Book Description
What patterns emerge in media coverage and character depiction of Southern men and women, blacks and whites, in the years between 1954 and 1976? How do portrayals of the region and the equal rights movement illuminate the spirit and experience of the South -- and of the nation as a whole? In Framing the South, Allison Graham examines the ways in which the media, particularly television and film, presented Southerners during the period of the civil rights revolution.
Graham analyzes depictions of southern race and social class in a wide range of Hollywood films -- including A Streetcar Named Desire, The Three Faces of Eve, and A Face in the Crowd from the 1950s; later films like Cool Hand Luke, In the Heat of the Night, and Mississippi Burning; and MGM's Elvis Presley vehicles. She traces how films have confronted -- or avoided -- issues of racism over the years, paralleling Hollywood depictions with the tamer characterization of the likeable "hillbilly" popularized in television's The Real McCoys and The Andy Griffith Show. Graham reinforces the political impact of these fictional representations by examining media coverage of civil rights demonstrations, including the documentary Crisis: Behind the Presidential Commitment, which reported the clash between Robert Kennedy and Governor George Wallace over the integration of the University of Alabama. She concludes with a provocative analysis of Forrest Gump, identifying the popular film as a retelling of post-World War II Southern history.

This exuberant valise of verse bulges with more than 100 poems about things you've never thought about, such as Underwater Wibbles who dine exclusively on cheese, and things you probably have thought about, such as sneezing oysters and the dot-gobbling Flotz. Jack Prelutsky, one of the premier children's poets of our time, manages to be deadpan and goofy simultaneously and in perfect rhythm right up to the pleasantly unpredictable punch lines of his poems.
Take "Jellyfish Stew." "You're soggy, you're smelly, / you taste like shampoo, / you bog down my belly / with oodles of goo, / yet I would glue noodles / and prunes to my shoe, / for one oozy spoonful / of jellyfish stew." Poems about greedy grannies, exploding Bloders, and hypothetical situations such as having your nose unfortunately situated between your toes are guaranteed to delight you and your favorite kids. Quirky, surprising, and always delightful, Prelutsky's poems make us wish we'd grown up with his books in hand. Illustrator James Stevenson's loose pen-and-ink sketches are lively and fluid, waltzing along perfectly with Prelutsky's playful poetry. Once you and your children have howled your way through this ALA Notable Book, you'll be happy to discover that this talented pair has created two other meaty collections, including Something BIG Has Been Here and A Pizza the Size of the Sun. (Ages 4 to 12)

4th/5th Grade Class at Adams Elementary, Seattle.......2007-04-27
This is a great book to share with friends and families because it is funny and a lot of the poems seem true to what kids are thinking and feeling. Some of our favorites were, "An Alleycat with One Life Left," "Homework! Oh, Homework!," "The Nothing-Doings," and "I Wonder Why Dad is so Thoroughly Mad." This is a great book for everyone!
Excellent and my daughter loves it!.......2007-01-10
My child came home from her gifted/talented school requesting the book. She loved it in her classroom and has already read most of it.
Poems kids love!.......2006-05-13
This book introduced my son to poetry at age eight and he became an avid fan. He became so enthralled with poetry that he began to write poetry himself. He even wrote a very insightful poem as one of his college entrance essays. Prelutsky retains his inner child and writes from a child's point of view--hard for children to resist. A must have for your home library.
Poetry can be fun!.......2005-10-20
I think that this a great way to introduce poetry to kids that may believe it to be boring or stuffy. My son would ask me to read these to him over and over. We did a lot of giggling over some of them.
The New Kid on the Block.......2004-12-05
Although occasionally funny, most of the poems in this book are gross, disturbing, or just plain dumb. "The New Kid on the Block" is okay, but not the best children's poetry book out there.

fun, fun, fun.......2007-01-18
If you knit for little children, you'll find lots of fun costumes in this book to make for boys and for girls.
Fairy tooth pillow.......2007-01-10
Actually, after reading the directions for thew fairy tooth pillow, I found it did not suit my needs.
I sent the book back.
Total Kitsch.......2006-11-18
I'm an avid knitter of children's clothing and am always looking to add to my library of cool, updated knitting books and patterns for kids. Unfortunately, I found the patterns in this book to be completely kitschy...none of them are ones I'd make myself for my daughters or as gifts for friends.
There are patterns for costumes (knights, mermaids, capes) and a couple for toys that are nice to look at (blocks, bowling set), but I think this book might be better marketed towards KIDS interested in knitting, rather than towards adults interested in gifts for kids.
Very creative projects!.......2006-05-11
I hesitated to review a knitting pattern book, since I cannot vouch for each pattern and patterns are essentially the book. But this book suprised me and charmed me. There are 25 projects for children. No sweaters and scarves, just costumes and toys and silly things for kids.
The projects are mostly beginner to intermediate. They're rated by how much time needed to complete the project. Here's some of the patterns included:
* Fireman hat
* Mermaid outfit
* Unicorn hat
* King's crown
* Tool set with pouch
* Super kid cape
* Ancient Egyptian outfit
* Knight costume
* Pirate bath set
* Alien tooth fairy pillow
* Robot jammie bag
* Hawaiian oufit
* Viking costume
* Sleeping bag
This book assumes that you can knit. The first chapter shows special techniques like felting (used in a wizard's hat) and how to knit i-cord. You may recognize the author from Knitty Gritty, a knitting show on DIY Network.
Ready to knit something unique for the kids in your life? I think you'll be pleased with this wonderful book.
What a bargain!.......2006-02-23
I couldn't believe it when I saw the price on this book. Similar books go for as much as twice what this one is listed at! And the patterns are whimsical, fun, creative... My daughter is dying for the mermaid outfit, and I've already knit the backpack for her. Some patterns (like the crowns) are a little silly (why knit them for oodles of money and time when you can simply make them out of paper and let your kids decorate them themselves?), but overall, this book provides a great assortment of fun, interesting choices.

Beautiful, elegant, a must have.......1998-11-04
This book is filled cover to cover with beautiful photographs of the fabulous five on stage, off stage, awake and asleep. This book is filled with seriousness and silliness. Lynn Goldsmith has managed to capture the very essence of these men. It's more than a documentary. She's managed to illustrate where they come from, where they're going and who they are. Even if you're not a NKOTB fan you can appreicate the beauty of these photographs.
This Book Is A MUST HAVE For Any NKOTB Lover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......1998-08-02
This book is a great edition to the many books that have been published about the NKOTB, and this one is my personal favorite because the pictures are so lifelike and so colorful. Lynn Goldsmith has captured the essesnce of the Five Hardest Working Kids In Show Business!!!! I would personally like to congratulate Ms. Goldsmith on a job well done. If and when this book is reprinted, please get a copy, you will not be disappointed.

Product Description
"What's that you say? Never deal with a dragon? Chummer, if a wizworm involves you in its intricate plots, you'll have no choice in the matter. You'll either deal or be it's next meal." Dragons of the Sixth World gets under the scales of the world's most dangerous and manipulative reptiles. It provides details on the life cycle, biology, magic and culture of dragons, and investigates their servants, allies and pawns. Dossiers are provided on ten of the world's foremost great dragons, with shorter bios given on over a dozen others. The Draco Foundation, pursuing the schemes of its founder, the dead dragon Dunkelzahn, is also described. For use with Shadowrun, Third Edition.
Customer Reviews:
Here There Be Dragons.......2003-11-08
Dragons of the Sixth World is something that I (and probably many others) have beeen waiting for for a long time. Dragons have always played a significant, if behind the scenes role in the Shadowrun universe and this book finally gives us some decent data on them. Much of this information is brand new while some of it is simply collected and updated from previous sourcebooks and novels.
The book gives a brief (and sketchy) treatise on dragon biology and life cycles and then goes on to give dossiers of several great dragons and then a few pages of blurbs on lesser dragons. The game information section is actually quite small but it gives some harder information on the Great Dragons and rules for creating Drake player characters.
This book, in some ways, is like Threats 2. It's a lot of speculation, shadowtalk, and provides many, many hooks for adventures. It may also be the last of its kind in some time, as Shadowrun is said to be switching to more "street-level" look and feel.
The book itself is about 200 pages long and is quite an interesting read. It leaves a lot of questions unanswered of course, but that is the point of this kind of sourcebook. Some of the art in it (sparse as it is) is quite nice.
One note: If you're aware of the Shadowrun/Earthdawn crossovers then this book will have somewhat more meaning for you, especially if you've downloaded and read the FASA sourcebook "Dragons." Before FASA closed its doors it had just finished putting the writing together for the Eartdawn sourcebook on dragons. They very kindly released it for free in PDF format on the net as one of their last acts. Dragons of the Sixth World will make much more sense if you've read its Eartdawn equivalent.

Customer Reviews:
Must Read!!!.......2007-05-22
This book is a must read for people seriously looking to change their current J-O-B situation. I value the insight Dr. Charles King and James Robinson has prepared in this book to educate all on the subject of Network Marketing. Thank you to the authors and all those who worked diligently to review these numbers and post them in a format that unequivicably proves why everyone should be involved in a Network Marketing company now. It should be noted that the statistics in this book should be updated every 5 years so we can all see how much growth this industry sees.
A must read for MLM Networkers.......2007-05-13
In the MLM (a.k.a. Network Marketing) industry any upcoming or fresh entrant, aspiring to reach whereever that he has decided to reach or get whatever that he has set out to get using this industry as his vehicle, should not waste a single day before getting a copy of this book and reading it immediately - not to mention re-visiting it as often as possible. Why? Every NM company that cares about its distributors' or representatives' success encourages them to learn everything about the industry. "Get to know the industry you're working in, inside out!" you hear the big earners say. Well, that's not without reason. Whether you will be able to promote the product/services of your company or not, is secondary. The primary challenge is to educate your prospect about the industry in positive light. By and large this is the primary issue for prospects, so much instrumental in transferring or not transferring your belief in the mission you have embarked on. Not to mention the years and years of built-up negativity that needs to be erased even before you introduce your company and products.
This book addresses this problem. I give this book a five star because (1) this is the only book available that sums up, yet covers all aspects of the industry. You won't need any other book to learn about the industry, not that there are any as comprehensive and complete as this one. (2) Secondly, this book is coming from the authority in Network Markerting Industry. In fact, for me this book is an objection handling manual.
Cheers!
The New Professionals.......2006-11-05

A Great Introduction to MLM.......2005-11-18
If you are contemplating getting into Network Marketing, you MUST read this MLM book first!
Even though this book is a bit dated, a lot of the myths and misconceptions of this industry are dispelled in it.
This book also goes on to explain why Network marketing is now a BILLION dollar global business, as well as why it's the right business to get into when you are looking for a home-based business.
James Leong
Author of The World's First Book on Network Marketing with NLP,
"MLM Persuasion Mastery: How Master Networkers Change Beliefs and Behavior"
Good Intro to Network Marketing.......2005-08-31
Explains what network marketing is, and what some of the advantages are. I would recommend this for people who are new to or are thinking about network marketing. It can really answer some of your questions.
