5 out of 5 stars Well worth it!.......2004-04-18

This book is impressive. It is packed with fascinating color photos from both the film and Bobby Jones' life. Much more than a biography, it features essays from Jones' friends and people who were involved in the making of the film--from the director to the star of the movie. It is a must have for movie buffs or anyone interested in golf.

    Book Description

he Left Behind series of apocalyptic Christian fiction is an incredibly popular phenomenon. Since 1995, Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins have sold over fifty million copies of their books, and are consistently on the bestseller lists. What does this say about popular Christian fiction? What does it say about pop culture and religion in general? And is there any significance to the biblical references in the books? In this fascinating collection, six contributors discuss aspects of the Left Behind craze and compare the series interpretation of the Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ with the common teachings of western religions. Complete with reading group discussion questions, this is a must-have for readers of Left Behind-whether true believers or science fiction fans-who want a smart and comprehensive companion guide.

    4 out of 5 stars A Balanced View.......2004-06-03

In this volume edited by Forbes and Kilde, we have six contributors who walk a fine line. On the one hand they objectively point out the main points that LaHaye and Jenkins make. On the other hand they observe where they and others differ from the perspectve and biblical interpretation of LaHaye and Jenkins. Above all, they strugle to explain the series' popularity! A wonderfully balanced treatment that anyone interested in the Left Behind series should read!

      Book Description

The HEROES OF HIGH FAVOR series has a solid premise and a tight focus: each book contains a toolkit of additional feats, skills, character concepts, and prestige classes to encourage the exploration of your race's favored class. The DWARVES book, for example, has a prestige class offering for fighter-barbarians (the battlerager), fighter-bards (the dwarven skald), fighter-clerics (the runepriest), and so on. Each book also contains several new feats designed specifically for each race/class combination. The DWARVES book not only serves up several new feats for fighters, there are mystical Runecrafting feats so that dwarves can explore their creative side.Of course, there is also a section detailing new skills and new uses for old skills. The DWARVES book, as you might suspect, contains a section to greatly expand traditional dwarven Craft skills-- armorsmithing, weaponsmithing, blacksmithing, and stonemasonry. Taking the concept of "masterwork" beyond a mere +1 bonus, this section allows dwarven PC's to craft enhanced alloys, adding hardness, durability and flexibility, or to improve the mobility and balance of a suit of armor. In short, you'll not only discover what it really takes to craft an adamantine sword or mithral plate, you'll finally have the complete ruleset to do it!

This book was excellent in helping me study for the CISSP exam. Good luck.

5 out of 5 stars Great Study resource.......2007-09-25

I just passed the test. I used the Passport, this book, and the Official Guide to the (ISC)2 CBK to study along with practice tests, etc. I thought this was the best study guide out of them. The CBK guide gives more information on the various topics but this gives you a lot of the information you need and I would highly recommend anyone taking the exam to read this book. The Passport was also useful as a brief study guide. It gives a good overview to read first and to read through again to refresh for the test. The practice questions on the CD were also very helpful in preparation. I have never been disappointed with any of the books in the All in One series that i have read.

5 out of 5 stars Excelente libro para el autoestudio.......2007-09-11

Recomiendo leer este libro a todas las persona que quieren obtener la certificación.

      1 out of 5 stars I CAN'T STAND LIBERAL FEMINISTS.......2007-09-08

If you're like me and annoyed by morons that can't keep their mouths shut about politics (ya know, the kind of people that think everyone wants to hear their liberal ranting and complaining "I hate all men", feminist whining) you may NOT want to venture into this book.

If you read quite a few of the following reviews, you'll find MANY others that tried to warn me about this FEMINIST author NOT being able to keep her mouth shut about politics and hatred of men while YOU "attempt" to learn and/or prepare to take the CISSP, this liberal femy is sounding off throughout the book.

This is why I can't stand liberals (especially liberal feminist women). I picture the author with very short hair, wearing all black, sitting at a Mac, typing her feminist book while sipping Starbucks she picked up in her VW.

The world would be such a better place if these types could CONTROL themselves enough to leave their politics at home, especially when the subject at hand is IT Security.

5 out of 5 stars Great Resource .......2007-08-22

I took the CISSP exam on August 12, 2007 and just received word on yesterday that I've passed. I can't express enough how important this book was in helping me prepare for the exam. This book was my primary resource for studying for the exam along with www.cccure.org. I also took a week long class which kind of helped. The reason I say 'kind of' is because I had pretty much read the book and the class was more of a review for me. I think that between this book and www.cccure.org the exam can be passed. Great resource for the exam.

3 out of 5 stars Not really all-in-one.......2007-05-14

In my opinion this book is pretty good for study material, but the things it lacks are more in-depth thinking questions for every chapter.

I am not sure about the writing style. This book does have formal way of writing to present the materials but it sometime overlaps with previous chapters which made me feel boring. I prefer an easier to understand writing style instead of formal.

If this book is arranged and written according to compTIA objectives just like sybex does with its books, I think this will make the reader easier to navigate the area that they want to focus more.

This book covers cryptography in great details which is good, even though not all of them will be examined, such as the way how the algorithm is written and the formula.

As for other things, this book is good enough, worth reading but to really pass security+ exam, other books are recommended in combination with this book. I passed the exam with the help of this book along with sybex Fast Pass and got the measureup from newhorizon which is a training center that I used.

      5 out of 5 stars Security +.......2007-03-08

The book is relevant to the Certification objectives. I recommend it to all those who are interested in certifying for Security + exam.

The book is so good just take care becouse.....
the book says "Include: Learningkey video trainning" and this is false the book does not have any video.

5 out of 5 stars Best Security+ on the market.......2007-02-08

I have read three books for this exam: Shon Harris CISSP, this book, and the ultimate Security+ exam cram book. I also sampled a large deal of books at barnes and Noble...

As far as Security+ books go this is hands down the best one. Everything is explained in great detail in a clear and concise fashion. I liked the format of the book too. Initially most topics are touched upon, then in later chapters they are expanded upon. For those not familiar with education techniques, this is one of the best ways to help the reader retain the information. You first introduce the basic concepts, and how they fit into a larger picture, and then later on go further into detail. This is better than tackling each subject in order, and really accelerates the learning process.

It also repeats important concepts several times, and constantly refreshes you on the topic. Many things in security are interconnected... If you learn about Kerberos, or single sign on early in the book then you might forget exactly what it does when you reach the later chapters. This book is good in refreshing you on details so you never get lost in the jargon. Every time a crucial process is reintroduced for a different subject area, it is re-explained and shown how it fits into the current topic. This saves you from a lot of frustration and is done in a where you actually need it (so it doesn't seem overly repetitive).

As others have mentioned, NOT EVERYTHING is covered. Still, the book does a very good job of covering core concepts. I do reccommend Shon Harris' CISSP book to fill in the holes. While the CISSP book covers more material than is covered in the Security+, it overlaps a great deal. You can just skip over the parts you don't need to know in detail and read the parts also included on the Security+ exam. They compliment each other very well. Between the two, there are practically no holes. The two books also presented each other very differently and I wasn't bored, nor did I feel like I was reading the same stuff over and over again.

The only other con is that yes, the end of the chapter questions are WEAK. They don't assess your knoweledge very well at all. In fact, you can skim a chapter and still do fine on the questions. You'd probably be well off using commercial testing solutions if you want to evaluate your knoweledge of the subject..

Overall the book does its job. It is a solid primary source of information. I really encourage people to buy and read this book first before studying anything else for the Security+. If you read this book and still want to know more, the CISSP book by Shon Harris is extremely good supplementary reading. Read those two books, understand their topics, and you WILL pass the Security+ easily. While this may be a lot of reading, it will cover just about EVERYTHING you need to know.

      ABOUT THE TEST:

While people say that Security+ is an "entry level" security certification, people need to realize this isn't an entry level category. Security+ requires users to have a great deal of experience/knoweledge in the IT field, otherwise you probably will fail. I was very suprised when I started studying for this test. It covers a large spectrum of technology and applications and also goes enough into detail that you have to actually know and understand the technology and procedures involved. I have used this test as a steping stone for the CISSP (there is a LOT of overlapping), and I think it is well worth the effort.

Who needs to take this test? Well I'd reccommend it before taking the MCSE (it gives you credit towards a MCSE/MCSA requirement. It is also a great way to prepare towards a CISSP, the most accepted security certification. Really, it is like a more reasonable form of the CISSP being that it is widely available at testing centers and costs far less to take the test. I think this certification is dragged down because of the "easy" reputation of A+ and Network+, which truly are "entry level" tests. Anyone who wants to show security competence should take this test..

      5 out of 5 stars Good guide.......2007-01-03

I used this book for a class that required it as well as for prep for the CompTIA Security+ Certification. I found it quite useful and passed my test from the study I did in class and this book alone. It's comprehensive and well organized.

2 out of 5 stars Not a good book for Exam Guide, maybe reference.......2004-05-18

This book, while obviously having loads of information, is not as helpful as its price should indicate. I found many small typos throughout the book, and there are numerous times that I found actually incorrect information. After studying this book very heavily, I found that it only mentioned about two-thirds of what I actually found on the test (CSPFA 642-521). When I took the test, I was completely surprised by much of the information. The packaged test in the book is really just a test on the book itself, and does not represent the actual test very well (CSPFA 642-521). This book does have a lot of information, and can be used as a study guide, but I would absolutely recommend buying another book to supplement it, or taking a course.

3 out of 5 stars Fair, considering the competition.......2004-04-01

I've used four CCSP-related books in preparing for teaching the CCSP subject material, and have found none of them completely up to the task. The All-In-One covers the SECUR and CSPFA material reasonably well, though starts to fall down with CSVPN and is mediocre at best for CSIDS. CSI? Well that gets all of four pages of bullet points reprinted from the official Cisco exam content and the recommendation to go and read the free Cisco SAFE whitepapers.

As with all CCSP books, much of the text is borrowed (some might say plagiarised, given no referencing is used) from the official Cisco documentation. Picking a page pretty much at random: p 466 discusses Split Tunnelling for the VPN 3000 Concentrator; the text here is a lightly edited copy from the (free) Cisco VPN 3000 Config Guide, rel 4.1, p 271 (13.35).

This book has many factual and editorial errors (e.g. picking random examples from my annotations: figures in Chapter 24 are all off-by-one, IP addresses given in screen grabs in Chapter 15 are incorrect; the description of HMAC on p. 292 confuses the shared key with a private key) to the point that causes the reader to question the validity of the material (perhaps this is intentional to force students to check everything!). Even some of the copied Cisco documentation has errors introduced: e.g. the diagrams of the IDS architecture in Chapter 24 are incorrect when compared to the original Cisco documentation, and the text. Pretty much all of Chapter 25 (CSIDS) is out of date and no longer relevant to the current (2004) exams. As of March 2004, the publisher's web site has not released any errata.

The material covering the SECUR and CSPFA exams is about 80-90% of what you'll need to review to prepare for those exams; for the remaining 10-20% and for the other exams you WILL need to refer to other references (i.e. the Cisco documentation). For CSIDS and CSI, this book will be of very little help.

Having said all of the above, I can vouch for this book being about the best of a bad bunch. None of the competing books seem to be any better!

5 out of 5 stars The best book.......2003-09-05

The CCSP all in one is The best books I have read by far covering all the important objectives covering Cisco Security. The book covers 3.6 auto-initiation very clear and I was able to pass the CSVPN easily. The book takes a no-nonsense approach and I will find myself using it as an excellent reference now and in the future. Well written and easy to understand if you are preparing for the CCSP, you need to include this as a must.
