With art this grand, maybe communism wasn't such a bad idea.......2006-08-18
If you're a graphic designer, you only need browse this excellent book for a moment or two to realize that Russian artists in the 1920's and 30's knew more about how to make a great poster than any American has ever known before or since.
Every poster designer and film buff loves American designer Saul Bass and I'm no exception, but Bass borrowed a lot from these early Russian designers like Rodchenko, and its no wonder--they were an incredible wellspring of creativity. Open any single page in this collection and you'll find a hundred great ideas regarding use of color, perspective, and mixing photography with illustration. Every designer should have this book at hand for reference. Unfortunately many of these early films have been lost or destroyed over time, but one wonders if the best part hasn't been saved--these glorious posters. I can't say enough good things about this book.
Fun and informative.......2001-12-04
I'm not a collector of Russian/Soviet film posters, so all the liner notes could be complete bullocks, but the book is brilliantly large and appears to really want to give the straight story (for instance it gives the title that the artists gave the posters not the movie title associated w/ it). I've only seen a few of the movies it covers so I bought it solely for the art. If you're a fan of the clean Bauhaus style this book is for you.
A superlative survey of pre-Communist Russian graphics........1998-07-14
Susan Pack's overview of the Russian avant-garde film poster, is a visual delight, and a welcome addition to the library of anyone interested in graphic design. This book is a handsome collection of pre-Communist posters from such notable graphic artists as the Stenberg brothers, and Alexander Rodchenko, as well as many other lesser known, yet talented artisans. Anyone familiar with Russian graphics of this period are in for a treat, and those seeing them for the first time will soon become addicted to their graphic impact, and innovative type treatments. A friend I've shown it to has warned me to keep an eye on it, lest it mysteriously disappear!
The book is written to address audiences in English, German, and French.

Book Description
Music therapy is an established health care and human services profession that is dedicated to the implementation of controlled research studies to determine the underlying mechanisms in music that are responsible for therapeutic change, as well as clinical research to direct and guide the work of the music therapist. This growing body of research has enabled the music therapy profession to establish itself as a viable treatment modality for children in many areas, such as neurological rehabilitation and the use of music with premature infants. This book, a result of a project sponsored by the American Music Therapy Association and the National Academy for Recording Arts & Sciences, highlights research and evidence-based practice methods that are being used in neonatal intensive care units, pediatric burn care, critical care and mechanical ventilation, neurological rehabilitation, chronic illness, procedural support, and surgical support.
Book Description
This special book tells you how to turn ordinary, square origami paper into pentagons, hexagons and octagons, and then by using radial creases, into intricate flowers with five, six and eight petals or even doubled numbers of folded petals. With this book, you can make colorful, fancy potted
flowers and ikebana out of store-bought origami paper by adding stems and leaves as shown. Paper, scissors, and imagination are all you need to decorate your home with blooming flowers of your own.
Customer Reviews:
You will need more than paper........2007-05-03
The featured flowers are beautiful, but I was disappointed because the process involves too much beyond folding. Scissors, glue... that's a given in almost all the patterns, and for me, that's not pure origami. Also, there are a few missing steps in some of the instructions. Beautiful inspiring photos though.
Yaaay! I am NOT alone!.......2006-07-16
It is refreshing to look at the reviews and find that others have had the same frustrations with this book as I have. Yes, I agree the color photographs are absolutely beautiful and inspiring. They sure suck you in and are a powerful tool to entice you into buying the book. The artist is wonderfully creative with her use of the pentagon, hexigon and out-of-the-mainstreem starting shapes which makes this book so unique.
It is definitely NOT for the beginner. The first flower I tried was the pansy. I have been a paper sculptress for years. I love origami, tea bag folding and just about anything having to do with paper. I had to seek the help of my Mensa member father in order to get this one right! I was ready to hold a book burning party and roast marshmallows over this one!
If you do not use a thin enough paper you will have problems with some of the folding. Some areas get folded so many times that the piece becomes almost too thick to fold and I was using plain old printer paper.
If you love a challenge, go for it! I certainly do not regret buying this book and I still pick it up from time to time just to see if my mind is more open to the techniques it presents. Hats off to those who found the instructions "easy to follow." I certainly was not one of them. If you need a reason to slit your wrists I highly recommend this book (hehehehehe - just kidding). Good luck!
Me no likey.......2006-04-06
Well, I shouldve done more research on this book, but I don't like it because it requires too many other things to be used other than oragami paper. And sometimes the images of the pictures didnt seem very accurate, so i got confused a lot.
Not Easy, but worth the challenge!.......2005-08-24
I did not have much experience with paper folding, so the designs in this book are quite a challenge. Most diagrams are easy to figure out but there are several which had steps missing from them, but in general they are easy to understand, though by no means easy to fold, since this book seems like its targeted at the more experienced people intersted in origami. Of the designs that I managed to make, they did come out exactly as they looked in the book, and the unique concept of using not square pieces of paper but pentagons, hexagons and octagons, is really an eye opener.
Flowers + Supplies required.......2005-08-21
This book has a beautiful assembly of flowers and arrangements. However, this is not just paper folding. You will need an assortment of other supplies to complete the projects. Most of them are easy to find in your local craft store.
Book Description
For amazingly easy gift wrapping, boxes that neatly and prettily hold all those assorted small items, cards with magical design and structure, and lots more, simply start folding. Every facet of this elegant and traditional art is revealed here, from the standard tools to the basic folds to the most unusual materials. “A beautiful book, filled with inspiring projects...Excellent line-art diagrams.”—Somerset Studio.

book in unexpected condition.......2005-07-03
The book arrived promptly. However, some of the signatures were falling out which I had not expected.
The best non-origami based paper folding book.......2004-02-02
This book is so great I keep hoping they will come out with a sequal. Here's why:
1. The directions are extremely well written which makes even the more difficult projects relatively easy.
2. The projects are innovative and creative -- not your typical origami book.
3. Many of the projects are good for gifts -- especially the light catchers made of translucent vellum paper and the christmas ornaments.
Overall, this book gets two thumbs up.
Delightful!.......2002-09-26
Fun and easy projects for young and old. Wonderful 'handmade' card ideas I'm anxious to use during the coming years.
Customer Reviews:
Desgins are awesome.......2005-06-19
This book is rather hard to read due to the lack of contrasting colors, even though I rated it 4-star. Other than that, it has fabulous designs. Even beginners would find the book satisfying and gratifying.
If you like making greeting cards, buy this book........2001-11-10
If you want to send cards that will NEVER be thrown away, try these easy to follow patterns and instructions. There is one pattern that pops out to reveal the word "PEACE". Due to the recent Sept. 11 events, this could be a card used for many years to come. Aloha from Hawaii, Vicki Lynn Soule'
Pop up Greeting Cards.......2000-05-01
This was a rather more difficult book than the others by Chatani and by Chatani and Nakazawa, but the designs are exceptionally lovely even to see. I'd recommend the other volumes to start: Pop-up Cards, Paradise of Origamic Architecture, Paper Magic, and White Christmas.
"One of our favorites" Fred Showker, DT&G Magazine..........1999-09-07
It's a real shame this book is not readily available... it's one of the best books available for the craft of folded paper creations. ***1) will spark your imagination, and reinforce your skills ***2) will give you hours of creative enjoyment. PLUS: the pieces you create from this book will be treasured, and kept by the recipient. ... I cannot recommend it too much to anyone who likes making things with paper!
it was fantastic.......1998-07-18
anyone who ever receive these kind of cards will really be touched and it is really special

great book!.......2005-03-14
I've bought many origami books leaving me baffled and ready to give up. This book was very different. The diagrams were much clearer. It has a large variety of models, and a section devoted to creating your own models.
Exellent Book.......2003-05-29
This was one of the first origami books I bought. I started origami about 2 weeks ago and I tried about 10 of the models in this book and I had no problems. My favorie models are the T. Rex and Chimpanzie.
Creative origami.......2001-07-31
I don't own this book but I borowed it from a friend. This book has crystal clear diagrams and instructions. It also has alot of models that are intresting expecialy the masks. If you want a good origami book you should consider buying this one.
Excellent source for creative forms........1999-09-08
I love this book for it's creative ideas. I especially enjoyed folding the eagle, its three dimensional result is a joy to view. There is a bit of cutting on some forms (which I don't like), but the variety of forms and the creative layouts more than make up of this....
Excellent Intermediate Folds........1999-03-12
This lengthy and detailed book is excellent for intermediate folders. However, more experienced folders may not appreciate the fairly frequent cutting and heavy usage of traditional bases.
Still, the book really is CREATIVE and includes an entire chapter on origami creative method.
Customer Reviews:
Good book for elementary age kids.......2005-02-27
This book is 32 pages of very simple paper folding. It should get 5 stars for a child user and 2 stars for adults. It appears to be best suited for use as an arts and crafts book for children with adult supervision. I intend on using in arts and crafts activities with nursing home residents. If you are interested in paper folding for your own pleasure get something more challenging.
Great Book for All Ages.......2003-11-26
I love this book and have used it for years. I've used it with my grandchildren and with my adult students as part of a craft workshop. Everybody loves it. The directions are easy, the projects fun. I'd recommend one for every kid in the family from two to 92. (Hill is author of the mystery novel The Dead Angel.)
GOOD FOR AGES FROM 9-ADULT ALSO IF YOU WANT QUICK AND EASY.......1999-08-08

Book Description
Basic Accounting Fresh From the Lemonade Stand
The world of accounting can be intimidating. But, more often than not, there's no way to avoid it--even non-financial jobs venture into financial jargon and concepts. For those trying to get more done at the office, organize the dollars and cents in a small business or just in need of a refresher, there's no reason to turn to the average number-crunching class again.
The Accounting Game presents financial information in a format so simple and so unlike a common accounting textbook, you may forget you're learning key skills that will help you get ahead!
This book uses the world of a kid's lemonade stand to teach the basics of financial language and records. You'll run your own lemonade stand and make it grow by creating signs to advertise it, borrowing money from Mom, buying lemons and sugar and selling to the whole neighborhood. As you run your stand, you'll begin to understand and apply financial terms and concepts like assets, liabilities, earnings, inventory and notes payable, plus:
--Know the difference between accrual vs. cash accounting methods
--Create and understand an income statement and balance sheet
--Track inventory using LIFO and FIFO
--Create cash statements and understand cash flow and liquidity
--Apply your new knowledge to real-life situations
The revolutionary approach of The Accounting Game takes the typically mundane subjects of accounting and business finance and makes them something you can easily learn, understand, remember and use!
The Accounting Game is produced by Educational Discoveries, the training industry's leader in accelerative learning technology. More than 70,000 people have graduated from The Accounting Game, the world's most successful one-day financial seminar.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Accounting Book!.......2007-09-17
This book is interesting and entertaining while teaching what is normally a very dry subject. There is enough review for a non-financial type to learn the jargon without being monotonous.
The best accounting book ever, but still suffers some of the same problems as bad accounting books.......2007-08-06
This is an easy, excellent accounting book. It's the best accounting book ever. The examples are clear and understandable. It's fun to read. It gives definitions that you'll remember, and is an excellent overview of accounting.
However, I'm only giving it three stars because it suffers from something that most accounting books suffer from: impossible examples.
This book is done like a worksheet. It's about half simple instruction and half impossible examples. The examples are impossible, because to actually fill them out, you'd have to remember tons of information from 1-10 pages ago. The part where you just read is very good. The part where you're supposed to fill out the account schedules on the pages of the book is almost impossible to do by yourself.
It would be an excellent workbook to be used in a 10-day accounting class, where you write in your book as the teacher writes in his or her book. But, if you're trying to do this on your own, you really would need to keep track of tons on numbers and receipts, etc., to even be able to do the examples.
Dry subject explained in an interesting way........2007-07-19
If you are not an accountant and need to know accounting concepts then this is the book for you. A dry subject explained in an easy and interesting way.
Great BooK.......2007-06-08
This book was very helpful in learning the basics of accounting, I highly recommend this book.
It works!!.......2007-04-02
I learned more about accounting through this book than I did through my college course! I wish I had found this book before I took the class but since I need accounting in my job, better late than never :)
I like the simplified explanations and straight thought
