It has received a number of different interpretations: an African-American slant, a Turkish low-budget fantasy, Japanese anime, and American pornography, among others.
This book provides synopses and basic bibliographical information for the forty Oz books in the original series and a number of related books by the Royal Historians of Oz; synopses and credits for live performances (videos and made-for-television performances are included here) based on the Oz books and on Baums non-Oz fantasies; comic book and comic strip adaptations of Oz; synopses and credits for radio shows and dramatic performances on audiobook or vinyl records; synopses and credits for theatrical films and shorts; documentaries and educational films; synopses and credits for television series and episodes based on Oz; video and computer games; useful websites; and short scenes on television or in movies that have an Oz element.

A comprehensive guide to all Wizard products.......2006-08-04
L. Frank Baum's Wizard Of Oz has created 39 official sequels, over a hundred unofficial sequels, nearly 40 films, and much more: so any collector seeking a comprehensive guide to all Wizard products must have The Wizard Of Oz Catalog to keep track of all the formats and take-offs. All forty Oz books in the original series, related books, films, videos, comics, radio shows and more are cataloged in entries which cover performers, plots, and more. No price guides, but this is intended as a catalog of Oz products.
All I Ever Wanted To Know...........2006-06-28
...about Oz in all its permutations. This compendium of Oz knowledge was not only educational in all of its entries but it was fun to read, too. Sherman imbues his catalog with critics reviews, editorial comments and asides that make the factual information come alive with the Hollywood of old and today's fascination with the movie, books, and memorabilia.
There are capsule synopses of all the original books along with movie, radio, stage, advertising, and computer game adaptations as well as actor/production credits. Pictures and illustrations give an insight into the characters and the graphics of the time.
Some of the interesting info covered in the book:
1. Baum intended to break many of the unofficial "rules" for children's fairy tales
2. David's Lynch's movie WILD AT HEART staring Nic Cage is a retelling of the Wizard of Oz story.
3. Baum's widow decided to reject Disney's offer to purchase the rights to make an animated movie and instead sold the rights to an animator who failed to bring the story to the screen.
I bought this as a gift for a friend and wound up keeping it for myself.
Book Description
Extreme metal--one step beyond heavy metal--can appear bizarre or terrifying to the uninitiated. Musicians of this genre have developed an often impenetrable sound that teeters on the edge of screaming, incomprehensible noise. Extreme metal circulates on the edge of mainstream culture within the confines of an obscure 'scene', in which members explore dangerous themes such as death, war and the occult, sometimes embracing violence, neo-fascism and Satanism. In the first book-length study of extreme metal, Keith Kahn-Harris draws on first-hand research to explore the global extreme metal scene. He shows how the scene is a space in which members creatively explore destructive themes, but also a space in which members experience the everyday pleasures of community and friendship. Including interviews with band members and fans, from countries ranging from the UK and US to Israel and Sweden, Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge demonstrates the power and subtlety of an often surprising and misunderstood musical form.

Very useful for devoted metalheads.......2007-02-10
When Joes McIver's book Extreme Metal was published in 2000, it contained descriptions and the background stories of 250 of the world's largest and most influential metal bands throughout history, and turned out to be a very useful guide, to say the least, for anyone who needed a thorough dictionary that could be used again and again. Since the book was published, the metal genre has expanded immensely, new sub-genres have evolved, and styles that only a few years ago were considered too extreme are now crawling closer and closer to the mainstream. And that is both good and bad, I guess.
Anyhow, five years after Extreme Metal was published the world of heavy music had grown to such a great size that a sequel was needed: Extreme Metal II. This time around the number of bands has increased to almost 400, and instead of having complete discographies each entry now has one recommended album. This change is definitely to the better; because for people out searching for new bands it'll be great not having to listen through tons of records. After all, metal music is just like any other music: there are numerous bands who suck more than anything has ever sucked before.
Extreme Metal II is, just like other books of its kind, not meant to be read from beginning to end in one go, even if it's perfectly fine to do just that. It's quite handy whenever one hears of a metal band one hasn't heard of before, or when a simple background check about a certain band is needed. A few errors occur here and there, but that doesn't really matter much.
All in all, Extreme Metal II is a great tool for all metal lovers, and if you have a genuine interest in the music, you don't wanna miss out on the opportunity of having your own copy.
Could have been better but still good.......2005-12-13
There are alot of bands in here that are worthy and alot of bands that I never heard of. I saw Carnal Forge in it, and that is why I bought the book. I agree his opinions are annoying sometimes and the bios are way to short. Still I haven seen alot of "metal" books out there that forgets these bands. Thats why I give it four stars.
Good reference book, a little dated.......2003-02-26
This book is good if you are just getting into the extreme metal scene and want a little info on some bands to see if you would like to buy some of their material. If you are looking for an in-depth write up on your favorite band though, look elsewhere. There are some omissions of some bands that should have been included, and some basic info on very influencial bands that should have been expounded upon. There is also alot of info on very popular bands that should not have been in here(Metallica). Also, since it was written in 2000 there are some good new bands that have not been mentioned. Now while that is not the authors fault, just be warned your favorite new band might not be in here.
Extreme Metal.......2002-04-20
Extreme deodarant, extreme cheddar goldfish...OK, not everything with the word "extreme" in it is very exciting, but this music is truly intense! When I got this book, I was getting really into thrash/speed metal. A friend of mine was introducing me to some underground bands that I was impressed with, but I wanted to find out about some bands on my own instead of having to rely on him to hear about all these bands. With this book, I could do just that. It's amazing how many bands are out there in the underground that no one is aware of. This book showed me that metal is much more alive than people think. I gave it 4 stars 'cause I'm not really intrested in black metal. Those bands seem gimmicky and a lot of 'em have keyboard players. But I think any thrash-metal fan should get this book, 'cause without it, you'll miss out on a lot!
Extreme Metal.......2002-04-17
I was really getting into thrash/speed metal when I got this book. A friend of mine recommended some underground thrash and death metal bands to me, and I was really impressed, but I still thought I wasn't completely underground because I wasn't finding out about any of these bands on my own. With this book, I did just that. Now, I truly am an underground metalhead, and it feels great! I gave it 4 stars 'cause I think that black metal is gimmicky and cartoonish, and a lot of those bands have keyboard players too. I recommend this book to every thrash fan, because without it you'll miss out on a lot!

This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A501473. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The thesis will demonstrate bow Brazil's System for Surveillance of the Amazon (SIVAM) increases bilateral linkages in Brazilian-U.S. relations within the framework of the international relations theory of complex interdependence; The thesis's central theme is that SIVAM might benefit U.S. national security interests in Latin America, especially in counter-drug operations. For example, an opportunity for greater cooperation between the two nations exists with Relocatable Over the Horizon Radar (ROTHR) data sharing. ROTHR could improve SIVAM's low altitude aircraft coverage and reinforce Brazil's sovereign borders. The most important arena for cooperation is in counter-drug operations. SIVAM was conceived in the early 1990s to support control and preservation of the Amazon in a strategy known as System for Protection of the Amazon or SIPAM. In 1994, U.S. based Raytheon Corporation won the SIVAM contract over French Thomson CSF in bidding, but contract execution did not begin until 1997. The new Ministry of Defense will probably control SIVAM. SIVAM will have Significant surveillance capabilities to support Brazilian military operations other than war (OOTW).

It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A329913. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: A survey of 163 medical practitioners from three federal facilities was undertaken during February through April 1996, to assess attitudes toward, confidence in, and familiarity with clinical practice guidelines. A response rate of 83.4 percent was achieved. Practitioners attitudes toward guidelines were found to be generally neutral. VAMC practitioners were found to have slightly more favorable attitudes. Levels of confidence in guidelines issued by various organizations were found to be in the low to medium range. VAMC practitioners had more confidence in guidelines issued by third party payers than Army practitioners. Levels of familiarity in guidelines developed by various organizations were generally lower than the corresponding confidence scores. No differences existed among the groups. Practitioners thought that formal literature review and reliance on national experts were the most important methods used in guideline development. Also, the characteristics of validity, reliability, and flexibility were important in practitioners' acceptance of guidelines.

I wrote this as an addendum to my book (The Strange Sound of Cthulhu - Music Inspired by the Writings of H. P. Lovecraft) to share this interview that come in too late for inclusion.
Customer Reviews:
A great start or an excellent addition.......2007-06-28
I really enjoyed "The Strange Sound of Cthulhu" so when this came up, I definitely had to get it. I have never listened to Yyrkoon's music (and quite honestly, many of the bands in the book are not part of my regular playlist) but that doesn't take away from the stories about how H.P. Lovecraft has influenced their music. One of the strong points to all of this is the consistency throughout. The bands are asked some of the same questions (obviously the answers are much different) but it keeps the stories relevant instead of going in all different directions. You would be hard pressed to find anyone more knowledgeable about H.P. Lovecraft in conjunction with heavy metal music than Gary Hill. If you already have the book, this is a good addition but if you haven't purchased it yet, this short is a great teaser to what you will find inside.
Customer Reviews:
I never got it........2007-05-09
It's plain simple. I never got the book and I wouldn't buy anything from this seller. If you say you have something, you should have and not mislead anyone who wants to the product.

Customer Reviews:
Follow Columbo's Lead.......2007-08-17
This book has the strong qualities of Jay's first book - written in a easy-going, lay-back style that makes it enjoyable to read, and it presents an eminently useful model that really works.
Jay says to avoid slick and flashy techniques because "slick is another word for slippery." He points out the gurus who formerly expounded on a wide assortment of get-rich techniques are "either bankrupt or working in gas stations." Jay advises to stick with run-down, fixer-upper types of properties. Buy low, and improve their value, and rent them out. I's a winning formula that I, and many others, have used to make money in real estate.
I particularly liked Jay's technique of taking a low key negotiation approach, like the former TV-detective Columbo when he interrogated suspects. Instead of putting the seller on the defensive, don't directly tell them what's wrong with their house. No one wants a complete stranger to come up and criticize their house. Always show respect to the seller, and have the seller tell you what's wrong with the house by asking him a series of polite questions. Listen carefully to what the seller has to say. You can learn a lot by listening. Don't be critical, never talk down to anyone. Even sellers who must sell, won't sell to you if you try to intimidate them. Jay points out that you still must diligently verify any information you get from the seller. One way to do that is to ask for their "Schedule E" tax form.
Another key to Jay's formula is turning motivated sellers into bankers. This is something that a lot of us, myself included, need to work on. If we follow Jay's advice and get the seller to finance at least part of the loan, the purchase process suddenly becomes much easier.
I also liked Jay's memo system of dealing with renter problems. In using this system, I find it simplifies my dealings with renters. If you call and tell them to do something, they forget. If they see it in writing, in an official-looking memo, they will usually, but not always, do what you ask them to do. It reduces direct contact with them and it gives you written documentation in case you later need it later to remove them from the house. I like Jay's comment "tenants don't intimidate me because they are simply no match for my landlording skills." A bold attitude that we should all aspire for.
The book does get repetitive at times, particularly in touting the benefits of having a rich lifestyle. There was maybe one too many statements about Jay going to the mailbox in his pajamas to pick up his checks.
Also, when Jay describes "carryback" financing when he sells a house, he never addresses the issue of the potential problems that you can encounter if you try to "wraparound" a loan from a bank or other traditional lending institution. If the lending institution finds out that the property has changed hands, they may "call" the loan and require immediate payback of the outstanding balance. Many off us are dealing with those type of loans, and it would have been helpful to address that issue.
Overall, there is a lot to like about this book. If offers sound advice for the new, and the seasoned, investor. The Columbo negotiating technique alone was worth the price of the book for me.
Terry Sprouse is author of the forthcoming book: "Fix 'em Up, Rent 'em Out: How to Start Your Own House Fix-up and Rental Business in Your Spare Time."
I've read this before in his other book.......2007-02-19
I loved Fixer Jay's original book, Investing In Fixer Uppers, so I was thrilled to buy his second book as soon as I heard about it. It is an ok book, but it is his original book in a new cover. Even some of the sentences are the same. It was kind of like listening to a friend who tells you the same stories without remembering that he has told you already, using the same words, gestures and inflection. I was dissapointed that there is actually no explanation for creating a 2-year plan anywhere in the book. The closest thing that I could find to a 2-year plan, was a sentence on page 8 that said, "Two years after you acquire your first property, you should have a dependable income, assuming that you're following my strategies." Then comes an analogy that investing in real estate is like kissing frogs to find a prince. I suppose that it is, but it didn't help me with a 2-year plan. If you are interested in fixing up houses to rent for income, don't hesitate to buy Jay's first book-I have read it 5 times, and am using his strategies from that book right now, having just fixed up an older house in my neighborhood. With 3 month's part time work, I now have 28k in equity, and 209.00 per month positive cashflow, on my first fix-up ever, thanks to his first book. The house was even owner financed, 2% down, and deferred payments too! (Jay's strategies) Don't bother with the 2-year plan book though, because it isn't anything new.
Start Small, Big Profits in Real Estate.......2007-01-18
The author gave "how" examples and easy to understand explainations to help you build wealth.
Good start but lacking finances........2006-12-21
This is a good beginners book to start buying, fixing and profiting from your real estate fix-up labor. The author describes very well how to find and profit from various types of properties: condos, town houses, single family, etc. The area that I thought was most interesting was the research to search and find apartments, the advise was more practical then other books. The more boring portion were the financials as I did not think anything was innovative in his approach: Buy low, fix then rent for cash flow and/or sell to profit. The author should have elaborated more on the mortgage and financing portion of real estate. If readers follow as described and if you can find the properties the 2-year plan should work.
Enjoy the read and good luck!
Start Small, Profit Big in Real Estate.......2006-02-21
This author is clearly very successful as a real estate investor and appears to have a great interest in sharing information and tactics to help new investors. His style is "down home" however my guess he is more sophisticated than portrayed in the book. I recommend this book for new RE investors.
