Wonderful Book!.......2000-02-03
This book seems to be a tribute to Black womanhood. It is a lifting of the veil of invisibility, to show an infrastructure, on which much of this country's literature has been written. This author gives voice to a history that exposes the appropriation of more then just bodies. She writes into history from an obscured position that of the female, revealing the deep hidden story of the way things were, acknowledging her story. It is like the backbone to the imagination and depth of American literature is being revealed. This book outlines such a delicate, intricate, detailed thing, the evacuation of wholeness, the extraction of worth from the Black woman, to be grafted onto White women, while at the same time making Black women a depository for the myth of sexual deviant, the origin of impurity. I wrote in all in the margins of the book! I really enjoyed the careful unfolding of the history of women (white) meticulously layered within of the racial constructs of the Black female image. The analysis of the Biblical story of Sarah is thought provoking and painful. The process of the devaluation of Black womanhood is so insidious, so detailed, so diabolical, and so "well" efficiently done! I love the last sentence of the first paragraph on pg. 59! It is so small, such a little detail with huge ramifications! It is the difference. It is everything in such a gentle, seemly benign shift. It is only the difference between the happy slave relieved of that pesky responsibility of freedom and the oppressed masses laboring to death under tyranny! I enjoyed the book! I loved what I read, I savored the voice the book valued and recognized its uniqueness. It made me envision the possibility of a different path of history and the possibilities of a different future! Clearly one of the ways to achieve real progress, a greater revelation of truth is for readers, all readers, to read and reevaluate "the story" they have been given. As the author so clearly states, the path to understanding, to real comprehension lie in, an aesthetically removed, analysis of the concepts and ethics inherent in the foundation of the written word. This concept may be applied to all readings, in by pasting the pleasure, in resisting the seduction of the story a reader is gifted with a more sophisticated, inclusive appreciation of the ideologies hidden within a text.

Great for original Gameboy, but only a couple of pages for Atari Lynx, dissapointing for me.......2007-01-27
I was one of the rare kids that got an atari lynx system to share with my brother, and everybody else got gameboy. I wanted the Lynx because of the color graphics. It does have many good games, but it just never took off as a popular format. Honestly it was ahead of its time, before Sega Gamegear came out and a color handheld years before gameboy ever got true color. I was hoping this book would have a little help for the games I have, and I have accrude over the years about 50 games. Well, it doesn't have many tips for it, bummer for me. But, it does have plenty for original gameboy. So I recommend this for Gameboy, but lynx fans, not the greatest one, but at least they tried.

OFFICE 2000 8 IN 1 STEP BY STEP
Amazon.com
Whether you're upgrading to Office 2000 or using the application suite for the first time, odds are that you'll need some help getting up to speed. Microsoft Press covers all of the bases with Microsoft Office 2000 8-in-1 Step by Step.
In trying to keep the needs of every user in mind, this book might intimidate the novice and yet go too slowly for the power user. In comprehensively touring the eight main programs in the Office package, it may be best suited to intermediate users.
Anywhere from two to five lessons on each application explain usage, including tutorials that show you how to design business cards or schedule meetings. As part of a training program, this would make for a pretty good reference book since each lesson ends with a table of quick explanations for performing the tasks you've just learned.
Microsoft Office 2000 8-in-1 Step by Step comes with a CD-ROM containing examples and multimedia walkthroughs for many of the lessons valuable to "hands-on" learners. Between the lessons, the diagrams, and the information in the book, you should be able to master Office with some patience and diligence. Of course, this is a Microsoft book, so if you're looking for bug reports or unofficial tips and tricks, you'll have to try elsewhere. But if a no-questions-asked tutorial and reference is good enough for you, there's nothing better. --Rob Lightner

Microsoft Office 2000 8 in 1 Step by Step.......2007-01-04
The book is great and was shipped on time.
Big Disappointment.......2005-09-06
This one should be left on the writing room floor. Has some information in it but not nearly enough for the price.
Step By Step.......2001-12-11
I ordered the book and it came propmptly. More promptly than getting Office 2000 loaded on my machine. It looks a bit more simplistic than what I was looking for but it looks like a great book for someone just getting started.
Great initial investment pursuant to MOUS certification.......2000-12-12
My goal for 2001 is to obtain the MOUS certificate at the Master level. I have used MS products with the concentration of my experience centering on Word and Excel. I have used Access sporadically and with intermediate level performance. My experience with PowerPoint leaves much to be desired since I mainly use the wizards. My funds are limited so I wanted an all-inclusive reference (with CD Rom for practice) which would provide a basis for my study. I bought the book from another source (please forgive me oh mighty Amazon) and in terms of area concentration I would say it is intense concentration on beginning information, greater than average concentration on intermediate knowledge and average concentration on advanced applications. This is not a problem - I plan to buy books which center completely on each package as I master the foundation of each package. I would disagree with anyone who states that this is not for the advanced user, with constant upgrades and education there is no way anyone can ever retain each ounce of minutiae that can be acquired; this book is an excellent refresher. For the beginning or intermediate it is an excellent basis for further study.
A Good Introduction to Microsoft Office 2000.......2000-04-04
This book does a great job of explaining the basic concepts of all of the Microsoft Office programs. It also has good practice excerises. It does not, however, touch on any of the advanced or complicated features.

MICROSOFT ACCESS 2000 STEP BY STEP is the easiest and fastest way to teach yourself to use the latest version of Microsoft?s powerful relational database program. Work through every lesson to complete the full course, or do individual lessons to learn jus
Amazon.com
These days, information is the key to success in any endeavor, and powerful database systems make managing and storing data easier. Microsoft Office comes with Access, a powerful database application that makes your information manageable and comprehensible. Microsoft Access 2000 Step by Step will get you started on the road to database mastery.
Clear instructions, plentiful screenshots, and a CD-ROM full of practice files and multimedia demos of complex maneuvers make this book useful to novices while getting the expert up to speed on the new tools available in the 2000 edition. Though it's not comprehensive--programming for Access and all but the most rudimentary database creation instructions are excluded--it discusses the essential tasks users will need to accomplish.
The 12 lessons cover topics ranging from the basics of forms to advanced data presentation. Each lesson gives a time commitment estimate, learning points, and a reference/review at the end for more efficient instruction. After you've worked through the book, it's simple to return and find exactly the help you need when you're elbow-deep in data and suddenly forget your next step. While it's no reference guide, Microsoft Access 2000 Step by Step will have you running Access like a pro in no time. --Rob Lightner
Customer Reviews:
Step By Step Access 2000 A Great Learning Tool .......2007-03-30
I have been using this book for about three weeks. I find the text to be easy to understand and informative. The accompanying CD adds realism to the practices by using data from a fictitious company. Also, the tips and examples are very helpful. I would recommend Sep By Step Access 2000 to anyone who is a beginner or needs a refresher to Access 2000.
Beginners stay away from this.......2006-04-24
This book is slow and inadequate if you want to learn about Microsoft Access. It tries to explain a sample database that comes on a CD with the book. And it is pathetic at that. They hardly ever explain how to create things from scratch. Stay away from this one.
A total disappointment, a worthless book.......2003-10-30
After trying to teach Access to my students with this badly written book I had to give up. I must agree with other reviewers. The book does not come close to explaning the very basics of database management in the right order of ideas. Too bad that Microsoft does not care to review their books before they go to press.
good basic info but somewhat flawed..........2003-07-28
i think this might be good starting point for learning access but there are probably better books out there. a lot of the examples are like "click on this" "type that" without really explaining to you what you are doing or what the other options that are available would do. so you are learning how to do one thing but the menu you chose itfrom has 9 other things you can do that arent explained, so if you were learning access and applying it to something at work if what you were doing didnt match exactly what you did in the book you would still do a lot of guessing or you would need another book. the end of chapter exercises also are either too vague or too step by step (making you feel like you are doing anything other than painting by numbers rather than learning)and there are no "answers" and not even a lot of pictures of what you should end up with, so for all you know you did it all wrong. this book and cd gets you comfortable access but just seems to basic for me for anyone other than someone who barely uses a computer
too slow.......2003-02-03
the book literally goes step by step for even the most simple task. It takes too long to learn even the most basic thing. Furthermore, the book is very procedure oriented. In other words, you learn to accomplish a very specific task without learning how to handle your own need.
