Great book.......2007-08-09
I find John Lyon's Bringing up Baby very informative! The pictures do a great job illustrating each lesson. I just purchased a filly, and I want to give her the best life possible. I think by following John's techinques you can't go wrong. His videos are great too!
Sometimes we forget to use common sense when working with horses, and if you pay attention to them and learn to properly communicate, you will find a great new enjoyment with your horses!
baby steps.......2007-06-27
this book is great for illustrating kind, consistent lessons to educate yourself and you young weanling. if you want to establish a good relationship, and have your youngster become willing, accepting and to like you, then buy this book.
Concise, easy to follow, great book!.......2007-06-17
This is a great book for those who need to teach a baby, an ex-racer, or any horse the essential basics. Each lesson begins with a description of that you're going to do and why. There's also a list of needed equipment (all of these lessons are to take place in a round pen or arena with the corners "rounded" off). Step-by-step, Lyons takes you through the lesson, providing a picture with each step and a description of what you are doing. I recommend this book to anyone who needs to teach any horse basic ground manners.
John Lyon's Bringing Up Baby.......2007-05-13
Although the methods do not work 100% on all youngsters, it gives the trainer a base to work fro. From there, common sense and knowing the horse you are working with comes into play
Bringing Up Baby.......2007-02-23
John Lyon's Bringing Up Baby is one of the best manuals for early training. The book is well written and organized. It is easy to use when looking for solutions to training problems and the steps to good solid training for your young horse! Superior book!

Everything's Going to be All Right............2001-03-20
To start off, i happen to be OBSSESSED with Bringing Up Baby. I have the movie at least one hundred times, and can quote the entire script. So, you can imagine how thrilled i was, while browsing the cinema section in my local bookstore, to find an entire book devoted to my favorite movie of time. I immediately devoured it. The book contains the script (which is useful if you miss some of the rapid-fire dialogue in the film), as well as essays and the story the film is based on. i LOVED it. it gave me new incite to the quintessential screwball comedy. i highly recommend it to anyone who loves Bringing up Baby.
Book Description
Parents are faced with hundreds of questions in their child's first years. Breast or bottle? Comfort a 6-month-old child now or let her cry? Allow some TV or none at all? But how meaningful can the answers be when they're offered by someone who doesn't know the parent or the child? Instead of offering answers that apply to "most" families, experienced child-care specialists Claire Lerner and Amy Dombro explain
1. How parents can understand their own parenting style and its effect on their child, 2. How parents can observe their child to understand what she is feeling and thinking, and 3. How to use those observations to make healthy and effective decisions.
With this easy, 3-step approach, parents can learn to become experts on their own child's healthy development.

Bringing Up Baby.......2005-09-13
As an early childhood teacher educator and new gramma I was very excited to find this down to earth but parent sensitive guide to the perplexities of raising babies. The book is very specific about what parents might see and then do with their child as a result of observation. A positive investigative attitude in parents is valued with developmental characteristics of children as the jumping off point. The reader can't miss the authors' respect for parents and their joy in the baby raising task. I'm glad my gandson's parents have this book as a resource to support them. I have to confess that I use some of the examples in my college classes too.
A different sort of child care book.......2005-08-01
Instead of telling how to take care of a baby in general, this book helps you figure out what will work best for the unique combination of you and your child.
The first section helps you take a look at yourself -- your hopes and fears for your child, your own childhood experiences, your personality or temperament, and your limitations. The second section focuses on your child -- how to understand his behavior, what his developmental stage is, and how to figure out what his personality is and what that indicates. The third section puts the two previous sections together and helps you "find your fit." Then the fourth section addresses making parenting decisions with your spouse, and how to resolve differences of approach.
The back of the book has a handy quick-reference chart, set up in columns of "When your child... (does a, b, or c)" "Your child might be saying... (a translation into adult-speak)" "What you can do." Then there is an appendix of common questions and answers.
This is a different way of looking at child-rearing: not by-the-book but recognizing that both you and your child are one of a kind.
Who You Are Is How You Parent.......2005-06-25
This book helps parents take a closer look at who they are and how their personal style and temperament influences the way they parent. The 3 step approach offered in this book helps parents increase self-awareness, gain a better understanding of the cues given by their child, and make parenting decisions that are responsive to the child. I found the authors' examples to be very helpful and often applicable to many different situations. The questions to the reader, offered in each section, tended to interrupt the flow of the book, but are great points of discussion for parents. Overall, this book approaches parenting with a true sense of respect, both for parents and children.
Well Written, Practical, Easy to Understand.......2005-03-22
As a preschool teacher, I am often asked by parents about what books I would recommend for them to read in regards to many different parenting issues. When I came across this book I immediately added it to my list of exceptional books for new parents. It is well written, parent friendly, and full of quality information about developmental issues that occur during a child's first few years. I even purchased a second copy to give to my daughter and her husband who just became parents for the first time. If you are looking for a clear, well written, easily understandable book...this is the one for you!
Thoughtful and insightful!.......2005-02-25
As an early childhood educator, I am always looking for new materials to help educate myself and the families I work with. I found this book to be very helpful because it offers a framework that parents (and other caregivers too) can use to help make wise, thoughtful, and developmentally appropriate descisions about caring for children.
It's very sound advice in an easy to read format.

They say that "babies don't come with instructions."
Well, now they do! With Bringing Up Baby, Sam Martin delivers a witty and charming "how-to"guide that will steer any proud papa through the weird, wild world of pregnancy and fatherhood. Some of the many topics covered and questions answered include:
- What is the difference between a binkie and a bottle?
- The rocker-it's not an old musician with tattoos and long hair
- Breast pumps-they're not sex toys!
It's a good thing pregnancy lasts nine months, because it'll take the new dad that long to learn the ropes-and realize that fatherhood can be maddening, sometimes frightening, and often disgusting, but it's also the best job in the world. Packed with sound advice and time-tested survival tips, Bringing Up Baby is the must-have guide for every new father.

Not So Good.......2007-09-22
We purchased this book as a guide for our new baby and it just wasn't very good. Like most other "Idiot's Guide to" books this book is much too general and not the shelf reference book we were looking for. An example is information on reflux which is something we encountered. The book has about one small paragraph and better information was easily found on the internet.
If you want a great "owners manual" for your new baby there are much better choices out there.
Awesome!.......2007-04-27
If ever there was an owners manual for babies, this has got to be it! I am five months pregnant, and just started reading this book. I am not even done, and I already love it! This book should be handed out by every ObGyn to first time parents!

This book is one of the funniest that I have ever come across! It is not just for Mommies - the concepts are applicable to Daddies, as well. Makes an excellent gift for new parents - all the friends I have given it to love it. This book provides plenty of laughs!
Hilarious!.......2002-05-08
This book is pleasantly insightful! If your baby hasn't already "done it", the time will soon come!! It's a definite reminder of how fun motherhood truly is! You realize that the your baby's actions are very normal and actually pretty funny! If you happen to be having a bad day, this is the book to pick up!

Bringing Up Babies by Emma Goldrick (Large Print Harlequin).......2006-05-25
Description from the book back cover:
After a series of romantic disasters, Hope Latimore had decided to take the job arranged by her father. Only he had lied on two counts. 1) Her charges, Melody and Eddie, were far from being babies. 2) He hadn't told her that her new boss was Ralph Browne - the man who had made her high school days hell! But Hope couldn't leave Melody and Eddie with a bachelor dad. Sexy Ralph may be, but he clearly knew less than Hope about bringing up kids!
BABY BOOM - where two is company and three (or four ... or five) is a family!
The Latimore Series.......1998-07-09
Bringing Up Babies is the story of Hope Latimore (the "baby" of the Latimore family) and Ralph Browne. Having been pampered her whole life, Hope has floated from one job to another, until an old schoolmate needs a nanny for his niece and nephew. It is a delightful story with a lot of cute scenes. (Other Latimore books include Tempted By Fire, Faith Hope and Marriage, Latimore Bride)

Customer Reviews:
Not What I Expected.......2007-07-21
As an experienced gourd artist, I admit I was tempted by the cover illustration - and should have resisted. While there are excellent pictorial offerings of work by artists I've actually had classes from, there were no instructions for those particular pieces. Of the instructions given, nearly two-thirds involved tole or one-stroke painting, which is NOT what I was looking for (nor particularly versed in) at all. In addition, even the instructions given left a good bit to be desired, assuming that everyone understands the tools and terminology used, and the finished products of these pieces looked very "beginner-ish". Granted there was helpful information, but none that I don't already have from other, much more useful, sources. This would NOT be my pick for someone interested in TRUE gourd art, nor for a beginner, unless you're visually adept and can replicate a process simply by looking at the finished product. Thank goodness I decided to take advantage of the "buy both books/save money" offer when shopping for this one - the other book [Beyond the Basics: Gourd Art (McFarlane)] is worth its weight in gourds!!
Creating beautiful craft's.......2007-06-11
Very easy to understand. Outstanding for identifying the many different gourds and easy instructions on creating beautiful craft's

A little short.......2007-05-09
This book aims at making corporate and marketing directors to realize that we have entered a culture of images and videos. It covers well some of the consequences of this mutation from writing to visual. Admittedly, lots of situation are covered to advocate for anticipating actions in the image civilization, and suggestions are made on how to do it. As a matter of fact, the discoveries of Neuro-sciences including Neuro-marketing (not covered in the book) explain why this phenomenum does happen. At a practical level, the successes of MySpace and YouTube (after the not so recent development of TV ads) should be sufficient evidence.
The book however does not refer to the problems linked to the daily use of images by the professional world (mainly the necessity to index them for database treatment or simply for searching, filing and handling). Machines do not know how to recognize if there is a blond guy on a picture in the middle of several other individuals, when they can do this selection with texts. There is a huge amount of research going on to solve such complex problems which have more consequences than it seems and the author simply does not even touches these aspects. Amazon's mechanical turk was created precisely for such reasons. Some scientists try to use the sound track of videos to that effect... This book totally misses these issues.
In brief a great topic properly advocated but imperfectly analyzed and not exhaustively covered. Reality doesn't need to be advocated, it lands by itself ; virtue for books (which are in depth studies) lays in detailed solutions and this book comes short on this.
A very important book!.......2005-04-21
This is a book that perfectly captures the convergence that is going on between technology, photography and communication. It is a must read for any person ready to improve efficiency and profitability in their workplace and their life. The case studies cover businesses of all shapes and sizes, so its easy to see how to make the strategy fit. A big thanks to Gerard and Goldstein for this very important book.
An inspiration.......2005-03-12
Going Visual really inspired me, as an entrepreneur. I'm sure like most people I had no idea of the possibilities held within a simple digital camera. Reading this book opened a new world of possibilities. I don't go anywhere without a camera now.
