Book Description
Darkness has fallen on the city of Portland, Oregon. One by one, the wives of affluent and respected men are vanishing from their homes. The only clues to their disappearance are a single black rose and a note that reads "Gone, But Not Forgotten." It is the rebirth of a horror that has already devastated a community at the opposite end of the country -- and, as it did then, terror and death will follow.
Defense attorney Betsy Tannenbaum is trapped in a nightmare as the shadows of a killer darken her world. And she will soon be risking everything she has and everyone she loves to defend a cold, powerful, and manipulating client who may be a victim ... or a monster.

Phillip Margolin---author.......2006-11-04
I just discovered this author a few months back. His books are interesting and fast paced. You won't be able to put his books down until the end!
Gone, But Not Forgotten By Phillip Margolin.......2006-07-17
Most sadistic and upsetting book I have ever read in so many years, 25 +. Never passed 40 pages. Pure evil towards human beings. I bought it new (2 stories, CostCo, any kid can pick it up and buy it, both bestselling, both the same scheme and disgusting, I checked the contents and some samples) and then threw it into the garbage (no recycling, someone might pick it up and read it), because my conscience does not allow me to pass it on to any sane person I know of or even sell it at a garage sale feeling OK. It's just fine in the garbage. Never before threw a book away, they were always treasured. But may this one rest in peace (I doubt it, with the contents). What happened to ratings to protect innocent and sane children, teenagers, and normal adults? If I knew my teenager would read a book like that, I'd be off to find a GOOD counselor and get that author into jail. Why do we have strict ratings with movies and magazines, but my 14 year old teenager has access to a junk book like this? Parents, we really need to watch out for these things. Our family is open and free-minded, so it is even more a shock. I will NEVER buy a book by Phillip Margolin again for myself or my family. Personally, it seems he is in real trouble and needs help. I'm a very involved reader ever since I could read, from Solchenizyn over Agathe Christie to Jon Krakauer (and everything in between). Never seen something bad like this. Be careful and know there are many books out there that will enrich your minds and lives Everyday lifeid difficult enough already, we don't need more (hopefully fictional) events to ruin them. Enjoy your summer and cheers!
Not a dull moment.......2006-07-05
Excellent book, I could not put the book down. Non stop suspense.
Loved it.Fast, fast going book.
Good read.......2006-06-17
If you've watched Lifetime, you've seen this plot a hundred times (it would seem). It's an easy read - something light for the summer. You should enjoy it - just don't expect too much.
Why The Black Rose?.......2006-06-09
Margolin was the first criminal defense attorney to use the 'battered woman's syndrome' as a defense in court. The defense lawyer in this novel is Elizabeth (Betsy) Tannenbaum, last name of the last book I reviewed prior to this one. Betsy professionally represented a battered woman who was forced to kill an abusive husband. The judge told her, "I hope you can put this behind you and get on with your life."
There are many kinds of abuse besides getting physically hurt. Emotional abuse is just as damaging in the long run; the wounds are not visible but lie just beneath the skin, near the surface. After the victim has endured as much as she can take and has no other alternative except to fall into the parass of physical violent retaliation for her pain and suffering. "He hurt you. Men are like that" so they can live out their fantasies. Other men discard you (like yesterday's newspaper).
A black rose, a note which proclaimed, "Gone, But Not Forgotten": a conundrum not ever to be figured out. Where'd Vicky go and why? Some women are better gone and forgotten. Divorce is always a painful process. For most of us, once is enough, but I have known some who went through five or six divorces. One man bragged, "All they got from me was their name back" until the last one who was able to take (with the Court's help) almost everything he loved and legally owned. He was left an empty shell.
When one has been hurt in the process, she will find some way to be "not ever forgotten." No abuse is ever forgotten, either, even if the victim represses the worst parts. He will someday suffer greater agony than he dispensed.
Margolin has written HEARTSTONE, PROOF POSITIVE and TIES THAT BIND.

Someone Get This Guy An Editor.......2005-06-19
This book is a nostalgic look at Riverview Amusement Park in Illinois. For those who have been there, the photos are a great journey down memory lane. The photos alone are worth the price of the book. The text, however, really needs some help (which accounts for penalizing the book 2 stars). There are way too many sentences beginning, "Do you remember..." The text is often unorganized jumping back and forth from one idea to another. Even the punctuation is abysmal in spots. For example, does anyone over the age of 12 use numerous question marks or exclaimation points at the end of sentences? The author tries to be clever in the book narrative as if one is going from ride to ride in the park. However, this become tedious very fast (and leads to all of the "Do you remember.." sentences). The book closes with the author reviewing other amusement parks (but showing only roller coasters--the author's favorite ride). It would have been nice to see photos of some of the other rides he mentions in this section's narrative. Other areas, that could have been looked at in more depth, were barely touched upon. For example, no newspaper clippings were included for the various injuries and deaths that occurred at Riverview. Very little information on the sideshow is present. Almost no information is presented on why the park actually closed--especially since billboards advertising the 1968 season were up and a license was purchased for the following year. Where is the editor--that is clearly needed? This is a book of great photos by a fan of Riverview. If you are expecting anything more than a photo album, you might be disappointed.
happy memories.......2001-04-10
Did not know this book existed until I was in Chicago about two years ago and drove by the former location of Riverview. I found myself with tears in my eyes because it was gone. My parents went there as children as did I. My cousin told me about the book and when we got to his house, ran to the computer to order from Amazon. Was totally enthralled by the publication and would recommend it to everyone who ever enjoyed the summertime at Riverview! Included were things I remembered as well as some I had forgotten. As the title indicated Riverview may be gone but will never be forgotten by those who were lucky enough to have experienced it.
You can experience Riverview, even if you've never been!.......1999-07-18
Three generations of my family went to Riverview, myself being the last. I went as a small child, but could only remember bits and pieces. This book truly fills in all of the gaps. It gives a very specific look at all the areas of Riverview Park and what it was to many Chicagoans. It takes you on the rides, offers pictures of tickets, season passes and other Riverview related items. It also shows the sad and heartbreaking demolishment of Riverview Park. In closing, the book summarizes a few of the great roller coasters in the U.S. as well as some of the "traditional" amusement parks that are still in operation. For those people that are really interested in what Riverview Park was, this book will make you feel as if you were a part of the Riverview Park Era, even if you were too young to remember . . .
Really enjoyed this book!.......1998-09-16
My Mom & Dad always talked about Riverview Park, but now with this book & its wonderful pictures, I can enjoy their memories too!
Brings back great memories!.......1998-06-04
Riverview was in the hearts & minds of Chicagoans, but now we can see pictures & relive the fun we had there as kids. The text is informative and the pictures are great. Every Chicagoan should have a copy for their libraries.

Gone But Not Forgotten.......2006-11-10
This is local history. The writer is not accomplished. The book is precious in that it preserves the stories of people and a way of life - Canadians in the prairie provinces, chiefly in the 1930s - which are past. Whole communities, each of them centered on grain elevators, are gone. There is almost no way these people and these places could be visited save through the efforts the writer made to produce this volume.
A wistful and warmly written contribution .......2005-01-03
Gone But Not Forgotten is the true story of the history and modern disappearance of a daily facet of prairie agriculture and daily life. The simple wooden grain elevator functioned not only as a practical tool, but as a symbol of prosperity and stability for over a century. Black-and-white photographs illustrate the story of the grain elevator's widespread use, innovations to make it more effective, and its decline as agribusiness changed the way food is grown . A wistful and warmly written contribution to agarian memory and heritage, accurately commemorating the role of a once indispensible tool for small farmers.

A Heart Touching Book.......1999-11-03
The book was wonderful from start to finish . ..The love was real and heart touching and made you feel a part of the plot.. . If you liked this book, or want to read one that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful. Stolen Moments is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. It is a spellbinder. What terrific writing. Barbara does have an exceptional gift!
AN EXCELLENT BOOK TO BE SURE........1999-09-20
I SELDOM PICK A BOOK UP THAT I CAN NOT PUT DOWN,BUT THIS ONE WAS LIKE THAT.. .I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT EACH CHARACTER WAS DOING NEXT!
A BOOK SIMILAR TO THIS THAT READERS WILL LOVE IS STOLEN MOMENTS BY BARBARA JEANNE FISHER. ..IT IS A BEAUTIUFL LOVE STORY THAT TOUCHES THE DEPTH OF ONE'S HEART, WITH EVERY POSSIBLE LOVE KNOWN TO HUMANS IN IT. ..IT IS ONE THAT YOU WILL WANT TO READ OVER AND OVER, AND EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF AGE CAN IDENTIFY WITH.
BOTH GREAT BOOKS.
Potential for more........1999-07-16
Spencer Cook, the main character in this book, seems typical of any human searching for truth and meaning in life. He makes subtle but significant changes that allow him to be more fulfilled and satisfied with his life. I personally loved seeing the change that came about from true life experiences. There is potential for more of everything out in the world. The author allows the reader to feel like change and satisfaction is out there for everyone. In this engaging and simple story there is so much to find out about oneself.
Fiction for Anyone.......1999-03-24
I don't get why people are referring to this as "mormon" literature. Because it mentions a bishop and a mission in passing? Maybe they know something I don't. The fact is that this is an inspiring, well written book for anyone at all, regardless of your faith.
An excellent story filled with love, life and philosophy........1999-03-19
This book was wonderful and refreshing to read. Unlike the majority of Mormon Fiction, this story is believable. The charaters are well developed and realistic. The story is written so that it entertains and teaches at the same time. I love the philosophical questions that the main charater Specher has. They are questions that any young person asks and attempts to find answers to. This book is perfect for those lazy Thursdays when you are in a thinking mood and need something to indentify with.

Book Description
Comprehensive, contemporary, and cross-cultural in perspective, this book provides a sociological approach to education-- from several theoretical approaches and their practical application, to current educational issues, to the structure and processes that make education systems work. Using an open systems model as a framework, it shows the formal organization of schools with structure, goals and processes; the informal organization with hidden curriculum, organization climate, etc.; the external environment that influences what goes on in the school, including financing, parent(s), community interest groups, etc.; processes such as stratification and change; higher education. Diagrams show interrelationships between topics. For educators and anyone interested in the sociology of education and schools.
Customer Reviews:
Mistitled.......2006-06-23
I bought this book hoping to gain some insight into the social nature of education in order to back up some research that I am currently conducting on the Japanese education system. However, I was a bit disappointed that this book covers social and political issues in regards to the American education system. If you're interested in that kind of information, then this might be of use to you, but if you're looking for a book on the sociology of education, then this is not it. It should be retitled "The Sociology of the American Education System". Another complaint is that the writing style is not very academic--what you might expect from a high school AP course or perhaps a community college course. I really recommend trying another textbook if you want in depth analysis of the sociology of education.

DONT BUY THIS BOOK!!.......2000-10-03
I bought this book hoping it would help me through some of the missions I was having trouble with, however, the only thing it helped me do was waste my money! There really isn't anything in this book that will help anyone above what the mission briefings already tell you, so save your money. I usually like Prima strategy guides, What Happend?
Completely Unhelpful Guide.......2000-05-17
This book is just a hard copy of the mission briefings in the game. I couldn't believe something so lame would actually be published.
Disappointing book.......2000-04-22
I thought this would help guide you through some of the missions, however, it's just an exact copy of the mission briefing screens! There's nothing added, so just read your mission briefings and save your money.
USAF - Official Strategy Guide.......1999-12-28
This book sounds like it will provide you with useful information for gameplay. I found it to be a repeat of the user manual with very little insight into how to play better. It's a book in need of a second edition.
Book Description
Apply the principles of Scrum, one of the most popular agile programming methods, to software project management#151;and focus your team on delivering real business value. Author Ken Schwaber, a leader in the agile process movement and a co-creator of Scrum, brings his vast expertise to helping you guide the product and software development process more effectively and efficiently. Help eliminate the ambiguity into which so many software projects are borne, where vision and planning documents are essentially thrown over the wall to developers. This high-level reference describes how to use Scrum to manage complex technology projects in detail, combining expert insights with examples and case studies based on Scrum. Emphasizing practice over theory, this book explores every aspect of using Scrum, focusing on driving projects for maximum return on investment.
Customer Reviews:
Simple introduction to Scurm........2007-08-01
This book provides a simple introduction to Scrum. Author briefly explains basic Scrum concepts based on real life case studies. However this book is not sufficient to start practicing Scrum in real projects. You will need at least a Scrum Master training course in order to fully understand Scrum techniques.
Coming from PMI PMP background I have noticed that the author does not understand the foundations of "traditional project management". For example on page 88 he draws a Network Diagram and refers to it as to Gantt chart... He also very often mentions PERT charts as one of his painful memories from waterfall projects.
Being such an expert in software project management Ken should know that there is no PERT chart, just the PERT technique (for estimating the duration of a task). PERT chart is a name of Network Diagram, wrongly introduced by Microsoft Project. It really strikes me how many people confuse MS Project with project management.
All in all, this book is worth reading if you need a brief introduction to Scrum.
SCRUM time!.......2007-07-03
This book did an amazing job of entertaining me and pumping me up to know more about scrum. Unfortunately, i haven't been able to practice any of this stuff at work becauase i'm not the project manager. I can't wait to learn more about scrum so i bought ken's other book "Agile software development using scrum" and am reading it now. It's much of the same material just more in depth and i'm loving it as well.
5 stars for the book! i'll let you all know how the methodology is after i find out!
From Product backlog to sprint review, you see how scrum is implemented and how each Chicken plays their role to it's fullest in this book!
Learn by example.......2007-06-25
This is a great book on Scrum. In a light, enjoyable series of anecdotes about real-world projects, it succeeds in communicating the deeper principles rather than just the surface-level practices.
Prompt and reliable service.......2007-06-07
I am completely satisfied with the shipment and quality of the book. I would absolutely go back to this seller, if he has what I need.
Good agile book.......2007-05-28
This book is one of good agile development book.
It provides the idea to implement agile process in our team.
