Book Description
Rosi's films consistently and directly address the themes of political and institutional corruption and the complex relationship between the individual, the mafia, and the state. Whether evoking the multiple facets of Sicilian banditry in Salvatore Giuliano (1962), exposing right-wing killing squads in Cadaveri eccellenti (Illustrious Corpses) (1976), or courageously debating the roots of Italian terrorism in Tre fratelli (Three Brothers) (1981), his gripping political-documentary works have managed to combine factual and intellectual rigor with box office success and wide critical acclaim. This book offers a series of essays by leading Italian academics, each exploring a key Rosi film, together with an interview and comprehensive bibliographic and filmographic material. A notable feature is an article by the director himself, in which he reflects on the development and future of Italian political cinema.

Product Description
The Pan American clipper ships of the 1930s and 1940s were technological marvels of their time. The years before World War II found the United States faced with international challenges of an economic as well as a military nature. Aided by government regulations and contracts, the Pan Am clippers were, for a time, the only international craft to carry the U.S. flag. Commercially, they rivaled the comfort and popularity of passenger trains and luxurious cruise ships. Militarily, they were unmatched by anything the Germans, Russians, Italians or French could produce. The only long-range aircraft capable of carrying transoceanic payloads, clippers became instantly valuable with the onset of the war. Marketed as the ultimate in commercial--or military--airfare, these flying boats became as much an American icon as the Pan Am logo itself. From the movie screen to the bookshelf, this volume examines the multitude of ways in which the values inherent in Pan American Airways' clipper ships played out in popular culture. The book discusses the strategies Pan Am used to represent the clipper as a paragon of U.S. interests, values and beliefs. Mirroring the moods of the times, the clipper became a consistent American icon, being associated with the Statue of Liberty and the American eagle. The main focus of the work is the variety of ways in which this iconographic status manifested itself through toys, movies, pulp fiction, comic books and music. Clipper influence is also examined in other unlikely places such as the name of an available car color, car models, restaurant menus and lounge names. An appendix explains different models of the clipper flying boats.

China Clipper, PanAm Airways and Popular Culture.......2007-08-10
If you're in to aviation history, and especially PanAm and the Clippers, you'll enjoy this book. Lots of interesting trivia.
Who knew that China Clipper was so influential? .......2007-02-24
Larry Weirather's excellent book about the cultural impact of the China Clipper is a great read. If you're a Clipper enthusiast or interested in popular culture you will enjoy this thoroughly researched book. I was amazed that Weirather could trace back many of what we think of as cultural norms to the era of the Great Flying Boats. The Clipper pilots were analogous to the astronauts of today. Their exploits help lift American out of the malaise of the Great Depression. A must have book for the serious Clipper buff.

Customer Reviews:
Very Cool..... my players love this book.......2005-06-10
It has some really neat classes in here.
You should only bother buying it if you need some other ideas for creating unique characters.
Adequate, better than the first one.......2004-11-02
This was better than the first one of the same series. The first one had almost nothing to offer any player would likely want. This one has a few that are both more interesting and more powerful. Don't get me wrong, there were no outrageous overpowered classes like some books provide. Even the good ones were not as powerful as some of the 'core' PrC's that Wizards offers. Still, there is enough variety that this is a better value than the first one, it's worth getting if you're looking for more PrC's to use and don't mind spending some money.

Customer Reviews:
Very Easy to Understand - Humoristic Writing.......2007-05-19
Very well organized book for starter.
Reason giving only 4 stars is while the first few chapters has both C# and VB source codes, when it gets to later advanced topics, only VB codes are available.
Pretty good All in one Reference.......2007-01-29
I have to say I'm rating this product without completly reading the whole thing, that said... I can say the book is a real useful tool to introduce you into the basics of dotNET programing.
I've programming in VBscript (ASP) pages for years, and I've been meaning to start with the dotNET stuff for quite a bit now. This book is writen in the same way as all for dummies books, very easy to follow, and very straight forward, however it's exactly about what the title says: a reference.
To actually learn dotNET programming from zero, you have to learn a hell of a lot of stuff! Thats why this book is so good. If you have never programmed before and want to jump in to the dotNET world, this book provides you with the basics of almost everything you need. BUT this is the thing: You will be a bit confused if you don't know any programming at all and you start reading from the beggining, for its been perfect so far, but for newbies I guess it would be confussing so you will find your self skipping to later chapters to get some introduction into HTML or Visual basic.net or C#. The book will save you a lot of time and money if you have some basic knowledge of HTML and server side programming, but if you none at all I would start with the Visual Basic or C# part, or even HTML if you need it.
So the conclusion is It's a very useful compilation of 8 books that you would normally buy separatly if you had NOOO IDEA at all of developping websites with programming languajes. If you have some basic knowledge you will probably not read all of it, but hey! its a reference book for dummies! So as I said, pretty good buy and very complete. Of course you will need to get other docummentation in order to get a higher knowledge of decent dotNET programming.
One thing i noticed is that the main code examples are in both languajes C# and VB.net but sometimes it only mentions the C# cases, so it seems its more focused to this languaje.
Very Impressed.......2006-12-09
My company throws different projects in my lap and I have to scramble to learn new technology in order to meet the deadline.
I was very impressed on how this book helped set up things I needed in Asp.net.
Easy to find things and very easy to follow with plain explanations.
ANd, with C++ and VB reference, I was very pleased.
It might not have ALL the answers, but no book ever does.
As a beginner, I was very pleased.
good compilation.......2006-11-05
Saved me some money combining several books. Easy to read and understand.

Customer Reviews:
A better title would include the words "visual basic".......2007-08-22
I think Dummies books are hit-or-miss. I always start with them, when embarking on something I am a dummy at. About half the time, they put you off to a good first step. That's not a bad record at all.
I'll always be grateful to the Dummies series, which got me started writing code with the help of Wallace Wang's Visual Basic 6 for Dummies.
This Dummies book is the best one I have read yet. But I like it for reasons that may not serve every customer of the book, so be warned. What makes this book such a gem is the author's ease at conveying the basics (and then some) of the V(isual)B(asic).Net language and framework. His ability to present concepts like objects, classes, functions, sub-routines in a simple manner using simple language is like nothing I have ever read. And I have a TON of reference manuals on my shelf. Truly, I have never REALLY understood what a "class" is, how to think about it in a way that my mind honestly gets around the concept, until reading this book. And I have been a fairly serious amateur programmer now for nearly a decade!
This book is without question a better primer on the Visual Basic language than Bill Sempf's Visual Basic 2005 for Dummies. Crazy, but true.
Still, it should be noted: ASP.NET works with lots of different programming languages. If you are a C# person, this book is probably going to seriously irritate you.
I can't imagine someone who isn't a Visual Basic programmer getting much out of this book. And I can't imagine someone who does use the VB language finding a better start at ASP.NET programming. Or a better start at understanding basic Visual Basic language concepts as well.
Hatfield hasn't written anything since this; I hope he hasn't retired, because I want him to teach me the next thing that I am a Dummy at...
ASP.NET for DUMMIES.......2007-08-04
Only having truly scanned through and hit the highlights of this book thus far. I already see many familiar concepts broken down into much simpler terms which allow me to quickly grasp the meat of the ASP language and paired with my new understanding of C# feel as though I will be able to use this book as a reference for a long time to come. The CD examples are also very good for visual and hands on learning.
Great for getting oriented to .Net web development.......2006-08-04
I am a software developer with 24 years experience, and have been doing .Net Windows Form database programming for the past 5+ years.
As I am new to web development and will soon be working on an ASP.Net 2.0 project, I've been checking out the available books on this topic. I happened to look through this one at Borders, although I normally steer clear of "Dummies" books (guess I must be getting desperate..)
This seems to be one of the best books available for getting a gentle introduction to the subject. The Microsoft Step-by-Step book for ASP.Net 1.1 also seemed fairly decect (although roundly trashed in the Amazon reviews) but it's 2.0 replacement is a bit of a gangly mess unfortunately--they should have stayed with the original format, and possibly author as well.
For a Windows programmer, web development in general sometimes resemble a "Bizarro" world: familiar, but different in initially strange and myserious ways. This book does a really good job of familiarizing you with the terrain, and I would highly recommend it as a first step into the ASP.Net realm.
Of course, everybody's taste in books is different, so check it out first at Borders before ordering..
Good book for learning ASP.NET 2.0 basics.......2006-06-09
If you are new to ASP.NET or have little to no programming experience this is a good book to start with. It will teach you the basics of ASP.NET 2.0, VB (No C# here) and some basic programming constructs.
There are some errors in the book, which is why I did not give it 5 stars. One example of an error is on page 310 dealing with a HyperLinkField and the DataNavigateURLFormatString; this is something that apparently changed from the beta version the book was written with and the final release. (you need to convert this to template for it to work correctly). The book also touches on web parts but the code did not work, no errors just didn't work.
If you know some programming and want to get beyond the dummies I'd recommend ASP.NET 2.0 in 24 Hours by Scott Mitchell, a very good book without the smarminess that comes with the dummies titles.
Not what expected.......2006-06-05
This book its deficient and it doesnt explain you how to use the Visual Studio Interface.

Customer Reviews:
Great Book but Beware!!!.......2007-02-20
This is a very good book but It is not a tutorial. It assumes a certain level of ASP.Net 2.0 understanding. The applications are completed for you and it is up to you to aquire the knowledge to fill in the blanks. I would recommend it to intermediate developers or novice developers who are willing to dig for the answers.
Wasn't expecting life to be THIS difficult..........2006-10-02
This is NOT a dummies book, in any sense of the word. This book assumes that you have a well-grounded knowledge of programming to begin with and it takes you into the world of asp.net programming from that perspective. While I found that the subject matter was easy to follow, for the most part, some of the issues that I ran into were so frustrating to me that I find myself wanting to put this book in the trash and sign up for a college course. At least there, when you run into a situation that the teacher wants you to learn, you have the teacher there to explain WHAT he is trying to teach you.
