The mockumentary was scrapped, though a few scenes wound up in the finished film; what Weir gives you here is the whole prequel, "A Short History of The Truman Show." It tells how Christof (played by Ed Harris in the film), a promising, idealistic, Oscar-winning documentarian concerned with homeless people, conspired with shady ex-NASA operatives and the terrifying Omnicam Corp. to create a fake town full of actors and imprison the unsuspecting child Truman Burbank in it by messing with his head. For instance, they made Truman afraid of water so that he wouldn't swim away from his "home." The Truman Show is about Truman Burbank, the main character, and his fake life. He lives in Seahaven an artificial world that has only built for him. When he finds out that he is part of a reality show he wants to escape. Everybody betrayed him even his wife Meryl and his best friend Marlon who are actors like everybody in his world Seahaven.
The author wants to warn people of the danger of the modern media
culture and high technology.
We must be mor critical of the invented world of the television and think about its effect on us.
I like the book because it includes everything: lovestory, friendship, tension... It is dramatic but from time to time also funny.

The Truman Show is a drama with a lot of funny aspects. It deals with a young man whose whole life is documented in a reality show. The reviewers can watch him all day in the whole world.
The duration of the show was for 29 years without bigger problems but one day, Truman, the main character, seems to find out the truth about his life. He notices that everything is artificial and that his whole world is made fake only for him. Christof, the director of the show loses the control over Truman when the latter tries to escape. Christof does everything to stop him and keep him in the town where the Truman Show takes place- Seehaven. The message of the Truman Show is that our society is losing control more and more and that we let ourselves be influenced by the media and TV. We think the book is good, because it shows the problems of our society and what the manipulation of the media could result in. It is represented in a very funny way.

The book "The Truman Show" by Andrew Niccol was written in the 20th century. The story is about a 29 year old man who has been televised every moment of every day. The book is mostly dramatic but sometimes funny. Truman Burbank lives in a small artificall town named "Seaheaven". This world was created by Chrsitof, the director of the reality-show. In this show everyone of his frinds is an actor. The only genuine person is Lauren. He has fallen in love with her.

Imagine you find out that nothing in your life is genuine, you are controlled by others and everythin is filmed by cammeras so that millions can watch you. This is the message of the book. And it should make you think about how the media control our lives.

I like the story because we can identify with Truman and his situation. I recommend the film and the book because sometimes it is quite funny.

The Truman Show written by Andrew Niccol in 1998 shows the last few days of a reality show. Truman Burbank is the main character. He is the only person in this show who is no actor. Everything around him is fake. Even his hometown Seahaven is only a film studio but Truman doesn't know this. Christof is the director who controls everything. He gives the directions to his parents, his wife and his friend. In these last few days a lot of strange things happen so that Truman may soon find out everything.
Andrew Niccol wants to show the impertinence of the media which do not respect the rights of human beings.
In my opinion the subject of the book is very interesting and it is worth dealing with it. But in this case it is easier to watch the movie because the book is difficult to read because of all the stage directions.

I got this for my boyfriend, he's starting out in filmmaking. He's upset because I keep borrowing it from him to read, even though I'm not a filmmaker. This is an amazing book, with lots of advice on dealing with people and living life....FAR more than just a book on making video. there's even stuff on computer use that helped me with writing...but mainly, it's a GUIDE FOR LIVING, somehow hidden inside a flimmaking book.

Read it. Buy it. Share it. And if you're not a filmmaker, I'd recommend starting with the last chapter. "Closing Arguments."

I bough this book and though that it will be much exiting then it was. It was nothing special for me. This book is written by not professional film maker he is not seemed to be very successful. He didn't even finished the film school and makes ugly films. I didn't like them at all. This man has no talent. How can you learn from such a person?

$30 Film School is an absolute jewel of a book to have in your possession , as is covers every aspect of filmmaking from conception to distribution in a writing style that that is as straight forward and plebian as it is witty and concise. Michael Dean takes an approach to instructional writing that makes it seem like you are in the same room with him having a conversation. I read it straight through the first day I bought it out of sheer enjoyment and I have been referring to it on various projects ever since. Every question I have had about filmmaking has been answered and utilized in this book. I have used Dean's sage advice to attain fiscal sponsorship, to totally master my camera, to find cheap and professional ways around lighting and sound.

As I have read all of the reviews posted here, let me just state, if anyone has an issue spending 30$ on this book, they are not reading it the way it was intended. There are no quick fixes in like and you could read a whole library of books and never achieve what you want to. You have to get off your behind and do it. That is what Michael Dean is saying. If your intent is to become Michael Bey, I guess you should save your money. This is not a how to guide to becoming a Hollywood Mogul. If your intent is to figure out a feasible way to do what you love, to make art, this book will show you the way. I own at least twenty different books on the subject. THIS ONE IS THE BEST!

I bought this book...for...30 dollars and now i want it back! Dean really isnt that great of a writer...

Not to mention the simple fact that if Hollywood never excisted we wouldnt like films...I dont understand why everything has to be so Hollywood Bashing these days. Dean is a prime example of one of these types, if he wasnt lauding himself for his "DIY" tactics he was talking about about how "Punk Rock" he is or even "Those Hollywood rats...". i honestly think that Hollywood rejected him...so now he vents his anger through the book.

and not to waste too many more minutes on it, suffice to say this book left me unimpressed; poorly written and poorly executed. there was nothing of value in this book to me. do not waste your money.

            I have purchased Anthony's books and used his methods for over 7 years. I've been the number one or number two sales representative in my sales category for for six consecutive years. I believe one of the main reasons for my consistency is the fact that my sales process typically starts with the person who can sign the check.

            I highly recommend Mr Parinello and his books to anyone that wants to speed up the sales cycle, have more fun, and make more money :)

            I have read many business books that are the same old same old. This book is different. It focuses on getting into see that Very Important Top Officer in a company. These are the people that we all want to know, but have trouble getting to call us back. The c-level executives today are too busy and cold calling just does not work. To reach them you need to be tenatious and creative.

            This book does a great job of showing you the way to stand out from the crowd and get VITOs to return your phone calls. It reads a little bit like a text book, but the end results and advice in the book are well worth the effort.

            I found the tips in the book to be helpful and I use them on a daily basis.

            I've been in sales many years. I've read a LOT of sales book and listened to a lot of tapes. Nowadays, I tend to skim them because most books are just a rehash of old ideas. Parinello has done something here that I have never heard of before. He asks the reader to "trust" that his method will work "as is." I have done just that. I followed his cookbook approach to making contact with VITO. It has worked for me better than 50% of the time. Deviate, skip steps or embellish and you're on your own. I'm not saying that all his ideas are great, but his formula for gaining access to VITO works. What to do when you get the meeting, I wouldn't leave to Parinello. Try Spin Selling & Strategic Selling for the rest of it.

            Anthony Parinello bridges the gap in the quantity versus quality argument for cold callers. As a sales motivational speaker and author I meet many delegates who argue that quality is more important than quantity when cold calling yet who have no way of upping the quality of their calls!

            In a nutshell Parinello suggests a specialised method for "teeing clients up" with a letter before calling them. This is not in the "spray the market and hope" approach of most companies but in a targeted, well-thought through strategy which works.

            Whilst by no means appropriate for all cold callers this approach should prove a usefull addition to your current methods of operation for most salespeople. I have tailored this approach with several of my clients and we have achieved significant break-throughs with clients which they were failing to penetrate by any other methodology.

            The key thing here is - tailored. Whilst this book in of itself is incredibly powerful it, like all methodologies, will need tailoring for your personal style and industry. Even as a sales author and sales training expert myself I found some of the tactics rather "in your face". I also think that some of the later strategies in the book (voice mail for example) would need some considerable translation to work for most people. In places they come across as somewhat "salesy" (and I don't use that word lightly as I am proud of being a sales author and speaker).

            All of that said, I would recommend this book to anyone who picks up the phone and attempts to win meetings with senior decision-makers as the methods contained within will cause you to think about your exisiting practises and will add some more weapons to your arsenal. This book has a home on my shelves and will not be being leant out!

            Anthony Parinello's book teaches the very basic foundamental concept of selling to any business customers. Before selling anything, any smart, high level sales person should consider what business value their product or solution provides.
            As a sales person, we often forget how important it is to be a provider of a business solution rather than a box pusher. Although it would differ by industry, this book maps out the basic guideline needed for any sales person to be successful. I highly recommend this book to anyone just starting a career selling technology or types of sales position.

            I found value in the author's first book: "Selling to VITO" but I've been disappointed with his books since then. It seems that subsequent to his first book he has spent his time learning to market books rather than focusing on writing great books.

            "Value Forward Selling," by Paul DiModica is the book to buy if you are wanting help selling up the food chain.

            Parinello speaks with many years of exeperience. The formula he presents actually makes the often daunting task of sales a lot of fun, because it actually places YOU in a position of control through understanding the process much more clearly. This book along with Parinello's other books have become my primary source of sales reference (and success). Andtheonline support and training is sensational.

            When Parinello's first book came out in the mid-nineties, e-mail was a novelty, the World Wide Web had barely been spun, and line managers had a heck of a lot more independent spending authority than they have today.

            The massive changes in communications and business philosophies that have taken place since then have made Parinello's take-it-to-the-top selling approach all the more relevant for contemporary sales forces. This book is required reading for anybody who's ever had to stare a quota straight in the eye. If you have to buy one of Parinello's books, it should be this one.

            Anthony Parinello is at it again. The sales training guru and author of several sales-related books, including the excellently written "Getting the Second Appointment" leads the way once again into the office of Very Important Top Officers (VITO). In his latest book, "Getting to Vito," Parinello elaborates even more on why it is important to reach and sell to VITO.

            In this new book, the author stresses the importance of pre-planned calling, prioritization, correspondence, and many other topics that are designed to get salespeople talking with and selling to executive level officers. Not only does the book serve as a must-have reference guide but also as a motivator to all salespeople who go through the rigmarole of sweet talking gatekeepers, leaving tons of voicemail messages, and making sales presentations, and getting no results.

            The chapter on how to leave voicemails (The Art of the Voice Mail Message) is a humorous and inspiring treat. Though the method he suggests requires energy, tenacity, and above all, courage, readers should expect to notice a higher number of returned calls in no time after using this technique.

            Though the book contains lots of material from some of Parinello's earlier work, it should still be a useful tool for anyone who reads it and wants to sell to executives, especially those who have never read his previous books. This book is a must-have for sales folks who want to get out of the rut of performing below quota and want to make a powerful impact in sales. Parinello turns the sales game into an art form.

            I own and have read the author's original book: Selling to VITO. That book is worth owning and I recommend it without reservation.

            Unfortunately, Mr. Parinello has attempted to take his franchise too far. Secrets of VITO and Getting to VITO do not present the value of the original book. They are a rehash of the author's experiences and offer precious little original thought or suggestions.

            The best book I've come across on the subject of calling in to the top of the food chain is: Value Forward Selling by Paul DiModica. It is better in everyway than Secrets of VITO.

            The book focuses on the mind of CEOs and how to communicate with them. Most sales people fear having to sell to top officers, because they have very little experience working with them (other than following orders or being managed by them).

            Anthony provides a ton of information on how top officers think and behave. Having this information really helped me to gain enough confidence to sell at the highest level more effectively. I now have a road map and some principles to follow.

            On the downside, the book provides too much advice at times. With all the "don't ever...." and "you must do...." bits of advice, the reader might come away overwhelmed and more confused than ever. But Anthony does attempt to distill his ideas down to very basic principles which are very helpful.

            All in all a very useful book!

            Anthony's "Selling to VITO" is one of the best books ever written for people selling big ticket products and services to senior executives. So I had high expectations for his latest book, "Secrets of VITO." Unfortunately, the book is little more than pop-psychology. Consider the following seven of Anthony's ten golden rules:

            (1) I will be honest, even when it hurts.
            (2) I will touch people in a special way.
            (3) I will keep my thoughts and ideas simple and straightforward.
            (4) I will show my positive emotions.
            (5) I will say I am sorry when I mess up.
            (6) I will look at people when I talk to them...
            (9) I will not settle for the word "no."

            Could Anthony be any more trite? What a huge disappointment. My advice? Buy Anthony's "Selling to VITO" (if you haven't already)... but don't even think about purchasing this book. Overall grade: D/D-
