BANNER IN THE SKY.......2000-06-14
I thought this book was very intresting . It is about a boy , Rudi Matt , who has a dream to climb the Citadel. He wanted to acomplish it after his father's death trying to reach the top of it 15 years earlier . He went on a trek to climb it with 3 other people . Their names were Captain Winter , Amil Saxo , and Rudi's uncle Franz . Rudi did not reach the top because he went on to help Saxo , who had fallen 20 feet , because he lost his balance trying to push Rudi away from him . Rudi's dream was not accomplished for him but it was for his father Joseph Matt . He had the same dream as Rudi . Joseph Matt did not reach his dream himself either , because as I said before he died trying . His dream did come true , though . Captain Winter and Franz reached the summit and accomplished Rudi and Joseph Matt's dream for them . I thought this book was very wonderful and it taught me about how I can reach a dream .

Play Bridge with Reese was a lot better.......2007-05-16
I much prefered the authors other book: Play Bridge with Reese
1 - I didn't like his attitude. Regardless of his skill, he does not seem like someone I'd care to play with.
2 - the bidding is outdated and franky bad. Some of Reeses ideas would be rejected today. Its *VERY* hard to try and figure out teh shape when an opponent makes horrible bids like opening 1 NT with a spot singleton spade. Thats a horrible bid, and you are better off using the few minutes you have during each hand to think abiout a realistic set of hands.
3 - A number of the hands involved some non simple squeezes. They are not all that common, and even advanced players would be better off if they used their time looking at other types of problems. I think teh selection of problem types was just not that good. Soem problems were good, some were fair, some were poor.
I think one of the reasons this book got so much acclaim is Reese was one of the first authors to use this style. Since there are now many otehr books that also present the reader problems in this format, thsi book has not aged well. I would recommend reading many other play of the hand books before this. (Eddie Kantar, Mike Lawrence, Kelseys Test Your XXX, Win the Bermuda Bowl with Me, Danny Roth)
The book isn't bad, its just not a great book. Read it, but don't expect it to be as good as its hype.
How to think at the table.......2006-12-24
What does an expert think about?
How does he go about testing his hypothesis?
Don't worry if the bididng is a little old fashioned, look deeper, at the problem, and the tools (bidding) the author had at the time.
Play these hands with me........2006-03-20
This is a great book to for intermediate or even advanced player. It addresses the thought process of the expert (Terence Reese) on his bidding and declarer play on a wide variety of hands. Some of the bidding conventions are now outdated, but even for today's ACBL bridge player it is an excellent learning tool to improve one's declarer play, as well as an enjoyable bridge read.
Dazzling, delightful.......1999-06-04
It's a shame Play Bridge with Reese and this book are out of print because they're classics. Some books give you rules and group hands into topics and chapters. These are different. You pick up a bridge hand with the late, great Terrence Reese, and follow his thoughts and choices through the bidding. When the bidding is over, the opponents lead, dummy comes down and you follow his thinking through the play of the hand as he develops a plan and builds up a picture of the hidden hands card by card. The method is simple but the results are dazzling, entertaining and instructive. Play Bridge with Mike Lawrence and Play a Swiss Team of Four with Mike Lawrence use a similar style - also wonderfully done - but Play Bridge with Reese is probably the best of the four.

Read This Book Early and Often.......2006-11-28
While all of Reese's books are must-reads for serious bridge players, none matches up to the brilliance of "Master Play." In terms of its importance, I have never met an aspiring player who hasn't read the book. In fact, most motivated players read it many times. For the intermediate player, Reese's well laid out hands cover the important core skills such as the deep finesse, hold-ups, end plays, and simple squeezes. For those interested in studying triple squeezes, dummy reversals, and other esoteric and uncommon topics, look elsewhere. This book covers the basics - with a thoroughness and intelligence unmatched in other books of its kind. For advanced players, read a little more deeply and Reese will illustrate the value of negative inference. You'll learn to think how to think.

A Classic but an amateuristic publisher.......2005-08-06
This book is an all time classic. Every serious bridge player should read Reese's book.
However, it really surprised me that this new edition has a lot of faults in it. Not just silly typos (for example: printing East instead of West), but rewriting whole sentences that don't make any sense (like the bottom one at page 194).
This is a shame. It seems the publisher was in too much a hurry to publish this book.
The result: an amateuristic edition full of typos that don't
do justice to this classic book.
Remarkable glimpse into the mind of an expert.......1999-06-04

All "I" need to know about Play.......2000-06-16
I have been playing bridge for years but had little improvement before and now I know why.
I need a reference book that help me to tackle the common situations that come up in the play.
This book contains 14 chapters each deals with commonly encountered situations in bridge play. Each chapter has self-explanatory sub-headings that I can reference the materials very easily. Moreover, examples are illustrated under each sub-heading that help me to grasp the principles extremely fast.
Thanks to this book I find myself be a winner more often and enjoy the game much more than before. Its contents are really so practical that next time they can be used and every time they can be applied. It is a book that comprises the materials all I need to know about play.

4 if you are Advanced.......2007-06-05
Some good & tricky problems. Also a number of non simple squeezes that few will get, as well as some that I just thought weren't that good.
Intermediates will have trouble with tese problems. You can learn a little, but I think there are much better books for intermediates.
The book is average, its not bad. I just don't think its especially good.

for Advanced players.......2007-05-23
These problems are for advanced players, not Intermediate Plus. They involve more than counting and drawing inferences from thw bidding and play. You need to use visualization, and ask what declarer is up to.
Many of the problems involve avoiding some kind of squeeze otehr than a simple squeeze. Some of the problems are good, some are just ok. A few seem far fetched with leads or inferences or bidding I don't agree with
For advanced players I would rate the book 3 1/2 stars. Its not bad, just that 4 and 5 star books are better. I suggest instead reading "Defend these hands with me", or some of Hugh Kelseys books, or "Defend with your Life".
For intermediates I suggest Eddie Kantars books "A New Approach to Play and Defense" or "Kantar for the Defense".

This book details the fictitious exploits of the bridge-playing monks of St, Titus, who are involved in the Gold Cup, the Hubert Phillips Bowl, the National inter-monastery championship, and a mission to Africa to convert the Bozwambi tribe to the Acol system.

Book Review.......2007-05-12
An easy read.... this book gives a quick introduction to intellectual property rights and application procedures. Not nearly as helpful as some other, thicker, "How to" books.
A convenient concise OVERVIEW.......2005-04-06
This is quick 85-page overview of the patent process. It provides the key steps, requirements, and definitions in very plain terms (almost in the same style of language as the IRS's 1040EZ instructions). However, it steers clear from giving ADVICE. If you need advice, try Patent It Yourself, from Nolo Press.
Some of the information in this slim volume can be found at http://www.uspto.gov/. But this book brings it together in a very convenient and affordable package. It is worth the modest price!
Government publication that needs a new edition.......2005-03-13
This is not the first place to start if you're interested in the patent process. The law is dynamic and this book was out of date years ago. There are many other books out there that will outline the basics in a much more reliable way. Look for a book that will discuss World Trade Organization provisions and other international aspects of IP law - otherwise it's too limiting. Never choose to file for a patent application yourself. Use references to educate yourself on the process and then if you want to pursue this expensive process (which can become more expensive if you make an error) find a registered agent or attorney.
A Good Introduction.......2003-05-19
This book offers a simple, straightforward interoduction to patent law. If you are starting from scratch, this is a good place to start. There isn't much "how to" in this book, so it's probably best for someone who plans to work with a patent lawyer or service.
Obsolete book.......2003-03-13
This book gives a decent description of patents, but it's out of date. For example, it says the head of the patent office is called "Commissioner" when that was changed and the head is called "Director" and the "Commissioner" is actually the third in rank (second is "Deputy Director"). The book says the USPatent Office handles 200,000 patent applications, but the number is actually closer to 300,000. There have been significant changes in the patent laws such as publication of applications, 20 year terms, WTO related provisions, NAFTA related provisions, WIPO and PCT related provisions, etc. that do not appear. So, take this book as background information only and know that in many instances it is obsolete. Recognize that patents are not a "do-it-yourself" activity if you want decent protection. See a patent attorney if you want accurate, up to date advice and worthwhile coverage. Stay away from the invention submission/promotion companies.
