Book Description
Women like her because she's intelligent and has a great sense of style. Men like her because she's gorgeous, sexy, and smart. Sharon Stone is currently at the top of her game with a new husband, rumors of Oscar nominations for her role in The Mighty, and two new films in production. Journalist Tom Kummer gives the inside story of the woman known to be as stubborn in standing up for her beliefs as she is dedicated, hardworking, and generous.
Customer Reviews:
Short but beautiful.......1999-11-25
I have the French version of the book, but I thought it was touching, even if too short. The author seems to have a boundless admiration for Sharon, that he tries to conceal by often trying to convince us he doesn't fall into the star traps. I must add the pictures are simply beautiful; far from being a spring of information, this book is a piece of art, that you will like to keep on a shelf.

After her parents separate, Ginger Brown does a lot of moving. The lyrical first-person narrative relates a different experience for each month of Ginger's difficult but revealing first year as a suitcase kid. A sensitive and reassuring book for kids in similar situations.
Customer Reviews:
Over-idealized family life of bi-racial child.......2000-08-11
This was a sentimental story about a little girl's year after her parent's divorce. Showing how both her and her cat grow. It touches only lightly on the bi-racial character of her family background. That family is highly idealized, both grandparents living and with nice homes, all getting along fine.
Unfortunately, I came to this title from the Multi- Racial Activists' page because of specific concern over a bi-racial girl whose life is far from ideal. As a fact her life was filled with betrayal.
The highly idealized nature of the family in this book is not particularly realistic, specifically in the southern States. It doesn't touch on any controversial issues the complicate a bi-racial child's life, therefore is not appropriate for activism. Pamela jean Curry Film Director in Training, Film Studio Faux, Parody

This book is beautifully done. I had expected more actual "writing", but a picture is worth a thousand words and the photographs are stunning. A book of visual solace.
Customer Reviews:
Great subject -- bad execution.......2006-03-15
Being a fan of movies, both good and bad, when I saw this book at my local library I thought it'd be a fun read. I was wrong. Bad Movies We Love is an idea that's ripe with potential, but this book never lives up to it. It's very dated, which isn't an unforgivable sin seeing as how it was published in 1993, but content is very poor. Most of the book is spent on trashy dramas, romances and big-screen soap operas. The book almost entirely ignores sci-fi and horror movies (home of the greatest bad movies ever made), while devoting entire chapters to Sharon Stone and Troy Donahue. A lot of the themes that they divide the chapters into are negligible, and half of the movies listed could have fit in virtually anywhere.
The chapters themselves are arranged with the films in alphabetical order, frequently creating a situation where the authors refer to a movie that they haven't even discussed yet. And the writing itself is just dull -- they make the same tepid commentary time and again, over and over. Really, how many times can you read the same joke about a film killing off someone's career? And for that matter, how many times can the same actor kill off his career?
This is a bad book, but not a bad book I love.
It Couldn't Have Been That Bad!.......2005-03-23
Written by a couple of L.A. guys for Movieline magazine: Stephen Rebello has authored two previous books. Ed. Margulies was Executive Editor of the national film magazine in 1993. The movie stills on the cover and in the photo section are great, seeing the stars when they were young and in their prime.
Some of the movies I did like: Marjorie Morningstar, Grease, Half Moon Street, Vertigo, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The Jazz Singer (Neil Diamond), and Ash Wednesday (?). I agree that Play Misty For Me was bad. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
Buy Nick Clooney's THE MOVIES THAT CHANGED US for a really good book about some of these same films.
MIND BENDING PANTIES!.......2003-02-08
Anyone who's willing to write about Shelley Winters' HUGE bloomers in the underwater sequence of the Poseiden Adventure gets a snap from me!
Hilarious.......2001-09-06
This book is an absolute riot. The authors takes on these movies are great. What makes the book better than the standard bad movie review is how they trash movies you think might be good (like Fatal Attraction). My only complaint is there are sections with too many references to old (50's) movies that I have never heard of. Otherwise it is hilarious.
An absolute must have.......2000-07-22
I hate to say it, but I think I have seen every movie in this book, most more than twice. This is a very funny (and helpful for the afficianado) book. The premise is different than the usual book about "bad" movies: no "Plan Nine from Outer Space" et al- that's left to Michael Medved and his ilk. No, these are movies that just are slightly crazed, over the top, or just, well, BAD. Ones that will make you ask "What were they thinking? What were they smoking! " Some of the movies are laugh-out-loud stinkers like "Female on the Beach", some are just jaw-droppingly awful like "Xanadu". But the writing is funny and fresh, and you will find yourself agreeing with the reviews of the movie you have seen, and going to the video store for the movies you have not. Unfortunately one of the authors is no longer living, but I would hope that they could collect the rest of the reviews from Movieline (the magazine from which this book sprang) and put out more editions as soon as possible
Book Description
If you are already the head writer on a daytime drama, can you say your life is just like a soap opera? That's the question facing Bailey Connors, who is dumped by her girlfriend, saddled with the 22-year-old daughter of a network executive and driven close to madness by a friend's attempt at matchmaking. To top it off, she has been ordered to kill off the soap's leading lady on a special live episode, which will either be a disaster or the triumph of her career. But either way, love may be waiting on the other side in a very unexpected manner.
Sharon Stone is the author of Love Letters in the Sand and lives in Tampa, Florida.
Customer Reviews:
Light and frothy.......2006-10-30
This book does have its comic moments, hence the three-star rating but is not a lesbian romance, or, in fact, a lesbian anything. I can't say I fault the writing in this one, the author, Sharon Stone, has a nice easy flowing style and, on the whole, this is an easy read. It's just that I don't think I was prepared for the story nor, may I say, the characters to be so. . .well, soapy. I know, this is probably my fault as I am not a great fan of, nor do I watch any of the daytime soaps.
So how did I end up reading this book? Ah, well, that my, dear reader, we both may never know.
All that said, if you are a fan of watching the soaps and in the crazed frenzy you imagine goes on behind the making-of and the running-of a daily soap, then, by all means, this book will be both a delight and a charm. The humour is light and, at times, does sparkle. . .that is, if you like to see bubbles erupting from your mouth occasionally. Okay, so I'm teasing here.
Light, frothy, funny and, at times, a delight, but still. . .wasn't my personal cup of tea.
Boldly hilarious.......2006-06-26
If you've ever wanted to get an insider's look of a soap opera and be captivated by a lesbian romance, then look no further than ALL THE BOLD DAYS OF MY RESTLESS LIFE, the laugh-out loud novel that takes place on a daytime drama. Author Sharon Stone concocts a wild ride with main character Bailey Connors, the head writer on the soap billed with the same name as the book.
Though it seems like a dream to work on a wildly popular show, Bailey doesn't have it easy. She not only has to cater to the stuffy suits of the network executives, but she also has to wrestle with the demands of the spoiled, egotistical actors who don't always agree with the scripts they've been given. It's enough to make a girl pull her hair out. And Bailey's not trying to hear it right now, especially after being dumped by her longtime girlfriend.
Never fear, her trusty assistant Peter is there to save the day. Her flamboyant friend has a few prospects up his sleeve to help butch-looking Bailey to get back on the horse. But the women he sets her up with are horrible, to say the least.
And if Bailey's life could get any worse, she is stuck with one of the dumbest writers to ever live and has to rewrite months of scripts to kill off one of her favorite characters on the show. Talk about drama!!
Stone's All the Bold Days novel is hilarious not to mention outrageous. It has a quirky sense of humor that reads sharply and very quickly. She creates a great peek into the world of daytime TV, giving tidbits into the soaps. The ending wraps up well, as you root for Bailey to land on her feet.
Pick this one up if you need a good laugh.
Enjoyable.......2006-02-20
I enjoyed this book very much and will keep it in my collection to read again some day. Buy it...you'll like it.
Zany to say the least.......2005-09-19
If there was ever a book that fit the definition of zany, this one is it. Very few things make me laugh out loud, but I found myself in hysterics at the closing scenes. I'm not a fan of soap operas, but I do appreciate their spoofs. Bailey is the head writer for a show called All the Bold Days of My Restless Life. Every horrible cliche that applies to this type of show is attached to this one. What can you say about a show that has a main character named Aruba, her mother is Myrtle Beach and her stepsister is Bermuda Schwartz? Bailey's private life could be a feature story on her soap. After her girlfriend dumps her, her friend Peter arranges the three blind dates from hell. The first is with a woman who has a midnight online sex show and likes to use her dates as her "special guests." The second regales Bailey with details about why she has six children and how that has convinced her to start dating women. The last is a cop who gets drunk and starts shooting rats as they walk down the street, causing an encounter with some of New York City's finest. And then there is the fact that the two major stars of the show spend all of their time trying to do each other in professionally. Yes, it's light reading, not great literature, but sometimes it's just fun to read that.
If you love satire, this one's for you..........2005-09-14
I'm not a big fan of satire, so did not thoroughly enjoy the humorous side of this book. However, I was completely drawn into the underlying story. Bailey, the head writer for a daily soap opera with the same name as the book, seems to have a black cloud over her head. Her long-time girlfriend dumps her, her sarcastic response to a script change earns her a trip to the "Big Guy's" office, she is stuck mentoring a useless new writer who is related to a studio bigwig and ends up wreaking havoc, and she has to write off her favorite character. Of course, she has friends like Peter who want to help, but they only make things worse. While going through all of this, Bailey doesn't even realize she's falling in love with someone at work until it hits her square in the face.
I found this book to be similar in structure / intent as 'Castaway' by Advocate. The story was great, the characters were fun, but the comedy was a little over-done. This book is a great lazy-day read, but it won't be a permanent addition to my bookshelf. Enjoy it and pass it on.

Customer Reviews:
Not a Classic, but Still Good.......2005-02-23
Novelist Sydney Sanders is invited to a party by one of her fans. Little does she know the love of her life, a woman no less, is waiting there for her. That woman is L.C. Hackett, a rock star who hasn't won a grammy in several years and is trying to get back on top. This reader enjoyed the story, but won't spend the time to read it again. The romance was great and most of us would love to have a relationship like theirs, but nothing really happened in the book. Sure, there were angst and issues surrounding making two lives one, but the story was bland and unexciting. It almost seemed like a "day in the life" of these two women instead of an exciting new relationship.
Recommended for when you're in a melancholy mood and don't have anything better to do... accompanied with a cold beer and a bag of chips. This one only takes a few hours from start to finish.
Best love story I've read.......2004-11-28
This was definitely the best love story I've ever read. It was so real it makes me wonder if this Sharon Stone didn't have a fling with kd lang and wrote one of those thinly-veiled fiction based on fact stories. Sydney's reason for falling for this flawed character is clearly stated in several places throughout the book. She's simply helping another woman evolve emotionally and break through some barriers from her past. She can do this because she already has accomplished this before the two met and realizes how important it is to take care of regrets while you have the chance. One thing I noticed was how these two opposites eventually fit so well together, like yin and yang. Their differences were what drew them to each other, but as they get to know each other, they find those differences are also similarities: like when they're talking about how men have treated them L.C. says "men are mean to me because they don't like my body... they're mean to you because they do." And this was a great behind the scenes look at a rock star's life. It was like being a fly on the wall. It was part National Inquirer and part great literature... something for everyone. A great read!
Very average.......2004-09-25
I found this book to be very average. The character who played the rock star did not come off as a very sympathetic or likable person. I also could not figure out why her new girlfriend (a successful writer) loved her so much. Overall I found this story not very compelling. The loves scenes were not even good.

very "official" information.......1998-09-30
it was the first book l read about this actress.Although it gives much information about her childhood, her movies and, partly, her life that information is nothing more than "official".l mean that Michael Munn does not give more "juicy" information about her, does not talk about some unknown sides of her character, something about which most of her fans would like to know. Also,Munn avoids to talk or,better,to write about scandals and rumours having to do with Stone. She can't be that perfect!I may be the biggest Sharon Stone fan in the world, but some times we have to be objective!

I feel like trashing this book, but how do you trash trash? How do you poop on poop? I am happy with everything else I got from amazon.com, but this book is... . Make a note of the author's name. I will never waste my money on anything he writes ever again. I won't buy his books even if he uses a pseudonym. How did a great publisher like Birch Lane ever pass on this, anyway?

The Worst Book I Ever Tried to Read.......1999-03-27
I usually don't write negative reviews but I want to save people from buying this book. If Amazon.com had 0 stars I would have picked that. Giving it 1 star seems too much.
I was interesed in reading more about Ms. Stone due to an incredible interview I saw her give on cable (I believe it was Inside The Actors Studio on Bravo). She literally had the audience spell-bound. She was articulate, compassionate and a class-act. Nothing like she is portrayed in this book. It is poorly written, poorly edited and the authors name-dropping is so pathetic you almost feel sorry for him.
Save your money. Maybe Ms. Stone will write an auto-biography.
TERRIBLE!.......1997-11-28
Does as much justice to Sharon Stone as "Sliver" did for her career. Only good for begining readers, fans of tabloid trash, or Stone fans who love dissing Demi Moore or Madonna. Wait for the TV movie.
A piece of crap.......1997-09-10
This book reads like the author dictated it from his desk half-drunk,with a bunch of magazine articles about Sharon Stone as a reference. Poorly written; as a book, its a mess. Even public figures should not be subjected to this type of abuse. Its laughable in the way names are dropped that have nothing to do with the subject and then placed in an index as if this were a serious book. The author's attempt at jokes are
embarassing. Unbelievable.

Lateral Thinking: Creativity Step by Step (Perennial Library)

Book Description
These are think-out-of-the-box brainbusters, lots of fun for anyone who enjoys a challenge. Some of the situations presented may seem really strange, and almost impossible to solve, but once the obvious assumptions are discarded, the answers begin to come into focus. The key lies in being creative, and getting into the groove by trying the easier puzzles before moving on to the super-hard ones. The collection includes problems that use visual clues, timed questions, and thorny conundrums that ask you to look for sequences, uncover relationships, use deductive reasoning, and make clever observations. It’s a true test of anyone's smarts.
Customer Reviews:
Very Poor.......2007-08-07
Mensa should be ashamed to have their name on this book.
The puzzles are brief with answers that are either obvious or ridiculous.
Many of the answers my daughter and I formulated made more sense AND used more lateral thought.

All I can Say is Great!.......2006-10-28
My sub teacher is currently reading this in my advisory class. It's a really great book with mysteries since I'm into it. If you're a person who loves mysteries and try to solve them, then this is the book for you!
Some decent lateral thinking puzzles, some out there puzzles.......2005-08-16
If you've read lateral thinking puzzle books before, this one is not much different. It's somewhat thicker than most of those books, so it has more puzzles, but it also has a few less-than-superb puzzles. The historical puzzles for the most part are trivia bits more than deductive reasoning, but they take up only a small amount of the puzzles.
I'd say two out of every three puzzles are still anywhere from challenging to downright clever, which is enough for me to give it almost 2/3 of a full score.
This is one of the dumbest books ever written!.......2004-04-08
This is not a book for intelligent thinking, it's a book of parlor puzzles and trivia factoids. Perhaps in a different format it could be entertaining, but as a question and answer book it just plain stinks. Sample question: A man went into his local shopping center. A woman whom he had never met before wished him a happy birthday. How did she know it was his birthday?
The "Answer": The man went to an eye doctor to have an eye test. The doctor looked at his record and noticed that today was his birthday.
I had to flip pages to find this nugget of an answer! I want my money back for the time I spent looking at this book!
Book Description
Welcome to the world of captivating lateral thinking puzzles! These tricky little conundrums always have more than meets the eye: to unravel them, you need to think completely outside the box. Solvers must decide which of the facts in each puzzle are important and which are red herrings; they even have to project into the future and guess what crucial details have yet to be revealed! That’s what makes these challenges so entertaining. They provide hours of speculation and amusement, help improve readers’ reasoning skills, and expand the imagination. There’s a wide range of difficulty to choose from, and great illustrations plus a wacky sense of humor add to the fun. A clues section will help out if you get stuck.

I loved to measure my mental meddle against this book. Part of the fun is not knowing if you will ever get it. I recommend asking someone else to look at the answer and tell you if you can. Some seem impossible, but most seem obvious once you hear the answer.

Customer Reviews:
Forget it -- A waste of money.......2007-07-07
This is THE worst book on sales prosepcting I've ever purchased... and I have a room full of sales books.
I know Mr. Hopkins is a prolific author and I have to say I've never read any of his other books, but this one is dreadful. If Amazon had a minus star rating for: "...help me get my money back..." This would be a five out of five stars.
fantastic.......2007-03-27
Hopkins is a professional teacher. It's like he's right there with you as you read the book. The principles are fabulous. This book is worth your time whether you're new or experienced in selling.
Good Book for newbie sales people!.......2005-11-04
I've read How To Master The Art of Sales in the past.
This small book is very good for new people about to start
a career in SALES! Buy it, it really gives you good ideas
of where, what, when and whom to prospect for your business.
I always go back to this book when I need my basics tuned!
I get great ideas of where to prospect from this book.
Truly awful!.......2003-01-04
This book is like Hopkin's other book, Selling for Dummies. It's totally AWFUL! The cheesey, numb-brained approach does not even remotely relate to what today's salespeople must accomplish or the host of regulations and competitive pressures under which they must perform. There are much better books by true experts (see my list). Three are Conceptual Selling by Miller and Heiman, Psychology of Call Reluctance by Dudley and Goodson, SPIN Selling by Neil Rachman. Your money would be better spent on one of these, or better yet, all three.
Sales Prospecting for Beginners.......2001-09-14
Mixed in with many rather boring stories are little pearls of wisdom that all beginners in sales require. I have yet to hear any sales person or trainer NOT say "Learn about your client", "Listen closely to what your client says", etc. The basics are certainly there. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much more than that. Creating distinctive marketing segments, creative approaches to prospects, analysis of sales successes and failures, along with all of the techniques required to become a top salesperson - except in real estate I guess, are sadly lacking. I expected much more from this book.
