Elliot Grove is Founder and Director of the Raindance Film Festival - the largest independent film festival in Europe - and also founder of the British Independent Film Awards. I am a British writer travelling through the States. I had actually bought this book right before I left the UK and didn't start reading it until I got over here. I was waiting for a bus to take me from Chicago to Detrait when I nearly missed my connection - so engrossing was this tome. The part on structuring your screenplay was really helpful. I really hope that no one else buys this - if I had the cash I'd buy all the copies and keep it out of other would-be screenwriters. The chapters on selling and marketing the script are really helpful. Oh yes, the CD ROM...

Written from the ground up by Elliot Grove (Founder and Director of the Raindance Film Festival), Raindance Writers' Lab starts with the most basic tenets of how to create a screenplay and how to secure rights to true-life stories, offers extensive advice on how to properly tell a good, captivating story, and concludes with perhaps the most critical lessons of how to pitch a story and secure a deal. The CD-ROM files require Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher, and also contain MP3/MPEG-1 audio clips and video interviews that require a media player (Windows Media Player or Macintosh Quicktime recommended). Final Draft demo software is also included on the CD-ROM. Raindance Writers' Lab is an excellent technical how-to source, and highly recommended for film students and aspiring script writers with an interest in writing a commercially viable screenplay.

Finally, here is a game that reflects how human nature will affect the future. I have played many games in relation to human self evolution, (deep blue, Stradrive, trinity, cyberpunk 2020, Traveler, etc.) but this is closer than any others. There is no FTL, no matter transporters, and no aliens that we did not create ourselves. It is set in our own solar system; which has been sadly neglected by other games in the sci-fi genre. And the culture of humanity has changed greatly, and yet it is still similar enough that I could grasp it easily. The motivation is the same, the means have changed. Overall I would say that this game is one of the best out there. Even if you are not in to games, just reading it is worth the price of admission.

I've been following various transhumanist/cybernetic "movements" for years and have dabbled with "hard science" RPGs like Traveller, Underground and Millenium's End. Of course, Cyberpunk 2020 is at the top of the genre.
The well-researched writers of Transhuman Space masterfully integrates the most salient aspects of our continuously evolving and chaotic state of science and society into a haunting yet beautiful vision of our future. Even if you've never played GURPS or roleplaying games, the background information on the world of 2100 is worth the price alone.
Pulvers manages to incorporate today's conceptual technologies such as virtual reality, genetic manipulation and artificial intelligence into this game universe without the superficial pulp of sci-fi pop-futurism.
One point is that I don't recommend this game for novices unless every player has at least the main book and has a firm grasp of the technologies involved. The only drawback in terms of popularity is that THS does have a high learning curve because there are just so many new entities, each with its own game mechanics, that don't exist at this level in most other games. (Slinking, mind emulation, telepresence, smart matter, surveillance society, augmented reality, 3D printing, uplifting, etc.)
One of the writers even goes as far as to say Transhuman Space does not use theoretical technologies such as faster-than-light travel or teleportation and certainly does not use psionics, magic or supernatural game devices. In some ways, Transhuman Space is more mature in its science than Star Trek. THS does for space RPGs what Delta Green did for Cthulu.
For its subject matter, Transhuman Space is also refreshingly void of political posturing or trite moralism. The world of 2100 makes no apologies about cloning, eugenics, "parahumans" bred for slavery, etc. It comes off as a sobering cautionary tale rather than condescending finger-waving and preaching.

Pulver has really outdone himself with this book. With everything from simple genetic upgrade humans and memetic warfare, to intelligent octopi and autonomous sentient computer programs roaming the world computer networks, Transhuman Space really gives plenty of bang for the buck. Story ideas will leap at you from every page.

Things are going to get weird..........2003-02-22
The first full-length supplement for Transhuman Space, Fifth Wave looks to describe the situation on Earth, at least from the point of view of those who haven't been left by the wayside of economic and technological growth (see the forthcoming Broken Dreams for them). Using futurist techniques of extrapolating probable populations and economies, Zeigler has made a fully believable world of the future. This book also includes a number of new templates for various posthuman types, from free memes (gypsy ai computer programs) to genetically engineered people. The Transhuman Space setting just seems to be getting better and better.

The nicest thing about this GURPS Transhuman Space adventure is that it could be easily adapted to any space RPG and possibly even made to fit other genres. It is a pleasure to read even if you don't intend on running it.

but like the tale by shakespeare's idiot, signifying nothing. that a trader needs discipline, a fully developed tool set, and self awareness are trivialities. get a book on trading psychology that WILL help you: the psychology of trading.
sorry, but i'm getting really tired of books that promise all and deliver little, are expensive, and parade insignificance behind promising titles.

A must read for any trader!.......2007-09-17
I have read many books on trading, and often they mention things like developing discipline or focus, but never go into "how to develop it" or into the behaviors we may exhibit in the market, like our nervousness to enter and exit a trade, when a stop-loss has been activated. By far, this is one of the best books on trading I have read, and will forever be one of the top 5 books on my shelf of trading books.
One thing that this book brings forth, very clearly, is that trading is a probability game, and that by developing a trading system, you develop a slight probabilistic edge, and that when you keep all variables constant, and trade using your system, then like a casino in Vegas, the odds will be with you.

This book really opened my eyes to what I was doing wrong as a trader. It is all about developing the right mind-set for trading and shows how we sabotage ourselves without realizing it. It helped me recognize that the way I thought was the biggest obstacle to my being a successful trader, not my technical skills. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to be a more consistant trader.

This book was able to put the concerns traders face on the psychological level in a clear and understandable way without talking down to the reader. These concerns are things I face in every facet of my life, so once I became aware of them for purposes of trading, I have seen that I am better able to understand why I do and react certain ways in other things. I like the clear strategy to start to deal with the fears of trading. Mr. Douglas does state "its harder than it sounds in the book" but I read it thinking "oh no problem"... but the execution of applying the strategy has been a challenge. Its worth the time I took to read it.
