    Edge is a fine writer, and what he's written is entertaining, enjoyable and informative. If you're interested at all in hamburgers (and if you're reading this, you obviously are), then you'll definitely want to read it. But this is a small, short book, easily read in one sitting, and in my opinion overpriced. There aren't even any photographs to add to the fun. So I'd suggest you wait for a price reduction, or find a used copy, because there's not enough content here to justify its $13 Amazon price, much less its $20 list price. At $8 or less, you'll be happy to have it in your library...and if that were the price, I'd give it 4 stars. (Photos would have given it 5.)

    I just love cheeseburgers. I got this book for Christmas and read it in 5 days. Just fun stuff- hamburger lore. If you're not a big burger fan go watch Oprah, but if you are this is a fun book!

    John T. Edge's new book, "Hamburgers and Fries" is an earnest and breezy look at America's signature food. Who would know how diverse a nation we are when it comes to the concoction of the simple burger. Edge tells us all about it.

    After a brief history of the hamburger, the author sets off in search of some of the tastiest and unusual burgers that can be found. From places as diverse as Mississippi and Connecticut, Edge discovers the local fare and is good enough to include the recipes in his book. (I'm from Connecticut and have never heard of a steamed cheeseburger.....I'll have to try one!)

    Edge describes areas of the United States as having burger "microclimates". In San Antonio, for instance, it is not unheard of to have a burger that melds refried beans, Cheez Wiz and Fritos corn chips...the chips being found just under the bun. I suppose one hasn't lived until he or she has tried the Hawaiian "loco moco", though when in Hilo I think I might opt for the "local burger". But peanut butter on a hamburger?? In Cleveland and Missouri it happens. Taste is more individual than I thought.

    I was disappointed that, despite its title, "Hamburgers and Fries" leaves the fries part mostly untouched. A scant fifteen pages is given over to the usual hamburger accompaniment. The book's lack of direction leaves a little to be desired as well. Still, Edge is one happy camper when it comes to burgers and I could see him hosting one of those half-hour food shows on tv someday.

          Anyone who does not stay on the main line as white against the Sicilian deserves to be punished, and this is the book that will show you how to do just that. Black is assured an advantage against c3, Nc3, and even f4 systems, but you have to know how to do it. Its not the greatest opening book I've read, but its the best for anti-sicilian systems. Everything you need is right here, but since its out of print, you better get it while you still can. If a publisher is reading this, how about coming out with a second edition?

          This book is a must for anyone who wishes to use the Sicilian as a weapon against e4. I play the Najdorf and Dragon variations of the Sicilian as black and I get annoyed when my opponent cops out of an open Sicilian with Anti-Sicilian moves such as 2.c3 or 2.Nc3. This book by Joe Gallagher is the answer to such weak cop outs! The book is written by a leading expert on the Sicilian and certainly makes the player with the white pieces suffer. Buy this book and white will never have a chance!

          Although I found this text interesting, and mostly informative, the practice of editing seems to have slipped through the cracks. And for this purpose, I offer my eye for future editions! The order of content, as well as combining similar themes, could have been a bit more well thought out.

          This book is a must have for anyone interested in PR. It is up to date and illustrates all the relevant forces working in PR. It also outlines application and startegy for an effective PR campaign. Along with this book, I would also recommend Michael Levine's Guerill PR Wired, which is also a must have for anyone remotely interested in PR.

          5 out of 5 stars Eighth Edition of a Classic.......2007-01-11

          From the very first page this book gives a good introduction into the daily life of a professional account executive a public relations firm. This is designed to ltet the student know how his workday is likely to be spent. Perhaps in eight editions they've learned how to approach students.

          That brings up the question of what's new in the eighth edition. One important step is the new chapter on Conflict Management. This has become very critical in today's world as investigative reporters are constantly seeking conflicts to spread to the public. There's a new 'casebook' at the end of every chapter that presents a situation in depth that is left as a discussion subject for the student or the class. Finally the book is completely revised to use up to date in areas as diverse as salary ranges or notable public relations campaigns such as those mounted by John Kerry and George Bush.

          This is the student edition of the book which contains a 64 page practice test at the end of the book.

                  As a marketing consultant and someone who has personally had the privilege to meet and work with Dr. James Hutton, I give my glowing endorsement for a well written and useful marketing manuscript. Dr. Jim Hutton is a professor of Marketing Communications and this book is geared for the classroom. However, business owners and professionals in all industries would do themselves justice by buying and reading this book.
