Awesome.......2007-03-20
All of Bruce Hershenon's books are worth a dozen times what he sells them for; flawless, stunning reproductions of great movie posters. Buy them ALL!
The one star setback is the tininess of the lobby cards; they deserved better treatment.
alternate use?.......2003-07-20
I used this book for a slightly different use: I cut out the pictures to use for decoupaging a table. It served its purpose excellently as the pictures were just the right size. My one complaint is that there were too many instances in which the same movie had quite a few posters, each one looking just barely different.
Nicely done book.......2003-02-07
I guess the other reviewer has no concept of art, or probably has no idea these posters are worth thousands of dollars each, at least. If you don't believe me, check out the author's background, as he used to run Christies auctions, as well as his own eBay auctions, to the tune of a lot of money since 1989. So, if you're a movie buff, have an appreciation for this art, and can afford it, then great! If not, go whine somewhere else!
Maybe not a good idea!.......2001-09-04
A collection of movie posters for the well-remembered science
fiction films of 1950 - 1964? And sets of lobby cards to
sweeten the pot? Well, the problem is that most of the
science fiction films from this period were ultra-low budget,
which translates as to "no money for art for posters," and
"no colorizing of stills used as lobby cards." And that
translates further to, "of very little visual interest."
Not that there are not some good posters, but the good ones
are all familiar. THE THING (7) features giant letters carved
apparently out of gobbets of raw flesh! INVASION OF THE BODY
SNATCHERS (38) features tiny images of running pairs of
people on a half-red, half-yellow background with a
superimposed hand print. The beautifully painted poster for
ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN is not only a fine portrait of the
sultry Allison Hayes, but depicts the largest "squirrel shot"
in the history of urban civilization! But you've seen 'em.
There is so little of real interest here that you'll find
yourself killing time by counting the number of posters that
feature monsters or robots carrying girls in a scandalous state
of undress. Having done that you may find yourself reduced
to looking for posters in which the monsters or robots carry
(or sort of brandish!) boys and adult males (all fully clothed,
I am happy to say).
If none of this sounds appealing, I suggest you save your money,
and I wish that I had.
Book Description
Accessible, fun, and colorful world of snarling gangsters, fire-breathing lizards, and animated dreams full of humor and wonder. While high-art Japanese cinema has been documented and analyzed in the West, popular and cult Japanese movies have remained largely unexplored. The fantastic vintage posters that drew the masses to Kurosawa's samurai flicks, Godzilla, and sexy Pink movies are now available to US audiences. Featuring genre classics and funky retro designs, as well as Anime, Sci-Fi and New Cinema, Japanse Movie Posters also offers irreverent commentary by poster and movie experts, as well as plenty of swords, guns, tattoos, geishas, ghosts, rubber monster suits, cartoon robots, samurais and sirens.

Beautiful classic posters in a SUPER format!.......2003-03-14
If you buy one book on Japanese cinema this year, this is it. They have done a terrific job of laying out the history of Japanese film in poster format, in correct color no less, with
a lot of useful information for the Japanese film buff, and collector since many of the posters are available to order right from this publication. My only comment is when will their next
book be issued? Enjoy!
Wonderfully Wacky Posters -- Nothing Like It!!.......2003-02-21
I discovered this new book put out by Tokyo-based DH Publishing by accident. And am glad I did. Chock full of full-page full-color posters of the most wonderfully wackiest of Japan's classic movie posters. There's everything from Horror and Monster to Samurai and Ninja, Pink (what they call soft porn) to Anime, and even some new posters thrown in. My best is easily the Sci-Fi genre, which includes the ultimate Ultraman. Also, you gotta check out some of the Monster posters, like Godzilla and some huge Ice Man creature. I bought two of these, as I knew it would make that perfect present when you've run out of ideas what to buy someone. DH Publishing arigato! I'm going to check out their other books. I hope they're as good!
An unforgettable slice of Japanese popular culture.......2002-12-15
Japanese Movie Posters: Yakuza, Monster, Pink And Horror is an eye-opening, full-color presentation of movie posters representational of the best and the worst of Japan's cinema. From lurid and graphic horror to yakuza movies to posters of Hayao Miyazaki's wondrous words of animation, Japanese Movie Posters offers an unforgettable slice of Japanese popular culture in the twentieth century. Brief yet erudite and scholarly commentaries by Chuck Stephens (contributing editor to "Film Comment", a columnist for "Kinema Junpo, and a freelance specialist in Asian cinema for publications worldwide), Tetsuya Masuda (vintage poster expert and head of the cinema section of wonder antiquarian books), and Kairakutei Black (a Japanese film critic and traditional "rakugo" comic storyteller) offer informed and informative insights into the psychology and media background of the individual posters round out this impressive collection. A unique compendium of cinematic poster art, Japanese Movie Posters is a welcome and highly recommended addition to any personal or academic Cinematic Studies reference collection.

A nice collection of 46 classic movie poster reproductions.......2003-03-30
"Science-Fiction and Horror Movie Posters in Full Color" presents full-color posters for 46 films including "King Kong," "Godzilla," "The Illustrated Man," "One Million B.C.," and "Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman." There is something to be said for the era of movie posters that featured bug-eyed monsters and scantily clad women and Alan Adler's collection presents some of the choice examples of such works of pop art. Any collection that includes both Raquel Welch and Allison Hayes knows what it is doing as far as I am concerned. This book is slightly oversized so these are still mini-posters, but this is not a bad deal for aficionados of the genre and an easy way to adorn your classroom or dorm room with some classic movie posters.

From the first few pages of LON CHANEY SR POSTERS you wont be able to put it down. The photo of Dracula and Frankenstein are worth the price of the whole book. The Thing half sheet, Or The fly six sheet would make any one want one in there collection. Book goes all the way up to the movie Scream. You cant go wrong
An essential addition to every horror fan's library.......1999-11-17
Horror Movie Posters is at once a beautiful book to browse and a fascinating chronicle of advertising art through the decades. Just a cursory look reveals how the graphic art evolved, from the incredible stone-lithography of the golden age (silents to late '30s) through the more garish '50s style to the photo-based designs so common today. As a collector of movie memorabilia, I have found this entire series an invaluable resource; one needn't be a collector to enjoy these books, however. Any film aficionado will treasure this volume. Highly recommended!
Superb, Extraordinary Quality On Every Level.......1999-11-15
This review can easily apply to any of the books in the Bruce Hershenson edited series of film poster history. Hershenson rightly treats film graphics not just as pop culture artifacts but true works of art. His books are filled with a curator's eye for superior choice and reproduction, each poster in striking color and with a clarity of printing that rivals most any coffee table art book. Somewhere between advertising and illustration, film posters, like book jackets and record covers, inhabit that imaginative and atmospheric zone where one art reflects another. It's not just the history of film or the history of film design, it's a history of twentieth century Saturday afternoons and Saturday nights. How often we would go into the dark theatre armed only with the ideas and ideals of the posters outside, and then return to them afterward, perhaps with nodding affirmation or smirking disillusionment, but still a vision of what could be. This series of books should be subtitiled: THE FINE ART OF ANTICIPATION, for no matter if expectation was filled or emptied by the films behind them, their posters kept on shining.
Best series on movie posters ever printed!.......1999-11-08
For lovers of film, film history, and specifically, poster art, Bruce Hershenson's series of full-color books is the cream of the crop! And, the quality of printing and photography is superb, with razor sharp images and vibrant colors.
It is a chrongological look at horror movie posters........1999-06-04
Horror Movie Posters shows photographs of 306 movie posters in chronological order. All are in color, and very clear. The ones that are more detailed are larger. It's a picture book, meaning the author does analyze the posters. He lets the visual content speaks for itself.
It is very intriguing to see some posters from movies before my time. It's funny to see that the movie picture industry treated horror movie posters in a somber mood in the early days, and then moved to "silly" posters in the 50s. Now in the 90s, after having viewed some of the horror movies, the poster is the scariest thing.
If you are really into movies, I think this would be a really cool book to own.

A fair grouping.......2003-02-26
I was hoping for larger photos, maybe even larger pages, but there is a fine representation of movie posters in this book.
More please!.......2003-01-25
Being a fan of the B grade movies that get shown in the annual Incredibly Strange Film Festival, this book was an obvious purchase and I wasn't disappointed. There is a feast of all that's good and bad about these movie genres. The reproduction is superb and the selection thoughtful. My only criticism is that there is no logic and probably only the author's personal preference as to how big or small each poster gets presented - on some pages there is only one poster, on others there are 5 - I would have preferred one per page, but I guess that would have more than doubled the price. I only hope that there will be a second volume soon!
Evocative Movie Posters.......2000-12-05
Bruce Hershenson has managed over several books to enlighten many of us who are involvred in collecting movie posters. From his Crime Movie Posters, Horror Movie Posters,Academy award winners and a whole rope let alone string in his ever increasing catalogue we are able to gain great reference for the discerning collector. Also for those who perhaps cannot afford to invest into some great titles Hershenson has enabled those with a tight budget to appreciate the poster art from the twentieth century at a very reasonable cost.
The content is laid out in a similar fashion to his previous books starting with early titles from the silent era, Homer's Odyssey 1909 right up to 1999's Sleepy Hollow, covering a multitude of titles, actors and actresses and subjects all coming under the heading of Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Such recognisable titles as Dracula, Batman and Raiders of the Lost Ark to lesser known titles such as Phantom From Space and The Green Pastures with an image to cover each year.
The quality is very high with great colour on all the pages and at such a reasonable price this is truly a bargain, for a collector, a fan, a movie buff or just someone who likes to sit and watch a late night movie this is an excellent buy.
Perhaps the only critcism for any of these books is the lack of text on the artists that produced the great artwork. A history on the film is all well and good and has probably been produced elsewhere, even if it is in Halliwell's but for the poster the artist is the all important person. It would be nice to know to whom the credit should go for such evocative art work. An impossible task perhaps, although if there were only a dozen images explained then this and all of Bruce Hershenson's book's would receive 5 stars and two thumbs up.

EZ Edition, NOT the full guitar parts.......2007-06-27
The low review is as much for false advertising as it is anything else. This is actually decent EZ guitar edition of some nice Sheryl Crow songs, but it IS easy, and its NOT marked as such. While it includes simple and sometimes accurate main riffs and a few licks to songs like "Strong Enough" and "Favorite Mistake", it totally ignores the solos and doesn't even give the real riffs to some (such as "If it Makes You Happy"). On top of that, it wastes a lot of space converting the vocal lines to guitar tab. I got it used for $3.93, so it would cost me that much in shipping to send it back. Otherwise I would. Don't get me wrong,if you are a beginning guitarist (like the previous reviewer) and can get it cheap, this might be for you, BUT IT IS AN EASY-GUITAR VERSIONS TYPE BOOK and should be advertised as such. If you are a more experienced guitarist who is trying to get the nuances and difficult bits of Crow's music, save up for the "Very Best of Sheryl Crow" book, which has nearly all the same songs and then some. Its what I'm going to do.
A must for Sheryl Crow fans!.......2002-10-02
I have recently taken up guitar so I was thrilled to see that there was an anthology of Sheryl Crow available. I neither look nor sound like her, but thanks to this handy compilation, I am going to give it a try!

Customer Reviews:
Good information.......2005-09-03
This was a very informative book that would provide value to anyone in the business.
Not at all what I expected based on the title........2004-08-31
I have read about a dozen real estate and landlording books so far. Based on the title of this one, I expected some heavy hitting information about Property Management and Landlording. Instead, what I got was a general overview of all of the topics in the table of contents, but no really good in depth material about any of it.
I also didn't like the fact that the first several chapters are about how to decide if you're cut out for this business. I was under the impression that anyone buying a book with this title would already own a property or at least be well under way.
Overall, this is a good SUPER newbie book, but if you've read even one other, don't bother.
Not for beginners.......2004-07-06
This book is good, but the book's content doesn't match the title. This book wasn't written for people who have never owned any piece of property. The book tells you a couple of nice loopholes and hidden fees most first time landlords will get hit hit with out the blue, but that is it! They have whole sections about owning 30 and 40 resident apartment buildings which is something 9 out of 10 people that read this book will not be doing for years. A lot of the advice that they give such as get a lawyer and someone to look at the property before you buy it is common sense. This book also doesn't go into great detail about taxes and how to set the correct rent level like I thought it would. This book is good for a general overview, but that is about it.
I love this book!.......2004-05-23
I have owned rental apartment buildings for some years in suburban Chicago. I heard Mark B. Weiss on radio have seen him on TV as well as seen his name on many investment properties in Chicago. I always felt I could do better as a landlord so I read his book and boy does it hit home! I had to chuckle at parts that are so true to life. Friends often corner me and as me about secrects to success in purchasing and running invetsment properties. I'm going to give them this book as a refrence guide. Landlording is complete with parables, stories, examples and refrences. Anyone and everyone should be able to benifit from this Great Great work.
Don't Buy Unless You're a Broker.......2004-03-01
If you're a big-time broker, this book is for you!
For the rest of us, I just cannot believe how many texts are out here that speak to such a small segment.
Most people who need advice are those of us with only a handful of properties. We need help getting tenants, getting rid of bad tenants, and finding the best properties and locations.
