Decent eulogy........2005-06-17
Chas Balun, Lucio Fulci: Beyond the Gates (Fantasma, 1996)
Lucio Fulci is, depending on to whom you talk, either a derivative hack or one of the finest directors of the latter half of the twentieth century. (To be fair, the same can be said of David Lean.) I'm a longtime fan, over a quarter of a century now, and I've always thought of Fulci kind of in the middle; cheesy, but fun. I'm guessing that the folks who put this book together would consider me somewhat lukewarm, and worthy of spitting. These are the extreme militant Orthodox branch of the Cult of Fulci, headed up by Chas Balun, one of the guys who was on the bleeding edge of the horror-film fanzine way back when.
This book is, essentially, an extended eulogy. Written not long after Fulci's 1996 death, it contains as prefaces and afterwards testimonies from a number of other "name" fans (at least, to those in the world of underground horror) framing Balun's extended essay. The whole thing is, as is to be expected from a book on the master of low-budget horror, made on a shoestring budget, but the pictures are still excellent (and the quality's at least passable), the emotion is communicated well, and the tribute is about as fitting as one could write. As with all Irish-style wakes, it gets a little sappy now and again (did Balun really have a straight face when writing that Fulci had "gone on to the Beyond"?), but if you're a Fulci fan, readnig this is kind of like reminiscing with some of your and the man's mutual friends. ***
Don't bother with this Pamphlet-length Bio.......2002-03-05
What a disapointment! I longed to get a good bio on good ole' "splinter in the eye" Fulci and got a hurriedly assembled, fan-boy pamphlet. Not only was the slender size a downer, so was the text. No insight or even critical assessment of Fulci the artist and his impact on European Horror films. Pass this one up folks! Read Spagetthi Nightmares instead, which profiles many Italian horror actors, writers and stars--and has real meat to it!
A bit disapointing..........2000-06-19
I absolutely LOVE Lucio Fulci, so I had to get this book. I had also heard tons about Charles Balun but had never read any of his material up to the point where I bought this book. This book is a bit of a disapointment.
It seems to have been written in a hurry and is not much more than a detailed Fucli filmography which is, for the most part, a regurgitance of all the old Fucli information.
This book is a descent source of information, but how much information can a 30-minute book give you? Consider it, but don't get your hopes up.
A CLASSIC!.......2000-05-08
If you are a big Italian cinema freak or just love Lucio Fulci, like I am, than this book is for you. This book by horror guru Chas Balun. It has a special introduction by the late maestro's daughter Antonella Fulci! It shows dozens of rare stills, lobby cards, publicity material, reviews, and cool essays for all the movies Lucio did. This great book also has a cool cover from THE BEYOND his best movie. Don't wait, get this book, you won't be sorry.

Tremendous score.......2007-09-06
This is GREAT! So happy this was finally released. My husband and I are both musicians. Can't tell you how marvelous it is to watch this score while listening to the Beatles' performances.
Complete Beatles Song Library.......2007-09-01
If you love the Beatles and love music - this is a must have. It is beautiful looking in hard cover and slides into a nice protective sleeve. The print is small and so tough to read. A way around this would be to provide a CD or download capabiltiy with a password so a purchaser could print out a particular song. I would have rated this a 5 with this included. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to own this -- plus I think its a pretty good value, but I would pay $10 more to be able to download the music or have a companion CD/DVD.
Amazing. Binding easy to fix........2007-08-23
As previous reviewers have said, the transcriptions aren't perfect, but the errors are minor enough that anyone with enough of an ear to notice them can fix them. For the amount that this collection is an absolutely awe-inspiring piece of work, I don't think that a few minor errors should count against it.
Many reviewers have had issues with the binding being too thick and the book too big and cumbersome to balance on a music stand. I fixed this problem by simply taking the book to a copy shop and having them rebind it for me into three volumes. It only cost me ten dollars and it has made my life infinitely easier.
Small type no problem.......2007-07-30
An excellent resource for musicians. The small type mentioned in numerous reviews is not that small and anyone with access to a copier can enlarge the image of any song you happen to be working on. I was impressed that even "Revolution #9" was scored. A very good companion volume to "The Compleat Beatles" that I purchased back in 1982.
Beginners to Cover Bands.......2007-07-18
I've been trying to teach myself guitar for over two years now. Being in my forties, I don't have the time (or talent)to sit with a CD/MP3 player and try to figure a song out. I've purchased other song books, chordbooks, easy play books, etc... Each one falls short in providing not only accurate information, but enough information for a relative beginner to play. This book provides, in my opinion, all the necessary information for a beginner, expert, or cover band to play. Notation, tab, chords, chord fingering and strumming patterns. To date, this is the only book I would recommend.

And Your Bird Can Sing, So Play Some Beatles!.......2005-08-02
Be sure to get the entire two-volume set. You not only get songs the Beatles wrote, but also their versions of covers they did such as "Kansas City." The sheet music is clear and quite easy to follow, which makes learning the songs easier. Beginners may have some trouble with this, but certainly intermediate players will be able to take off.
The harmonic treatment of the songs is stellar. For those who are "multi-lingual" musically, chords, notes and tabulature is provided. That way everybody who can read at least one form of music can really put this book to good use. I am also delighted that the lyrics are included. That way, people who either don't know all the words or who want to learn them can sing along.
Another excellent feature is that the instrumental sections of the songs are included. This book is a must have. Be sure to check out the Beatles' Complete Scores and the finger pickin' guitar book of Beatle songs as well. However, of the choices presented, this book is your first choice.
Guitar players, make this book your best friend when you want to play and/or learn to play Beatle songs the Beatle way. Not only will you derive a lot of satisfaction, but others will enjoy your playing as well. Don't be surprised if you get lots of requests to play some Beatles!
Become a Beatlemaniac.......2002-05-08
Virtually every Beatles song ever recorded appears in this two-volume set. It includes even some of the Beatles cover songs such as "Kansas City" and "A Taste of Honey".
What you get are the standard sheet music versions of these songs, nicely printed and easy to read. The book is at an intermediate level. Typical Hal Leonard scores: a base line in the spirit of the recording, chords voiced in the center and melody on top. Not always very pianistic, but the songs are transcribed pretty well harmonically. Also tab is included and of course lyrics. Some of the songs include the Beatles solo, fills or intros. For instance the instrumetal part of Polythene Pam, Savoy Truffle or Yer Blues. All the songs I've played so far except "Penny Lane" are in the key they were recorded in. It seems "Penny Lane" is in B, the music is in C.
If you want to know every note the Beatles played, get the "The Beatles Complete Scores" also sold by Amazon.com. However, to me its hard to read and not really playable. So if you just want to just get in and play, this is preferable.
It's quite a luxury to have not just thier hits but all their music together. After playing something like "Let it Be" you can just turn a few pages and delve into something you'd never expect to play like "Piggies", "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" or virtually play through all of "Abbey Road". While the Beatles aren't Gods to me, it really hits you how talented these guys were when you've got it all in front of you like this.
Beatlemania Strikes Again!.......2000-03-11
A great collection of all of the Beatles songs from A-I. A definite must for Beatles fans who would like to learn to play their songs. This book rocks--And so can you!
I Think It Must Be Great, BUT ......!.......1999-05-19
I visited the auction site in WED\19\5\1999. Unfortunately, I didn't buy anything because of the outrageous prices. I believe and garanty that if the prices were lower, this site would be one of the most visited sites on the web. Personnaly I will check constantly to see the prices have been arranged properly.
This book helped my guitar playing immensly..........1999-01-30
Before I read this book I only could play heavy metal power chords... but now I know half the beatles songs (which for me is rather exciting)... It was an extremly helpful book....

Good book to have........2006-08-20
This is a small, CD-sized book, but it's very handy to have around for quick referencing. It's full of up-to-date info about all commercially released U.K. and U.S. records and CDs, including details about the recording of songs. Also included are the Hamburg, Decca, and Star-Club recordings. It's interesting to just thumb through this book.
Very disappointed........2006-03-12
I do not like the format! The book is about the size of a CD and for a reference book this makes the print way too small. There are lots of typos. Release dates pending for albums that have been out for years. For a book that they've had so much time to work on it looks as if it was rushed to print. Maybe they should have looked at the last edition. The only thing good I can say is that I like the color pictures and the new additions, ie. Anthologies and Capitol CD's.

FUN WITH THE FAB 4.......2002-10-19
This is just a fun book that is tailored to folks becoming familiar with the Beatles, their music and their long reaching influences on the world at large.
Although it does not move in a chronological sequence, it does a nice job of providing a foundation on which to build Beatle knowledge. As a Beatles' expert, there was little if any new material in this work for me, but I did enjoy it from a "teaching" perspective.
This is not meant to be a scholarly or comprehensive work about the Beatles nor is it a "Dick & Jane" format of merely simplifying their works to the basic "Hear/See the Beatles Play. ...." To describe it from either extreme is to do it a grave injustice; to view it is a harmless teaching tool that also has humorous passages is indeed, I believe the more accurate approach.
I enjoyed it. This book is a good resource tool for the person who is "newly" coming into the Beatles.
GREAT FOR NEWBIES, BUT LIMITED BY FORMAT.......2001-10-11
As a hippie kid, I grew up in a house where the Beatles were at the top of the musical heirarchy. I knew a lot about them as a result of being into them for so long, but this book fills in the little gaps of knowledge I'd always had. Buskin knows the Beatles history inside and out. His coverage of their career is complete, even delving into the social and historical forces that shaped the Fab Four and set the stage for their ongoing success and eventual demise. I've read few rock history books that go so far to paint such a complete picture of the people and events that shaped a rock and roll band.
So why the four out of five stars? Call me picky, but I can't stand when historical authors fail to move in a chronological sequence. There's just no reason why he couldn't have taken it one year at a time with this book.
But while I dislike the structure of the book (which may not have been the author's fault, it is a complete idiot's guide after all), you still come away knowing a LOT more about the Fab Four by the time you're done. So, while it's not the best format to tackle the subject, it certainly succeeds in making a novice knowledgable, which is what these books are all about.
Good, but with some mistakes..........1999-10-09
I was just perusing this title last night at Tower Records. I've been doing some research on the Beatles' concerts in the Philippines and I noticed that this book kept referring to the capital city as "Manilla" instead of the correct spelling "Manila". I didn't notice any places in the book where they said "Londdon", "Pariss", "New Yorrk" or "Tokyyo"... maybe the editors of the book just didn't care.
Great For Beatles Begginers.......1999-09-06
This is a great book for beatles begginers. It takes you through their births and parents. To their school lifes. To their stints in Hamburg until they invade the U.S.A.Then it tells there slow decline of friendship between each other. Then they break up and it takes you to the anthology (1996).Great book, very up to date.
Good book for Beatles beginners.......1999-04-16
It is a good book for new Beatles fans. A good start for one to know about the Beatles' life and music. I had more than 20 books on The Beatles before I read this book, and it still gave me some insight which I didn't know before.
I really like the ending bit where the author wrote about the reunion, the Anthology albums and the the two new singles. However it was a little short and I wish that it was much much longer.
It's a must buy for beginners and for hard-core Beatles who like to have more books on their Beatles collection.

Another In This Great Series.......1999-11-02
This is one of the best series of books on popular musicians and this particular book packs in a lot of information into a small size. A lot of this background, however, can be found in the respective CD booklets. Good overview but a bit repetitive. Uses similar pictures to Vol 1.
Book Description
The result of twenty years' experience and study -- an amusing, easily read book for the vast majority of "in-between" players. Emphasizing practice over theory, the book is sure to improve anyone's game.
Customer Reviews:
Worth its weight in goal for a beginner or advanced beginner.......2007-01-18
I own approximately 20 chess books and have been playing since I'm about 7 years old. I'm not a championship player, but I'm above average partly due to the principles I learned from this book over 30 years ago. I have rated it a 5, however, if I could I would have rated it a 6!
What is so wonderful about this book is its readability. It teaches principles of play that can be applied in many situations and it also does it with humor. How many chess books have you seen that actually use humor? I think the dedication that Fred Reinfeld wrote for his wife says it all "FOR MY WIFE... who asked me for a chess book she could read."
The book begins with the most important aspect of the game i.e. checkmating and how to avoid it. It also covers when to resign and the relative values of the pieces. It looks at the stengths of each piece and talk about how to get the most out of your pieces including the pawns.
The book stays on course from here and looks at the three strongest moves keeping the focus on check and checkmate in chapter 4 which is what the game is about. Specifically, it discusses forking check, discovered check and double check. These are important tactics that should be covered first from both an offensive and defensive point of view. In a similar fashion it dedicated a chapter each on the next two strongest moves capturing threats and pawn promotion. Each of these chapters is very clear and well explained with lots of diagrams.
In the next section, the book goes on to discuss PRINCIPLES of opening play and gives five general rules for an opening. In the next section, it discusses the middle game and the two principles of giving your pieces mobility and making them cooperate.
The last three chapters of the book cover the endgame, pinning and how to use sacrifices to win. The appendix includes a chess refresher witht the basic rules of chess. In short, this 190 page book gives new players a game plan, tactics, easy to follow principles and a good overall felt sense of what the game is about. If you buy this book, it will truly teach you "How to be a Winner at Chess."
If you are an intermediate player, I still think this book is worth reading to reinforce principles and to help you to teach young people how to play. If you are advanced intermediate or better, you may want to purchase something else. However, this is a classic book and you can get a used copy for under $1.00 many times. If it's not useful to you, you can give it a way or use it to start a fire. Either way, you'll get your money's worth.
Bought it 20 years ago..........2000-12-22
I bought this book over 20 years ago when I was 13 or so. Reinfeld's techniques improved my game immensely, and whenever I get serious and dust off the chess board, this is the book to which I turn. The author dedicated the book to his wife, who wanted "a chess book she could read". It is indeed easy to read, yet what you learn is powerful chess stuff. Now my brother-in-law is asking for a chess book, and I am buying him this one for Christmas. Maybe I shouldn't get it for him after all, if I end up playing him!
Great lessons for new comers.......2000-01-06
I purchased this book in hopes of introducing my family to the great game of chess. (A teacher I am not.) This book does a wonderful job of explaining the basic strategies involved in playing a winning game. From checks, mate, attacking threats, forks, opening moves, mid-game and end-game play, Reinfeld explains the game in language that anyone can comprehend.
In my particular instance, use of this book has allowed me to create additional interest in chess with former non-players in my family. (An interest I found nearly impossible to cultivate myself.)
So, if you are a beginner, or a player who struggles in passing along knowledge effectively, this is a book for you.
Great way to start chess.......1998-06-11
I think this is one of the best chess books for beginners. It's got complete rules and basic principles to follow in all parts of the game,as well as elementary tactics. The funny illustrations are an added bonus.

Customer Reviews:
Actually works.......2006-12-27
Great book. This is not filler material. You feel like Dan is by your side leading you to greater focus, self belief and passion.
Meets the Expectations in the Title.......2006-05-29
You have to admit that it takes a very confident person to write a book called "the ultimate guide to mental toughness."
I think the book is aptly titled. This is one of the many books that I have no qualms about saying, "It was so good, it changed my life".
That's not something I would every say lightly. This book is very, very good.
We've all seen them: the people who seem to be ready and confident for any situation. Setbacks don't seem to hurt them the way they hurt the rest of us. And when the time calls for somebody who will walk in and confidently win the game, they're always at the forefront.
I'm not naturally an optimistic person. I doubt it was anything to do with my circumstances. I've had my share of setbacks like everyone has. BUT, I know of a lot of folks who have had worse situations and yet they manage to be happier and more confident than me.
What do they know that I don't know? Maybe nothing. Maybe it's just their natural wiring. Maybe it's just natural for them to feel that way. But for one reason or another, they seem to have more mental toughness than most folks. They certainly have more than I.
But I also know that if you can't feel it, if you can fake it long enough, you can usually make it real.
That's what this book teaches you to do: to teach yourself to be confident and mentally tough.
I wonder if Teitelbaum is trained in hypnosis, since the book is basically a self-hypnosis book. It will actually let you get inside your head and re-program things to a better you.
It isn't often I offer this type of praise, but in this case, it is worth it. This book is especially going to be valuable for managers and salespeople, as well as others who feel that a tougher, more confident mental outlook would help in their lives.
Well worth the money. I only wish there were more books like this on the market.
Irritating, and Inflated Reviews.......2006-05-01
Like someone else, I could not read a book that underlines words _so_ _frequently_ just to make sure a reader _gets the point_. That is usually a sign that the _author_ doesn't have confidence that the point _is_ getting communicated well.
In _addition_, the reviews in the book talk about someone _raising his income (!)_ by $40,000 to $50,000 / year. C'mon give me a _break_, that's like an _info_-mercial.
I think that I am going to _save my money_ and not support such hype.
It Works..........2006-03-24
If you want a better understanding of how your own brain works and how you can use that understanding to harness your human spirit, then this book is for you. It is laid out in simple terms, and the tools and workbook offer powerful results. This book is about "You" and how you can take advantage of your own belief system to motivate you subconsciously throughout the day. It is so easy to be distracted by the phone, fellow employees, customers, email, text messaging, instant messaging, lunch, flat tire ect... throughout the day. Using Mr. Teitelbaums tequniques you can keep your self on track, keep your mind focused, and acheive your goals. I'm not a millionaire, but I do support my family and live in a nice house. I am able to put my kids in a private school. All of this becuase I read this book and was able to stay focused on my goals. I have given this book to many people as a gift and recieved many thanks and praise.
Goal-oriented self-help.......2005-05-27
For those who have trouble taking consistent, positive action in the direction of their goals, Teitelbaum gives step-by-step instructions in his self-published book on how to keep dreams in mind so that the reader is motivated every day.
