Each chapter will have the same basic structure, beginning with introducing the movie covered in the chapter and how it works, to customizing each component, to reassembling the customized components into a working Flash feature. Additionally, the book will offer suggestions and tips on further customization and list other resources the reader might want to consult.
Flash Site Workshop allows the reader to work either feature-by-feature to assemble a site completely in Flash or to choose only those features that the reader wants to use in their particular site.

If you learn from deconstructing pre-built flash applications, you'll love this book. This book is full of useful flash applications such as an online store, a services catalog, a user survey, a threaded message board, and smaller more common examples, such as flash player sniffers, and preloaders. It shows you how to add quicktime movies to an application, work with various server-sided languages such as asp with an access database, or php with a mysql database and XML. I can't say enough good things about this book. It's one of my very favorate flash books. The book's written for Flash 5, but the examples are still better than newer published books ... it's not easy to find good server-sided Flash books.
Really stupid book.......2002-01-09
Flash is all about snazzy sites. You don't need Flash if you're gonna make flat stupid looking sites like this book shows. Get a clue - look how many USED copies are for sale with UNOPENED CD's... The book is decieving - at first glance you think "Yeah!" until you get it home and realize that it's all smoke and mirrors with no substance and certainly no use of Flash in the modern designer sense. You call up their demo site and it's like "uhh?" - flat as a pancake.

A great book!. Everyone knows (and criticizes) Flash for slick animation and splash pages. Most books focus on Flash as an animators tool. This book demonstrates advanced Flash interface design from start to finish - including dynamic content and database integration.
A comment from one of the Authors.......2001-06-01
The full operating system and software requirements listed are necessary for a few of the movies included: the Online Store and Cart, the Dynamic News and Reviews and the Threaded Message Board. As those movies generate dynamic content, it was necessary to make a decision as to which back-end system to use. We chose Windows NT/2000 and Active Server Pages because they have the largest install base. However, anything that we've included can be modified to work with another back end system.
The rest of the movies, which include the Home Page, the Viewer Survey, the Services Catalog, the Preview Links and the Container Movie, can be modified and used on any platform or system.
Whilst I only worked on part of the book, it was a great experience and I hope that everyone has just as a great time learning as I did writing.

The book overall is very well written. The tuning section is bit weak. Rebiltz explains the methodology well but there's not enough for a novice. It needs more exercise, listening techniques, explanations on physical nature of pins and pin block relationships - i.e., hammer techniques and pin settings. More information and techniques on using electronic/computer aided tuning methods will also help beginners. I have bought this book with the hope of improving my tuning skills but it falls short. The rest of the content is excellent.
A Must Have Book!.......2006-08-17
When I first received this book I have to admit that my brain froze with some of the technical jargon. Then I found the chapter on how to open the piano and everything made sense. I have always viewed pianos like I view cars. If you hit the key, or in a car, turn the key it should work! If not then I'm lost. But with this book's help I've already been able to repair two non functioning keys and I understand the problems that still need fixing. Also I was motivated to try and fix some problems by myself after being told by two professionals that they charge $100.00 just to come to the house. The piano was a freebie so I'm comfortable trying some of the repairs myself and I'm very excited that I may be able to do all of them with the help of this book. If you are looking to repair or refurbish an inexpensive piano then you will not be sorry if you buy this book. However if you have an expensive piano you may want the pro's first. This book could help you understand what they are talking about and keep you from paying for unnecessary repairs. It gives great insight on uprights, spinets, and grand pianos with detailed illustrations.

It all starts here with this book. If you want to know about what goes on "under the hood" this is the book to get. There are sources for more detailed accounts of individual subjects, but if you had to pick one book to cover the subject - this is it.

Pretty good as piano instruction books go........2007-01-23
Not much to say. I went through about ten beginner books when I was learning how to play the piano and I believe this series is probably the best organized and easiest to understand. It is best if you start at the beginning and do the entire series. Have fun makin' music!!

As a medium to hard crossword puzzle lover, I have found #2 and #4 (the only ones I have) in this series to be GREAT! There is a variety of relatively easy to somewhat puzzling to I can't finish this yet. There is a variety of "straight" word answers and ones with "twist." I'm really enjoying these. AND, the hard cover backing and large spiral bound make is easy to flip the book inside out and do the puzzles at work at lunch, on a bus, while being the backseat passenger in a car, etc., etc.

The 1031 exchange is a tool I use personally and with clients. This is a good book to get the basics and examples of how to do this type of proceedure and the Starker (reverse) exchange. The book is a little dry and is packed with a lot of information. Don't sit down to read it unless you have a pen, notebook, calculator, and a good chunk of time. A 1031 is a really great tool, especially if you are a real estate agent.

An excellent text on the 1031 transaction. Long on examples and step by step explanations, this book will explain the tricks and traps of 1031 real estate transactions.
At times more than you want to know, the book finds its balance and leaves you with an in depth understanding of how to use the tax code to your advantage. It allowed me to question our intermediary about some aspects of our 1031 transaction without seeming foolish. If you are looking for a book that will raise your confidence in dealing with a complex tax free exchange this is the one.

Do not buy this book if you are looking for an intro to the basics of 1031 exchanges. It is not a "how-to" book. You should buy this book if you want ideas and examples of how to use exchanging in non-standard ways to make deals happen.
