Book Description
Hugo Münsterberg's The Photoplay (1916) is regarded as the first serious work of film theory. In this new edition, Allan Langdale provides a critical introduction and collects numerous hard-to-find writings on film by Münsterberg.
Münsterberg argues that film is a unique medium because it speaks the language of the mind. For example, he equates the close-up with the act of attention and the flashback with the act of memory. His writings are fascinating accounts of the psychological elements of film and provide valuable insight into the reception of film as art at the beginning of the century. Hugo Münsterberg on Film will be of great interest not only to film theorists and historians, but also those interested in the history of psychology.

A lot of addresses out of date...........2007-07-11
Around 50% of items I sent out cam back undeliverable... although this is not necessarily the authors fault, due diligence should have been applied in checking addresses.
The catagories are very poor. The whole book needs to be rehashed...
Don't waste your money....

A Tremendous Resource for Musicians.......2006-01-13
I've scoured the pages of the Indie Bible through and through. I love the concept of listing all the radio stations, potential reviewers, etc. Someone took the time to do this for everybody and that's a labor of love. I especially loved reading the articles towards the back that go into subjects like getting radio play, bookings, reviews, etc. - it's all basics that musicians need to know, yet with enough insight to make it worth paying for. Someone who has no Internet connection or doesn't like e-mailing would probably not appreciate this book as much, since it's very e-mail oriented. This book would be very useful for musicians with electronic press kits, especially.
A "Real" Sourcebook!.......2003-09-10
This is the book you NEED! The hundreds of others,,,they look good on the shelf, but The Indie Bible is a real working book. You'll wear it out by the time of the next edition, and possibly you won't need the next edition.
So much helpful information!.......2003-05-30
In the pursuit of our musical goals, many resources claim that for a small fee they can help pave the way to success. I have found that the resource thus far to deliver such success has been The Indie Bible.
I have received many great reviews and have seen a lot of air play for my music from sources I would have never known about had it not been for David Wimble's effort in compiling so much helpful information. My press kit is chucked full of positive press from around the WORLD because of The Indie Bible. For the do-it-yourself indie artist, The Indie Bible is to a musician what a life jacket is to a sailor!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!.......2003-02-14
As an indie, neo soul, multi-lingual Singer-Songwriter, the Indie Bible has been my source for obtaining:
1. Initial radio play and interviews (it was delightful to find radio stations who were willing to play MY music because they liked the music!)
2. My first East Coast tour.
3. Record Store "Meet and Greets".
4. Major press.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Indie Bible, The indie spirit is alive and well in Angelique!
A Tremendous Resource.......2003-01-10
There are plenty of books about the music industry for the independent artist. For my money, this is the best. Why?
- Exhaustive information. There were more review and radio listings is my genre than in ANY other source I tried or on the net. My genre, jazz, is not as popular as it once was, yet I had plenty of listings of interest. He's got lots of listings in there for ANY genre.
- Great background essays. Those were helpful and I got super ideas about my career from them.
- Continuous improvement. Wimble provides annual updates and is pretty accessible by email. I've corresponded with him on a couple of occasions, and he's been great each time.
I believe that, for any independent musician, this book is an unbelievably good shortcut to get actionable information to help you in a hurry. This book would be worth 10 times as much!
Book Description
A phenomenon known as crustal displacement shifts the Earth's crust, repositioning continents and causing countless deaths. In the wake of the global catastrophe, the world struggles to take care of its displaced billions. But Antarctica, freshly thawed and blooming, has emerged as a new hope. Rather than wage a world war no nation can endure, the leading nations devise a competition, a race to the center of Antarctica, with the three victors dividing the continent. It is within this race that Mirabelle Whitney, one of the few surviving experts on the continent, grouped with an American special forces unit, finds herself. But the dangers awaiting the team are far worse than feared; beyond the sour history of a torn family, beyond the nefarious intentions of their human enemies, beyond the ancient creatures reborn through anhydrobiosis-there are the Nephilim. The world races to claim a new continent, only to find it already taken.

Too much stretch.......2007-10-04
Generally, the book was okay, but the story as it developed was not really possible. Too much of a stretch of the imagination.
Antarktos Rising Freakin' Rules!!!.......2007-09-25
Antarktos Rising is one of those novels that is impossible to put down once you pick it up. Not only is the action near ceaseless, but the concept propelling the story forward is equally as enthralling. Seriously, the author pulls no punches. Billions of people die at the outset of the novel! Most action novels are about avoiding a cataclysm. This one is about dealing with the aftermath...and what it unleashes. Few action novels are this creative and bold.
The characters are interesting, bold, yet flawed and human. The dialogue is smooth and easy to follow. The settings are some of the coolest I've seen (the scene in the church with the frozen--I can't say--one of the creepiest I've ever read). The creatures...man...without giving anything away...they're like a combo of Crichton and James Rollins--science meets fantasy. Believable, terrifying and so fun to read about. Lastly, some of the concepts and theories proposed by the author are fantastically original, applying modern genetics to ancient Biblical stories. They really take the book beyond being just a run-of-the-mill thriller and make it something more well thought out, researched and interesting.
As to the complaints of the previous reviewer...they only apply to those hypersensitive to Christianity. The story touches on Creationism, yes, but as a backdrop theory to the Nephilim (the story's antagonists). Being that these oh so delightfully sinister Nephilim come straight out of Genesis, it only makes sense to have a character (Merrill) believe all that stuff so that you and I, the readers, can understand what the heck is going on. Ignoring Creationism (the story of Genesis) would be like having a novel about the Odysseus without referencing the Odyssey. Outrageous. More than that, as the previous reviewer brought up, the author does mention this at the outset of the book and he doesn't even believe it himself! Why would he bother trying to convert you to something he doesn't buy? Oh, and no one gets converted. There isn't even a "gospel message". And I don't recall Jesus being mentioned even once! This is Old Testament. Period.
Trust me, unless you wince at everything Biblical, this is one impressive thriller. And I guarantee you, if the religious context had been Hindu, Islamic or Buddhist, you wouldn't have heard about it. People just seem to take offense at things they perceive as "Christian". If you really think a novel involving Old Testament theories might convert you, fine, don't bother. Continue to live in fear and miss out on a kick butt book. Even James Rollins (who endorses this book along with Stel Pavlou, Steve Alten and Scott Sigler...none of whom are Christian), in The Judas Strain uses the old testament and "angelic script" inspired by God as the core of his story. Antarktos is no different. Religion makes fantastic backdrops for thrillers, especially dark and scary ones like Antarktos Rising. I, for one, hope to see more of them!
I'm definitely going to read that again!!
Warning -- Religious book masquerading as action/adventure.......2007-09-12
I see that I am the only who feels this way, but here goes -- this is a religious novel masquerading as an action/adventure novel. That's okay, because to each his own, but I would not have wasted my money on this book if I had known that. The author offers a disingenuous "explanation" about this in acknowlegement to the book (so obviously someone else felt this way too), but this should appear in the description on Amazon for all to read so we have an idea and can decide if this is something we want to spend our money on. The action scenes are okay, but I want to read an action/adventure novel not an argument for creation science or Christianity. Developing characters with personality is one thing, but paragraphs of the character thinking about his theories of "young earth creationism" and EVERYBODY'S conversion to Christianity or their dying faith in their own beliefs -- agnostic, atheist, Muslim, etc. -- is very annoying. The buzz phrase here is "Truth in advertising."
Read `till my lips got tired........2007-08-26
Jeremy Robinson's Antarktos Rising is a unique and compelling blend of adventure and fantasy. Robinson's style is fast paced, almost as fasted paced as the automatic weapons used by the ad hoc mix of special operations combatants who put their lives in harms way.
I kept thinking, if this was a movie, Steven Spielberg would direct it. It had that kind of over the top action with believable -scary- creatures from our far distant past.
The earth's crust has slipped and now Antarctica is tropic and most of the United States is frozen. A new land must be found and the race is on between the surviving nations on earth.
I will not give away the complete plot, but I do suggest you buy Antarktos Rising. Its concise chapters allow the reader to come up for air before plunging into the next scene in the mysterious world of Antarktos.
Slept With the Lights On.......2007-08-23
Antarktos Rising does have some Biblical references in it, but no matter if you are a Christian or an atheist, the sci-fi, action pact thriller combines a bit of Michael Crichton with a splash of James Rollins / Clemons. At one point, I had to sleep with the lights on..
I am fascinated how author's come up with ideas for plots and characters. Jeremy Robinson is more than an interesting author. He has taken an apocalyptic recipe and spiced it up so much that you can't read enough of it. And it didn't give me any kind of heartburn.
Admittedly, I was home ill and picked up the book to distract me from my illness. I couldn't put the book down.
Okay Mr. Robinson, I am ready for the next book. But I love the characters in AR. Is there anyway I can meet Miri, Ammee and the Dcotor? I am a bit of a chicken, but I would love to go on their next adventure. This would make an EXCELLANT movie !!

Customer Reviews:
I review this book before every trip to the casino.......2006-09-01
This is the first blackjack book I read, and although I've read other books and aritcles throughout the years, I keep coming back to this one. In fact I usually review it before each trip to the casino. I really don't agree with any of the poor reviews here. First of all this book is well written simply from a gramatical standpoint. It is apparent that the author has quite a bit of intelligence and experience. The bottom line as the author points out is to keep your gambling experience sane. If you follow his methods you are sure to do just that. No longer do I have those long drives home from a few hours of the casino wondering why the heck I ever decided to gamble in the first place. So many people I see come to the blackjack table play without any coherent betting strategy. They may know how to play but have no idea how to bet, and without a betting strategy to add to your basic playing strategy I don't see how you can win in the long run. Card counting may be good, but I find it too taxing for me, and I was a math minor in college. Besides with all the concentration you have to do to count cards you tend to lose sight of the other nuances of the game. For example spotting trends. While some readers may scoff at the thought, believe me, I experience it everytime I sit at a blackjack table. What do you think it is when you lose 5, 6, 7, or up to 13 hands in row? Or win the same amount in a row? You ever notice that during a paticular shoe you're losing two hands and winning the next. Believe me it happens. The author has many other peices of wisdom that has proven true in my experience. Joining the table at the right time is important. If you obseve a table and notice that all the players are being consitantly creamed by the dealer then don't join that table. Try to play with as few players as you can, and if possible, go one on one with dealer. I've found that the advice in this book work for me. I'm not getting rich or breaking the casino, but people who have a lot more money than me have spent millions of dollars trying to do that and have failed (John Daley, Charles Barkley, Gladys Knight, etc.). I've found that I win a lot more and enjoy gambling a lot more because I follow the methods and advice in this book. I've modified the method somewhat to fit my style as the author suggest, but the advice I've come to realize, I should never modify. For instance, I try never go to the table without enough money to stay in the game long enough to win. Once I reach my goal I get up and take a break even if I'm winning. I also break my gambling up into scessions as advised by the author. I don't win all the time, but since using the method and advice in this book I'm ahead of the casino. This author stresses that dicipline will be the difference between winning and losing at the casino. I difintely agree.
Okay book, okay theory, not going to make you rich.......2006-07-14
Most of the people reviewing this book are in fact correct. Even if they are on differing sides. NO BETTING SYSTEM WILL BEAT THE HOUSE. EVER. STOP TRYING. If you really want to win that badly learn to count. There is absolutely no way around this.
However, this is where the controversy is. This system will not beat the house, as far as I know, I don't think the author claims that it will. What it can do, though is keep you in the game long enough to make your "goal profit." Any betting system that is worth a damn will have ups and downs. Of course, they all will eventually trend down. The key to the strategy that this author puts forward is you use this system until it has reached your "goal." If you set a resonable/realistic goal, like say $40 or $50 profit on a $200 bankroll, there is a good chance you will see your goal before the house's edge takes effect. Just remember, if you stay at the table past your goal you will lose the vast majority of the time. Even if you leave the moment you reach your goal...you will still lose some of the time.
That being said, a lot of the math in this book is, well, flawed would be an understatement. This is not going to give you an edge, this just gives you a strategy that can make you a SMALL profit USUALLY. But no, this, like every other betting system since the begining of the world, will not beat the hosue in the long run.
Good Book. Whats up with the poor reviews?.......2006-04-04
I bought the book and slightly modified the betting system. I seperated my betting into three groups. The first group was 5 8 16 110clb 60clb 110 clb. Then if I lose that grouping, I go to 10 16 32 40clb 20 clb 40clb. (These bets are done in a row and each time you lose a bet, you move to the next in the sequence.) If I lose that grouping, on to the third, being 20 40 80 20clb 10 clb 20 clb. I have set money limit recovery as to when I can move back to a previous group, the goal being able to move back to the first betting group with a 110 clb. I decided to just create these grouping because while I found the authors gambling system to be excellent, I did run into some trouble about the set chart system of waiting to win two bets in a row (for a trend) and then betting up to a clb because I would frequently get nailed. So I used the authors foundations (which were excellent) and just came up with those three martingale style groupings. It is pretty hard to lose all those hands in a row and also they are a system of duck and fire, coming at the deck and retreating to give you a great opportunity to win. Sure you can lose 18 hands in a row but that is why you dont sit at the table taking it in the kiester for 18 losses in a row. There is a great book by the name of 21st century blackjack by walter something or the other where he did some studies on the computer and in casinos where for a control group he just had people sit and stay at the table no matter what, winning or losing. Even if losing 23 hands in a row. The other group left the table after losing 4 hands in a row and staying otherwise. There was a significant difference in the profit at the end of several days of the group that would leave after losing 4 hands in a row. No, the mathematics dont bear something like that out, but I am talking real life blackjack. Why stay at a table and lean into a punch? We have all seen tables where there are 3 guys sitting there moaning that they havnt won a hand in 10 minutes with a blazing hot dealer removing all thier money. I simply go to other tables and observe trends. If I see a dealer who had an upcard of 6 or under for 3 out of 5 hands I sit down. Otherwise I continue to observe or move on. And of course, if I lose 4 hands in a row, I walk. If you graze around the casino while playing blackjack, you are maximizing trends, and therefore your profits.
Betting intelligently IS the key to winning at Blackjack.......2006-03-13
I've known that basic strategy alone was not the key to success at Blackjack.
For the past couple of years, I began to look at the underlying patterns of wins and losses. I came up with a betting scheme that was similar to what's described in this book.
This book combines sound play (basic strategy), intelligent money management, and the concept of loss recovery better than I was able to do on my own.
In reference to the reviewer who talked about losing 20 some hands in a row...get a new hobby, bro.
If you want to WIN ... THIS is the BOOK!.......2006-01-30
Controversy, controversy, wow, what a varied number of reviews on this book! I have read the last two reviews on this book, actually I read them all, and just had to first respond to that last scathing review, and second, say to those last two reviewers ... "Stick to your statistics classes and leave the Gambling to folks who really understand trends and odds!" I've been trying to win consistently at Blackjack for years and finally a person has come along that really understands what happens at a Blackjack table, you can tell that this guy has been around the block when it comes to this game, I mean I saw myself in many of the stories and philosophies he lays out in the book, trust me, it's great stuff! Listen, this game will "Crush" the average player who has no idea that there is a defined playing and betting strategy that should be employed and "married" together, especially a method on how to recover from a bad streak of losses, I've been trying for years to ascertain just how to implement a successful loss recovery method and the author of this book has just answered all my hopes for a solution. The previous reviewer spent a lot of time trying to "debunk" this book based on all the supposed "Serious" statistics and standard deviations, I think he is under the impression that we are trying to hit a 1 square meter area on the moon with a "Precision Designed Slingshot", but what he has really done has shown me his real accumen at playing this game, it's got to be totally NON-EXISTENT! He made a comment that once he lost 23 times in a row; well I'm here to tell you that I lost a series of bets ... 15 to be exact (calculate the odds on that happening!), and I fully recovered all the losses and made a tidy profit in the next five bets following that unbelievable loss sequence, and certainly could have never have done that if I wasn't using the methods outlined in this book! And that is exactly what the author tries to get across in the book, recovering from long loss sequences, implementing a methodology to get you back from the "Red Zone" plus a profit. Besides, if you are playing "Double" or "Single Deck, it's very rare to lose even eight hands in a row; at any rate, the methods outlined in this book will certainly easily wind you out of even that length of a loss sequence with nice profit at the end of it!
It makes me mad when folks like these fellas post reviews when they haven't really tried using what the author outlines, because if he had, clearly he would have seen that these methods do in fact WORK! I'll wager he never really even read the book all the way through. I mean the author's central theme is to back the bets down to table minimum when the cards are going against you when you are in a serious loss series, and when you start winning go into "CLB" mode and start chopping down the losses until you finally are back on top with a profit for that entire series! Geez, what is so hard to believe about that! And, he also cautions his potential readers not to "Double" and "Split" when in "CLB" mode to avoid serious loss potentials. And, he also tells his readers to design their own strategies using his methods, strategies that they will be comfortable with. Look, all I know is that I have been winning consistently for around 6 weeks now playing $5 and $10 tables; been winning around 16-25 units per session ... just as the author says I will! I play $5 to start, if I lose I go to $8 or $10 bucks for a quick recovery and if no win, I simply drop to $5 bucks wait for a win and go into CLB mode, hopefully get two wins in a row and I'm out with profit! It has been so easy for me to use, it's absolutely "Nuts!" So, for all you serious players out there that REALLY WANT TO WIN ... TRY IT! Practice like the author recommends, you'll see for yourself it wins. I highly recommend you purchase this book and read it at least a couple of times then as I said, practice at home with some poker chips or something, I did, hey, it works, you'll see! And all I can say to this supposed "Mathematician" who reviewed this book last, I'm a "Software Engineer" and I'll tell you that Blackjack is a "Finite" game, its NOT Roulette, it's NOT a flip of a coin, it's a "Single", "Double" or "6 Deck" game with a "Fixed" or "Finite" pool of cards and outcomes, and my friends that's NOT an infinite set of sequences, that much I do know! C'mon Mr. "Mathematician" stick to your statistics class and leave the "Gambling" to folks who really understand and know what it is like to play for hours at a Blackjack table, we've seen it, experienced it, and know how the trends really play out at the tables!
Another reviewer remarked that this book should never have been published. My comment is this; as far as I am concerned this book should be on the Best Sellers list for the topic of Blackjack period, just checkout all the positive reviews, they can't all be lying ... right? All I know is that these methods work, and so do the others who gave this book a positive review, end of story!
As an added note, if you like playing "Spanish 21" like me (and I think this game is really gaining popularity), he's got some interesting theories on playing the "Match" bonus; I don't play them because the "House Edge" is way too big (believe it or not), but they are interesting and possibly might work, although I don't play them, I'm focused on the main bet there are plenty of other bonuses in this game to keep me interested. Forget "Card Counting" and start using the "CLB" method, you win more, your head won't feel like "Scrambled Eggs" from trying to count the cards for hours at a time, you'll always recover losses, and leave a winner more often. After all, the book only costs about the amount of one regular bet at the tables and will yield you hundred fold that amount ... GO FOR IT, spend 10 bucks on the book if you want to WIN, it'll be the BEST 10 bucks you've ever spent on anything geared toward this game! Hey, after I post this review I'm buying a few more books for my friends who like playing, because reading about and practicing the authors methods will turn them into consistent winners just like me, it'll be the greatest present I could ever give them ... hey, they're "Gamblers", what can I say!
Finally I am now really enjoying my outings to the Casino because I really do know that I'll be leaving with more CASH than I went in with, it's like having an ATM machine; now I go in whenever I have a couple of hours to kill and need some quick cash!
Book Description
Popular speaker, multimillionaire, and author of the all-time bestselling real-estate book Nothing Down, Robert G. Allen knows how to bring you financial success. With his seminars sweeping the nation, Allen is at the cutting edge of strategic wealth creation now more than ever. And in this completely revised edition of his classic bestseller Creating Wealth Allen gives you the basic principles that you need to stop thinking poor and start growing rich.
Moving beyond just real estate, Allen goes straight to the core of people's inner motivations and beliefs about money to give you all the fundamentals of wealth creation. By developing a wealthy mind-set, anyone can take off into financial self-reliance -- and Allen shows you how. He explains the ways in which most of us have been programmed to think that only saving is good and debt and risk are bad, so that in our efforts to gain security, we cheat ourselves out of getting rich. The key to changing that mind-set is Allen's unique integration of real estate with other wealth-generating investments.
In his trademark, easy-to-understand style Allen spells out all his practical applications and shows you how to:
-
Take advantage of recent tax laws
- Use leverage to multiply holdings while minimizing risks
- Benefit from high-yield discount mortgages
- Acquire long-term profits in gold and silver coins
- Set up corporations and trusts to protect assets
- Find the highest rate of return with the greatest liquidity
As Robert Allen has proved in his own life -- becoming a multimillionaire well before he was thirty-five -- it doesn't matter how much or how little money you have when you start as long as you understand the right principles -- timeless principles that can make you a fortune.

New edition OUTDATED; Many examples; Few clear details.......2007-04-08
I read this book cover to cover.
The book is broken into 5 parts: Foundation (the hook), Creating Wealth (the scheme), Concentration (the early stages), Perpetuating Wealth (the maturing stages), and Real Wealth (the later stages).
The Foundation starts off with some very cheesy motivational advice ("Bob Allen, you're great! You are a unique new kind of person ..."). To each his own, I guess. Then a sample of how different people would invest a $100,000 windfall. Of course every one is an idiot for 1) diversifying, 2) paying down debt, 3) investing in stocks, or 4) taking a vacation. He does make a very good argument for leveraging your debt to create wealth. That is the gem of this book.
The second part says buy 2 rental houses per year for 10 years. There's no discussion of other real estate options, just single family homes at below median price. He lays out his plan for 1) leveraging up to create wealth, 2) then jettisoning debt, diversifying, and creating a tax shelter. It's frustrating, though, because he just critized paying down debt and diversify and doesn't really explain the whys and whens. He actually suggests selling properties (and paying capital gains tax) to pay down debt, then immediately buying properties to create a tax shelter. Is he a fool? I can't tell. Though he referenced future chapters, there was no explanation for this bizarre suggesting in the referenced chapters. In fact, there is a big disconnect between the sections in the book. Many of my main questions went unanswered.
The next section, Concentrating, is the best. It describes some of the ins and outs of buying and owning properties. However, one gets the impression that his success is more due to being a good negotiator than to having a fool-proof system.
The Perpetuating Wealth section talks about discounted mortgages, gold coins, diversifying, legal structures, and taxes. These chapters are very disjoined and hit or miss. While discounted mortgages is quite interesting, he shows his limits in a discussion of ratios. He uses a Debt-to-Assets ratio and a Equity-to-Debt ratio to grade loans. Hello? These ratios contain equivalent information. Is he really using these to make decisions? His third ratio, Discount-to-Debt is followed by an example saying a $1000 discount may not be a bargain because costs in a default could exceed $1000. But the ratio isn't what gives one this information.
The legal structures chapter gives little useful information and taxes just doesn't get the job done. It has a pretty bad plumbing analogy for taxes. The final diagram has 3 buckets, 6 spigots, a filter, a manual pump, a few hoses spraying $$$, and some $$$ sprinkling on a piggy bank and a family. Now I get it.
The final 2 chapters are one saying education is useful and the other with nothing but 6 pages of quotes.

With Creating Wealth, Robert Allen made a tremendous impact on my life because it reinforced my belief that I can do it. The book is charged with positivity and packed with great ideas. I found it extremely inspirational. Inspirational enough for me to participate in Robert Allen's 1987 Challenge Experience. Great books like this are just as informative and inspiring today as they were 20 years ago. I love this book.

Great Ideas.......2007-01-14
As a beginner real estate investor, this book is very informatove. Mr Allen starts off with some much needed "fluff" in Parts 1 and 2. It is always a good idea to lay the foundation of your investment philosophy. Part 3 is by far the bread and butter of the book. He still refers to "nothing down" deals and he adds to this formula using the "cookie cutter" method(Ch.6). His tips on locating motivated sellers and developing a formaula to weed out prospective properties is priceless (p90). The book is intriguing until you hit Part 4. Robert's strong point is real estate which is evident from the material in Part 4. His chapters on discounted mortgages, numismatics, lower taxes, financial counseling, etc. does not seem to gel with the 1st 3 parts. This part strays from his own advice which is to stick to one investment and throw yourself into it (p20). The only redeeming chapter in part 4 is protecting your assets using various entities like LLC's or LP's. This is extremely good advice for the beggining investor. Creating Wealth is a very good book and gives good motivation to begin or continue building real estate investments.
