Customer Reviews:
Fantastic.......2000-04-26
This book is a perfect introduction to Yiddish film. Very little has actually been written about Yiddish film. Hoberman compiles the extant scholarship and couples it with astute and original analysis of the films. He brings Yiddish film away from being a novelty; he contextualizes Yiddish film in such a way as to show its general importance in mainstream film and American and European life. Yiddish movies portrayed the experience of Jews in the world; but more interesting is the effect Yiddish film had in the Americanization of Yiddish-speaking immigrants. For scholars interested in Yiddish film, this is a good first stop. For non-scholars, it is the only book you could want on the subject: entertaining, wonderful pictures and anecdotes, and interesting to browse through.

Wish List.......2007-06-27
The best wish list ever! Everyone should have these toys at least for once in a lifetime.
On the wings of the golden imagination!.......2007-01-12
The luxury as a way of living is an exquisitely illustrated book, which explores the universe of some expensive top of the line products, whose acquirement and enjoyment use to afforded by a select minority; ferretti and Wally yachts; Aston Martin; bentley and Ferrari; Gulfstrema private jets; Cessna Citation x, Jaguar xKR, Porsche Carrera GT are just only a few examples of sumptuous playthings of the affluent shown here - a set of golden dreams objects - that many would desire but few can afford. Your imagination will fly and ignite as well as your information scope around these "toys" designed with first-rate technology, impeccable refinement and top-flight design that conform an important place into the sweet life.
Luxury toys for big boys.......2006-03-19
Small boys and big boys wants the same things : TOYS. It's just the price that change depending on the age.
This book is fantastic. I found also a site where there is a lot of very impressing luxury tous : http://www.europaluxury.com
LUXURY TOYS.......2006-03-10
I was very happy with the book. But, Amazon takes too long to ship products. It arrived several days after I expected it and therefore missed Valentines day. I just ordered some perfume through amazon March 3, it shipped on March 7 and not scheduled to deliver until March 20. I order lots of itmes on line and Amazon is the slowest vendor .
An incredible showcase of high-priced and lavish vehicles.......2005-01-03
Compiled and edited by Anja Oriol, Luxuary Toys is a beautifully illustrated, 219-page, coffee-table showcase of things that only the fabulously wealthy can afford: Gulfstream private jets, Ferretti and Wally yachts, Ferrari and Bentley cars, and more. Very little text introduces these photographic galleries, but the writings that are present are in English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian. The majority of Luxury Toys is devoted entirely to vibrant, full-page color photographs and some technical specifications charts. For those who do not have millions of dollars to burn, Luxury Toys is an incredible showcase of high-priced and lavish vehicles, and the next best thing to visiting expensive auto, boat, or plane shows.

A mom.......2000-04-20
This book is beautifully illustrated. The outdoor scenes are very realistic. A clue is given as to what type of animal lives under the rock, log, etc., and then the reader lifts the flap to reveal the animal. Very fun and educational.

Lift the flap book ideal for 2yr old children.......1997-04-28
A great simple book with clear graphics and a lift up on each page. Milly searches a house looking for a monster, but instead finds animals under blankets etc. - the flaps reveal what the monster really is each time. Needless to say she does find her monster in the end. Each page also has four common elements (e.g. a spider) for the child to look for. Excellent

A beautifully illustrated picture book.......2006-07-25
The book I have in my lap at this moment is a picture book it was written by Judy Tatchell, designed by Reuben Barrance and illustrated by Peter Scott.
While it is certainly not a novel with characters and plot lines it is a fun and informative read for children under the age of 8. It has many small flaps and mini pages within pages, these may be torn by very young children so be careful. The book is a hard cover without a dust jacket - this makes it durable for it will be looked at again and again. The illustrations are just stunning - the colours and smooth lines are perfect for the 4-8 age group.
The content introduces young readers to Oriental as well as classic European dragons and highlights myths and legends surrounding them such as hoarding treasure and the tale of St George.
Well worth the price for fantasy loving littlies.
Affected me on so many levels.......2005-09-04
My goodness, what can I say about this splendid novel? For starters, you can enjoy it on so many levels and read into its moral implications in a way that hasn't been true for centuries past.
The protagist is not a "hero" in the superficial sense, nor is he an antihero, or even an antagonist. Instead, he is a real soul, trying to find the right path in life without hurting the ones he holds near his heart.
The antagonist is splendid to a point of malicious bliss: the evilness he exudes from every literary pore makes me want to exfoliate my metaphorical epidermis.
A stunning cast of multidimensional minor characters completes this stunning debut with verisimilitude that took my firy dragon breath away.
For a wonderful romp in the world of literature, tune in to this tome!

Essential for playing Vampire.......1999-05-10
This book is a real pearl! If you're playing Vampire: the Masquerade you can get along without it, but I recommend buying it anyway for it adds a whole lot to the game, especially the Flaws and Merits give a lot. And, do you really want to be left in the dark about the neutral clans? Also, if you like to include a lot of combat in your chronicles you'll be pleased to see the very well-done review of the weapons they left out in V:tM, from machine guns to throwing stones.
Great addition to the first book.......1998-10-02
I thought it was a great addition to the first book lately I find myself refering to it more than the Masquarade. The additional Clans help make you be able to expand and be more creative the additional attricutes, traits, etc. also help create a more indepth character with many new quirks and what else makes a good character?
A must-read for White Wolf replayers, LARP or tabletop........1998-05-05
If you really want to play almost any of White Wolf's games, you really should buy this book. It has beautiful artwork, (especially Max Fellwater, my fav), and a wonderful listing of secondary abilities, which ANY character should have on hand, Vampire, or not, when making your character.
A must for nearly any World of Darkness storyteller........1997-12-08
This is a remarkable book and offers the most comprehensive list of Secondary Abilities that White Wolf has ever had the good sense to produce. Everything from Acrobatics to Wyrm Lore is present and I haven't even mentioned the Independent Clans and Bloodlines yet. All I can say is...buy this book if you like detailed White Wolf Games...even if you're running Changeling...just trust me...pick this one up.
Customer Reviews:
A much needed expansion but with errors.......2007-06-25
I anticipated this product as soon as I heard of it. I purchased the Rage for my werewolf game and expected the book to treat it as a good players handbook to help expand characters and develop them fully. While the essays and articles on character conceptualization are good the book has some major egregious mistakes (vampire fangs doing aggravated damage?!?). Nevertheless it is a good book if you want a further explanation on the vampiric condition, expanding on the physiology and psychology of vampires. The artwork is also very well done.
Customer Reviews:
Not your normal WW supplement.......2003-10-28
As the title suggests this Players Guide is not the same as most other White Wolf supplements. This book is more along the lines of the Storytellers Guide in focus. What you find instead of reference towards the overall metaplot are articles by White Wolf writers as to their opinions on how to play the game itself. As the ST Guide was geared towards helping people ST better this Players Guide aims to give players more insight into playing.
There are articles ranging from creating mortal characters, to exploring Sabbat packs in depth, to vampires and sex. The tone of the book is one that's more conversational. Like a talk you may have with a ST as to their opinions on the game itself. It helps guide players into creating more well rounded characters as well as considering their larger role in the WoD setting. Unlike older guides you won't find lists of weapon stats or magical weapons.
Cons:
-Some of the articles come off as 'talking down' to players
-No fiction or hints towards metaplot
-The articles are opinions of writers rather than actual canon
-At least 2 of the sections seem to drag on longer than necessary
-STs may find more use from the articles than typical players
Pros:
-Writers from WW actually give their tips into the game they help create
-Gives great ideas towards new character concepts, mortal characters, and making stereotypes unique
-Worthwhile advice for STs and players alike
-Suggestions for new chronicles (Legacy of Damnation and Pack/Corterie centered games)
-A more conversational tone makes the book easier to read
As with every book that WW publishes they stress that the 'Golden Rule' is the only one that matters. Keeping that in mind I found this book to be a great addition to my library.
Vampire------A game of Political Intrigue.......2003-10-23
This book tells me that White Wolf is Pissed! This book tells how VtM is not a game just about killing and being a demi-god. I know, I know, this comes as a shock for some of you. This book also gives good advice for storytellers, like "George has a strength of 5; average strength is 2... why the hell does George have a strength of 5, did he work out a lot, no...he was a hacker geek? This does not make sense!" The only reason I give this book 4 stars rather than 5, is because we all love the fiction that goes with it(well, at least I do...) and, sorry to say, this book has no fic. Questions, comments, b!%ch outs? E-mail me at son_of_lux@yahoo.com

Let the Peasants rejoice!.......2003-12-16
PG to the LC lays out a definitive look at those known as Low to their Highborn brethren. Have you wondered what the Nos do when they are in their tunnels, or why they became the Sewer Rats, you will find your answers here. Wonder how cool the Gangrel must have had it in a time where cities had not yet taken over? Its all here.
All of the LC get special attention, new Combination disciplines, and new merits. The player tool boxes are helpful starting points for a character in that clan, and can point you in interestng directions.
In the end, if you plan to play DA Vampire, you should have this book. Even if you are not running a LC character, the information gathered here is invaluable.
Another homerun for Matt McFarland and company!

RPG.......2007-09-03
The Players Guide for vamps who just want to have fun. That is, if your definition of fun includes diabolic and murderous acts, and all that sort of thing. Carnage, chaos and do whatever the hell you want is the watchword here.
It's about time someone stood up to the Camarilla!.......1999-06-19
This is a very usefull book weather you intend to play a Sabbat character or not. If you DO want to play as the Sabbat, you definitely need this book. The things I found most usefull was the information on the different paths of enlightenment, the disciplines and the information on Sabbat virtues. All in all this one was ten times better than the Storytellers guid. If you only have enough to buy one of the books, dont make the mistake I did, get this one first! The Sabbat are going to curb-stomp those pansy Camarilla weaklings, so watch out gringos! Join the Sabbat and help tear down the Antedilluvian's pupets and their pathetic masqurade, Uncle Taco wants YOU!
Dont buy this book by itself.......1998-10-13
The Sabbat sourcebook is an insightful look into the Sabbat vampire system......if you already own the Revised system book. Many of the paths are confusing and Much of the Serpents of Light info was simply left out. Its a good book, but cant stand alone.
Don't rely only on this book.......1998-10-13
The Player's guide to the Sabbat is an insightful view into the Sabbat clans, if you own the Revised Masquerade book. Many paths are confusing, and most of the Serpents of Light info was simply left out. This book is useful if you have another $20 to spend.
You NEED it to be sabbat.......1998-10-09
Ha I always am picky with my reviews so a four ain't bad at all it is great. It definately was a great book just to read and definately interesting I wished the camarilla could be that interesting to read about but they are not. It is great for the mental development of any character that is antitribu...a definate recommendation before you even try to play a sabbat character in a camarilla bound world...it will add years to your character by realizing they are not blatantly outforth evil and givingyou more to work with....Enjoy the reading and the help.

Essential information for running your HC DA characters.......2003-12-16
The books for Dark Ages Vampire have been uniformly great. The new direction that Matt McFarland has taken the entire line is refreshing and his insights have proven a breath of fresh air in a book-heavy system.
Truly, you do not need this book to play the game. However, you will be at a great disadvantage to your fellow players who do have it. I know I wish I had this book when I created my last character!
The true highlight of this book is the best rendition of koldunic sorcery (the Tzimice's priest-mages) EVER!!! If you have wondered as a GM wha tthe heck kolduns could do, or wondered as a player wondering what made a Tzimice mage different from a Tremere, your answer is here, laid out in a frightening explanation of why these wisemen still control Eastern Europe.
Other highlights are Abyssal Mysticism (the Lasombra get some great infomration laid out here.), a healthy grouping of Combination Disciplines, and an indepth discussion of how th High Clans adopt mortal institutions into their unlives.
In short, buy it! You will love it!!

In their innovative book, National Pastime,
Stefan Szymanski and
Andrew Zimbalist compare the histories and institutional structures of baseballthe U.S. national pastimeand soccerthe major sport in the rest of the world. Their indepth, cross-cultural assessment of these huge mega-businesses, particularly Major League Baseball and the English Premier League, examines what makes each sport successful and details how administrators in each can learn from the other. Since National Pastime was first published, Malcolm Glazer, the owner of an American football team, took over one of the biggest soccer clubs in the world; Major League Baseball staged the World Baseball Classic in imitation of the soccer World Cup; and the leading soccer clubs in Europe have threatened to form an independent league modeled after the U.S. major leagues. The updated paperback edition contains a new preface, which provides fresh insight into the ongoing globalization of these great national pastimes.
Customer Reviews:
too little too late.......2007-02-03
Where to begin? First of all, this book is a century out of date. Americans do not play baseball in great numbers anymore hence the low TV ratings for the World Series (actually lowest ever in 2006). Also, look at the "international" aspect of MLB now--Japanese, Koreans, Chinese (via Taiwan) as well as the usual Latin Americans who are now greater in number.
A more relevant comparison would be football (as in the NFL and college) and soccer. Anyway, more Americans play soccer than, say, the nation of Britain, if we are talking sheer numbers. It's just it's a recreational sport and always will be because soccer is flat-out too slow, low scoring and has too much diving in it.
Personally, although the writing is there, the research isn't with this book. A far superior book that understands soccer and North American sports is: Offside by Markovitz and Hellerman. Buy that off amazon here not this misguided piece of junk.
Scientific review of history and current settings.......2006-05-30
The book is a thoroughly written book about baseball and soccer. It provides a lot of background and details to the extent that I sometimes thought that this is too much. You can't possibly memorize all those names and details.
However, the book is a very interesting reading, and if you are not interested in every single detail, some sections can be skipped.
In essence, the book is very interesting and many things can be learned. It is certainly not a light reading just for entertainment but more on the serious side.
Home run analysis of sports economics.......2006-04-05
Soccer and baseball enjoy fervent followings and generate wads of cash, so this study of the two games' economics and culture is as welcome as a towering home run (or a nifty goal). Economists Stefan Szymanski and Andrew Zimbalist compare and contrast the two sports' business models in a way that will fascinate anyone who is interested in athletics or international business. The authors offer a fascinating history of these sports, complete with plenty of telling anecdotes that are sure to enlighten even devoted fans. The only gripe is that the writers sometimes bog down in scholarly phrasing when the reader might prefer more active prose. Still, we recommend this intriguing study to anyone who specializes in sports business - or even just buys a ticket to a game now and then.
How good was this?.......2005-05-14
This book was absolutely amazing. I loved it, an easy read through and through. Szymanski and Zimbalist as economists explain wonderfully why soccer is so much more popular than baseball, and you can understand everything, there was not a weak point. I would strongly reccommend this book to anyone, an amazing read
