Cute book! My 16 month old daughter loves books, and enjoys flipping through the colorful pages of Elmo's 12 Days of Christmas
Adorable!.......2006-12-29
This book is so cute - love Elmo! It's little, so you can take it with you anywhere. The lyrics are adorable and fun. My 8 month old son laughs at me singing it to him...then he grabs the book and tries to eat it. :)
cumbersome lyrics.......2006-03-16
I didn't care for this book. My daughter has the 12 days of Christmas singing plush Elmo. The song he sings is much cuter.
Fun Book For Kids and Adults.......2005-11-28
My 26 month old granddaughter received this book a few days ago and she loves it.The verses are cleverly written and if your child/grandchild likes Elmo they will like this book.It is a smaller size board book which also makes it convenient to stick in a purse or diaper bag.
This is a wonderful book for children as well as adults!!.......1998-10-22
My son loves ELMO. We sat on the floor and "sang" this book twice and laughed! The book is so much fun. It's definitely a keeper!

Duudududuudu...drumroll please. Have you ever found yourself
humming the tunes to your favorite movies and TV shows? Well
now you can pick up your favorite instrument and play them
yourself! This book is great. It contains the music to many
popular movies and TV shows. Although it is out of date and
does not have a few of the newer movies (Jurassic Park,
Forrest Gump...) it is a really fun book. It has the complete
notation for songs from movies such as ET, Batman, etc. A
must have for movie and music fans.

Book Description
Jeanette MacDonald, the movie musical's first superstar, was an American original whose onscreen radiance mirrored a beguiling real-life personality. Based in large part on the author's exclusive access to MacDonald's private papers, including her unpublished memoir, this vivid, often touching biography transports us to a time when lavish musical films were major cultural events and a worldwide public eagerly awaited each new chance to fall under the singer's spell. Edward Baron Turk shows how MacDonald brilliantly earned her Hollywood nickname of "Iron Butterfly," and why she deserves a privileged position in the history of music and motion pictures.
What made MacDonald a woman for our times, readers will discover, was her uncommon courage: Onscreen, the actress portrayed strong charcters in pursuit of deep emotional fulfillment, often in defiance of social orthodoxy, while offscreen she personified energy, discipline, and practical intellect. Drawing on interviews with individuals who knew her and on MacDonald's own words, Turk brings to life the intricate relations between the star and her legendary costars Maurice Chevalier, Clark Gable, and, above all, baritone Nelson Eddy. He reveals the deep crushes she inspired in movie giants Ernst Lubitsch and Louis B. Mayer and the extraordinary love story she shared with her husband of twenty-seven years, actor Gene Raymond.
More than simply another star biography, however, this is a chronicle of American music from 1920s Broadway to 1960s television, in which Turk details MacDonald's fearless efforts to break down distinctions between High Art and mass-consumed entertainment. Hollywood Diva will attract fans of opera and concert music as much as enthusiasts of the great Hollywood musicals. It is first-rate cultural and film history.
Customer Reviews:
Hollywood's Golden Diva.......2006-11-30
I so much enjoyed reading about Jeannette McDonald. The author did an outstanding job with the research. She presented this talented actress and singer in such a perfect light-she talked about her hard working fund raising for the troops and her concert tours. What a great performer. I would have loved to have been able to see her live in concert!
A first rate biography.......2006-03-22
This was a biography that was hard to put down. Jeanette MacDonald lived an incredibly rich life. She came into her own during a period of time that I have always found fasinating. Beginning her career on the New York stage, she eventually found her way to Hollywood. You definetely got the impression that while Miss. MacDonald treasured her talant and her career, that her personal life was just as important to her. She had a supportive family and eventually a solid marriage to actor Gene Raymond that endured. I found that she had a wonderful sense of humor and a great talent. It made me go out and rent some of her earlier films, the ones she did with the great director, Ernest Lubitsch. Before all of those sugary musicals of the mid 1930's, our Jeanette was quite the coquette! Before the horrible Hay's code was inforced, Jeanette was able to portray some deliously decadent women on film. I loved this book.
Bad.......2005-06-25
A bad book!!!!!!!!!! This book is nothing but a sugar coated look at Jeanette MacDonald's life. The facts in this book come from Jeanette's husband (the author leaves out that he was arrested for soliciting male prostitutes) and Jeanette's unpublished autobiography (which was written in the conservative 1950s when stars did not reveal any secrets about their private lives). There are many better books out there about Jeanette.
"A reader" has to be Sharon Rich.......2004-10-28
I would like to point out that the review below by "A reader" that focuses so strongly on scandals and recommends "Sweethearts" by Sharon Rich TWICE is none other than Sharon Rich herself. The writing style gives it away. Ms. Rich runs a what is essentially a scandalmongering franchise that is obsessed to rather laughable proportions with proving that an affair existed between Jeanette and Nelson. My question is, if Jeanette and Nelson really DID have an affair, why is Ms. Rich going to such extremes to prove it? If it really is "the truth" as Ms. Rich says incessantly, then the truth should be able to speak for itself and shouldn't need so much help. What's going on here?
What is particularly hypocritical and questionable is Ms. Rich's constant high praise of Jeanette and Nelson while she tears down and demonizes the two's spouses, Gene Raymond and Ann Franklin. "Mr. Raymond is dead now. There is no more need to try and protect his honor." This brutal statement is the equivalent of spitting on that man's grave. And for what reason? Something is fishy here, and there is a strong need for someone to investigate Ms. Rich's claims, as a good historian would not conduct him/herself in this unethical of a manner.
Failure to research material completely........2004-04-27
No doubt Mr. Turk meant well, but when a writer of the life of someone leaves out important facts, it implies there is something to hide. Most of certain groups in hollywood during the 30s and 40s knew of Mr. Raymond's homo activities. That He was arrested on at least two occasions after being caught in certain clubs, and how poor Jeanette was nearly devestated when she learned of this after her marriage to him. Also, Jeanette was very human and very career minded. She was willing to do many things for the furthering of her career. After all, she was only human and imperfect like all of us. Even L.B.Mayer knew this. She was able to control a few men on her way up the ladder. But, when she met Nelson Eddy, he was of a different sort. The chemistry between them was very powerful on and off the screen. She and Gene stayed together, yes, as many people do, but they lived separate lives until her death. This can easily be done when couples make a show for the purpose of the public. I would recommend that Mr. Turk read "Sweethearts" by Sharon Rich. All of her sources are listed, and since she began her writing over 20 years ago, many of the people interviewed spoke over tape. Many of the close friends of Nelson, Jeanette, Gene, and Ann were still living. These along with letters and documents are proof. And lets not forget Jeanette's sister Blossem. I suggest that Mr Turk read "Sweethearts" by Sharon Rich. Then he will learn the truth. Mr. Raymond is dead now. There is no more need to try and protect his honor.

Book Description
The one and only Henry Hook is up to his mix-and-match tricks again, with another innovative book whose whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. One part crostics, one part riddles, Henry's latest creation is like two books in one. And to make things more entertaining, everything is in verse.
This unique book consists of 50 brand-new crostic puzzles (with rhymed-couplet clues), leading to 50 "Who am I?" riddles in the form of off-the-wall limericks. The subjects are real and imaginary, historical and contemporary, human and "other." As usual, Henry thoughtfully provides explanations and arranges the answers so they're not revealed accidentally.
Customer Reviews:
Very easy.......2005-02-02
If you're a fan of Thomas Middleton's challenging Acrostics, you'll find this batch very easy. The Random House "Puzzle Meter" on the cover rates it on the Hard side: I shudder to think of what their "Easy" puzzles are like! And Mr. Hook's doggerel definitions end up being more annoying than fun after a while. But this would be a good starter book for someone just beginning Acrostics.

From Negotiation to Selling.......2007-09-13
I wish I had this book early in my career. I served as a spokesperson for a negotiating team during an employee/employer contract dispute. The material in this book would have done wonders for me then. Now, I am in sales and "Hello Dave Lakhani"! I love the information on becoming a recognized expert. I have always been a storyteller and Dave's gives some great advice on how to make my stories more powerful. I marked this book up with every color highlighter I have. It goes on my top shelf with all the other books I go back to time and time again.
If you want to build curiosity about your product or service be sure and read "Persuasion: The Art of Getting What You Want".

Persuasion At Its Best.......2007-09-13
This is a fantastic book which is well written, flows extremely well, is clear and concise in its content and message. At the end of each chapter, there is a review and questions to consider. There is no fluff.
This book will identify the differences between manipulation and persuasion and outlines the motives and intentions related to each. If you are in sales, there is great content regarding selling and negotiating. That being said, this is of great value for anyone interested in persuasion.
Dave also covers off how storytelling resonates with people versus sheer statistical data only. This book also refers to persuasion and how it relates to advertising, sales letters as well as electronic media. If you want to become a recognized expert in your field, there is a formula for you to follow as well.
Buy this book, get a pen and paper, be prepared to take a lot of notes, I sure did.
Eliot Hoppe
If you haven't bought it yet it has already cost you money!.......2007-09-10
This book is not just for salespeople wanting new strategies and techniques. This book is for any human being who has a curiosity about how they and how other persuade and get persuaded.
Dave's introduction details the very real differences between Manipulation and Persuasion, how they can be used, how the techniques are used and then he boils it all down to give the reader the answer. INTENT.
A brilliant introduction to what is a fascinating step by step guide finishing with a truly inspired piece of work.
THE PERSUASION EQUATION. I could write for pages about how this can be used, what it is and what implications it could have to so many people from so many backgrounds.
All i will say is that the rice of this book is worth every penny spent and will reward you many time times over.

Valuable Success Tool for All Persuaders!.......2007-09-05
As a social psychologist, I am an avid student of persuasion and influence. I also am a believer that everybody stands to benefit from improving their ability to communicate and persuade (and thereby influence others). Beyond the obvious applications in sales and marketing, this book made me think of numerous persuasion applications for leaders of all types, coaches, professionals, entrepreneurs, negotiators, mediators, teachers, parents, work-at-home moms and others.
Lakhani sets the tone for the book by exploring the difference between manipulation and persuasion. He revisits this important theme throughout the book and even highlights points to remind you how to view a certain situation as a potential victim of manipulation. Persuasion carries an "ick" factor for many and the author helps tease apart the valuable study of persuasion from intentional manipulation.
Some of the most useful guidance provided in this book explores the art of story telling. This was a lesson I learned as a young attorney from an experienced litigator ("What is the STORY you want to tell the jury? You need to get this clear in your head and link all of the evidence together to support this story!") Mastering the art of storytelling will provide you with a competitive edge. Lakhani's detailed guidance in storytelling is a great place to start this work.
Many also will benefit from Lakhani's step-by-step advice on becoming an expert (attaining "guru status") in 30 days.
The book is full of practical advice. Each chapter ends with key review points and a list of success questions. Take time to fully digest each chapter. Use these points and questions to generate ideas and action steps to increase your persuasion skills. Also take the time to examine the separate reference section of persuasion resources at the end of the book, including several helpful web resources.
I highly recommend that you buy this book today. Oh, and be sure to have a highlighter and notebook handy when you sit down to read it. You will find yourself marking the text and taking notes!

the *golden ticket* to persuasion.......2007-08-15
Dave Lakhani's book "Persuasion" is simply brilliant. I've read a lot of books on persuasion and this is one of the most clear, concise and compelling of them all. I was actually surprised by this book because I expected it to trod on the well-worn ground of influence and decision-making that most books on this topic cover. Instead, Lakhani takes a unique perspective and teaches us how to become experts, how to tell persuasive stories, how to arouse curiosity, and how to position ourselves and negotiate to win. His section on story-telling alone made me rethink how I speak to others and how people are truly persuaded. If it's your job to persuade then this book is your golden ticket to doing it effectively. -- Brendon Burchard, author of Life's Golden Ticket. Life's Golden Ticket: An Inspirational Novel
Customer Reviews:
Very Funny, Very informative.......2005-03-16
Aside from needing to ask my British friends what certain phrases meant, Geoff Burch's material is very funny. More importantly his book on the Art and Science of Business Persuasion is very informative.
What I like about this book is the detail in which he covers specific business interactions that we all come across. He explains what customer service is and is not. His experience of work in the corporate world is vast and impressive.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a student of persuasion and influence.
