entertaining "heavy" of all time........1999-03-12
Bradford Dillman has seen it all, done it all and portrayed them all. Now he shares it with us. Although the Hollywood genre is not what I typically read, this book was delightful. I laughed out loud repeatedly, and couldn't put it down. Do yourself a favor and read it.

Oh dag! If you like fish and grits and cooking with cannibus say oh yea-er! this book is like high school, lots of good times, good laughs, and a little confusing... I really like the recipes, ... so this book really helped me out. I used this book and watched the wizard of oz with the dark side of the moon album playing and i guess something just clicked...this book is cool, big truck.

This book is great. It makes it really easy to follow, and has some great recipies. I would have liked to see a few more recipies in there. The book is easy to read, and it makes it fun. This is the only cookbook your going to need.

This book has a few great recipies that are easy to follow, and very TASTY! The cannabutter recipie is exelent, but personaly, I find that instead of two ounces of leaf, one ounce of flower tops and half the amount of butter they suggest, makes POTENT, POTENT butter, wich you can simply add to any pre-made brownie mix for exelent results. The only thing I found dissapointing was the length of the book, and the amount of recipies held there-in. It's main saving grace bieng the cannabutter recipie, wich can be used in any recipie that requires butter. All in all I'd say that this is a great book for those without a lot of experience in cannabis cookery, or for those who need a little refresher in the finer points of cooking this sacred herb.

This book is great, easy to understand, funny and the cookies tasted great and worked like a treat. The info on what to do in case of overdose was pretty good as well as my friend chomped down on 2 0r 3 cookies tooo many. So throw out the Joy of Cooking, this is the only cookbook you'll ever need.

This is the first cannabis cooking book I've bought and I couldnt have picked a better one...Covers all aspects of cooking and preparing marijuana, i.e. different cooking techniques, dosages, various ingredients, etc...And all this with a quirky purple chipmunk (I think?) as your intrepid quide. He parties with you along the way, ingesting his hempy treats for your delight. The book has snazzy, eye-catching graphics and is a delight to read...Not many recipes, more a book on general cannabis cooking techniques that you can use in a variety of cooking situations. Every cannabis consumer would benefit from the information presented, it opens up whole new way to enjoy your sacred herb!!!

My favorite book on video. It is the most thorough and careful development of digital video I have seen.
While you won't hear this often, it is a beautifully produced book. It contains very clear illustrations, its equations are clearly presented, and the text is nicely organized.

If only more tech authors could write as clearly and with such consideration for the reader as does Mr. Poynton. The layout of the text and graphics is superb. The attention to content accuracy is highlighted by the many helpful, and sometimes amusing, notes in the margins.

A great book for the algorithms and equations of digital video.......2006-12-25
Poynton presents a comprehensive treatise on digital video and HDTV in 50 chapters and two appendices. Although this is a comprehensive work and some topics are presented in complete detail, other equally important topics are discussed in a few pages. The concepts of color, NTSC and PAL encoding, colorimetry, and other topics of image presentation are strongly emphasized. However, the topics of quantization, digital filtering, general signal processing, and methods of compression are treated more briefly. This is a very good resource for anyone interested in digital TV or the computer display of images. It is probably not a good choice for general engineering study by readers without a good background in digital signal processing. The differences between computer displays and commercial television displays are well presented, provided along with some history of both disciplines and how, with the decreasing restriction on bandwidth, these interests are merging.
Part one of the book stresses digital video basics. This is pretty similar to Poynton's previous book on digital video with the exception that he has added some introductory material on HDTV, but that chapter is only a few pages long.
Part two, "Principles", is a very nondescript title for this section. That is probably because it discusses such a large group of diverse topics as filtering, sampling, visual perception, color science for video, NTSC and PAL, videotape recording, 2-3 pulldown, and deinterlacing. This is the section that is the most mathematical, however, it is still not as complex as most signal processing books you'll encounter.
Part three, "Video Compression", consists of three very short chapters on JPEG, motion-JPEG, and MPEG-2. It's a good overview of the concepts, but don't expect to be able to build a codec based on the information in this section.
Part four, "Studio Standards", also has a very specific subject matter. The standards discussed are 480i, 576i, 1280x720 HDTV, and 1920x1080 HDTV. Scanning, timing, sync structure, and picture structures are discussed in each case.
Part five, the final section, discusses broadcast and studio standards. NTSC, PAL, and digital television broadcast standards are discussed.
If you are the type of person who is interested in the algorithms of digital video more than you are the hardware of digital video systems, you'll probably enjoy this book. The author makes frequent use of illustrations and block diagrams to illustrate what is being presented, and I have gotten a great deal of use from it over the years. If you are looking for a book on digital video systems hardware, might I recommend "Video Demystified" by Keith Jack.
The best video book out there.......2006-10-18
I have several excellent books on video, and I have to say that this book is easily the best. Charles Poynton covers all of the basics in a very understandable and readable fashion. Video is a complicated topic, and one that is not well understood. There are many facets of video that are commonly confused, such as the differences, benefits and drawbacks of interlaced versus progressive scan video, or the difference between pixels and lines of resolution. Digital Video and HDTV Algorithms and Interfaces is very well written, and is a must-read for any serious video professional or hobbyist.
