    Book Description

Movie Money is often one of the key factors in cinema plots. Characters on screen fight for it, lie for it, marry for it, steal it, counterfeit it, bet with it, burn it—just as many of us do in real life. But movie money, like its counterpart in the real world, is more than dollar signs and electronic blips on bank accounts. The "green stuff"' must be seen, smelled, fondled and caressed. To fill that important role film after film, Hollywood's storytellers have produced a wealth of imitation greenbacks, which has become a diverse, colorful and eminently collectible series.

Describing what is available, what is rare and what is valuable, the author demonstrates here just how graphically interesting these theatrical prop notes are in their own right. Based on ground-breaking research and interviews with insiders, including prop masters, set decorators and prop note masters themselves, this work catalogs and illustrates more than 270 types of motion picture and other theatrical prop money—including nearly 2,000 sub-varieties. A multitude of photographs and illustrations add to this unique study.

5 out of 5 stars Thorough and Informative!.......2002-12-28

This book is very comprehensive in presenting all the different ways one could get financing from traditional bank loans to more creative ones like seller refinancing (take a look at the table of contents). Two thirds of the book focuses covers the do's and don'ts of how to establish a good relationship with the bank, what the bank would like to see, and the proper way of working with the bank. It is very insightful and the author often throws in his own experiences/insights/observations as a bank officer as anecdotes for educating the reader. In the last third of the book, the author covers other ways to get financing for your business. This book is very easy to read, very concise and to the point as well as objective. This book is indispensible for those who want to become knowledgeable with all the different types of financing options.

5 out of 5 stars Taking advantage of your bank.......2000-11-30

There are very few books out there written by bankers telling a new business how to use their banking relationship to their advantage...this one does just that and more. I would put this on the suggested reading list of all small businesses.

5 out of 5 stars Show Me The Money, says Media Man.......2003-12-30

Max Markson's, 'Show Me The Money!", is the life story of arguably Australia's top PR man.

The book is a must read for entrepreneurs, promotional types, and anyone else in need of some inspiration or motivation. It's a business story, but it's also about life.

Like the man himself, 'Show Me The Money' is a colourful, straight up, humorous and easily understood. Mostly.

Max starts out at 7 years of age, performing as a fish for his father's aqua performance business. Boy, have things changed since then. Max documents rock concert promoting, pie eating, belly flop and worm eating contests, dial-a-fruit-basket, part-time "Superman" gigs, all the way up to selling big stories to Australia's "current affairs" programs and promoting business functions with guest speakers including former Presidents and Prime Ministers.

Markson is the manager of stars. Some of his clients have included Bob Hawke, Ita Butrose, Linda Evangelista, Greg Matthews, Belinda Green, Jack Brabham, Kamahl, Pro Hart, Jane Flemming, "Aussie" Joe Bugner, Dawn Fraser and so many more. Granted, some were stars of sorts before making contact with Markson, but "Maxy baby" has more than helped keep them there. Max proudly proclaims, "I can make anyone a star", and who's to argue! What's the name of the fellow who wrote this very piece? "Maxy" has also worked for the corporates in various capacities. Some of these include 2WS, 2UE, Reebok, Sargents Pies, Norgen-Vaaz, "The Mean Machine", Women's Day, Channel 9, The Avillion Hotel and The Variety Club.

At first, the reader may get the opinion that Max is preoccupied with money - not so. This could merely be the work of vicious media "hounds" placing misinformation into the living rooms around Australia. Max explains that relationships are worth more to him than any amount of money. Having had the pleasure of Max's company, he does possess the personal touch. This guy is even known to break into song during interviews!

A little spoken about fact about Markson is that he is a generous giver to charities. The media have largely ignored this. Many millions have been raised by Team Markson over the years, and he has helped keep many charities and businesses afloat.

Like many of us, Max has suffered some loss and misfortune in his life. For example, he lost $10,000 on a deal gone bad, and was left with a T-shirt for his money. Additionally, wharfs collapsed, there's been lack of water to dive into, and so the list of past woes continues. Like the true champion he is, Max keeps paddling feverishly and clinching the big deals that other promoters can only dream of; with huge tidal waves of success following.

Marvel at the $500,000 Bob Hawke deal. That one broke Australia's chequebook journalism records. It's enough to force a journalist to be committed. And you thought Natasha Ryan was big!

Part of the books' appeal is that Max has turned the tables on the media. They now pay him, rather than the media charging "punters" and others, ridiculous amounts of money, just to get a guernsey.

Whilst reading the book, or even just a few chapters in; you will likely be inspired, entertained and mesmerized, even if its plausible to interpret the man as having delusions of grandeur. Obviously, all promoters and PR types need to have lashings of ego just to survive, let alone gain the confidence of clients, and the soon to be. There is no dispute that Max's enthusiasm is contagious.

In Max's own words, successful business is based on Persistence, Enthusiasm and Focus.

Read this book today, and you will be on your way to possessing everything you'll ever need to be wealthy in all ways imaginable.

What a great collection. Many of these lines are standards in conversation among myself and my sons, but Jim brings back long lost memories of films that I had not seen in years. My wife and I have rented a number of movies based on this book.

5 out of 5 stars great book, fun gift.......1999-12-17

This is a great book for anyone who enjoys movies. It's light and fun and really does harvest some awesome dialogue from some awesome movies (but some I've never heard of). I also like how it's organized with categories like rants, insults, romance and my favorite "less than romantic."

                  Book Description

What do you do on Sunday? Grocery shopping? Laundry? Tasks left over from the work week? In our overstressed, overscheduled lives we seem always to be busy with work or busy seeking relief through entertainment. This new addition to the Sourcebook series helps us reclaim Sunday as the Lord's Day.

Through excerpts from scripture and the liturgy, from prose and poetry both ancient and modern this book helps us prepare for, ponder, and celebrate Sunday. Beginning with the origins of our Sunday observance and lingering over the wisdom of Jewish Shabbot practices, the book moves from Friday through Monday, evoking the many customs and activities that have marked our keeping of the Lord's Day and enabling theological reflection. This book offers materials for liturgists and catechists, for those who plan retreats, and for everyone desiring a richer experience of our weekly Easter. Through these eloquent texts we can come to see the veneration of Sabbath and Sunday-not as another obligation but as a means to our refreshment, growth, and intimacy with God.

Delta Green weaves the comic terrors of the Cthulhu Mythos seamlessly with the paranoia and shadowy forces of conspiracy theory, updating the stories of jazz era horror writer H. P. Lovecraft to the modern day.

                  Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Superior mythos fiction.......2005-06-06

I just finished this novel yesterday. It was a rollicking good read. Before I had found it I didn't know anything about Delta Green, as my RPG days are way behind me. Now I am finding a whole sub genre of modern technothriller mythos action horror. So far I have been blown away by Stross' story A Colder War, Goodfellow's novel Radiant Dawn and now Tynes' The Rules Of Engagement. And it's not even the subject matter that's so good, it's the terrific writing that makes these such
fun. In all of them, the prose crackles particularly the dialogue, the plot whips along and the characters have depth and believability. And I also like the way in ROE that they don't specifically mention any monsters by name. I don't think there was an 'Ia' in the whole book. When Tynes describes the horrific encounter in the jungles of Cambodia as a flashback, the terror felt by the survivor is palpable.

                  Verdict: rave review!

Oh yes, there is one disturbing and unnecessary reference to a
character named Matthew Carpenter who gets gunned down. But other than that...

5 out of 5 stars Sequel to "Alien Intelligence" and fiction for DELTA GREEN.......2004-10-28

DELTA GREEN is the modern adaptation of Call of Cthulhu. Drawing on the same body of UFO lore and paranormal activity as the X-Files, DELTA GREEN has tapped into something very deep. And of course, once you have a successful RPG, you might as well start the fiction flowing, right?

"Rules of Engagement" is really a sequel to the collection of stories in "Alien Intelligence" and assumes familiarity with the contents of the DELTA GREEN RPG book. So it's a niche market, but you didn't find this page just by chance, did you? If you're going to read "Rules of Engagement", you might as well start with the other two. Sure, they're becoming hard to get, but no sense doing something halfway, eh?

"Rules of Engagement" is a story about a kidnapping, and also a murder mystery, and a detective story, which is also a love story; it could also be one of those Tom Clancy CIA stories, but with less-expensive toys. It definitely involves at least one conspiracy, and a little breaking-and-entering. There are two or three mysteries that never get resolved, and one major character bites the dust (or does he?). Some people would say that it is a stylistically-poor novel, but I say it's a snapshot of life. The weird doesn't become normal, loose ends don't get tied up, and stories don't end where you want them to.

Because "Rules of Engagement" is a human psychodrama. The characters have their motivations; love, fear, loyalty, resentment, desire ... shake them like dice and roll them on the stage of life. They play their parts, whether good or bad, but at least with authenticity. And then the curtain comes down, and you have to put in another quarter to watch any more. And you know that you will.

I'm a huge fan of the mythos, of Delta Green, and of other DG fiction--the short story collections are truly amazing. So I finally got this novel expecting another fantastic romp, and was dismayed to find that it's a limp, formless concoction that reads like a transcription of the author's last roleplaying campaign. The dialogue is false, the plotting dull and aimless, and the descriptive prose borders in many places on high purple. It's not worth your money or time--buy Alien Intelligence or Dark Theaters (or the Delta Green sourcebook) instead.

I am a fan of both Cthulhu and conspiracy, and I really like Tynes' game books. However, I am also a fan of good fiction and terse prose, and I do not believe that this book is either of those. The dialogue was hokey, the horror was much more disgusting than it was scary, and if something was supposed to be really intense or significant, a couple of f-bombs screamed by one of the Delta Green ops drove the point home. I applaud Pagan and Armitage for creating Mythos fiction set in the modern times and written for mature audiences; I just wish it read nothing like this. Ultimately, the quality of this book does not match the quality of the Delta Green supplements on which it is based.

(I read the book on a flight to the west coast, and the only reason I finished it was because I believe that John is a stand-up guy and because the in-flight magazine looked like it was chewed on by a rabid dog.)

3 out of 5 stars Had potential, but..........2001-09-27

After reading the extremely entertaining Delta Green fiction "Alien Intelligence" I couldn't wait to get this book but unfortunatly when I finished reading it I was kind of dissapointed. It moves along kind of slow and you keep hoping for some action but it doesnt come page after page and the action doesnt come and when it finally does it only lasts a few pages and then no action and more no action. It does have its moments though and it does present some interesting ideas.
It might be worth it for those who play the Delta Green RPG to check this out as it has some cool ideas in it but for the casual Non-RPG player I wouldn't reccommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Investor Handbook.......2007-03-31

I was fortunate to come across Justin Mamis' book early in my career on Wall Street. Because of his book, I learned a lot about investor psychology and the art of selling which makes this book unique. It is just not charts and a bunch of "mumble jumbo"- it's learning through Justin's stories how investors behave in a given situation and what happens. I guaranteed it will help you become a better investor because it helped me. I started as a stockbroker but later became a portfolio manager at a major brokerage firm; chief investment officer for a money manager firm; a market strategist; and research director.

Yes, I like this book so 14 years after reading this book I was fortunate to be able hire Justin as my market technician when I became research director for a major regional firm. After working with him on a daily basis for a number of years, I can understand why institutions today are willing to pay a minimum of $20,000/yr. for his services.

One last note: I own a lot of investment books but "When to Sell" is the only book that has even been stolen out of my office. Not once but multiple times. In fact, I got so sick of having to replace it that I quit keeping it at work.

If you enjoy talking to your elderly Aunt, where a 30 second story turns into a 2 hour ordeal, then this is the book for you. One idea per every 100 pages. Stick to Murphy, Pring, Elder, and read the great book, "Technically Speaking." Why do the other reviewers like this book? I don't know either.

5 out of 5 stars Why five stars ??.......2002-10-11

When I started reading this book I was disappointed. The background chapters that attempt to teach Technical Analysis for example are covered somewhat better in other books (see John Murphy).

But the treasure of this awesome book is in the examples and stories in the later chapters. I wish I had read this book a couple of years ago. From a number of books that I have read, it talks quite a bit about short selling and risk. In my opinion .. it is a five star book ..

5 out of 5 stars Best trading book I've ever read.......2002-04-18

I have been an investment professional for over 20 years. I have read dozens of books--most long before the flood of "you to can be a super trader" trash of the 1990s. This is the best one. Mamis is an original and independent thinker. The book deals with psychology, tactics, technical indicators. His "How to Buy" is not nearly as good.

                  5 out of 5 stars If you don't have a real-life mentor..........2002-03-19

If you invest, wish you had a mentor on the trading floor, but don't know anyone who works on the exchange, you should read this book. Mamis discusses not only market indicators so you can better time buys and sells, but explains what happens on the trading floor and how the professionals -- the "they" many investors refer to grudgingly -- benefit from herd psychology. After reading this you will better understand why the "average investor" is more likely to lose than win, and why many people, in fact, subconsciously prefer to lose. Mamis has an easy style which reflects his many years of investing experience -- it is not a dry, academic discusson of the market.

Along with "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" and a couple of others, this is one of the best and most informative books I've read about the market.
