Filled with readable theology and helpful illustrations and anecdotes Cries From the Cross is a great introduction to the doctrine of the atonement. In this book Dr. Lutzer breaks down Jesus' last seven "cries" into chapters that explain the reason Jesus had to die. It is a short book and very readable, but packed with a smorgasbord of food for thought. I found it a very helpful devotional guide on Good Friday as I thought about the price My Lord paid for my salvation.

Audible Cries.......2005-09-01

A few years ago, a friend invited me to go with him and his family to Snow Mass, Colorado. After one day of snowboarding, a teenager slammed into me and my left shoulder essentially froze to where I couldn't move it. It was the first day of that week, and a few weeks before Easter. I couldn't fly back home because of the added expense, but fortunately, I had brought my Bible as well as "More Than a Carpenter" and "Cries From The Cross". I went through most of the New Testament pretty quickly up to Revelation (and I was already saved at the time), and after I read Josh's book one day, I started on Lutzer's.

I can't tell you what it meant to me. I know that God allowed me to incur a temporary injury that first day which left me in bed while the rest of my friend's family were off on the slopes that week. I had a view of the mountain top, and all I did was read and pray. After they came back and would pass out from fatigue at 9 P.M. each night, I took up where I left off. Until 3-4:00 in the morning.

"Cries From The Cross" was one of the most profound books I've ever read, where I literally felt like I was at the foot of the cross. And again, this was just before Easter, so I do believe that God was intervening on my behalf to get me out of my lukewarm state of mind. Over and over, I could almost hear Jesus from the cross, with His eyes searching me out from the crowd. Wonderful Savior. Max Lucado has written several great books such as "Six Hours One Friday" and "He Chose The Nails". Those are also worthwhile reads. But if you really want to feel moved and feel as if you were there at Calvary...understanding what every word out of Jesus's mouth was truly meaning for all of eternity, this is the book for you.

Another winner from Pastor Lutzer. This book is a mix of inspirational and theological styles. Lutzer attempts to dive into the vastness and profoundness of Jesus' mind, managing to teach us and awe us about the greatness of our Lord. I never imagined how extremely important are those 7 phrases uttered by Jesus while on the cross until now.

This book analyzes each of the 7 phrases Jesus spoke in his dying moments and I challenge you not to be deeply touched with their message and the deep meaning they carry. It will make you better comprehend what Jesus was enduring while on the cross and more importantly why he chose to endure it. Read this book if you want to be overwhelmed by how much God loves us: you will in turn return the favor!

Why not 5 stars? Because I wished it was a little bigger, it will hook you and keep you wanting for more. Full 4 stars.

A true blessing of a book........2003-06-15

I picked up this book about a week ago. The past few weeks have been hard on me and in life in general. My relationship with God was, to say the least, unhinged. There was a lot of disapointment on my part, a lot of that produced because...to be honest...I was letting my will rule me instead of bowing to God's will.

Yet this book helped me get past the depression on so many respects. It is not a book for deep theological study, but it is a comfortable reading that helped me out while studying all the sayings of Christ Jesus on the Cross...

Those sayings are:
*"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" Luke 23:34
*"Today you will be with me in paradise" Luke 23:43
*"Dear woman, here is your son...here is your mother" John 19:26-27
*"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Matthew 27:46
*"I am thirsty" John 19:28
*"It is finished" John 19:30
*"Father, into our hands I commit my spirit" Luke 23:46

How Lutzer explains and examines each of these sayings of our Savior and Lord upon the cross really helped me realize just how much God cares for me and just how much...even if I dont feel worth in this world...on the grand scheme of things...I have humbled worth because Jesus died and rose on the third day for my salvation...so that I may be with the Lord God.

I suggest anyone and everyone to read this book. It will truly help you grow closer to our Lord.

Wise Words and Insightful Commentary.......2003-04-24

I was intrigued by Dr.Lutzer's radio sermons as I scanned the dial while driving...so intrigued, I bought this book. Dr. Lutzer dissects each word of the seven utterances as Christ hung from the cross demonstrating that each one is pregnant with meaning and that these may have been the most important words from Christ in His time on earth. Added are many historical perpsectives and anectdotes that might make the message more palatable to skeptics; to believers it is a reaffirming read and a quick one, too. Highly recommeded.

Cries from the Heart was my first introduction to the writings of Johann Christoph Arnold. Arnold has a deep faith, which probably comes somewhat naturally to him. His father was in ministry and his grandfather began a Christian community that stood up to the Nazi regime and had to flee Germany. By training, Arnold is a pastoral counselor, but in truth he is a more than simply a therapist, he is also a believer. He shares both his ministry and faith in this wonderful book. Arnold talks about the reality of pain in our world and offers stories of people who have had to cope in the midst of great tragedy and loss. His book also offers examples of people who suffer with everyday losses and tragedy. Arnold offers hope to people whose lives have been touched by pain, suffering, and hardship, but the hope he offers is not a feel good sort of hope but the assurance that in even life's most tragic and difficult times, people can live with hope.Arnold's suggestions are both practical and helpful and can easily lead a person to prayer and reflection.

I began to read this book early in 2002, when the priest sex abuse scandal was first rearing its ugly head in Boston. This was a time when many people of faith had more questions than answers. Even those who are not survivors of child sexual abuse felt hurt and betrayed by all that has happened. While this book did not give answers to the crisis, it did highlight the role of faith and belief when facing life's challenges which I found to be very helpful.

This book is one of my favorites by J. Christoph Arnold. The stories are all about real people that suffered extreme pain and heartache. It helped me reflect on the heartaches in my own life that I never thought I would overcome. Christoph Arnold has an uncanny way of reaching people through his books in such a simple and profound way, that he reaches our souls with his words. I have recommended this book to everyone I know!

Patrick's book has helped me in a major way to quit throwing money around the layout, and play in a controlled manner that's still fun -- because I've won 7 of 9 casino visits since! I don't break the bank -- but I don't lose my usual $300-$400 anymore either. This book is far superior to Scoblete's, offering actual inside numbers to play in order to spread numbers around the wheel, excellent suggestions on outside bets, pros and cons of betting systems, regression bets, money management, discipline -- highly recommended for those who see that Scoblete's riff -- "biased" wheels -- is something only those looking for a ridiculous "angle" will believe.

This book is based on "martingale" ? There no wayyou can win with this systeme.

This is one of the most poorlywritten books I have ever read.The system is quite simple and could beexplained clearly in a few pages of charts, but the authors have no idea how to make a clear explanation. It would take a conscious effort to make a simple idea any more confusing than has been done in this book. Unfortunately, the authors make it as difficult to learn as possible.There is a fair amount of information for me, but, again, this information is better-presented in other volumes.

I would strongly recommend that players at all levels go to another book.

Become a winner if you want to.......1999-05-16

Roulette, contrary to popular belief, is a game that offers various opportunities to win despite the house edge of (ugh) at least 5%. There are two reasons for this. One, the number of options for betting open to the customer offer great hedge opportunities and two, it is a streaky game. Furthermore, if you can find a wheel with just one zero (and there are some in both Reno and Vegas), you cut that house edge in half on the outside bets. Learn to beat this game with the Regression system in conjunction with hedges or with the Action-Number system, a system that spreads your money around the entire wheel, giving you the best chance to win. This knowledge alone is great, but it is Patrick's philosophy that is the real meat and potatoes of being competitive. There is simply the most logical approach to beating this game written in this book. There are critcisms that this book is redundant in terms of the philosophy that Mr. Patrick teaches. I have a reply to these silly criticisms. Winning isn't complicated, it's just real hard to do. Get this book and open up another opportunity for yourself to be a winner during your next trip to the casinos.

When it comes to roulette John Patrick is on the money in his advice concerning money management. Although I do not think that this book is the equal of Frank Scoblete's Spin Roulette Gold, I do think he spends a lot of time explaining one of the most important facets of gaming - money management. Worth a read.
