INTERESTING.......2006-02-01
This book varies slightly from the same type of book that is currently out now by M.F. Steen "Celebrity Death Certificates" volumes 1 & 2, in that others besides film people have their death certificates copied here. I love this book!!
Book Description
Literally the last word for Hollywood trivia buffs, a celebrity death certificate is also strangely compelling. Its matter-of-fact reportage makes the famous ordinary, illuminating previously well-lit profiles with the unfiltered light of the everyday. A death certificate may also reveal information that stars assiduously concealed, such as actual birthdates. In California, home to many of Hollywood's brightest stars, death certificates are a matter of public recordand consequently an untapped mine of information.
This follow-up to M.F. Steen's previous collection (2003) reproduces in full 169 of the death certificates of the entertainment industry's dearly departed. Brief biographical notes are included, listing birth and professional name as well as notable film, TV and entertainment credits. Mel Blanc, Lorne Greene, John Ritter, Gregory Peck, and Ronald Reagan are just a few of Hollywood's notables whose death certificates are collected here.

FASCINATING READ...AWESOME!.......2006-01-11
Celebrity Death Certificates 2 is a FASCINATING read....I couldn't put it down. It's a lengthy collection of celebrity death certificates from the Marx Brothers to Johnny Carson. Nothing is deleted including social security numbers and cause of death information. I felt like I was looking at something I wasn't supposed to see -- what a great feeling! Sorry all these celebrities had to die for me to enjoy this book, but...oh, well!
Book Description
Marilyn Monroe died at 36. Her death certificate lists "Acute Barbiturate Poisoning. Ingestion of Overdose" as the cause. Just below that line, you can see that the person who issued her death certificate typed "Probable Suicide." Many people question whether her death was a suicide, an accident, or possibly a homicide.
A death certificate is an intriguing document. It encapsulates a person's life story on one pagethe birthplace, parents, education, length of career, residence, time, place, and cause of death and finally, what happened to the remains. The information required for a death certificate can vary since each state looks at it differently. California regards them as public documents. Texas and New York makes them available only to family members and others showing a direct need. Satisfying curiosity is not considered a need.
John Belushi, John Denver, George Harrison, Truman Capote, "Fred and Ginger" and Frank Sinatra are just a few of the 182 Hollywood notables from the Silent Era to today whose intriguing death certificates are collected herefascinating!

Just What It Says.......2006-02-01
This book is just what it says...celebrity death certificates. The one reviewer doesn't know what he's saying when he says it's a waste and the entries are blurry. It isn't true. Some of the certificates are OLD and handwritten and when copied this makes it sometimes tough to decipher but generally this isn't the case. If you have some medical knowledge, etc. you're way ahead. And if you love collecting death certificates as I do this is a wonderful book to have as there are so many bound together. You will find yourself looking for one, but keeping turning the pages to check out others. I spend a half an hour or more everytime I pick it up.
Bare Bone Facts About Celebrity Death.......2005-06-18
"Celebrity Death Certificates" takes a VERY different approach to examining the deaths of numerous celebrities by providing simple clean copies of their actual death certificates. I enjoyed reading these legal documents, which I found easy to decipher, for their bare bone facts. Steen's legwork saved me time and money digging them up on my own; there are literally thousands of dollars worth of documentation in this volume if one wanted to start a similar collection. Steen, a death care professional, refrains from making editorial comments which works nicely within this format. The array of celebrities is diverse, 182 in all, and he includes many "posthumous reunions" such as the cast of "I Love Lucy," husband and wife teams like Ozzie & Harriet Nelson and George Burns & Gracie Allen; dueling gossip columnists Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons; the list goes on and on. This book stands out as THE conversation piece on my Hollywood history library shelves. I'm looking forward to purchasing and perusing Vol. 2 later this year.
Save your money.......2004-02-05
What a waste of money. The copies are blurry and in many cases illegible. It would help if there was some kind of guide to tell you what the questions being answered are. Also don't rely on the short biographies at the end as there are mistakes.
FASCINATINGLY MORBID.......2003-08-13
Mr. Steen takes you glimpsing into the origin of Hollywood personalities that have recently died and those deaths of long ago.
Frankly, it's riveting enough that once you start reading it-you can't put it down.
You find yourself poking through the private information contained in the death certificate and skimming through the bios and history of the deceased.
Can't wait for the sequel!
A Walk Down Memory Lane.......2003-08-13
For any baby boomer, this book is a walk down memory lane for all the folks who kept us clued to the television or entertained us in movie theaters during our growing-up years.
It is one of those books that you hate to admit to anyone that you just couldn't put it down. As you go from page to paget, each name on a death certificate sparks a memory and many times brings a smile.
The biography at the end is a help too. I am gald that they did not try and put each one of the same page as the death certificate. That would have been a distraction from the certificate itself.

Bundle of Joy.......2006-12-05
I Never Felt This Way Before, etc. al., October 8, 2006
Reviewer: Betty Burks (Knoxville, TN) - See all my reviews
This is the movie I could not get enough of when it was showing in the Tennessee Theatre and later on t.v. It is a great Christmas movie. "All About Love" and "Someday Soon" were the standouts of the movie, but "I Never Felt This Way Before" showed an innocent Eddie, which was the opposite of what he actually was at that time. Debbie out-acted him as she was experienced (my, was she ever!) but she could not out-sing him ever. "Tammy" was a fluke. I have all three original albums, but I actually wrote to the movie studio wanting to buy the movie, was told they did not sell them to individuals. My, how times have changed! Eddie was so loveable, it's a shame it was all a sham, but so was their
marriage on and off the screen
Very Dissappointing!.......2000-10-21
I would have to agree with the anonymous writer from Florida on most accounts. I choose to give this one star instead of two because of the wasted potential this book could have been. Any amateur could have written such a simple summary of the careers of Billy Joel, Simon & Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, etc. Pete Fornatale is giving us nothing new there.
In addition, Fornatale frequently fails to even quotes the lyrics of the songs acurately. His expansion on the song's true meanings are suspect at best. As a disc jockey for many years, he could've provided some interesting insight on what each song-writer was trying to say in his song lyrics. However, Fornatale merely goes off on every possible tangent to illustrate all possible meanings each song could have. This makes the book very painful to read and quite unfocused.
On top of all the incessant ramblings, Fornatale's analysis is very questionable. In his analysis of the Rolling Stones, Time Waits For No One, Fornatale misleads the readers thinking that if you blow an opportunity to succede in life, another one will come along only with different players. Whereas that may indeed in happen in life, the song merely gives the message to make the most of all your opportunties because they don't last for you, me, or anyone. The analysis for Presence of The Lord doesn't hit the point as well. Having read a book analyzing Eric Clapton's songs, the meaning behind Presence Of The Lord is that Eric who never was a religious man just wanted to Thank G-d for the little things in life. Mr. Fornatale's lack of research caused him to miss the mark again.
The premise of this book was to show that Rock N Roll wasn't just about sex, drugs, and rock n roll. Yet, Fornatale includes the Rolling Stones song Satisfaction in this book. This signature Stones song is clearly written from the point of view of someone who is just looking for sex, drugs, and rock n roll. What about the line,"He Can't be a man because he don't smoke the same cigarettes as me". Its obvious what kind of Cigarettes he's referring to. The last verse refers to Mick trying to find some girl to score with. Mr. Fornatele, you should be embarrased to include this song as an uplifting wholesome rock n roll song.
On top of all that, the format for each brief chapter is oh so redundant. Why couldn't our author merely write a simple analysis without categorizing everything? It all sounds the same anyway.
For every good moment in this batch(there are a few most particularly pertaining to Bruce Springsteen) there are about three or four bad moments. Mr. Fornatale, I implore you to research your material before publishing your next book. Glance at this in the book store for a few minutes but don't bring it to the cash register.
Not what I expected.......2000-06-21
When I saw the title of this book, I expected a tongue in cheek exposition of classic rock songs and their "meanings". However, rather than being humorous, this book is quite serious. It is sort of like reading a secular version of "Our Daily Bread" or other religious devotional guide. Each entry has a brief but interesting background on the artist and the song (the reason for two stars rather than one), followed by a reflection and some questions or exercises designed to put into practice the lessons taught by the songs. These reflection and question sections are overly serious and didactic, and it is the contrast between the somewhat "cute" concept behind the book, and the "preachy" tone of the meditations that makes it quite unsatisfying.
Great lyrical analysis.......2000-03-29
This book offers great insight and knowledge into many popular classic rock songs. Many of the life lessons and messages are obvious, such as the Beatles 'All You Need is Love' and Billy Joel's 'Just the Way You Are.' However, there are some songs analyzed by the authors whose meanings are not quite understood by the songs titles' and requires a deeper, more focsued listening. I love how the book makes mention of Bruce Springsteen's 'Badlands' in a positive manner...it truly is a song to get you moving and think positive. If you are a classic rock and roll fan, you will highly enjoy this book and the insight that it reveals about popular songs.

Best for a beginner.......2001-02-20
The majority of the book and the best content was related to games. It did not go into too much detail of decorating or favors, which is where the seasoned shower planner needs some new ideas. It had a brief description on themes, but should have had recipes related to those themes. I was disappointed in the food section, not much content. I have never heard that a mother-to-be should arrive at the shower before her guests? Good for games, that's about it.
Overall a limited book........2000-11-19
I was looking for something with an overall sense of throwing a shower. This book did not have everything I needed, lacking in food, budget, etc. If you are looking for something to give you ideas for every aspect of a shower, this is not the book for you.
Thin on nice ideas, silly games........2000-11-19
I was anticipating this being a very good book based on some reviews, but was very disappointed and outdated. It does have silly games - something I wanted no part of at the shower I threw. I was looking for someone to take me through the shower step by step, but this bood did not do so. I would not recommend this book, especially if you are starting from ground zero.
Overall a pretty good book........1999-04-27
I'd never thrown a baby shower before so I thought this book would help. It had some really good ideas in it, especially for games. The food ideas didn't sound too tempting and there was only 1 recipe for punch (I would of liked more). The game section was the best, so if you need game ideas this is the book. But if you need food ideas, I would suggest trying to find another book.
It was the perfect baby shower!.......1999-02-09
The ideas in here on food and games helped me the most. I could not believe how many compleiments I received during and after the shower. The decoration ideas were not helpful, but the games section truly made up for this!! I will continue to use this book!

In this compact disc edition of the totally revised underground bestseller -- The E-Myth, Michael Gerber dispels the myths surrounding starting your own business and shows how commonplace assumptions can get in the way of running a business. He walks you through the steps in the life of a business -- from entrepreneurial infancy, through adolescent growing pains, to the mature entrepreneurial perspective, the guiding light of all businesses that succeed -- and shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business, whether or not it is a franchise. Finally, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in your business. After you have listened to The E-Myth Revisited, you will truly be able to grow your business in a predictable and productive way.

Required reading.......2007-08-10
This is required reading for anyone considering going into business or currently in business for themselves, especially if their business is taking more of their precious time than they wished. You must know your numbers. It has been a real eye opener.

E Myth.......2007-07-11
My husband and I have learned a lot from this book. We knew these things before the book, but never really thought they would influence our business. Very informative and interesting.
Will Turn Your Head Around (like the girl in The Exorcist) .......2007-07-09
The E-Myth is essential business knowledge, and I wish I had had this wisdom 20 years ago. Gerber basically busts the old paradigm that being "good" at what you "do" - i.e., being a good "technician" - is the most important critical factor in having a successful small business. As Gerber correctly points out, you will crash and burn if you spend too much time working *in* your business and not enough time working *on* your business and seeing it as something separate from yourself.
What I found most helpful was his explanation of how having precise and thoughtfully crafted job descriptions and operational methodologies can make all the difference between making true progress and floundering on a day-to-day basis. Likewise that a mission tied to deeply held personal values, understood by *all* persons in the business - top to bottom-, is absolutely necessary. And likewise that clients (in my case) or customers want a consistent, positive experience that meets or exceeds their expectations every time they do business with you, especially if you're in a profession or a service business. Let me tell you, truer words have not been spoken. It's news you can use immediately.
Gerber reads the E-Myth (unabridged) on this CD set. His delivery is avuncular and warm, and apart from the "pie" theme (see below) didn't grate the way many author-read works do. What drove me crazy (and why this is a 4-star instead of a 5 star review) was the conceit of a running dialog between Gerber and a "client" named "Sarah" and her floundering small business called "All About Pies." The take-away from this is valuable, but cheeze lou-eeze! I kept imagining Jimmy Cagney in Public Enemy, washing the face of his whiny girlfriend with a grapefruit over breakfast, only here, I was rooting for "Sarah."
I have the book also. Trust me - go with the CDs.
The E-Myth Revisited CD : Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to do about it.......2007-06-06
The E-Myth Revisited CD set by Michael E. Gerber was long and kind of boring. But... it has some great ideas and if you can hang in there and take the time to listen, it has many great ideas for any business.
I asked a friend of mine that is very successful in business what single book he would recommend, he said E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber. He reads a lot of book and is very successful, so I thought I would purchase the CD set to listen while I was driving.
It has very good ideas; companies need to put in place systems and processes to be the most successful. Probably the best idea that I got out of the book was, "Go to work ON you business not IN your business". This single idea is very powerful and a key to any successful business owner or sales professional's success.

Amazon.com Audiobook Review
Michael Gerber's The E-Myth Revisited should be required listening for anyone thinking about starting a business or for those who have already taken that fateful step. The title refers to the author's belief that entrepreneurs--typically brimming with good but distracting ideas--make poor businesspeople. He establishes an incredibly organized and regimented plan, so that daily details are scripted, freeing the entrepreneur's mind to build the long-term success or failure of the business. You don't need an M.B.A. to understand or follow its directives; Gerber takes time to explain buzzwords and complex theories. Read in a clear and well-paced manner, listening to The-E Myth is like receiving advice from an old friend. --Sharon Griggins

The E-Myth Revisited.......2007-09-13
I highly recommend this book. I am a businessman and currently I own two small businesses. Since originally reading this book years ago I find myself buying copies for friends, associates and one person I just met between flights. After they read the book they tell me it is as if it was written about them, just as I felt. Once you get your small business running it is quite difficult to understand how the focus of your effort and your role in the business needs to change. This book helps you realize what your role should be and how to go about getting there. If you are like most small businessmen, working to many hours putting out fires instead of guiding the ship, this book will give you real world inspiration and guidance that you can actually apply.

Small biz aid.......2007-01-25
Great stuff and a must have - appears to be simplistic but after you really study Gerber's well articulated strategy carefully - it will then reveal its true value.
Nice Book.......2004-07-26
I have listened to this audiocasset over 20 times. My 5 year old business has left me wanting to close the doors and walk away. It leaves me with too little free time to enjoy life. This tape really hits home and makes you think about what a business really is and has opened my eyes. I have now started taking steps to change my business for good. Gerber believes your business should be apart from its owner and this makes perfect sense. I can't believe I haven't seen it before now. I have been a slave to my business for years and I need to set up a system so the business can run itself. My concentration should be making the system run smoothly and not the day to day work.
I can understand how this book doesn't make sense for somebody just starting a business. All the 'one star' ratings are understandable for those people. However, if your business is running your life and can't seem to figure out how to change it this book is for you. I love it and wish there was a follow up with more examples of successes.
A book in a million.......2004-02-28
I have never been a full-fledged business owner although I worked for one as his business fell apart. Had he had this book I might still have that job.
Gerber takes his cue from the fact that most small businesses close after less than five years. You'd think that facing these odds the world would be full of books on the reasons why and how to avoid them, but this is the first one I've seen.
As you read you'll be struck by his understanding of the people who set up business, and also by the clarity of his solution. Yes, to some degree it's an advertisment for his consulting services, but there's plenty of advice.
I feel that a local business I frequent is beginning to enter a period of decline, and I wish I knew the owner well enough to give him a copy.
Incidentally, I didn't notice any of the problems other reviewers have mentioned, and in one case the book went right over the head of of one.
I expect to re-read this book several times, and I'm looking at some of the other Gerber titles.
Mostly Common Knowledge And Fluff.......2002-03-21
If you picked up this book to help you build your existing business or build a new one, you might be disappointed. Since your thinking of starting your own business, then you should know that most small businesses fail within the first five years. The author hits on some reasons why they fail but most of these you already know. Do you know that if you are not organized, if you don't change or create new ideas or plans and become stagnat or if you force yourself to do every task yourself, your business will be limited in growth and may eventually fail? Right there is the first 25% of the book fit into one sentence. Then he goes onto his love affiar with turn key businesses. But when he starts talking about his favorite business it should make a reader nervous. He starts talking about the great sucess of McDonalds fast food restuarant franchise. McDonalds is a great success and one to be looked at carefully but not for the reasons he points out. It's apparent he has not been in a McDonalds all that often. He mentions that at McDonalds they depend on consistancy at all their chains. For example the fries stay in the fryer for ten minutes "a soggy french fry is not a McDonald's french fry". At any McDonalds a customer knows what to expect. Then he goes into mention that this is why McDonalds chain resturant is more successfull than those businesses that depend on trade name recognition. I'm sorry this throws a red flag. People eat there beacuse it is fast and it is [not expensive}, not becuase of consistant service. They make a large profit because they keep costs down. I do believe that McDonalds spends a large budget on trade name recognition, I have seen many commercials for McDonalds within the last year; particularly with the Olympics. This whole section undermines the rest of the author's book. If you know that a large section is misleading or biased it makes it difficult to listen to the rest the ideas without already being judgemental. I admit that I am not the smartest business person but its clear Michael Gerber isn't either.
