When I first saw "The Hollywood Walk of Fame" book I couldn't believe my eyes. What a beautiful book and with such valuable information about the stars on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame".
As one of the starpolishers (our fan club adopted Julio Iglesias's star) I was so excited to read more about the stars surrounding Julio's star - John Barrymore, Irving Thalberg, John Chambers, and Lily Pons. We clean all the above mentioned stars as well as Natalie Woods'star. I definitely will let our members know about this excellent book.

This Book is filled with interesting, well written biographies. The Author, SAMANTHA HART, has certainly done her research. It's a great gift for anyone interested in movies and the entertainment industry. The images of all the artists who have stars on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame are a treasure. Quite inspiring.

Clarifies this Enigmatic symphonist.......2000-09-08
Shame this is out of print. Simpson was annotator,promoter at The BBC. He is a composer himself of large scale symphonies.
Bruckner has long been an enigmatic creator, a late bloomer,spending years in pedagogical subjection of counterpoint.And his oefish,awkward demeanor gave a false impression to those who surrounded him,usually less talented unclairvoyant scholars who sought the necessity to revise his symphonies. Simpson here scours these giant symphonic boulders one by one,revealing where a great rupture takes place,where Bruckner's symphonic vision begins to look outward,beginning with the Fifth Symphony. Although the D-minor Third begins this transmogrification of vision. Bruckner looked well beyond the shadow of Beethoven,not utilizing that aesthetic pallette of pent up momentums,and overwrought festering movements that get resolved. Instead the Bruckner movement in fact doesn't move,there is no forward moving implication, we must simply withstand the overbearing presence of each movement in its own right,within its own oceanic spaces. Simpson is a good writer and brings some literary image to the outside gestural features, as his machine-like repetitive conconctions, its moments which simply begin and end mindlessly at times,as the various variegated Scherzi. You need the score I found to read Simpson for he does drag us through these symphonies as a callable narrative,moment to moment,step by step,(not quite note for note) inch by inch. This can get tedious,but that is what was the usual fare of musical analysis. Now hopefully there are those essays which introduce more social and political dimensions to the creation of art.

I am not an analyst, but this book is fun to read.
This book does something that few others textbooks accomplish - it tells an interesting and compelling story. I didn't really understand measure until reading this book, which does a great job of laying out the various competing ideas of the time and how they evolved into the current notion.
Further - and perhaps most important for a math book - is that the proofs are very clear and complete. It's true that many important concepts are left as exercises, but those that are covered in the text are covered well. In contrast, I have suffered too many math texts that attempt to cover every important result but with only short, uninformative proofs (e.g. "Proof: By Radon-Nikodym and Corollary 2 of Theorem 5 QED").
I've seen a better book.......2000-01-30
I'm taking a course in Real Analysis and using this text. Several difficulties arise while reading this book. It's either because I'm a weak student, or the text itself. Here are some facts about the book:
1. Many topics are covered.
2. A lot of important results have been left as exercises. And I really mean *many* ! So, you need a guide (like a teacher).
Sometimes, if you want to satisfy fact 1, you need to have fact 2. So, it's a compromise between losing some details and covering as many topics as possible.I usually (if not almost always) find myself refering to another text while reading this book....Definitely not for a beginner who wants to study by him/herself.

As a big fan of Shawn Kennedy's previous puzzle book and magazine puzzles, I was thrilled to see a new book by this gifted puzzlemaster. Thick paper, easy to erase, highly visible puzzles on good quality paper as well, this book is just plain fun. Challenging, but not impossible puzzles (which is important, they aren't fun if you can barely do them but they shouldn't be too easy either).

Get Moving and Make Something Happen.......2007-01-10
This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. The title alone is motivating and is in fact a quote from Albert Einstein. The author makes a strong case for making bold moves to get change in your life. It is written in an easy to read format, yet has deep content with spirituality and some science. This is different type of book from his first one "Winning Through Intimidation" now called "To Be or Not to Be Intimidated". This book shares the author's years of experience about what it really takes to be successful. I highly recommend it.

I'm a Ringer Fan, looking out for #1 is my favorite of his, with intimidation as 2nd.
But this gave me headaches, on and on about racial issues and other topics that give me headaches. Who cares? I just want to make money . . .
A little disapointing.......2006-07-17
the first 50 pages are good and explore interesting philosophical concepts, based upon Robert Ringer's life. The rest of the book is frankly mediocre. We do live in a different world indeed, and its seems that the "turtoise" has a hard time dealing with it.
Action.......2005-09-23
Overall, I would give the book 4 stars. First few chapters were excellent. The remainder of the book was essentially supporting stories. Solid "recommend".
