The Best in Its Kind.......2007-08-05

If are a begginer and have failed with many toher books, this is the last book your should need. With this book you can work on your own or find an instructor to get you going. Bruce doesn't teach you how to play songs, he teaches you rhythm patterns and strive to groove your rhythm.

My chord shifting/holding and rhythm has improved a lot (of course I should have made more efforts). Do your part (practising regularly) and you'll find yourself you can be a guitarist. The rhythms on CD are so beautiful and the quality is excellent. One thing Bruce could have done was helping with "counting" (such as 1 e & da, etc.) and play the examples in slower tempos. I also have his "Ryhthm Guitar" (the Complete Guide).

On the side note, Bruce Buckingham could be the best rhythm guitar player on earth.

Guitar Basics Level 1.......2007-07-12

I have been teaching guitar for a number of years and this book would be the best learning aid I have come across. The lessons are interesting and arranged in an excellent way. Chords, strumming, scales, rhythm playing are easy and manageable for the beginner. There are sections on the blues, movable chord shapes, inversions. A good section on practice tips and the audio cd is well done. Bruce Buckingham is a good teacher and he is able to communicate all the basics well. The logical step up from this book is another Bruce Buckingham book, "Rhythm Guitar The Complete Guide".
This book is more in depth but is really the complete guide to guitar playing for the beginner, intermediate student. Great stuff!

Excellent Guitar Refresher Course .......2007-06-20

This is a good book if you want to get away from all the "licks & tricks"
guitar method books out there on the market.This book gives you the first
steps to really understanding the guitar & its primary function in a music
setting.You can learn by rote & imitation or you can truly understand the
chords that make up songs & the rhythms within them.By learning chords &
progressions,this book helps you play the universal ingredients in all
popular song forms.This book along with Jody Fisher's "I used to play
guitar" are excellent if you want to build a strong foundation.If you
really want to understand what it takes to be a compitent guitarist,start
with this book!

Just what I needed to start playing for real.......2007-02-27

I've been fiddling with the guitar for years now, without making any progress. It's tough being married, with kids, a job, and other hobbies to get serious with lessons and everything. I found this book gives enough direction to make real progress in short practice sections. The steps are deceptively simple; you'll learn a principle, and then you'll be responsible to practice it until it's right.

Even with just a little time I'm filling in a lot of gaps in my playing. I'm learning open chords I ignored before. I'm getting much better at my transitions. My fingers are getting stronger. In just a few weeks, I've advanced more than in many years of goofing around. This book is well worth the price.

I had read the customer reviews on this book, and bought it based on them. My expectations were high, and this book exceeded them. This book is full of useful and practical information that I haven't found in any previous books.

The Technical analysis part of this book was worth the price of it alone. I have changed the way I trade after reading this book. The Technical analysis sections are so simple to use, and very practical to implement for any home investor.

The options strategies were good, I must admit, I thought there was a little cherry picking on the examples given, but all in all I was extremely impressed with this book and highly recommend it to anyone else.

One of the most practical trading books.......2007-05-29

The third edition adds approximately 150 pages to this insightful text.

The original editions focused more on what to do with existing longer-term holdings. The new chapters on using chart patterns and candlesticks as well as determining when and at what price to buy and sell are more focused on the short to intermediate trader.

As before, the author gives many examples and tips along the way. He now includes a chapter on risk control and money management.

Mind Blowing.......2006-12-04

I have traded futures contracts, stocks, and options. If you have experience in option trading reading this book will blow your mind. These techniques should be common knowledge to anyone that have done option or stock trading, but it was not in my case. If you do not know how to trade options this book may be confusing. If you first read up on options on the CBOE (they have a lot of info) then buy this book.

Yes it is out of print, but if you can get it, get it. The author has a web site [...] and is supposed to have the book for sale, but he has not answered my email (yet). He is probably too busy counting his money or sitting on the beach somewhere.

Pure Practical Advice with out any BS.......2005-09-22

I read many books on trading. This is one of the best books I came across among many of them. The author gives you pure practical advice and illustrates his point with real life examples instead of hypothetical scenarios.

In my opinion book is worth reading. You wont regrett. Neither your time nor money will go wasted.

I have had this book for over a year and found it very helpful and profitable In fact after a couple of months of losses I was able to turn things around using the ideas in this book. The author progresses from simple to more advanced ideas with lots of actual market examples. The first few chapters focus mainly on using options to raise cash on stocks. The author dedicates a couple of chapters to covered calls, a couple of others to combining covered calls and puts to increase your cash generation. Two chapters are also dedicated to timing techniques on when to sell the options. One chapter is dedicated to raising cash on stocks below $5 using naked puts. The author shows how you can make cash by increasing premiums using in the money options as well as using low premiums by selling out of the money options.
The last few chapters of the book focus mainly on trading stocks using new timing techniques. I always assumed I was just unlucky since every time I buy a stock it is down the next day. However the author puts it best when he says " If you follow the herd you get slaughtered with it". The market makers are aware of common techniques used by individual traders and trade against them , so by using the new techniques in the book , your move is not obvious. The chapters in this section of the book offer a wealth of ideas. I will go into brief detail. One chapter shows how using strength combined with sentiment can result in short term profits. These concepts are then combined with short squeezes and earning squeezes for explosive profits. Another chapter discusses unique combinations of technical indicators, to recognize accumulation by smart money and get in before the price move. A third chapter is written for long term holders and shows how using convergence /divergence charts drawn once a week can pin point long term reversals. This chapter was very useful to evaluate my long term holdings. A special chapter discusses common profitable situations that arise in the market and how to use the concepts in the book to profit from them . This chapter gets your creative thinking flowing to think of even other setups.
The author explains all the indicators used clearly and backs his techniques with many real life examples which made it easy for me as a beginner to be able to implement the concepts within a couple of months
While the author does not dedicate a specific chapter to risk, he does pay attention to risk in relation to the concepts and techniques he recommends . In many areas of the book ideas are given on how to reduce risk . Just to mention a few :,Quote" even though we are still better off than buying the stock outright, our objective is to control risk as much as possible ...." End Quote . Also Quote " I would recommend that you only bet 2 % of the value of your trading account on any one position such as this..." End Quote. Also the statement , Quote " To reduce risk, one possible option will be to take half a position before and the other after earnings. In this case..." End Quote . and many more.
The author does not discuss margin requirements in detail which I think will be a waste of space since each broker has their own rules , he does say Quote" When selling a put option, the broker requires a certain amount of margin cash in your account to be able to buy the shares if the option is exercised .. Please be advised that different brokers have varied requirements; hence I would recommend you contact your broker to find their specific terms" End Quote
With conflicting reviews on most financial books it is not an easy task do distinguish between useful and no so useful books. I asked myself, what have I done with books that were helpful for a short period of time or not helpful at all? Answer: I sold them as used books on the amazon market place. Bingo.. So I always check whether a financial or educational book has a lot of used copies for sale. If there is , I avoid the book and this criteria has worked well for me. With this book you can rarely find a used copy ,Draw your own conclusions!
