    Heidi Fleiss was not so unusual as a celebrity. If anything she represented a lot of sleazy yet common things in the world, but her defiance is what made a name for herself.

    Heidi was a privilaged Hollywood kid, one of several children by her wealthy doctor father in southern California. Her antics as a teenager were bad, to say the least. She had many brushes with the law over typical teenage mischeif (drunk driving, for example), until she dropped out of high school all together. She seemed to crave a more precarious lifestyle based around gambling at the local track. From there, she went into the scene of fast kids / adults in Hollywood, eventually finding her way into a circle of wealth and big time operators. She had a few relationships here and there with older men who introduced her to a more heady lifestyle, until she meets another Hollywood Madame who teaches her the tricks of the trade (no pun intended). Soon, Heidi found herself at the top of her game, as the most sought after Hollywood Madame in history.

    Now, I am a Midwesterner. We are typically stiff and stoggy types, and I am not a prude, but this is just plain bad. People who sell drugs or a sex service like Heidi did are looking to make a fast buck, live large, and get swelled egos about them. They use people and spit them out. What got Heidi into the most trouble was her big, fat mouth. She had attitude (and continues) to have attitude. She was like "How dare you come in here!", "All of you police are corrupt!". I wanted to smack her in the face and say "HeLLLOOO! What you are doing is ILLEGAL, lady! Yes, you have a wonderful life, but you got your wonderful life illegally! And the police have attitude?! Just because you're a celebrity you should be treated better than others?!?! WTF??!!!

    Heidi goes on to tell of how her arrest, conviction and prison experiences have affected her family, friends, and of course, herself. Is she a better person now? I have chatted with those (white collar and otherwise) who have been to prison and are not career criminals. They tell me that jail is certainly a detourant. You have to have eyes in the back of your head at all times. One perhaps said it best "If you don't believe me, go there yourself." And Heidi lives on the strait and narrow now, because she was scared strait and narrow. Do I think she fought some kind of system and won? Do I think she was made an example of something? No, I don't. There are plenty of big and small time operators out there who are doing what she does, but they do it better because they will never be caught. I look at stories like this and turn my nose up at them "Another one of these Hollywood brats in the news! Enough already!". Heidi was a part of celebrity culture and she gave the people what they wanted. Good for her, I guess. Makes you pride on your own upstanding values. So what if I'm a stuffy MidWesterner.

    This is not so much a book as a scrap book. It is just a collection of news clippings and photographs that are arranged in chronological order without any detailed notes to accompany them. I am not sure if the editor was on crack when he/she/it approved it or if he/she/it just got their brains microwaved.

    Anyone who does not find this book to be more than just a book, must have a problem with sex or Heidi Fleiss. Do not cast a stone, we all came from a womb. Sex is natural and normal. Heidi really paid a high price and she wasn't having sex. This book is not sugar coated. A girl who got on a path, conquered, and rode it out alone. I love you Heidi.

    This book has been over looked and not appreciated for the format, layout & design. I'm an avid reader and had not heard much about PANDERING. Heidi Fleiss, like her or hate her, does not have to do with this book. This book is like an old song that reminds you of the past, a television show that evokes thoughts of time period. I'm surprised there has not been more attention & demand for this book.

    One of the most conterversial women of the century. Easy to love and easy to hate. One thing for sure is the madam gets people worked up. Besides the fact that I pick up on different things everytime I look through this book. All the articles and goverment documents and a wild dimension.

    Ironically, tho Mr. Simon preaches against pandering well, his argument backfires by promoting what I call neutralism or tolerantism or what most people call tolerance (for all religions and philosophies). The problem with promoting tolerance of all people who promote any and every religion and philosophy is that not all religions and philosophies lead to true good and in the end, lead to ruin. Examples: Islam and Catholocism have demonstrated themselves to be religions of murder when left unrestrained, and atheism and agnostocism have demonstrated themselves to be just as chaotic when left unrestrained. The philosophy of skepticism has shown itself to be a way that provokes contentious and hateful arguments and guess what that leads to if both parties lack decent self-control... yeah, injury or murder. Or consider serial killers and what they believed, should any corrupt views they spread be tolerated, should they be allowed to go about promoting child abuse or harming others for fun?

    I am not advocating going about killing anyone who disagrees with you, but my point is that to marry, hire, or live next to a person BECAUSE OF (think affirmative action or being around those of like mind) or REGARDLESS of their religion or philosophy is clearly not wise. Or, would anyone like to argue that you should tolerate living next to or in the same house with a child-abusing and child-murdering person with your children for the sake of being tolerant?

    I didn't think so.

    There was some great truths in his book, such as that some (but I say many) churches care more about the church-building then being more obedient to Christ, and that many Christians severely neglect the poor.

    3 out of 5 stars misses chance for solid case.......2004-01-03

    The book was an interesting commentary on contemporary American issues but left much to be desired. Instead of building a rock-solid case for the urgent need for responsible leadership, Mr. Simon simply gives his opinions in a somewhat disjointed four chapters.
    In the first chapter "Pandering in Politics," the examples he gives of politicians pandering all happen to be domestic priorities of the Republican Party. In my opinion, he missed an opportunity to talk about the need for selfless leadership and just wrote another partisan rant on the shortcomings of the opposite party. It cheapens the rest of his book.
    My other main criticism was that the chapters didn't flow or connect very well. The book could have made a much stronger case that the public is being pandered to in many different aspects of our life, but instead deviates more from his original premise in each successive chapter. It almost gave me the impression that he rushed to get the book finished.
    The book wasn't a waste, however, you could get more for your buck (and time) from many other sources.

Maybe the book could better be titled "Along the Road to Perdition I encountered some interesting situations". But, then that just cleans up the title and perhaps misleads the readers.

                    What can I say? Everything that was wrong with Might & Magic VII's Strategy Guide has been remedied in this one.

                    1. Quest Walkthroughs have been separated into Main, Promotion, and Secondary (according to region) sections so you can get to the walkthrough you want with a minimum of page flipping, in contrast to that annoying jumble of quests in each region provided in the previous strategy guide.

                    2. A serious flaw of the previous strategy guide was the lack of a Skill table. This guide not only provides a Skill table, which is nicely divided into Armor&Weapons, Magic, and Miscellaneous Skills, it even mentions them again in the Region Location tables, resulting in (u guessed it) a minimum of page flipping.

                    3. The Walkthroughs in the previous guide were written in long winded paragraphs that mentioned too much useless information. When I'm playing a game and get stuck in a quest, I don't want to spend time reading a bunch of paragraphs, I want to find out the exact sequence of steps required to finish the quest, as in: (A) go talk to this guy who is in such and such a place to receive the quest. (B) go do THIS over THERE to THOSE people (C) go back to that guy and collect your reward. Quick and painless just like this guide.

                    4. In general the guide hasn't forgotten anything. It provides ALL the stats on EVERYTHING: Spells, Items, Ores, Maps, Travel Schedules, Monsters, etc. The Maps are clearer, and the tips provided are very useful and great time savers.

                    Could this guide have been better? Maybe, anything is possible. Still, I couldn't find a single thing to complian about, and thats something.

                    With all due respects to the many many talented authors out there--and there are many of them--THIS book, in my opinion, is the finest ever in real estate and it is indeed the most bang for one's "buck", bar none and that includes MY books ("Professional Real Estate Problem Solving Using the HP-12C" and my counterpart companion book for the HP-17BII). Yes, my computations books are good, I believe and am told, but the de Heer book is frankly incredible in an overall sense when you figure the many areas of real estate finance and techniques and I suppose "tactics" that this monster of a book addresses. I say "monster" because this is and was a huge undertaking for any author. Huge undertaking; exceptional value.
                    Admittedly, the copy of Bob's book that I have is maybe 15 or so years old and I am not even sure if de Heer sent it to me or someone in his company. But, I have to say that as an author, whether you are an atty-math type like me or not, this book is really quite incredible and it is an unmatched value I feel.
                    Do I know Bob de Heer? No I do not! Have I ever spoken with this fellow? Nope! Does he promote my "stuff"? Not that I am aware! Simply put I have no special interest in promoting this book. However, I do love the field of real estate--especially so the computational end of it which is why I wrote a few books in that area!--and feel that I should voice my opinion on the de Heer book.

                    If you could have only one book on real estate transactions, this would have to be it. This is a standard in the industry.                     Although I had to wait several months to receive this book, it was well-worth it. It is an all-encompassing guide to getting things right the first time, especially for those salespeople who do not have a strong broker they can turn to in times of need. I will be purchasing one for every new agent in my office as a supplement to the training I provide. One thing that is important to note: one must keep an eye on Dearborn's website for critical updates to the book. Realtors, Appraisers, Bankers: get yours today!!
