Customer Reviews:
I like the NKJV!.......2007-09-01
The NKJV of the Bible takes some knocks but I think it is a good solid strong translation of God's Word! I like this edition (I wish they had used better paper, India or French-Milled) but...overall it is a nice size and I like it, in general, the NKJV of the Bible is the one my wife and I use. Grace and Peace
Light weight and comfortable.......2007-08-07
I like my copy of the NKJV Signature series ultra slim Bible. I have been looking for a leather Bible with these proportions and a typeface that I can still read. This Bible fulfills those two goals. The fact that it is calfskin probably did make it a little easier for me to buy it. Originally, I wanted a NASB with these features (still do, I guess) but for the time being I am happy with this one. I would snatch up a Nelson's Visual Reference in NASB if they put a calfskin or even genuine leather cover on it (not bonded, simulated, pleather, etc.). Are you listening Nelson? OK, back to this Bible. It is soft to the touch, extremely flexible (you don't feel like you're going to break it if you fold the front cover back over itself) and light enough to hold for long periods of time. I noticed a little unevenness in the gold edging on the pages (with the Bible closed), they look like lighter spots or maybe water spots. The only other thing that puzzles me is why the front and back (flyleaves?) are glued about 1 inch from the spine creating pages that looks like a mistake was made. I don't have any other Bibles or books that have this kind of gluing, so it makes me wonder if it is indeed supposed to be this way. Other than that, I think it is a very nice Bible and would recommend it to anyone looking for something light, flexible, readable, and (I believe) durable.
uncomplicated sophistication, worth the extra $.......2007-02-25
Beautiful!! Simply beautiful:) I will not waste your time with previously stated details.......other reviewers have covered these issues. I say, " if you need to justify the $40 extra dollars"..............go to any major bookstore, Christian or otherwise and casually p/u a standard "leather bound" Nelson Bible....notice how the leather trim is covered by the book's cover/back flap pages instead of the leather trim going OVER the flaps themselves? Looks a little hurried to me. SLAP the glue on...we have to go go go...get this one off the press, etc.... Oh and don't mess around with that "special high quality Bible paper"....no no......this ho-hummmmm not-so-fine paper will do just fine. Aaarrrrrrrgh. Penny wise, pound foolish. The signature Bible takes the extra steps to make this particular BIBLE elegant and exceptional. My copy melts into my hands allowing me to simply focus on the GOOD NEWS....no distractions. I open the book and read b/c my subconscious isn't thinking about rough leather/hardcovers, hand fatigue or even if the pages will tear. Nope. Just the right size for just about anywhere I could possible want to keep it:) THIS is MOM's Bible!! Dad, get your own:)
Amazing Signature Series Bibles.......2007-01-17
I have purchased a number of Bibles in my lifetime and will continue to do so but this Bible is by and far the nicest that I have ever purchased for a gift. The look and the feel of the soft leather is incredible and being the most widely read book in the world with the most significant message in the world makes this an incredible gift especially for this price
NKJV UltraSlim Signature Series Bible.......2006-10-18
Just to let you know I`ve used many bibles in the past and so far feel
this NKJV Signature bible by Nelson is the best.
Cambridge does not print a NKJV bible and the competiton is "slim".
Allan of Glasgow bibles have yet to come up with a quality NKJV bible.
The calfskin leather is soft and it opens and feels like a dream.
The paper is also what I like since inferior paper tends to dry out
my hands!
The pages are in a quality binding and will stay intact for a long time.
As for the format less is better for me. I would rather read the bible
and focus on the word than comments from elsewhere.
Buy it you`ll like it!

Fixed-income investments will never be as sexy as the day's hottest stock or a mutual fund focusing on the market sector du jour. But their very stability, combined with the equilibrium they provide when the Dow and the NASDAQ start bouncing around like 6-year-olds on a sugar high, are exactly why savvy investors count on them to round out their portfolios. Marilyn Cohen's The Bond Bible offers an unambiguous look at this once-arcane world, which--like much relating to investing--has become considerably less mysterious and immeasurably more accessible with the advent of the Internet. Cohen, president of a capital management firm, fully explains everything from income streams and the Treasury yield curve to the pluses of federal agency bonds and the negatives of high-yield issues. In simple terms, she also addresses advanced strategies such as leveraging, credit rating agencies, and insurance, bond funds and unit trusts, and nontraditional vehicles such as those tied to rock & roll royalties. Exactly how much of your portfolio should be devoted to bonds is a personal choice based on individual circumstances. Once you determine that, however, this book will help you reach an informed decision on what to buy, where to obtain it, and how to manage what you've got. --Howard Rothman
Book Description
Whatever your age, income or total assets, bonds belong in your portfolio. A symbol of security, bonds have long had a place in any well-rounded portfolio. As millions of baby boomers shift their focus from the lure of capital appreciation to the necessity of capital preservation, bonds are moving from a supporting role to the spotlight. Many individual investors, however, know precious little about them. Marilyn Cohen, one of the nation's best known columnists and commentators on the bond market, demystifies bond investing and offers a shopper's guide to finding great bond buys and a master blueprint for building a winning personal bond portfolio. Packed with facts, real-world examples, and savvy advice, The Bond Bible covers:
The right bonds-to-stocks ratio for a sound portfolio How to turn a bond investment from a safety net into a money-maker How to identify a genuine bond bargain How to determine which "store" gives the best value for different kinds of bonds The pitfalls of the bond market and how to avoid them The lowdown on bonds and taxes How to know when to sell a bond and for the best price The scoop on the latest trends, including on-line bond investing
Customer Reviews:
How to Sell this Book.......2007-09-09
If you search Google for "When to Sell a Bond", the only book that comes up is this one, so I bought it. Unfortunately, it really does not describe this at all, only to sell when "Things Go Bad" or "there has been a good run-up"...so I plan to re-sell this book... otherwise if your looking for basic bond concepts and ideas this book is okay.
disapointment.......2005-07-18
I would suggest that any reader wishing to learn about bonds in any detail other than the most simplistic, will be utterly disappointed. It was a waste of money, if I may be so blunt.
Malcolm Yellon.
One of the Best Books on Bonds Out There.......2005-01-26
You've heard the old mantra: Diversify, Diversify, Diversify -- but have you actually heeded that advice? Until I read this book, I had no real concept of what bonds could do for my portfolio. To me, bonds were boring, stale, stagnant, and, well, really couldn't hold a candle to the potential double digit returns stocks and mutual funds could produce. Why would I even bother?
Marilyn Cohen takes you by the hand and walks you through the often convoluted terms (i.e. rate to maturity, convertible bonds, laddering, callability, etc.) and explains them in easy to understand terms with practical examples. Don't let that deter those of you that are experienced bond traders -- there are things in here for you too.
After reading this, I feel a lot more comfortable adding bonds to my portfolio, as well as talking about them with investment professionals. There's a lot of potential out there in the fixed income field if you know what you're looking for. At this point, I know enough to adequately diversify my portfolio.
Stocks are not enough..........2003-03-05
My name is Bond. Bond Bible. All jokes aside, bonds have been sorely underestimated. So many people forget that bond holders are creditors. So that when a company folds, shareholders lose out, but most often times bond holders get paid out. Ms. Cohen pulls no punches and is solid in her review of the bond world. I even like her inclusion of "Bowie" Bonds, the rock and roll bonds that were founded several years ago.
In all her talk I found her discussion light on leveraged bonds. Bond futures are also a viable means to enter this fixed income investment. I should know I've been doing it for 11 years.
That aside this is a one of kind book that no modern investor can do without.
The Title Gets it Right........2002-11-23
"The Bond Bible" is a solid primer on bonds and bond trading for those who are not financial services professionals. Interest in fixed income investing has risen dramatically with the recent vicissitudes in the equity markets, but wise investors already had a portion of their portfolio assets in debt securities. Marilyn Cohen cites the rule of thumb that an investor should have a fixed income component equal in percentage to their age -- and while not an advocate of "rules of thumb" in general -- I agree. To steal a phrase from Warren Buffett -- it's often more important what you don't lose than what you make! The last two years in the equity markets have demonstrated the value of proper asset allocation, but before charging off to reallocate your investments into fixed income, read "The Bond Bible." A well managed bond element in your portfolio can reward you with income, capital appreciation, AND a return of principal. You won't see that in equities.

Book Description
This study reconstructs the life of Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor responsible for the execution of Jesus. The first section provides the historical and archaeological background. The following chapters look at six first-century authors: Philo, Josephus and the four gospel writers. Each chapter asks how Pilate is being used as a literary character in each work, why each author describes Pilate in a different way, and what this tells us about the relationship between each author and the Roman state.

Dispelling the Cliched Viewpoints.......2007-06-26
This is a very refreshing and compelling study, trenchantly argued and comprehensively researched. Do not believe what the History Channel and other media outlets propound; read and assimilate the facts.
A Powerful Piece on Pilate.......2001-10-05
At last, a well argued, clear, thoughful and incisive academic book on Pilate. Bond has a clear grasp of first-century culture, both Roman and Jewish, and handles texts highly effectively. As yet, this book is the serious historical piece on Pilate that has no competition over its academic credentials.

Customer Reviews:
McKay gives a great introduction to Covenant theology.......2005-10-30
David McKay gives a fantastic introduction to covenant theology in this book.
His main focus is to show the Biblical support for covenant theology, and he does this extremely well. He also touches upon many of the detractors to covenant theology and gives a brief synopsis of the challenges they present and why they are incorrect. He also has a chapter on dispensationalists to discuss the differences in these theological approaches.
David McKay gives a great introduction and throughout the book, eludes to different topics which can provide for further study and edification. I would strongly recommend this book to all who are new to theological study, or who may consider themselves in need of study in this particular area.
McKay is solidly reformed and Presbyterian in his approach, which may turn some off, but the support he gives for his positions, while sometimes brief, are certainly sufficient to prove his position.
Approx. 300 pages. A fairly quick read, and well worth the time.
Solid and Helpful.......2004-07-15
David McKay, a pastor in the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Ireland and a professor at the Reformed Theological College (Belfast), has done a wonderful service with this book. Topic by topic, Prof. McKay reveals both the comprehensiveness of God's covenant and how His covenants impact all of life.
One reviewer mentioned that this was more of a systematic theology than a book on covenantal theology; my counter-argument would be that there ought to be no significant difference between the two. If we serve a covenantal God, any systematic theology we engage in ought to be covenantal. David McKay accomplishes this and helps his readers toward a more Biblical theology.
Clear-sighted, relevant and practical.......2002-08-12
"Could anything be more beautiful than the gracious covenant which the Lord makes with saved sinners?"
With that incentive, Prof. McKay invites us to join him on a journey from before time began, through history, and into eternity, tracing the outworkings of God's love for mankind as it is expressed in his gracious promise to save sinners.
This book is like a mini library on a vast array of topics. It starts with delving into the nature of God himself and moves through to a conclusion with the triumph of Christ's Kingdom and a look at the new heavens and earth. Throughout, the practical usefulness of covenant theology (or how we relate to God, and He to us) is brought to bear on a huge range of issues, from biblical issues like election, sanctification and the sacraments, to current issues such as feminism, New Age Movement and evolution. In doing so, Prof. McKay provides readers with the biblical tools to understand these many topics.
But this book is no cold academic exercise in some obscure area of Christian thinking. This is the very heart of our relationship with God. And it is a warm, living, beating, pulsating heart - the unfathomable mystery of God's love for unworthy sinners. Such a topic will inevitably stretch our finite minds. But if you are prepared to have your mind stretched, you will be greatly rewarded as you delve into this great subject.
Prof. McKay combines clarity, incisive thinking and warm practical application. As well as coming to a clearer understanding of many topics, I found myself with much material to deepen and enrich my own devotional times. He has a gift not only for anticipating and answering your questions or objections, but doing so in such a way as to fit it all into the whole framework of scripture.
This is a book to be read and studied carefully. A great reference tool and an essential part of the Christian's library.
