Fly Like a Butterflly.......2007-08-23
Brilliantly photographed. The sheer joy of yoga shows on all of the little faces. I plan to use it as a teaching tool and hope my little yogis find joy in my classes.

My 3 year old LOVES this.......2006-05-24
This book is great! I like to do a lot of fun things with my kids and this book helps me to "instruct" the under 3 crowd in my house. The kids love it and everyone laughs when we do it! A definite must buy!
Easy Breezy Fun Yoga Book.......2004-11-18
Out of three Children Yoga books I bought off of Amazon, this was far the best! it gave me a lot of ideas to work with and was able to build up a lot of lessons to teach the children. Children love the chanting meditaions and acting like the animals in the jungle story.
Great ideas to incorporate into children's yoga practice.......2003-05-08
This was my first children's yoga purchase which I still use today when teaching young ones. This book gives many different stories to tell as you are teaching children to move their bodies and breath within the poses. A great tool for educators and parents of children preschool through elementary age.
Captivating and Exhilarating.......2002-05-04
"Fly Like a Butterfly" is truely exhilarating and simply FUN! The photos are absolutely beautiful.
I have nine nieces and nephews and practice yoga with them weekly. They LOVE the "Frog". Because of your book we have a new found love.... YOGA!
Thank you Shakta for bringing "Children and Yoga" into my life.
Book Description
Go straight to the heart of yogic teachings! Too often, Westerners perform the yoga positions without considering the form's underlying philosophy and spiritual dimension. For the first time, in this new and elegant translation from the Sanskrit, all the sutras appear in an accessible question-and-answer format, along with special queries that encourage self-reflection. The result is a treasure trove of insight. 275 pages, 1 b/w illus., 6 x 9.

Think on these..........2004-07-19
What an amazing reflection on the sturas! Bouanchaud does an exceptional job breaking down the sutras into managable chunks, with leading questions to help you personalize and internalize the ancient text. Giving the sanskrit words and pronunciation along side the english is also helpful. The "table of contents" listing of each sutra at the beginning of the book is a wonderful way to find the sutra you seek, though they are all such phenominal concepts to think on. The questions for each sutra are wonderful to start a yoga class, a conversation, or just a way to start your thought process rolling. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, it will change the way you see things!
Next best thing to studying w/ an exceptional teacher.......2000-01-17
I have actively studied this book for over 2 years. It is the next best thing to studying with a learned scholar & practitioner. While studying w/ two such teachers, I have used several translations. While they all have their merits, none are as good as this for conveying an understanding of the work as a whole and it's relevance to perennial human concerns. The literal translation of each sutra is the least vauable part of the book and here I can see room for some debate on a few individual sutras. More valuable, however, is the commentary and discussion. Here the book excels, like a good teacher. I found the occasional scholarly tangential discussion of Samkhya and Ayurveda quite useful and relevant to better understand the overall content. If I had to recommend just one sutra book, this would be it.
A decent book on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.......1999-10-02
I ordered this book from Amazon and was amazed by the structure and content of this presentation. The only factor that may distract the careful reader is that it is a translation from French and by no means it is perfect. Some misspelling remained and there are some sentences that leave the reader clueless (not necessarily because of the cosmic info transmitted). The original work must be a decent piece, it is a pity that its translation is less accurate.
If really interested in the Yoga Sutras, by I.K. Taimni's 'The Science of Yoga', which is exactly about the same topic, discussing the Yoga Sutras, but really in-depth.
Book Description
This extraordinary on-the-page class in brush painting explores both the technical and spiritual aspects of China’s ancient art, helping students to paint with confidence, skill, and understanding. Lavishly packed with breathtaking illustrations and detailed instructional photos, it discusses materials, styles, and themes, as well as special topics such as the influence of calligraphy on painting, the importance of arranging the workspace properly, and the use of a seal to “sign” the finished work. Each chapter is like a perfectly formed monograph rich in information on inks, papers, art utensils, holding the brush correctly, making exquisite-looking strokes and pictograms, applying color, and mastering the techniques for representing vegetation, animals, the human figure, portraits, and evocative landscapes. Well-constructed practice exercises complete this enlightening course.

Book Description
T'ai chi chuan may literally mean "the ultimate way of the fist," but you don't have to be in fighting form to experience its multitude of benefits. It's an ancient art that demands skill and discipline, facilitates relaxation, and promotes awareness of the body and its energy flow. With its historical and practical perspectives, and wonderful archive illustrations (including Chinese engravings and watercolors), this handbook irresistibly draws you into the world and atmosphere of t'ai chi. What changes can you expect to experience when you start this course? T'ai chi calms brain processes, respiratory and pulse rates, and emotions. It shifts the mind from stress-related thoughts; improves use and coordination of muscles and joints; slows down the aging process; releases positive, controlled energy; reduces or eliminates the need for drugs; enhances performance in work and leisure, and aids sleep. Start by cultivating internal energy with chi kung, a related but even older form of martial art that t'ai chi has incorporated. It involves slow, sometimes completely static exercises, including sitting in meditation. Because stillness and inner focus are such essential elements in Taoist philosophy, and a key to complete relaxation, you'll also investigate the principles behind wu-wei--"doing nothing" or "letting be." An entire program (over 100 pages) of tai'chi exercises follows, all designed to encourage positive energy flow and mental well-being. Each exercise or sequence has step-by-step photographs with detailed captions, and tip boxes highlighting common faults and how to avoid them. Simple, repetitive introductory movements help you become accustomed to the technique befor
Customer Reviews:
Beware - there is no way to learn tai-chi with this book.......2003-11-10
Well, sometimes it can be challengen to learn forms from someone who does them right, but it is rather imposible to learn tai-chi from pictures of the person who does it completele wrong. People who made this book do not dare to present photos of wrong forms, 24 form is presented in such mediocre quality that I could not belive they had guts to create it.
If you really want to learn tai-chi, find responsible and knowledgeble teacher and try to read books written by proffesionals and masters... and do not even consider to waste money for sloppy movements presented in this book.
Detailed instructions for the student.......2000-08-17
This book is great for the beginner who is just learning the Yang style Simplified Form and for the more advanced student. Of course, Tai Chi is best learned with the guidance of a teacher, but a book like this would be very helpful. The book starts with some philosophy and history of Tai Chi, continues with Qigong exercises, then details the movements and postures of the 24 forms--each illustrated with several color photos--and finishes up with a chapter on meditation. I enjoyed the book for its beautiful illustrations, its clear descriptions, and because it teaches the forms the way I know them. I will recommend it to my students.

Much Better than Rigger 2.......2000-03-30
Ignore rigger 2 and the vehicle rules for SR3, they're garbage. Anyone remember the matrix rules before SR3 and VR2.0, well, Rigger 2 is worse, now it's a everyone sits out while the rigger does a maneuver situation rather than a matrix run. RBB is truly awesome, nice artwork, gives you a feel for the game with the Shadowtalk(from Shadowland), and in general is a must have. If you want riggers in your game, use this book and SR2's rules, ignore the 3rd edition stuff. The combo of the 2 makes for imo the best rigger system out. I seriously hope FASA goes back to this style of writing books soon.
Must-need for any rigger.......1999-11-25
I have seen this Rigger book and must say, it is phenominal. I was suprised to see that Amazon had anything on Shadowrun at all, but this is amazing. Very detailed with great new vehicles and spectacular drawings, a must for anyone who wants more than the average Shadowmobile.
An absolute necessity for continued game balance........1997-11-30
The Rigger Black Book represents the expansion that makes rigging worth being an archetype. Quite frankly, the rigger is nearly a pointless waste of focus in game terms without this expansion. Each archetype got enough toys and game mechanics to make them practical but until this book, Riggers were glorified cheaffeurs. I can hire one for less than it costs to get rigged!!!! Get this book if you want to really expand your gaming possibilities to include exciting high speed chases and low brow humor.
Must Have Shadowrun Supplement.......1997-10-25
The Riggers Black Book, as it sounds, is the complete guide to rigging. The main book for Shadowrun Second Edition is very sketchy, but this book clarifies, and expands on the concepts given in SRII. If your riggers are to have a good chance of survival, the Rigger's Black Book is about their only savior. The book is also a guide to the majority of the vehicular items in the whole game, so all players should try to be familiar with the contents. The eight rating is due to the lack of a Second Edition reprint. The only RBB available currently is going to require some adjusting by gamemasters to fit into the current game mechanics.
Book Description
With the help of the Internet and accompanying tools, creating and publishing online maps has become easier and rich with options. A city guide web site can use maps to show the location of restaurants, museums, and art venues. A business can post a map for reaching its offices. The state government can present a map showing average income by area. Developers who want to publish maps on the web often discover that commercial tools cost too much and hunting down the free tools scattered across Internet can use up too much of your time and resources. Web Mapping Illustrated shows you how to create maps, even interactive maps, with free tools, including MapServer, OpenEV, GDAL/OGR, and PostGIS. It also explains how to find, collect, understand, use, and share mapping data, both over the traditional Web and using OGC-standard services like WFS and WMS. Mapping is a growing field that goes beyond collecting and analyzing GIS data. Web Mapping Illustrated shows how to combine free geographic data, GPS, and data management tools into one resource for your mapping information needs so you don't have to lose your way while searching for it. Remember the fun you had exploring the world with maps? Experience the fun again with Web Mapping Illustrated. This book will take you on a direct route to creating valuable maps.
Customer Reviews:
Good overview of web mapping.......2007-02-18
This book is readable, nice to look at, and does a good job of pulling a lot of information into one place. Finding information about the different GIS packages in the web is a challenge. If you don't know GIS already, like me, you're lost. This book helped me find my bearings, and in no time I was able to take shapefiles, do processing on them, and display the results in a web page dynamically.
The problem with this book is that it's fairly shallow. It will give you a couple of basic examples of how to use some pieces of software, but for anything more complicated, you have to look elsewhere. There is frustratingly little information on mapscript, but, overall, I'd say the book fulfills its role.
Great if you know nothing about free software - otherwise avoid the book..........2006-06-30
To be short and to the point... the title basically covers the primary issue I had with the book... I felt most of the book could be summed up in about 20 pages but yet it was still a full book of how to go get a free piece of software, connect a GPS, and chart where you were going...
Note: I was most likely disappointed because I was truly looking for a much more technical discussion on how GPS databases work and how to decode GIS information. In the past when I have prucased books form the publisher they were much more in depth on technical aspects of the systems, data, and so forth. In this case it was a discussion of how to sue free software and a GPS... no truly what I had in mind.
Oh, well... other I'm sure will enjoy it... just didn't fill the bill for me...
MapServer, PostGIS, OGR etc........2006-03-24
Author doesn't assume you know anything. Examples are UNIX, but he explains very well. He doesn't talk down to Windows users (apparently Mapserver installs easily on Windows). Very exciting. Explains map projections well. Good reading on the airplane. If you're an open source geek and/or a GIS person and a UNIX enthusiast, you'll be very happy.
Great intro book to open source web mapping.......2006-03-22
This is an interesting, well written intro book for open source web mapping enthusiasts. I found some helpful tips and also appreciated the traps to avoid sections. The material gave me a greater knowledge and appreciation of MapServer in particular allowing me to move onto more in depth books quickly.
Indispensable reference on mapping.......2005-12-02
With revolutionary technology, Google Earth now lets computer users zoom through space to specific sites all over the world. Mapping is also making great strides in the law enforcement world, where geographic information systems (GIS) have been replacing pin maps. Systems such as New York City's COMPSTAT have been highly successful in mapping and depicting virtually any combination of crime/arrest locations, crime hot spots, and other information in real time.
While not specifically written for law enforcement, Web Mapping Illustrated is a valuable guide for those who are interested in using maps and other GIS tools. The Internet hosts many open-source mapping tools, making the creation and publishing of online maps much easier and more effective.
Web Mapping Illustrated is written for those wishing to avoid expensive commercial software mapping systems and instead use open-source and other free tools. The book details the use of free mapping software and tools such as MapServer, GDAL, OpenEV, and PostGIS. It also explains how to find, collect, understand, use, and share various mapping data sources.
All 14 chapters are well written and organized, progressing from the basics to the publication of sophisticated interactive Web maps. Fittingly, the book makes effective use of numerous full-color maps and software screenshots
