5 out of 5 stars A great book about movie scenes you normally won't see........1999-06-23

This book is magnificent! It tells of the history of movies that were censored because the were too violent or to sexy. The book covers movies from the beginning of the cinema up to the 1970's. The book's pages are also covered in screen shots of the cut scenes from the movies. Alot of them contain nudity, so don't let the kids get ahold of it. If you are a movie buff like me, then you need this book! It definitely the best book I have ever bought!

This book opens the doors on what's been left on the cutting room floor -- and was deleted from your favorite movies -- ranging from Dr. Strangelove to ClockWork Orange and more...Censored by Hollywood modesty codes...sabotaged, politics and titillation....cut on violence and in retreat...Censorship began with the creatio of the cinema in 1890-'s according to this author...a flash of thigh and hidden hair in the Can Can...the dancing of the whirling veils of Salome to the first keyhole shot for peeping toms back in 1913-- a harem in Man Woman and Marriage...coy undraping of nymths....wow was the old Hollywood wild...it's a great book...from black and white photos to classics like Emmannualle which is known for its erotica to Flash Gordon and it's rip off FLESH GORDON....unusual book should be on any Hollywood fan's bookshelf....

3 out of 5 stars More than a little disappointed..........2005-11-04

I've been a devoted US Weekly reader since 2001, and I was eagerly anticipating the release of this book because it hoped it would contain photos that had never-before-been-seen by me. I will admit to being disappointed, as the photos in this book are not nearly the "greatest celebrity photos" taken over the history of US Weekly as I understood it to be, but perhaps more like the "greatest celebrity photos" taken over the past two years. Throughout the entire book, there were perhaps five photos that I could not recall seeing in the past two years. A big disappointment, because I truly believed that this book would be a treasure trove of photos from times that I do not recall, like the Brad and Jen hookup and wedding, but it wasn't. After spending no more than 30 minutes flipping through this book and reading the captions, I retired the book to my book shelf, where it will undoubtedly sit for years while the photos contained gather dust in my mind. I do also own the US Weekly Guide to Dressing Like the Stars, and this book contains many more original--and not so recent--photos.

            Book Description

The lesson plans in Interdisciplinary Learning Through Dance: 101 MOVEntures are broad (covering six disciplines) and deep (101 plans in all). Each lesson is based on national standards and has been field tested with students in grades K-5 with positive results. In fact, both teachers and students enjoy the plans and the learning gained through Interdisciplinary Learning Through Dance: 101 MOVEntures.

Teachers value the materials: a book, a music CD to be used with selected lessons, and a 60-minute DVD that demonstrates teaching methodologies and shows selected lesson plans in action. All are designed to be used in lessons that focus on science, social studies, language arts, math, physical education, and creative arts.

Students respond with enthusiasm to the active learning of subjects through playful movement. The book's content inspires engaging and active learning with these features: • Basic language of dance • How-tos of lesson planning • Classroom-management techniques • Thinking tools for promoting conceptual understanding • Assessment choices and forms

Each lesson plan addresses the national standards for dance and the core curriculum subject areas, as well as the grade level, length, student objectives, and materials needed. In addition, each plan contains these special features: • Introduction • Moving adventure • Assessment • Extensions

The book explores the benefits of crossing curricular boundaries with dance and delves into the vocabulary of dance and the pedagogy for creating moving adventures, or MOVEntures. It lays out the 101 lesson plans in six disciplines, providing assessment tools, lesson schematics, and additional resources- including the national standards and thinking tools.

Complete. Cross-disciplinary. Broad and deep. Instructive. And fun. Teachers can't go wrong with Interdisciplinary Learning Through Dance: 101 MOVEntures, because the students learn the subjects and come back wanting to learn more.

5 out of 5 stars Innovative methods for learning with bodies, minds and peers.......1999-02-23

Leap Into Learning is subtitled, Teaching CurriculumThrough Creative Dramatics and Dance and that's exactly what it will prepare you beautifully for. The book itself is a creative cornucopia of primary activities, games, exercises, and innovative methods of bringing K-7 young people into high gear for learning with their bodies minds and peers. Teachers who apply the procedures detailed in Leap Into Learning will find a stimulated fast-learning group pf students reflecting enthusiasm and excitement that results from this excellent work. A service of the book is the host of curriculum class plans for attaining the creative participation of students as a method of mastering story and performance techniques, while mastering such diverse subject matters as Social Studies, Science, and Math. You will never have a dull class if you utilize Leap Into Learning. I only wish I'd had Bissinger and Renfro for my K-7 teachers. Believe me you will gain much, as will your students, when you apply these materials in your classwork. It is a handsome 8 1/2 x 11" volume with innspiring classwork photos by Anne Jackson, and clever and very clear drawings by Cara Graver.

5 out of 5 stars Invaluable resource for dance and classroom educators.......1998-10-16

Leap into Learning is a user-friendly resource which is a must for dance educators, classroom teachers, teaching artists and administrators who seek to build capacity in the arts by integrating dance into the curriculum. This delightful book, with beautiful photographs of children actually participating in the lessons, provides the reader with basic knowledge of dance concepts, combines that knowledge with warm-ups, and puts it all together in lessons that integrate dance and creative dramatics with Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math. The study of rock formations, friction, earth, moon and sun orbits, photosynthesis, addition, fractions, feelings, characterization and folk tales are just a few of the many exciting topics which come alive as this book guides and encourages both the teacher and student to create their own meaning and express their own understandings about specific academic concepts through movement. Participants of my "Integrating Dance into the Curriculum" workshops in New York City have received this book. The feedback has been extremely enthusiastic. Teachers who have utilized Leap into Learning say they "love it and are ready for more!" It has been a wonderful entry point into the world of integrating dance into the curriculum for hundreds of teachers and thousands of students here in New York City!

Parents wishing to extend and enhance their child's development will also benefit from the detailed notes on how to use music creatively. This fully illustrated book and the two accompanying music CDs incorporate:

Songs, rhymes, finger plays, music skills and percussion

Dance, drama, motor skills, listening skills, flexibility and relaxation

An integrated approach with links to other learning areas

Classical, jazz, folk and pop music including proven children s favorites

In an over-stimulated, fast-paced world, children can too easily be swept along in the rush, unable to gain the vital ability to use and develop their imaginations through lack of opportunity. This book helps to redress this imbalance.

                            Book Description

A revolution is taking place that will forever change the world of marketing. The strategies and techniques that have served marketers for years will not only decline in effectiveness, they will begin to quietly undermine the very brands and the customer relationships that companies have worked so hard to create.

The Quiet Revolution introduces a new marketing language, written by the pioneers of the online world. Powerful new concepts like Customer Communication Management (CCM) and Email Brand Value (EBV) are becoming indispensable tools for marketers, regardless of their industry and company size. This book brings together the experiences of today's online marketing leaders like IBM, American Airlines, and the New York Times to help aspiring email marketing programs achieve similar success.

4 out of 5 stars Very insightful summary of key issues in e-mail marketing.......2004-10-30

If you've never thought of email as a complex discipline like enterprise CRM, let Bill Nussey explain how certain leg-work must be done in order to achieve real success with the medium. In this age of CAN-SPAM and regulatory hot buttons, Nussey shows how to build and execute legitimate marketing programs to actually win customer loyalty and build key long-term relationships.

He cites several examples from top companies to illustrate his philosophies on everything from content to delivery issues. Good read!

                            5 out of 5 stars A Great Modern-Day Resource!.......2004-10-27

Finally, there is a resource I can show my boss which explains the importance and proper use for email marketing. Bill Nussey goes through the whole marketing process, and he stresses the importance for strict internal policies to manage the programs.

He really hits the nail on the head with his email brand value discussion - I don't think most companies even realize that they're irritating their customers with useless promotional messages. His premise that email hinges on relevancy rather than frequency is presented time and time again through several real-world case studies
