Here is Green Day's full story, from the band's humble teenage beginnings focused around the Berkeley punk rock haven 924 Gilman Street, to full-fledged rock stardom. Featuring a host of photographs and a discography, this comprehensive biography is a must for new fans and old.
Customer Reviews:
You will read this book........2007-03-23
I am obsessed with Green Day, but I haven't always thought of them like that; when I first heard of them, it was around the time their album 'Shenanigans' was released, I think. At that time, I was really into Avril Lavigne. I still like her, but I don't like her THAT much anymore. Anyway, I heard of Green Day, and I automatically assumed they weren't any good. A few years later, American Idiot came out. I went out and bought it, and realised I was COMPLETELY wrong. And that was how I became obsessed with them.
But no matter how obsessed with them, while I found out a lot about them, I still didn't know a lot about them. I was a bit doubtful about reading this book, but honestly: You so should read this book. It is full of information, from their humble beginnings in squatters' basements to international stardom. It describes many hilarious incidents and it also describes their albums in-depth. It also describes their influences, and who they influenced, and it has the awesomest colour photo collage ever in the middle, as well as black-and-white photos throughout.
You will read this book.
I repeat: You WILL read this book.
NOW.
Must have for all Green Day Fans.......2006-11-12
This book is the ultimate item to add to any collection of Green Day memorabilia, CDs, posters, and what-have-you. It entails a complete history of the band, as well as a little background on the members. It's not the gripping, heart-wrenching memoir that is Anthony Kiedis' "Scar Tissue" but it punches out information with the same verve and attitude as the band itself, keeping you interested and totally absorbed page after page. Simply dripping with little-known tidbits, it's certainly a good thing to have on any music lover's shelf.
I positively love this book, and love the band.
The Best of Green Day.......2006-03-04

Book Description
At the time Aum Shinriky? emerged, most Japanese assumed that they lived in one of the most well-ordered of societies, a model that had much to offer the chaotic Western world. This assumption was shaken on March 20, 1995 when the deadly nerve gas sarin was released on the Tokyo subway system. Since that incident, the "Aum Affai" has had widespread repercussions and shaken the Japanese psyche in a serious way. This volume provides a window onto contemporary Japanese society by considering the various reactions and responses to this crisis precipitated by this deviant religious movement.

Excellent and unique research.......2007-07-11
I purchased this book to help in my research for a college thesis project and it was a tremendous asset. As well-written as you could ask for from this sort of subject matter, very thorough, and a useful bibliography as well. Probably not terribly interesting for a casual reader, but it's a must for anyone more than superficially interested in this specific topic.

Very Nicely Done.......2000-08-26
This 267 page volume published in 1994 is one of Kosten's finest works. It probably would be best though to get a more general work on the Nimzo-Indian before embarking on this one. The move order (1.d4 Nf6, 2.c4 e6, 3.Nc3 Bb4) is easy to understand and allows Black quick development. Invariably White is either saddled with 2 c pawns after Bxc3 bxc3 or if White chooses an early Qc2, the White Queen captures at c3, but this slows down White's development since he has made 2 Queen moves so early. One word of caution though. White decides on Move 3 if he will allow the Nimzo-Indian to be played by Black, or instead choosing 3.Nf3 which usually leads to the Queen's Indian defence (3.Nf3 b6). You really need both in your opening repertoire as Black if you're not a King's Indian or Grunfeld defence player (2.c4 g6). Of course if you're really ambitious you could try the Blumenfeld Gambit if White offers 3.Nf3 (3...c5, 4.d5 b5!?) but it's hard to find deeply analyzed material on that. Needless to say, the semi-serious to serious chess player needs to know this defence as Black against the Queen's pawn player. I would also suggest a book on the Benoni defence (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5, 3.d5 e6) and the Benko Gambit (3.d5 b5).
Excellent as a game collection.......2000-05-10
For those of you that play the Nimzo-Indian Defense, this is a great game collection of 189 deeply annotated games. I would recommend first reading "Mastering the Nimzo-Indian With the Read and Play Method", also by Tony Kosten, first, and then when you have a feel for all the various lines and pawn structures, tackle these 189 games.

The mightiest fortresses in the world can fail, and when that happens all you can do (you being the person responsible for castle security) is figure out what went wrong, what damage was done, and by whom. If the castle was located in the right kind of kingdom--to take a metaphor too far--you can hope to prosecute the perpetrator. Computer Forensics: Computer Crime Scene Investigation explains how to gather evidence of computer crimes in such a way that it will be more likely to lead to a conviction in a criminal court. It's an interesting legal area--after all, it's almost always you, and not any law enforcement agency doing the surveillance and evidence-gathering on your computer systems--and John Vacca has done a fair bit of research. This book will probably expand your thinking on the subject of information security.
On the other hand, though Vacca gives good general advice (don't lose volatile information by shutting a compromised machine down midattack; do be prepared to translate memory dumps into jury-readable form), he sometimes meanders into generalizations and irrelevancies. The fact that terrorists distribute their plans via public Web sites is certainly scary, but hardly helpful to someone wanting to prosecute the guy who vandalized the corporate Web site. Similarly interesting, but practically irrelevant to most of us, are discussions of high-energy radio frequency (HERF) and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapons that can knock out information systems from a distance. More focus on evidence collection in organizational computing environments would make this book useful, rather than just generally informative. --David Wall
Topics covered: How to gather evidence of a hack attack after the fact, and a lot of general-interest information on the state of crime and law enforcement in computer technology. Coverage is almost all general in nature, dealing with how to formulate a strategy and deal with events without getting into details of any operating system or computing environment.
Book Description
Using personal computers as their weapons, hackers and criminals (some only 11 years old) have attacked the Internet, government agencies, financial companies, small businesses, and the credit card accounts of unsuspecting individuals. This completely updated book/CD package provides a complete overview of computer forensics from information security issues to "crime scene investigation," seizure of data, determining the "fingerprints" of the crime, and tracking down the criminals. The book's companion CD-ROM contains demos of the latest computer forensics software. Numerous exercises, case studies, and vignettes of actual crimes enhance the topics under discussion, and provide the reader with solutions to computer crime in the real world.
Customer Reviews:
Okay but I was disappointed.......2007-01-13
I was real excited when I saw this book that looked like the bible of computer forensics and it came with a DVD. The cost of 50 dollars made it expensive but with DVD that I hope would have video that I can watch.
THe book is okay in giving a general idea of computer forensics. It was not very specific in what to do. It has an interactive part in which it give you general answer too not very thorough.
Then, it goes on a tangent about warfare and cyber terrorism. It leaves the forensics behind. And the book goes over 700 pages.
The DVd is intro to some fornesics software, I was hoping it had video
to show people like me that are visual and can learn more this way.
So, the book is okay but I would check others that are more specific and give more thorough details about computer forensics.
New/updated info is spot on!.......2005-10-10
This edition of the book addresses the most current concerns/issues that every computer professional/layman should be aware of. The sheer amount of information offerd is impressive but, as always, presented in the same easy-to-absorb manner as John's numerous other books.
Computer Forensics: Computer Crime Scene Investigation (With CD-ROM) (Networking Series).......2005-10-08
Computer Forensics is very appropriate considering a number of data storage facilities that
have been recently hacked into, resulting in theft of customer data. The subject matter of computer forsenic
is logically presented from grounds up leading to a volume of valuable information. I was impressed with the
case studies that appear in the appendix. The end of chapter exercises should be very useful,
and thus could be adapted in a teaching environment. This text should form a companinon to the author's
other text on Firewalls.
The "CSI" of computer security.......2005-10-04
With jails overcrowded this book certainly won't help.
Great reference. Truly the "CSI" handbook of computer security reference. With hackers circling your computer like vultures this book gets to the root of what to look for and how to deal with it. Many examples of actual cases are referenced. A helpful reference CD is also included which is just icing for your hard drive.
General Comments.......2005-09-03
This book is quite an applicable book in today's world. Inappropriate use of the computer technology in identity theft, terrorism, etc. is becoming a growing problem. The widespread use of the Internet by government and private institutions opens a bigger gateway for the misuse of their computer systems. All institutions whose computer firewalls have failed to prevent attacks from internal and external elements can use the information provided in this book. This book introduces the reader to a variety of tools and workshops that are available. The book shows how to use compromised computer systems as crime scenes to obtain the necessary evidence for the committed crime. It points out that the country's criminal courts are finding the evidences collected from computer forensics investigations increasingly admissible due to the improved level of computer forensics tools.

Cyber Forensics: A Field Manual for Collecting, Examining, and Preserving Evidence of Computer Crimes
ASIN: 1931836655 |
Book Description
"Cybercrime and cyber-terrorism represent a serious challenge to society as a whole." - Hans Christian Krüger, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe
Crime has been with us as long as laws have existed, and modern technology has given us a new type of criminal activity: cybercrime. Computer and network related crime is a problem that spans the globe, and unites those in two disparate fields: law enforcement and information technology.
This book will help both IT pros and law enforcement specialists understand both their own roles and those of the other, and show why that understanding and an organized, cooperative effort is necessary to win the fight against this new type of crime.
62% of US companies reported computer-related security breaches resulting in damages of $124 million dollars. This data is an indication of the massive need for Cybercrime training within the IT and law enforcement communities.
The only book that covers Cybercrime from forensic investigation through prosecution.
Cybercrime is one of the battlefields in the war against terror.
Download Description
This book is a bridge between two distinct cultures; that of IT professionals responsible for building systems that prevent cybercrime, and law enforcement officials responsible for investigating and prosecuting those crimes. It introduces IT professionals to the highly structured world of law enforcement, where rules of evidence must be followed closely and crime scenes must not be contaminated. It provides law enforcement officers with an understanding of the technical aspects of cybercrime and of how technology can be used to help solve crimes that have been committed.
Customer Reviews:
Tell Me Something I Don't Already Know.......2005-02-07
Littlejohn Shinder writes a fairly topical analyses of various facets of cybercrime -including several- what can only be described as Computers 101 sections but if you're a typical n00b then it will all seem like a glorious epiphany. In Ch 4 she gets a little on the didactic side where she attempts to debunk the various stereotypes and cliched mindsets associated with the hacking community but she falls far short of any real insight.
Don't bother reading this book if you have even a modicum of tech savvy - the writer won't be telling you anything that you don't already know or figured out for yourself hands on. BTW, most of the URLS provided as reference in this book are 404, which is only to be expected given its 2002 publication date, however I include the comment here in this review because if you're like me, then you like to check out the resources the writer used.
Lastly, by no stretch of the imagination should this title be considered a computer forensics book. The only audience that will consider said title as such are executive officers and marketing types who don't have a clue.
Handy little book.......2004-12-31
Overall, a very good book.
At times, tries to be too much to too many.
But good info.
Neither Fish Nor Fowl.......2004-10-19
This is a tough book to review as it tries to speak to two very different audiences -- corporate information security and law enforcement professionals.
The corporate information security professionals will find the technical details misleading and over simplified but will definitely benefit from the detailed discussions of proper process and procedure.
The author leverages her experience as a police officer and academy instructor to good effect in educating us on the viewpoint of the law enforcement community and the requirements we must meet in collecting and preserving admissible evidence.
My advice would be to VERY lightly skim the "technical" material on vulnerabilities, exploits and defenses while reserving detailed reading for the material dealing with process and procedures as well as the logistics for involving and interacting with law enforcement.
So very good on so many levels..........2004-05-09
I'm currently in the middle of the book Scene Of The Cybercrime by Debra Littlejohn Shinder, but I decided to do a review right now. This is a really good book on a number of levels...
Most books on computer and network security are written for the techie trying to secure their assets from outside attack. Obviously, there's a huge need for that information. But it seems that there is virtually nothing written from the law enforcement perspective on computer security. That's a major problem in two ways... For one, there are too few law enforcement personnel that understand exactly what cybercrime is and how it can be detected, fought, and prosecuted. That's probably the audience that would benefit most from this book. Second, most technical personnel don't know what to do in order to successfully build a case and prosecute an attacker once an intrusion has occurred. That's the other audience that will gain the most from reading Shinder's work.
The book includes the following chapters: Facing the Cybercrime Problem Head On; Reviewing the History of Cybercrime; Understanding the People on the Scene; Understanding Computer Basics; Understanding Network Basics; Understanding Network Intrusions and Attacks; Understanding Cybercrime Prevention; Implementing System Security; Implementing Cybercrime Detection Techniques; Collecting and Preserving Digital Evidence; Building the Cybercrime Case
The hardcore network security administrator will probably already know most of the information in the "Understanding..." chapters. But unless they are adept or experienced in forensic analysis, the last three chapters will be crucial information for them. Without the knowledge of how to preserve evidence, there's a good chance that you'll never have the satisfaction of seeing your attacker prosecuted. Higher level managers of a corporate security department will find all of this information useful, as they may not be as hands-on as the administrators and may not understand what threats and risks are present in today's environment.
From the law enforcement perspective, it's all good. Fighting cybercrime is so different than regular law enforcement. This is the perfect volume to give the budding cybercop all the information they need to get up to speed with how crime is conducted electronically. I would recommend that this book be required reading for law enforcement and prosecution personnel.
The book is well written with plenty of real-life examples of criminal activities and legal scenarios. It's one of the most engrossing technical reads I've had in awhile. A definite recommended read...
Generic Information Security reading........2003-12-08
Hi,
This book covers all aspects of information security but the title of the book is kind of misleading as the book only has 2 chapters that talk about anything close to Forensics.
Would recommend this book to someone who is new to Information security . This ones certainly not a Forensics book .

Customer Reviews:
Poor organization and flow.......2006-08-27
This book was a difficult read. The content isn't particularly difficult, but the book's organization and scattered subject matter made it difficult to get through. Though I read the book cover to cover, I often felt I was rereading material.
For example, his 21-page treatment of "Players- Hackers, Crackers, etc." conveyed no more information than did his 6-page overview of them in his Introduction. Even so, I have the distinct impression that the most he's ever seen of a "hacker" is on TV.
My background in this topic has been purely educational (that is to say I've taken 1 forensics class) and I have to agree that there are several books that cover the topic more clearly and more in depth than this one.
My recommendation... go to your local library or book store and spend 30 minutes reading the Introduction, you won't be missing much.
Basic introduction to software forensics.......2004-12-02
Most people know at least a little about forensics, if just from television shows like CSI. Computer forensics are a different matter altogether. Given the unglamorous technical work involved, is there little wonder that prime-time television does not air a show called Computer Forensic Geeks? While not ideal material for adaptation into a prime-time drama, Software Forensics: Collecting Evidence from the Scene of a Digital Crime enlightens the reader by providing a pretty good high-level introduction to the core concepts of computer software forensics.
Author Robert Slade mines solid detail, including listing specific software tools that can be used to identify and track virus creators, however unlikely corporate America might be to invest resources for such an effort. Slade discusses legal rules of evidence and emphasizes the importance of keeping evidence pristine so that its veracity is unshakable.
As a high-level introduction, the book is a good choice. But for more advanced practitioners, much of this material will be common knowledge.
what's new here?.......2004-08-16
There is nothing in this book that has not been covered 50 times before.
Interesting read, but there are gigabytes of similar FEEE data on the same topic on the net.
So why bother?
Any reasonably intelligent person should understand.......2004-06-21
My brother, the computer guru, is back with a new book. This time, his subject is software forensics. That is, studying a trojan horse, virus, worm, or other malware to try to determine who wrote it. I have to admit that, since this is not as common a topic of conversation over the dinner table as computer viruses (the subject of Robert Slade's Guide to Computer Viruses and Viruses Revealed), I was a bit dubious of my ability to make much sense out of such an arcane topic.
I may not know the topic, but I should have known my brother: just as with his earlier works, he takes a complicated topic and explains it in a way that any reasonably intelligent person should be able to understand, without oversimplifying things. Albert Einstein is reputed to have said, "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler." There is a tendency, when trying to explain something complex to a person whose knowledge lies outside that field, to simplify things so much that what you say is partly untrue, and that person would need to "unlearn" the simplification before advancing much farther in that field. I have always tried, when explaining things, never to simplify so much that I say anything untrue. My brother obviously goes by the same principle.
I will not even attempt to deal with the subject matter of the book here. While it is possible that you, gentle reader, are responsible for securing computer systems at your workplace, and thus have need of the tools Rob discusses, the odds are against it, so I will content myself with saying, "My brother's got a new book out! Isn't it cool?"
I will note, in passing, that Rob wears the nasty comments about his books which collect on Amazon with some pride. If his works did not inconvenience the "black hats", they would not go to so much effort to try to discourage people from buying them. (Although having a group of people out to torpedo your work probably doesn't help sales.)
Poor book.......2004-03-16
This is a book by a person who clearly has no real world experience in the word of digital forensic investigations.
While the information is relevant; it should not be used as an authoritative text.
There are much better titles and this should be used as a text of last resort.
