In this penetrating and irreverent study, queer theorist Alexander Doty directs a gay gaze at six famous and well-loved films (The Wizard of Oz, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The Women, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Psycho, and The Red Shoes), averring that "the coding of classic or otherwise 'mainstream' texts and personalities can often yield a wider range of non-straight readings because certain sexual things could not be stated baldly." Doty goes on to explain that he puts quotation marks around the term mainstream because he wants to position queerness inside texts and productions: "For me, any text is always already potentially queer." Once readers have gotten past Doty's argumentative and somewhat tortuous preemptive answers to queer critics of his work--some of which originally appeared as responses to criticism in an academic journal--they can luxuriate in his engaging, funny, and acute analyses of these films and his descriptions of the historical contexts in which they were made and first shown. His personal revelations are a joy to read, and his exasperation with uncomprehending others is no less potent a pleasure, as in his repeated complaint that he has been chastised for conducting readings that are "too queer," as if he were "recruiting" straight texts "as part of some nefarious or misguided plan for a queer takeover." In frustration, Doty blurts out that he can't possibly be "the only person who understands the Oz sequences of The Wizard of Oz as the fantasy of a teenaged girl on the road to dykedom." Anything is possible, of course, although Doty delivers a stylish and convincing argument. --Regina Marler
Book Description
"Surrender Dorothy" read the Wicked Witch's jet exhaust, leaving the startled Munchkins to wonder what the message meant. So you think you know all about film classics? Guess again.
Flaming Classics turns the heat up on the movies we love best. In his wicked readings of film favorites, Alexander Doty takes us to the queer side of criticism, offering fresh and controversial views of the stars, the plots, and the directors of our best loved and most iconic films. Arguing against the assumption that only explicitly gay films are subject to gay readings, he looks at six classics and reads them for their queer potential. With both affection and scholarly rigor, he teases out the lesbian fantasy inherent in The Wizard of Oz, the gay nightmare narrative of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the bisexual erotics of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the queerness of Norman Bates, and even makes a compelling argument about Citizen Kane's dying word, "Rosebud." (Who knew?)
seasoned critic with a personal voice, Alexander Doty is a scholar-fan who writes with both readerships in mind. This lively, opinionated, and playful look at the movies is a must-read for film buffs, and for anyone interested in gender, sexuality, and popular culture.
One thing's for sure. After reading Flaming Classics you'll know you're definitely not in Kansas anymore.

Finally, the Lunars seem to have remembered which gameworld they're in........2007-09-17
I can't really speak to the mechanical improvements, since I have yet to play a lunar character in a game, but the backstory alone is an enormous improvement over 1st ed. Back then, Lunars were like a bunch of old World o' Darkness were____s that had wandered into the wrong gameworld--they hated civilization, preferring the 'purity' of the 'barbarians.' Conan plus anarcho-primitivism, how appealing. That, and the old rules made Lunars probably the least popular Exalt type book in the old edition.
Now, however, the Lunar backstory and culture are free of fantasy cliches (ie 'Barbarians') and sure to provide great kernels for character creation. The basic concept that the lunars are 'stewards' as opposed to the Solar 'lawgivers' is well developed into an exalt ethos that puts emphasis on mortal self-determination and self-reliance, a really interesting contrast to the Solar and Terrestrial desire to set themselves up as God-Kings. The factions of the lunars are fleshed out nicely--The Winding Path are dedicated to helping as many different societies as possible evolve among mortals. The Sun King Seneschals once merely hated the Terrestrials but now that the Solars are back may want to be the power behind the throne. The Crossroads Society are the sorcerers who trade lore and take a leading role in protecting the Lunars from the Wyld. Finally the Swords of Luna fight the fair folk (that's it) and the Wardens of Gaia are either civilization-loathing primitivists or simply greens who would like to see mortals live in harmony with nature.
In short, while the old lunars book did little more than provide crazed, not particularly fleshed-out antagonists, the new lunars book paints a picture of exalts at least as interesting as the solars who can either have wonderful adventures on their own or add a new angle to a game with Solars.
Excellent Lunar come back.......2007-07-24
Well I must first say that english is not my native language so please forgive me if I make mistakes. Thanks.
Now as for the Lunar Exalted Book. WOAW. Simple.
They completely erradicated all the mistakes of the Lunars First Edition.
Now Lunars are complete characters full of options and with a nice setting, nice background, history, great Knacks, Charms, Gifts and Fury stuff. Excellent new backgrounds, details on what they been doing this last centuries. A good reasoning of the Wyld core in all Lunar Essences. A great explanation of why they need the moonsilver ink tattoos and their restrictions. Also the Thousand Rivers proyect and their involvement in human populations like Halta, Chiaroscuro, Diamond, etc..
IF I have some disagreements with the book would be that some Charms (7) dont work well. Certain lack of Wyld Mutations to develop the Combat Form of the Lunar (cause they are spread between the Main Corebook, the Compass of Celestial Directions The Wyld and in this Book) I feel like they should have reprinted a complete list of possible Wyld Mutations and rules in this Corebook. Personally I feel that maybe they should have given a little more importance to Artifacts made of Moonsilver and maybe special Celestial Sorcery Spells unique to Lunars. But this is just an opinion.
So far an excellent book. Full of great things.
I hunger to play a full-fledged Shapeshifter that can edure anything and slay Creation's enemies while saving humankind from threats of the Wyld!
Yup it's fixed.......2007-06-13
A big improvement from the 1E version of the same. The Lunars are now not only powerful but have intersting charms and trees that will not make character design a headache. This is with out a doubt the most important update of the 2nd Ed of the Exalted game
Extrordinary improvement over 1st Ed.......2007-05-11
The second edition of Lunars presents a much more cohesive and believable let of heros than its predecessor. The social groupings are much more fleshed out and thought through, and alone are almost worth the cost of the book. These characters are presented as Heroic, though flawed persons, contrary to the nearly mindless savage Wyld cult leaders they are in 1st Ed. Thankfully, the Charm trees appear to have been cleaned up as well, at least upon first impression.
Overall, this expansion is much more in line with the overall feel of the Exalted series, giving the Lunars a much more believable and glorious moment in the spotlight.

A Much-Needed Addition to a HUGE Game.......2006-11-15
Firstly, for those of you who are new to Exalted (or new to pen and paper RPG's for that matter,) you need the core rulebook of this game entitled "Exalted" to play this game. You could try playing a lunar without it, but your game would be lacking many core rules and it would get confusing and frustrating very quickly. A quick search for "exalted" here on amazon will get you to this book, it should be near the top of the list if not at the top allready. This book is an expansion allowing you to play a different type of character in this gigantuan and fairly detailed world. This RPG is made from white-wolf and you can find source material (such as the much-needed character sheets) at thier website to help you. [...]
About the exalted RPG in generall: as allready stated this is a huge world, and there are many sourcebooks such as this one to flesh out the game. The core rulebook will make a complete game in of itself: but with only small mention of all the other exalts and poor examples of other exalted in there it hardly makes for a fully fleshed out game. The game can be extremely confusing to begginers at first. In fact, I highly suggest finding someone who knows what they are doing or who have experience with pen and paper RPG's in General to run the first campain. That isn't to say that this can't be done without one, but it most certainly helps and gets things moving much quicker. Rules for social and physical confrontation are spread wide and can be quite hard to find, although if you buy the Storytellers companion the combat rules are nicely listed on a Dungeon Master's (shortened to "DM") foldup board with many other usefull things you might need quickly, such as weapon prices and such.
If you really want to flesh out an exalted Campain, you need the core rulebook and several sourcebooks. This can get quite expensive unless you have access to several inexpensive used copies. The game is great fun, however, especially if you have an excellent DM who has fleshed out a great story. If you enjoy RPG video games, you will probably like this quite a bit. Do note that this game does not play like Dungeons and Dragon's at all and is a completely different experience.
Exalted: the lunars gives you a new option as a playable character as well as the ability to create other exalted a DM can use however he wishes. It also gives detailed information about Barbarians and Wyld Barbarians and extended Wyld rules. Again, the information can be spread out throughout the book and if you are new to the game creating your first character can be confusing. Luckily, there is a quick sheet covering only two pages of the book which is easy to find because of the pages different color which generalizes how to make a character and can speed the process up quite a bit. However, you will still want to go through a few of the details throughout the book as that quick guide won't tell you the charms you can take or what the backgrounds give you, which you need to know.
Basically, if you are playing exalted and want to further flesh out the game: this book should be one of the first ones you should get, it's absolutely needed if you want to get into some of the finer aspects of the game and will be sorely missed if some of the people playing want to play as something other than a solar exalt, and the first prime candidate for someone who doesn't want to be a solar exalt would be a lunar exalt.
If I could have, I would have given this a 4.5 because of the way the book is organized and because of how confusing they make this for new players. Luckily, if you are getting into gaming it's usually because you have an experienced gamer talking you into it who will kindly show you the ropes.
Exalted never fails to shine brightly.......2004-02-26
Exalted, the epic anime-style fantasy roleplaying game from White Wolf Game Studio, continues to dazzle like the sun with this, the second hardcover sourcebook, detailing the barbaric Lunar Exalted, the barbarians that worship them, the chaotic realm known as the Wyld, and the beastmen offspring of Lunar mating.
This hardbound gives the prospective Storyteller endless material to work with, from a chapter on barbarian culture, to a thick and healthy chapter on the Charms (i.e., special powers) of the Lunars.
I heavily recommend this book to all Exalted players.
Exalted's second hardcover sourcebook is finally here!.......2002-12-04
Exalted: the Lunars is the second hardcover sourcebook for White Wolf's exciting Exalted RPG. The book starts with an introduction vignette, featuring several characters from the main rulebook. Next are two chapters of background, one about the Lunar Exalted themselves and their society and the other about the barbarian tribes they usually come from (and, in some cases, lead). I particularly enjoyed the shapeshifting Charms, numerous amounts of which are detailed in the book, along with two-page write-ups for each Caste similar to the Solar Castes in the main rulebook and the Dragon-Blooded Aspects in Exalted: the Dragon-Blooded (which is also a superbly-written book that I highly recommend). The book also contains an entire chapter of storytelling ideas (for those of you who aren't familiar with White Wolf's games...the Storyteller is similar to a Dungeon Master or Game Master) with info on how to possibly integrate the other types of Exalted into a Lunars story.
The one thing I didn't like about this book was the fact that it's a slight bit shorter than Exalted: the Dragon-Blooded, although it does cover the Lunar Exalted in much detail.

- there are more buyers than sellers
- buyers are more aggressive than sellers
- sellers are afraid and demand a premium
- more shares or contracts are bought than sold
- I and II
- II and III
- II and IV
- III and IV
Answer B. II and III. Every change in price reflects what happens in the battle between bulls and bears. Markets rise when bulls feel more strongly than bears. They rally when buyers are confident and sellers demand a premium for participating in the game that is going against them. There is a buyer and a seller behind every transaction. The number of stocks or futures bought and sold is equal by definition.

Excellent Place to Begin Your Trading, Covers it all........2007-05-24
Dr. Elder has put together in Trading for a living, the most comprehensive 'soup to nuts' book I have read on the broad subject of trading. Ok, even Dr. Elder would tell you that to trade after having read ONLY his book would be the act of a fool, I can tell you now that I have read dozens of books, that there is certainly NO BETTER book to get a broad understanding of trading. Dr. Elder focuses on the three aspects of trading that a trader must master: Your Psychology, Your Money-Management, and then the Analytics. His psychology stuff is very good, a bit harsh, kind of like an old Russian dude might sound like in real life, but sound. And certainly less harsh than a big hit to your capital position on a loss in the markets. His money management section is powerful, which was perhaps the most concise and helpful that I have read on the subject. The money management section gave you a solid foundation for knowing what 'money management' is, and how it should be understood in the world of trading. And lastly, the analytics. Wow. He covers alot of them. And in greater depth and with more proficiency than many of the books that cover just "one" analytic. He tells you how each analytic would be used proficiently, and when it would be dangerous to use. Keep in mind that all of the tools he describes are not recommended, but part of a broader suggestion on how to build your own trading system. Lastly, his covering of the Miscellaneous Analytics is worth the price of the book. It was not the best part of the book, however, it covered areas like Market Vane and CFTC Committments of Traders! In that same section he talks about trading against the herd, (being contrarian) and how to discern who the 'big money' is in Futures Markets. NO ONE has ever mentioned this information in any of the other books I have read. If there was a single book that one could read to begin from there to trade, I would say this is it...although, I would strongly recommend against that. Anyway, this book is in the top 3 of books that cover this subject in the broadest of terms. I do not know what the other two are, but if you are interested in trading for a profession, then read this book.
Forget this one.......2007-05-23
This audio is a big JOKE a waste of time forget this one and look for something else. This is for babies, waste of time.
One of the best book on trading I've read........2007-05-12
I am a "professional" floor trader of over 15 years. Although I have been very successful, this book has given me more ideas on improving- not just my trading- but my life also.. and I haven't even read 1/2 the book yet!
I'm also using some of Dr. Elder's principles to improve my girlfriends 9 year old son's outlook on bettering his life. He is very emotional and I'm trying to teach him about controlling his emotions as Dr. Elder teaches in this book.
The book was recommended to me by a successful trader/trading instructor. Boy am I glad I got it. Thanks Nelson! I recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their financial status through trading.
Learn to make money in the market.......2007-04-10
This is a great book to learn about how to make money in the markets. It is full of strategy and lesson learned by the author. It is also interesting to learn the story of the author. It is a great book to help you learn to make money in the market.
Best trading book I have read.......2007-03-22
I have read a lot of trading books, but this is the best I have yet encountered.
Most of the other books don't take into account the vast numbers of different trading styles and personalities of people. They presume that there is only "one" correct way, which is obviously not correct.
I enjoyed the book because of it's weighted focus on the psychological aspects of trading. Most other books I have encountered are less effective in this area, although they may be technically sound.
The money management element was also most helpful. Many other authors mention the "importance of money management" but don't tell you what it is or how to do it.
The technical analysis areas in this book are a little light, but there are many other sources for that, and this is unlikely to be the only book you buy.
This has been my first year of fulltime trading, and you could say that I have paid some heavy tuition along with some hard won gains. Many of the "classes" I have taken could have been avoided had I read this book first and taken lessons on money management and core trading rules to heart.

Customer Reviews:
Accountability.......2006-03-17
This book provides a basis for accountability in making trades as you do. I found the psychological part the best. It is somewhat hard to implement the basic structure required by the author for me personally. However it all rings truth in it's wording. This is a work book and therefore leads the reader through a series of questions to let you know how good you understand the basic fundamentals prescribed of his book "Trading For A Living".
It has increased awareness and led me to stop making the same repetitive mistakes. And that is the basis for success in trading.
It could help some people.......2003-09-18
What is your learning style? If you don't trust that you know something until you've taken a test, this book can help. It does an excellent job of pulling out the key topics and quizzing you on them. There are no 'silly' questions here--only the important stuff. On the other hand, if you like to read and underline, then return to the text when you are actually 'doing' the activity, then this book is probably a waste of money. One nit complaint: some of the labeling of chart features is a bit unclear. Since it is sometimes tough to tell which letter goes with which feature, answering some questions is difficult, even when you know the material.
Great follow up!.......2003-04-24
In order for this book to work you need to have the initial Trading for a Living. With both books together you will begin to have all of the necessary tools to conquer the most persistent troublemaker of the market...yourself.
In 200 questions you will learn a lot about yourself, your motives, and most of all your personality. This is where Dr.Elder's background shine. In order to conquer the markets you must conquer yourself.
After being involved with futures trading for 11 years and writing several books on the subject I still find books like Dr.Elder's inspirational and mentally clarifying.
Don't bother.........2002-09-08
I ordered the guide along with the actual book and really never did use it. It may be cheap, but I think the book itself should be enough.
Will not work without "Trading for a Living...".......2001-07-15
Not as advertised, this book will not work alone -, and the added value will not be that much You need to have the book "Trading for a Living: Psychology, Trading Tactics, Money Management" and the combination will be great. ...
