An excellent summary and profound analysis of the techniques and interpretation of movies. I particularly like the authors analysis of Casablanca. In addition, the analysis of Little Big Man is seminal in an understanding of Native American portrayal in contemporary film.

I am a musical theatre student and am performing 2-3 new songs per week. In my quest for music books containing a substantial amount of fantastic music, I struck gold with this one. All of the songs in here have wonderful accompaniment, some simple, some more difficult. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COLLECTION!!!!

I got this book so I could have sheet music for musical auditions. It's a great book to have if you're a musical performer or simply just a lover of Ahrens and Flaherty's tunes and plays (i.e. Once on This Island). It's a great addition to my theatrical and musical archive.

What an Expert Sees/Hears.......2007-03-28
To listen to great music and to enjoy it is one thing. Yet the professional student of classical music sees/hears/understands so much more than the rest of us.
In this book Daniel Felsenfeld, a prolific composer and music writer has written what he sais agimes to give 'the interested but potentially uninitiated listener' the tools he or she needs to lsiten to Tchaikovsky's music and to become more comfortable with classical music overall. This provides an insite that most of us, particularily those of us living in remote areas, can never see.
I never imagined that you could see so much in this music.
The book comes with two full length CDs.

Poor Quality.......2006-12-08
The music itself is magnificent, and I must thank the last reviewer on an excellent post. However the quality of the book is quite poor. The binding is cheap and the pages are very thin and have a newsprint feel making quick page turns difficult. I recommend having the book spiral- bound at an office supply store. For the everyday pianist, the book is great, however the professional ballet accompanist should seek out a higher-quality score.

This is a book I've been looking for for years: the original piano arrangement of the entire Nutcracker Ballet score. The score harbors many delightful pieces that are not included in the ubiquitous Nutcracker Suite, such as the music for the scene around the Christmas tree, Grandfather's Dance, the Pas de Deux, and the Valse Finale. The arrangements are by Taneeff, and revised by the composer. The score has been reprinted from a rare copy in 2005. The piano arrangement is playable for advanced amateur pianists (this is NOT a Nutcracker-made-easy version), and cleverly done: it has the feel of a piano score, not of a reduced orchestra score. (Nutcracker lovers familiar with the Concert version of the ballet music will find slight (and interesting) discrepancies, but the music from the Concert version is all there, albeit in a somewhat different order. The only funny part of the arrangement is that the upper register seems to have been left out in the complex music of the fight between the nutcracker and the mouse king.)

I've been a seventh grade teacher for 10 years and I still enjoy using these books as a resource in my classroom. Students learn the information through attention to detail and find uses for their completed materials in projects throughout the year.
Geography Coloring Book.......2007-09-04
This is an excellent resource for teaching geography. It begins with the globe, goes to continents, then to countries with physical and political maps. The coloring system is easy to follow and produces understanding and retention in the student. We homeschool and would highly recommend this resource for ages 8 and up.
Homeschoolers - pay attention!.......2007-08-29
This is the third week we have been using this to homeschool my 4th and 1st grader. I really have enjoyed using it, I'm not sure who is learning more, my children or me! We started in Europe and have been taking our time coloring each country of the 44 on the continent. It's a great tool for homeschoolers, or any child, of any age, who needs supplemental help in geography.

My Brownie Troop is using this book to prepare for "Thinking Day" - a day Girl Scouts learn about other countries and cultures. The book is full of activities that first graders love - mazes (Istanbul landmarks), color by number (a ceramic plate), hidden pictures (the Dolmabahce Palace), connect the dots (the Blue Mosque), etc. The girls will have a fun time learning about Turkey and it was soooo easy for me, their leader! My daughter can't wait for our "Turkey meeting"!

I was thrilled when I discovered "Exploring Turkey". I think it is really important for children to learn about different places and cultures in the world. Filled with fun activities for children, it is a great introduction to a culture full of so many things. I have used the book as a learning tool during the holidays. Children love it.

This is another example of hearing "the same ole stuff." Can't some author get origional? This was so elementary and certainly not "NEW" information, as the title suggests.
Outstanding insights from a former top assistant!.......2004-07-01
This book has helped so many people! It's perfectly brilliant.
I think it's insane that reviewers are commenting on publisher's type-o's instead of commenting on how significant this book really is. Obviously, Ms. Duncan proofed her own book and after meeting Ms. Duncan at an event, I mentioned the reviews about the errors in the book. Ms. Duncan and her staff has tried desperately for years to demand that the book be reprinted. Some things unfortunately are out of one's hands, and I recognize this after years of being a journalist. Look at the NY Times! And every other book on your shelf! They all have errors!
Ms. Duncan has been instrumental in the salary increases, and gaining recognition for this truly unique role! I recommend this book to anyone in the role or considering it!
Interesting Read.......2000-07-19
I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Duncan's book. I found it an easy read, packed with lots of excellent information.
As with the other reviewer I was extremely disappointed in the skills test in the back of the book. Missing questions, answers to questions that weren't printed.
I wonder if Ms. Duncan has read her own book? Did she review the skills test information in the back before it was published? If the fault lies with the publisher, I hope she got her money back. I also hope she'll do a re-print with the skill test corrected because I found it very helpful in identifying weak areas in my own skill set.
I've been an Executive Secretary/Assistant for the past ten years. Often a good assistant is taken for granted. I appreciated Ms. Duncan's affirmation that my job is more than a job, it's a career and that not just anyone can be a good assistant.
If you can get past all the problems with the skill test in the back of the book, I think you'll find the content extremely interesting, insightful, and motivating.
Talk About Ironic!.......2000-05-11
I just finished reading this book about the "new executive assistant". Of course it emphasizes attention to detail, checking your work, accuracy, etc. Upon completing the extensive skills test in the back of book, I was horrified to find the following blatant errors: 1. In the vocabulary section, the questions skip from #56 to #61, yet in the answer section, these questions do appear. 2. The proofreading section fails to point out periods that are missing at the end of two sentences. Here's the kicker: 3. When I went to check my answers for the spelling section, I discovered that there were only two answers out of 110 questions. To top, there were answers for #110 - 122, which didn't exist in the first place.
OK, can anyone find a proofreader at McGraw Hill to catch these types of errors? How can anyone take this book seriously? The other person who reviewed this book obviously did not read the whole thing. What a disappointment! I do recommend another book that I read. It's called The Valuable Office Professional by Michelle Burke. She is right on the money. There are some more in-depth self-evaluation tests, which go much further than vocabulary and grammar skills. I also got some information about her consulting service, which I am trying to convince management our company needs. That's my summary of this book. Good luck with your administrative careers no matter who you are or where you live!
