Schwartz' NEO-NOIR is truly a scholarly work...the single review now posted on amazon is innaccurate, immature, insensitive and vulgar.
There is an excellent introduction, plus 3o+ reviews explaining how each film fits into the neo-noir category...plus an annotated filmography with ratings and plot outlines for the reader...plus a Bibliography, Video &
DVD sources and an Appendix containing notes on the first Neo-Noir conference ever held with Paul Schrader and Donald Westlake in Manhattan.
Like David Thompson who was reviled by a reader for his book on Nicole Kidman, I too feel NEO-NOIR critics should give a chance for something new on the literary marketplace.
There is an excellent review of my book by a critic who really has read my work on film noir...if you go to the following url, you will also find a link to amazon.com

Ronald Schwartz
A simple list of movies trying to disguise itself as a true work of film criticism and theory........2006-04-16
I am currently completing my undergraduate degree in Cinema Studies with a thesis examining the neo-noir trend in cinema and I have to say that without a doubt this book is just terrible. It has an introduction going through the history of the neo-noir film but the majority of the book, about 99% of it, is just a list of films Ronald Schwartz seemingly enjoyed. His writings on each film are far from enlightening and it basically just functions as a book of film reviews. He gives us the synopsis and through this we can easily determine whether or not he enjoyed that particular film. Truly not worth your time and definitely not worth the price it is sold for. I'm just extremely thankful I got mine from a library rather than ordering it.
If you want a truly good book on neo-noir you should check out Foster Hirsch's Detours and Lost Highways: A Map of Neo-Noir which gives us a much more in-depth and interesting account of neo-noir history. Hirsch also examines sociological issues prevalent during the production of certain films. Detours is a major source for my thesis and a wonderful read. Neo-Noir: The New Film Noir Style by Ronald Schwartz might be fit for toilet paper and not much else. Avoid it.
Book Description
In this collection, Shipton has drawn together conversations with some of the key jazz pianists. Spanning the period from the birth of bebop to the present, their collective experience is a major part of jazz piano history. Shipton's sympathetic yet probing interviews uncover the fascinating life stories of these legendary jazz performers. He also probes their technique, allowing them to describe how they developed their individual playing styles. This book will fascinate all fans of jazz, as well as students of jazz piano and performance.

Definitive rules for fifteen timeless games, each with a custom-designed playing board. Fifteen spreads, fifteen games. Beautifully illustrated, this book comes complete with playing pieces and dice.
Amazon.com
Asked to name the best board games of all time, what would you say? Chances are your final list would be strikingly similar to the table of contents from The Book of Classic Board Games, which includes checkers, go, mancala, backgammon, nine men's morris, and 10 others.
The spiral-bound book is designed to lay flat when opened, instantly becoming a portable playing area. Each two-page spread features a game board on one side with the directions on the facing page, allowing you to play without having to fish around for a rule book (game pieces and dice are also included). There's also a brief history provided for many of the games. Best of all, the entire package is about a third the size of a single board-game box, allowing you to take this cornucopia of contests anywhere you'd like. --Matthew Baldwin

sincerely wonderful.......2007-03-18
This book contains 15 wonderful games, and excellent instructions on how to play them all. This would be a great gift for somebody of any age. It's just fun to play....
From the Board Games Editor at BellaOnline.com.......2005-12-04
This is a classic Klutz book, one of their earliest, and it's wonderful! A perfect way to occupy your kids in the backseat or on an airplane; it's extremely portable and all you'll need is a flat surface for playing.
It's not just for kids, though! Instead of lugging around 3 or 4 different travel editions of games, why not just grab this book and you'll have 15 games in one in a lightweight and easy to carry format.
Long-time friend.......2000-08-15
We have had this wonderful book - collection of games since it first appeared in 1990 (well before amazon.com). We are ordering another for our sons who are away at college and requested it to share with their friends at their apartment. Does that tell you anything?
AWESOME! Comes with EVERYTHING YOU NEED!.......2000-06-07
What is really awesome about this book is that not only does it tell you How to play the game, but includes the board AND the pieces you need to play for EVERY GAME! So far all of the games have been a blast and I find myself playing them over and over! I'd reccomend this book to anyone that loves games!
Great!!.......1998-01-02
This book is a great collection of board games from around the world, with easy to understand instructions, and all the peices to play. The board games are all multileveled but easy to play, and all of games are fun. The pages are all heavy laminated board, with a sturdy wire binding. The pieces are glass with a carrying case attached. The only problem I had was the carrying case tearing. All in all, a great buy.

Love it.......2007-08-27
My little absolutely loves these books. I have to read one or more of the everyday.
Awesome Book.......2007-02-21
My 1 yr old loves this book. She loves the pictures but her favorite parts of the book are the holes. She loves to stick her fingers in there and also giggles when I put my fingers in them. She gets great joy out of just playing with this book, not necessarily reading it. I would definitely recommend.
Look out it's a "big book." .......2006-08-23
It doesn't say anywhere that I can see in the description that this is a big book suited for primary grade teachers yet not easy to hold baby on your lap and read. I had no idea when I put it on my wish list. What a surprise! It's a great story with illustrations that provide many teachable opportunities: number recognition, counting cause and effect, telling time, feelings, and more.
Awesome.......2003-08-22
This book is great. My son (who is a one year old) loves it and we read it over and over and over. We have a few of the other books in this series and he loves them to. I highly recommend this one!

Book Description
Cuddly, sweet-faced, and personality-filled animals in Fuge’s inimitable style, plus a comforting story, add up to a winning combination.
As long as you have good friends, you’ll never really be lost.
The popular follow-up to the bestselling Sometimes I Like to Curl Up in a Ball is now available as a board book—sturdy enough for little hands opening it again and again. Critically acclaimed artist Charles Fuge joins with writer Angela McAllister to create a charmingly illustrated, deeply reassuring tale about getting lost and found again. When an endearing wombat and his friends play hide-and-seek, the little animal gets so involved in the game that he wanders over the hill and far away. Suddenly, Wombat realizes he’s very, very alone.

Too many editoral changes.......2007-05-09
I loved the original paperback version of this book and expected the board book edition to have the same text, But no!! The American editors of this edition thought they needed to change the text for some reason and now instead of counting flowers little wombat is seen as absent-minded, wondering off and getting lost. What happened to counting the ten flowers? The simplicity of language of the original is missing, replaced with a more wordy text.
Thankfully the pictures have not changed, I think this is one of the best illustrated books of Charles Fuge so far, it's only the editors changes I don't like. I have memorised the original book so I can still read this edition to my child, ignoring the new text. I highly recommend getting the original version from England or Australia.
Every night this year!.......2004-02-26
My son (born 05/00) ADORES this book. He gets four stories every night before bed if he's a good listener otherwise a story gets taken away. So far, FYLW (as we refer to it) has been *the* book to read, even if he's down to one!
More than any other story this tale has really sparked my son's imagination. We sometimes 'act out' the adventure during family playtime. During the reading, my son will 'help' little wombat along by saying things like, "It's okay, we're going to do *this*."
We as parents really like that you can build on the story as it's presented and there isn't any sort of rhyme scheme to get stuck in your head for the rest of the night.
Little kids will respond to the comforting message of being lost and found, having friends and family who love you, and being playful and fun little ones.
Highly recommended!

The fascinating story of chess is beautifully illustrated. This year my five year old's friends are enjoying it, as is his teachers and family. Great for the novice or pro. The illustations work as a visual guide.
For lovers of chess - be they young or old.......1999-12-03
The story of the game of chess is fascinating. This edition is beautifully illustrated. My five year old, his friends and teachers all enjoy it. I keep this book by my side as a tool in guiding us visually through the tactics. All ages and levels seem to enjoy Cardo's concepts.

Book Description
Kids from 6 to 16 who have learned the basics by working their way through the authors' Start Playing Chess, are now ready to focus on the secrets of winning. This skill-building manual will do the trick. More than 100 diagrams show how to exploit the strengths of each piece, and defend against its weaknesses. There are winning strategies for different board situations: find out what to do when you're in a closed position (when you're locked in by pawns) or an open one (when you're free to move and trade). Then try your hand at "double stuff"--moves that do more than one thing at a time--as well as winning tactics such as "family fork" and "skewer."

The Ultimate Step-by-Step Selling Guide.......2007-06-25
I speak around the world on lead generation and marketing strategy. Neil did an outstanding job crafting "The SPIN Selling Fieldbook" to give you a roadmap on how to master complex sales strategy.
There is no other resource I can think of where you can "easily perfect" your approach and positioning sales strategy.
Neil gives you step-by-step plan that anyone can follow in their quest to excel at marketing their products or services.
The SPIN Selling Fieldbook gives you valuable "hands on" tools. I recommend the "SPIN Selling Fieldbook."
It is an invaluable resource that any salesperson or sales executive should have in their personal library.
Joe Heller, Trust Cycle Selling
Better than the standard Spin Selling Book.......2007-06-09
This field book is better than the original book was. If you are going to buy just one of the two you should probably just buy the field book. It allows you to apply the ideas very quickly.
Practice makes perfect........2006-11-14
Usually is not enough to read a book to have the knowledge, you need to practice, and that is what this book helps to, giving you ideas on how to put SPIN method into practice.
Nice book, but too easy after reading SPIN Selling.......2006-08-09
I bought this book together with SPIN Selling. I read the Fieldbook after reading SPIN Selling. If you've already read SPIN Selling, this book is not going to tell you much new things.
If you would read the Fieldbook instead of SPIN Selling, then I think the Fieldbook is not thorough enough, at least if you compare it to SPIN Selling.
In general I think the audience of this book is perhaps college students, or clever highschool students, but not really experienced salespeople. Maybe that's also because of the cartoons every now and then which make the book look like it's meant for younger people.
What I expected when I bought both books was that the Fieldbook offerd some transcriptions of salescalls, and an explanation of why certain aspects are wrong and how this could be improved using SPIN Selling. This was not really the case, it was more like a simple summary of SPIN Selling. So not really the Fieldbook I expected.
Anyway, the book is not bad, but I would not recommend to buy both SPIN Selling and the Fieldbook together. Also, if you're a serious and experienced salesperson I would recommend SPIN Selling. If you're new to sales or if you're still in college, I would recommend the Fieldbook.
Indispensable part of the salesman's library.......2006-07-19
This book is a practical guide for implementing the principles learned in the original book about 'Spin selling', however it is not necessary to have read the other book to make good use of this one. I think the SPIN methodology is a most valuable contribution from Mr. Rackham to the field of large sales and this book gives sound help to implement it.
