Customer Reviews:
Fans finally see how A&C Meet Frankenstein is created........2003-04-12
For years. The fans of Abbott & Costello wanted to find out how their most famous film parody of horror movies"Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein!"came about.A few books have come to light in recent years:"Movie Comedy Teams"by Leonard Maltin,"The Abbott & Costello Book"By Jim Mullholland and:"Abbott & Costello In Hollywood!"by Ron Palumbo & Bob Furnemack.Now..As a companion to These three manuscripts is the paperback edition of the film's script.Film historian Phil Riley has found an early draft of the script that shows us all scenes and dialogue that never appeared in the final release print:"Oh Oh! And Up Pops The Devil","You're not going to leave me with all of this work"."You're not suppose to throw away all of that fat wasite".etc in terms of the film's dialogue. There is one scene that was never used in the film and sadly. It prohibieted Poor Lou from using his improvational skills as a true movie clown. The scene has "Dracula"(Bela Lugosi)using his hyponotic powers to lure poor"Wilber Brown"(Costello)back into the castle for the brain transplaint.Lou keeps trying to run away. But the power of the evil vampire's spell is so strong that he is constantly being pulled back into the castle via the cave entrance. He finds a rock and sits there."Dracula"(Bela) by now is getting madder than hell! And he says to "Wilber"(Lou)"I Said Come Back!"."Wilber Brown"sits on the rock and says"'No! I'm sitting right here and I'm not going back!".Until both Lou and the rock are zipped back into the cave and into the evil clutches of "Dracula"(Bele Lugosi) and "Dr.Sandra Morney"(Lenore Aubert). The book also shows some photos from the film and some wonderful behind the scenes candid pictures from the cast members, the film's director(Charlie Barton),The film's producer(Bob Arthur)and Dialogue Director(Norman Abbott..Bud's newphew)and the members of the Abbott & Costello families. There are also some thoughts about the making of the film from the team's family members and the true story of how this classic parody was conceived and filmed by the book's author:Mr.Riley.For fans of horror movies and for fans of classic comedy movies. This is one book to have in your collection.Bravo Phil! Kevin S.Butler.
Magicimage Filmbooks Presents Abbott and Costello Meet Frank.......2001-08-04
This is a great treasure for Abbott and Costello fans as well as Chaney, Lugosi, or Universal fans. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book. The script is still titled "The Brain of Frankenstein" and includes deleted scenes which further add to the story. As someone who has seen the film many times the added info gives new insights as to the characters performances.

An In-depth look at a Universal classic.......2007-01-17
Just got my copy today, and wow, what a gem. The pictures, the behind-the-scenes stories and the script are all wonderful. Goes into details about each of the cast members and has tons of pictures, many of them i've never seen before! Included at the end is a "press book" originally given out at the theaters when the film was first released. Learn the fascinating facts behind the "lost" scenes in which the Frankenstein monster was supposed to SPEAK! Screenwriter Curt Siodmak was a true legend and his contribution to the Wolf Man and Universal's legacy is un-matched. Did you know Curt wrote the famous poem for the Wolf Man "...even a man who is pure at heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the Wolf Bane blooms, and the Autumn moon is bright". Anyone who loves classic horror will love this book. Filled with fascinating facts, photos and much more...a real treat!
The Monster speaks again..... at last!!!.......2004-11-05
FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN is best remembered today not only because it is the first of its genre (the crossover, still utilized today with films such as Alien Vs. Predator and Freddy Vs. Jason), but also because of a peculiar and maddening bit of editing: As originally shot, the Frankenstein Monster (as played by Bela Lugosi) was to be portrayed here as a weak, blind creature speaking eloquent dialogue (in Ygor's voice), the result of a clever plot twist from the previous feature, THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN.
Within this book is the true reason why Lugosi's lines were deleted, as well as some interesting behind-the-scenes information, extremely rare stills (particularly of the deleted scenes), cast bios, the pressbook, and Curt Siodmak's original shooting script, which includes the Monster's long-sought dialogue in its entirety!
A source of lasting enjoyment for all Classic Universal Monster fans, especially those seeking a "completed" version of FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN. Highly recommended!
Finally an explanation!!.......2002-01-24
It's fantastic that we finally here the dialog of the monster that was cut out of the picture. Bela Lugosi played the monster in the film. Why was it cut out? The explanation makes no sense since Bela voiced the monster in the final scenes of the previous film. It worked then so why not with this film? The hacking of this script ruined this film. It would have been a much better movie if they left the dialog in. It explains so much.
This a great book for those who are fans of the movie and the Universal monsters. In fact, it's a must!
Magicimage Filmbooks presents:Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman.......2001-08-04
Another in the great series of Universal Filmscripts. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book. The background also tells about Lugosi's dialogue being cut out and what some of it was. It also explains the ending and the escape of Massey, Knowles, and Ouspenskaya (which is not shown in the film). It is a shame that production of these filmscripts didn't cover ALL of the Universal Horror Movies because of the detailed background of each.

Book Description
The Monster and the Magician, a rare 1826 French play by master fantasist Charles Nodier (with Antoine Beraud and Jean Toussaint Merle) revisits the legend of Frankenstein, recasting the legendary scientist as a sorcerer and his Monster as a mute killer from Hell.
The Hunchback of Notre-Dame was adapted by Pauyl Foucher and Paul Meurice and rewritten by Victor Hugo himself into a stage play that throws new light on the classic tragedy.
These two never-before-translated masterpieces are supplemented by The Passion of Frankenstein, an all-new story by translator Frank J. Morlock (Lord Ruthven), in which the Frankenstein Monster travels back in time to save Quasimodo, but does not count on the intervention of - Dracula!

Much more than music.......2007-03-29
Even if you are unfamiliar with the work of Per Nørgård (probably the greatest living composer of today), this book has much to offer. It is the portrait of an artist and his role in society, as well as a study of the amazing workmanship that goes into Nørgård's inimitable art, but, above all, and possibly more important than any of these, it is a portrait of a paragon of the human spirit; someone that could teach us a thing or two and cause one to reevaluate oneself and their relation to the world... if only we would listen in.
A varied set of topics and perspectives that greatly increases appreciation of his music.......2006-04-13
THE MUSIC OF PER NORGARD: Fourteen Interpretative Essays, edited by Anders Beyer, contains various perspectives on the great Danish composer and his work by Danish and English scholars. Released in 1996, it covers his early work, the "infinity series" music, the Wolfli period, though regrettably it came to early to examine his recent and exciting works as the sixth symphony and the second violin concerto.
The volume contains several highly enlightening musicological essays. "Beyond Infinity" by Erling Kullberg, by far the most useful essay here, is an exhaustive introduction to the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic infinity series and how they are tied together in Norgard's work. Having read this, I'm finally able to appreciate the third symphony. Ivan Hansen's "Waves, Hierarchies, Interferences" explores Norgard's percussion music, including its use of the infinity series, "Sun and Moon" music, and the "music of interference" that Norgard embarked upon in around 1985. There are also essays about Norgard's organ music (written by organist Jens E. Christensen), operas (Jens Brincker), and choral works (Jean Christensen).
Other essays are about Norgard's general aesthetic. The first of these is Jorgen I. Jensen's "The Great Change: Per Norgard and Adolf Wolfli" which recounts Norgard's turn from the infinity series to a schizoid style inspired by the mad Swiss artist who composed his works in a Bern asylum. Jensen was with Norgard on October 9, 1979 when the composer encountered Wolfli's art for the first time at a Danish exhibit, and offers an intimate portrayal of how Norgard's entire approach changed, along with a short biography of Wolfli. Regrettably, there is no musicological analysis of the major Wolfli-period works here (the fourth symphony, "Wie ein Kind", and "The Divine Circus"), just general musings. "Connections and Interspaces" by Karl Aage Rasmussen and "Art and Truth: Per Norgard and Martin Heidegger" by Svend Hvidtfelt Nielsen concern some of the metaphysical concerns of his music, as does "In Search of the Spirit", Stephen Johnson's dialogue with Norgard.
Poul Ruder's "Mind the Gap!" is a "colleague's personal view" of Norgard's work, with some interesting points on the spirituality of his music. The last essay is a contribution from Norgard himself. "Early Worlds" is a series of touch reminisces on his childhood and the formative experiences that led to his career in composition.
The typesetting is excellent, and all musical notation is properly engraved, so one doesn't have to fear undecipherable hand-written scores. While quite a lot has been written about Norgard's work--the composer himself has been quite prolific in explaining his philosophy--most of this has been in Danish and there were few resources for the English-language audience. This collection is really an essential purchase for the English-speaking fan of Norgard.

The Witches of Winged-Horse Mountain (The Adventures of Beatrice Bailey).......2006-03-25
this book is amazing
it is great for kids of all ages just like the other ones in the series.
i definatly recommend it.
i couldnt put it down
Good, but predictable..........2004-07-27
This book is quite good. I liked the plot to some extent--it was very predictable. Balto was a really interesting addition. The name implies that there would be a lot of horses and there really aren't that many. It was kind of disappointing, with me being a horse person. You don't really have to read the other ones to figure out their position and whats happening and everything. Overall, I rate this book 4 stars.
The Witches of Winged-Horse Mountain.......2004-06-30
This is the greatest book! I just couldn't put the book down. This book makes Beatrice Bailey a character to die for. I loved the plot of this book and once again Sandra Forrester displays characters so well. If you haven't read this book, you must!! Learn of new characters, meet old, new relationships form between characters, read through an enchancing plot and go on a wild adventure to Winged-Horse Ranch to read as Beatrice Bailey pulls it off again!

A great book.......2000-07-09
I am a 7th grader from Seaford NY, and I read this book last year in 6th grade for a book report. I thought this book was good for motivatoin, and it was inspirational. I would seriously and like command you to read this book, it is great!!!
If you like Dragons, this book is for you. I would have read this book 100 times if I could but im so caught up in my other books. I think that this is a good story about how a young boy Eddie struggles through life, with a little voice never to be heard. This book is one of my favorites and i would appreciate you all reading it!!!!!
This book is good for those who like dragons........1999-04-29
This kind of book is for people that are into fantasy. It is not a total fantasy but if you read it I know you would think a dragon can't come to life. But can it come to life in your mind? That is what the author is trying to say. You may not believe something until it happens to you. Eddie didn't know the dragon was real, or probably didn't even think about it 'til it happened to him. I thought this book wasn't really a fantasy, but in another way a total fantasy. In the end, you don't know what's going to happen with Eddie or the dragon. In another way you know that Eddie will win the contest and he will become a psychologist. I enjoyed reading this book, but I don't like how Darrin gets away with hurting Eddie. 'Good thing he has a friend like Gary. I'm glad Gary sticks up for Eddie so Darrin can't beat him up. I give this book three stars because it was a good fantasy but not a great one.
Wonderful for People who Like Fantasy and Mystery Books.......1998-10-18
Eddie's Blue-Winged Dragon By C.S. Adler Eddie's problem started when Darrin, a bully, took his money. He had collected this money to buy a present for Mina, his little sister. Her birthday was coming up.
His best friend, Gary, gave him a blue winged dragon to give to Mina in her birthday. Eddie gave it to her, but she said she was afraid of it. So she gave it back.
Eddie had dreamed too many times with the dragon, so he thought it had magic. Gary said it wasn't truth. The dragon caused a lot of trouble, Although, somehow, it helped Eddie a little.
I like the description of this book. Why? Because you can easily find the picture in your mind. Example: "That day had started as the most exciting in Eddie's life, he had transferred to a third grade class in a regular school after spending years going to school in the center of disabled. He was finally getting a chance to be a regular kid."
This is a very good book and really enjoyable. It has great description. If you like fantasy and mystery books this is a book to read. Eddie's Blue-Winged Dragon is a good book, although I think The Gentlemen Outlaw and Me-Eli by Mary Downing Hahn is better because it has even better description and it has more mystery.

I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend, and couldn't be happier with it. My daughter loves cats, and sometimes likes to pretend to BE one of our 5 cats... so she really became involved in this book's mystical and ethical story. I love the illustrations and especially appreciate the artistic style - nicely situated between western and Egyptian. The decodable heiroglyphics is truly an inspiration. I was having trouble getting my little girl to respond to phonics (I am home schooling her), but after treating the heiroglyphics as just plain FUN, she took to the phonics with an attitude of fun as well. Lattimore makes her story both informative and fun.
Original Tale of Ancient Egypt.......2000-11-27
The reason I like this book is the beautiful illustrations of Egyptian hieroglyphics and the different gods of the Egyptian pantheon. Ms. Lattimore usesthe correct historical terms while telling a good story. I use this story every year in my classroom as one tool to enrich my students' knowledge of ancient Egyptian culture. Each page is a learning experience for my sixth graders as they identify the different parts of the illustrations and its relationship to story. The Afterword gives details about Ancient Egypt.
For Parents and Children Fascinated by Ancient Egypt.......2000-10-24
My kindergarten age child is burning with passion for anythingabout ancient Egypt. We enjoyed this story immensely and have read itmany times. Each time, we discover new meanings in the detailedillustrations and decodable hieroglyphics....
The story and picturesbring many elements of Egytian mythology alive in ways thatnon-fiction can't. My son and I have read lots of recent non-fictionabout Ancient Egypt. From our other reading it seems to me that, inThe Winged Cat, mythical story elements hew closely to what is knownabout Ancient Egyptian theology. END
Book Description
As the cycle of change increases its speed, leadership communication is becoming more important than ever. Since the original publication of Leading Out Loud in 1995, the development of a leader's message has become as critical to success as the delivery of that message. In this new and revised edition of his highly praised work, Terry Pearce explains how the events of recent years, including the information revolution, worldwide focus on terrorism, and the revelation of corporate scandals, have significantly increased the importance of authenticity in leadership to build loyalty in organizations.
This new edition focuses on the source of a message for change, its development as a platform for leadership communication, and its many forms of expression from speeches to e-mails, memos, and even informal "water cooler" conversation. Pearce shows leaders in business, politics, and nonprofits how to communicate their values and vision to inspire commitment; he provides tools and examples from well-known leaders as well as less-known but effective change agents. Leading Out Loud gives readers concrete methods for improving their own communication by guiding them to do the internal work necessary for creating an honest and compelling vision, and by demonstrating how readers can find their authentic voice and articulate their messages with confidence.
People make commitments, says Pearce, to causes they value and to people they respect and trust. An authentic voice and an inclusive perspective are requisites for any leader who would inspire change. Trust is built by communicating from both the mind and the heart, speaking directly to the minds and hearts of others, listening to their response, and respecting their points of view. All leaders will benefit from Pearce's wisdom, as will anyone else who wants to inspire positive change through others.

Solid advice on communicating.......2006-02-21
A speaker may be able to wow an audience with technique and entertainment, but if everyone walks out the door unchanged, than the speaker is not a leader. The speaker who truly engages an audience and makes them think about themselves, their roles, their company or their country is rare indeed. To engage an audience on this level, you must have true conviction in what you say. At the heart of leadership is the ability to tap your own values and experiences and communicate them to others. Audiences today have grown much more cynical. They can detect falsehood from the back of the hall. Authenticity is the only thing that will reach them anymore. Terry Pearce has the following advice for people who need to improve speaking skills, and communicate effectively as leaders.
· Discover what matters to you. Uncover your values. Make sure that you don't say anything in your speech that contradicts your core values.
· Create a structure for your speech with a beginning, middle and end.
· Use data effectively. Whenever possible, use specific information rather than talking generally. Use examples.
· Use your personal experiences to connect with your audience.
The Great Communicator Won't Have Anything on You .......2005-12-28
The second edition of Pearce's book provides both insight and practical advice for persons who want to lead and inspire change. Organized in two parts, the book begins with an examination of leadership and a path for developing a "message platform for change," and it concludes with advice on how to communicate the message effectively. As Pearce says, "in the process of change, communication is what fuels progress toward the new state." Whether you are leading a family, a business or seeking political office, this book will help you connect to the power of your voice as a tool in the process of change.
Thank God this was only 150 short pages.......2005-05-23
I feel really bad for those poor students of Mr. Pearce who don't drop out of his class the first week.
This is the first book on public speaking that I've read where I honestly haven't taken anything from this book, and I've read about five. He talks about all of the mechanics of public speaking, but something big is missing from this book. Also, leadership via public speaking, which seems to be the titular topic of this book, is missing from the pages.
Mr. Pearce reminds me of one of my statistics professors. This professor, which I'll call Mr. Banal, was a very smart person, had studied a lot, was up on the current statistics methodologies, and was a nice person. However, Mr. Banal's lecture consisted almost entirely of an analysis of what he thought of the textbook. Mr. Banal always had some new "insight"--which usually amounted to a very minor disagreement that he had with the author of the text. He talked about this minor disagreement for the entire lecture hour. I think that doing this allowed him to feel good about himself, because he was proving to the students that he was smarter than the author of the text.
This was really confusing to me. Who should I believe, Mr. Banal or the author of the statistics text? The author seemed a lot more interesting (which is funny considering the subject), but Mr. Banal was the one who ultimately would be testing me.
This is what Mr. Pearce does in his book. He is constantly rewriting speeches of others into a "better speech." A really funny example of this occurs during the end of the book, where he's quoting Anita Roddick, managing director of The Body Shop International. Roddick is an excellent public speaker, and he quotes often from one of her speeches, which is probably the most interesting part of the book. Toward the end, Mr. Pearce cherry picks a paragraph from her speech and reworks it. The initial paragraph wasn't all that bad, but Mr. Pearce's "improved" version of it was terrible.
This is the same kind of difference between a sports commentator and an avid fan. The sports commentator will describe the athlete, what the athlete did during the performance, and trace the effects of the athlete's performance. This is very complex and requires a lot of skill.
The avid fan will say things like, "I would have done this...I would have done that." This requires very little skill at all.
Mr. Pearce is the avid fan, telling us what he would have done, rather than actually doing anything himself.
It kind of seems like Mr. Pearce was writing this book for the dean of UC-Berkeley, rather than for the public.
Insightful!.......2004-06-08
Business coach Terry Pearce teaches you how to put the personal perspective back into your professional communications. With a credible and authoritative voice, he explains how authentic human connection is missing from today's communications, even though people crave it, especially as they evaluate who they trust to lead them through rapid change. He maintains that leaders who communicate authentically and passionately will inspire loyalty and make their mark. While Pearce is clearly convinced about the importance of inspiring your constituents, the pace of his book won't exactly move your spirit. He walks you slowly and carefully through the discipline he uses to help clients rediscover their authentic voices and craft messages that resonate. His corporate and political client list is quite select, but we find his communication strategies relevant for anyone who is leading change - whether you are building a small community or a large company.
