Book Description
Featuring 50 movie stills in full color, the only official tie-in to the Columbia Pictures film, written, produced, and directed by Academy Award®-winner Brian Helgeland (co-writer/co-producer of L.A. Confidential), starring Heath Ledger (The Patriot). This is the rousing story of lowborn William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) and his band of medieval misfits as they careen their way towards impossible glory. The fearless squire William, softhearted Roland (Mark Addy), hot-headed Wat (Alan Tudyk), Kate the blacksmith (Laura Fraser), and an itinerant writer/storyteller named Geoff Chaucer (Paul Bettany) join forces in a story that's part romance, part road trip, part exuberant swashbuckler. This unique Newmarket Shooting Script® edition includes the film's complete shooting script, an introduction written especially for this book by Brian Helgeland, an exclusive 24-page color photo album with 50 photos, and full film credits.

A Must Read if You Loved the Movie!.......2003-02-18
Written by the screenwriter and director of "A Knight's Tale" this book provides a fascinating insider's look at the film's creation. The 24 page photo album includes rare candid shots of the film's cast and crew.
The story is a classic underdog tale with likeable characters. I particularly enjoyed reading the scenes that were ultimately not included in the film. Although I have watched the movie several times... these passages added a depth to the characters that made kept the storyline fresh for me.
Any fan of the movie will relish the complete presentation.......2001-10-18
The romantic film A Knight's Tale was shot in Prague and here receives its own book which blends a 24-page color photo album of scenes with the shooting script for the film. Any fan of the movie will relish the complete presentation.
He Will Rock You.......2001-07-02
This was an awesome movie that I absolutely loved, so of course, I had to buy and read the screen play. Brian Helgeland was a brilliant author to create such a wonderful and fun script that everyone could enjoy. It was one of the funniest movies I ever saw and the script was also, undoubtedly hilarious. This story has it all: action, comedy, and romance. A story to please all.
A Knight's Tale - Best Movie ever.......2001-05-06
A Knight's Tale. I haven't actualy seen the movie, but I have read the script. It's amazing!! It is funny, interesting, romantic and clever. It tells the story of William Thatcher(Heath Ledger), who is a peasant and the son of a thatcher. When the Knight that William is under the employment of, suddenly dies right before he is supposed to joust, William must joust in his place. Although only himself, and his two friends Wat and Roland, know that it is him jousting and not the real night. You must be of noble blood to compete. Suprisingly, William wins and finds that he is a natural at jousting. He decides to go to a big jousting tournament in a few weeks, under the alias of Sir Ulrich Von Lichtenstein. Wat and Roland help train him and get him ready to joust, and they go to the tournament. There William sees the girl of his dreams, Jocelyn (Shannon Sassomon), and will do anything to win her heart. When he's jousting, he beats everybody there except Count Adhemere(the "bad guy" in the movie). William swears that he will beat Adhemere next time he jousts him. The plot goes on, there are some interesting twists and you meet some more neat characters. This is a really great movie, and this script is easy to read. You will LOVE "A Knight's Tale"!! Don't miss it!!

Book Description
Ragging It takes the reader on a lively, historical journey back to the days of vaudeville, fancy women, amusement parks, lynch mobs, saloons, and cabaretsa time when the upbeat music of ragtime was a craze that permeated our culture.
Author H. Loring White, a former history professor, focuses on the vastly contrasting biographies of Theodore Roosevelt and Scott Joplin, while showcasing the uniqueness of ragtimethe first popular syncopated music of the masses. In 1900, times began to move more quickly. With citizens no longer isolated on farms, ragtime was eagerly accepted by the world's first generation of popular culture, which also reveled in cakewalks; coon songs; and animal dances, such as the Grizzly Bear, Turkey Trot, and Bunny Hug. White recounts true stories about show business, political events, the repression of African-Americans, the world's fairs, and the triumphs of technology.
Although ragtime disappeared abruptly in just a few years with the emergence of jazz, White never lets you forget the vital role that ragtime played in the Progressive Era of American culture. With its new and vital interpretation of the Roosevelt era, he will take you back to a lively time in history when everyone was Ragging It!

H. Loring White Takes on the "Big Picture" of the Ragtime Era.......2006-07-08
H. Loring White is a retired history professor with a deep but unflinchingly honest love for America's Progressive Era, its accomplishments, the changes it brought to our lives, and its uplifting, sexy, innovative music. In this engrossing book, White takes us on a compelling cultural and historical tour of America in the two decades leading up to WWI. Ragtime music and the lives of ragtime era musicians are highlighted, but White is also after the big stories--who we were, who we are, and how things came to be. Hence there are chapters about everything from Teddy Roosevelt to transportation, prostitution, race relations, amusement parks, and vaudeville. As overreaching as this may seem, by combining multiple historical threads in alternating chapters, and by pulling no punches, White creates an exceptionally clear picture of this not-so-distant era. At the same time, he nicely pulls together and clarifies much of the best research and current thinking about ragtime music and ragtime musicians. It is to our benefit and delight that he has achieved this in a manner that is well documented, concise, and highly readable.

Kirigami 6.......2001-07-01
This book is the sixth book in a series of eight. This book contains 24 patterns of classic Japanese designs. These design motifs resemble the "mon" or family crests first used for identification on the battlefield beginning in the 12th century and later becoming family crests. I have used these designs to decorate boxes and then decoupage them for my friends.

Origam 7: Fun With Paper Folding.......2001-07-01
Book number seven in this series includes designs by Atsuko Nakata and Kazuo Kobayashi. Several of these designs I have never seen before. For example the seagull, the witch and her staff, and the bird presented in this book for the bird mobile. This book also includes a simple beverage coaster, a swan, a picture frame, an elf, and a monkey. I enjoyed making the models I had never seen before.
Origami 8: Fun With Paper Folding.......2001-07-01
Origami 8 has a variety of simple models such as a purse and hat, and complicated models such as a dinosaur and the rooster and hen with their red cockcombs. Adults and children will find this book challenging. Some of the other models included are; flying fish, a tulip with leaves, an umbrella-wheel, and a ribbon for a little girls hair.

Customer Reviews:
Thinking Strategically.......2007-09-27
This book was short and interesting. Not only does it give points on thinking startegically for business but also in your daily life.
GT Is In Everyday Life.......2007-07-19
"Thinking Strategically" is a helpful and likeable primer for those who want to dabble and/or learn about general everyday concepts of Game Theory. It's also for those who don't want to get too deep into the minutia of the mathematics, calculus, and statistical probability of Game Theory. The real-life examples and matrices used in this book are applied by the author and can be applied by anyone in many everyday-life scenarios: getting a cab, negotiating private contracting work, or general bargaining, for example. In Business, whether two competing magazines should both advertise, have only one advertise, or have both not advertise. (Better for both not to advertise.) Cartels are also examined.
Other matrices, examples, and anecdotes, are applied in this book in business, politics, and sports. E.g., the strategy of an NFL football team's offense and defense, Stalin's "Scorched Earth Defense," and how a pitcher rotates his pitching selection are explained quite well, as examples. It seems a good portion of human instincts and traits are involved in the aspects of Game Theory. We already intuitively know about these elements before reading this introductory book. But we can apply GT with more awareness after being exposed to the theory.
The renown concept of the "Prisoner's Dilemma:" If two suspects work together they can both mutually benefit themselves together and individually by cooperating. Obviously, this is partly why suspects are separated when they're questioned and interrogated. But they can still both cooperate, even if separated. But will one sell out the other, or will both sell out each other, leading to longer sentences and harsher penalties for both, because one or the two of them decided to use the most Dominate Strategy?
In Game Theory, it takes two to Tango. And most of the time it's not beneficial to play the "Dominant Strategy."
One of the many examples was the taxi driver who picked up two people (potential customers) in front of a hotel. After telling the driver where they wanted to go, the driver refused to turn on his meter and said he would charge a lower price than the meter because he liked the country where the passengers were from. The driver the stated the price he would charge. The passengers responded by asking the driver to turn on the meter, and at the end of the ride the driver could charge less than the meter. Ah-ha, but the driver didn't agree. And even grew grew angry and didn't take them. They later proved he was being disingenuous by taking a metered taxi to their destination which was the lower than than the "special discount" offered by the first guy.
One important point above: it's difficult to use Game Theory with a) irrational people and b) people who don't realize the win-win concept of mutual benefits. Unfortunately reality creeps in....when you deal with people who don't practice "Game Theory," who shoot themselves in the foot and waste your time and energy.
Internationally IMO, Game Theory is lacking and sorely needed in certain parts of the world. In Japan this book sold well. Unfortunately it didn't sell much in the surrounding nations.
One of the author's former students recommended this book to me. The author made an astute decision to change the spelling of his name. College undergrads can be puerile at times. :)
A good book. "Look ahead and reason back."
Good Introduction to game theory.........2006-12-31
Although this is a good introduction to game theory, I have to say that half of the book was interesting, the rest was a difficult reading (maybe it was just me but I couldn't focus in some chapters). The good thing about the book is that it change your way on dealing with situations and decisions, always rethinking on the steps to follow.
Changes your perspective.......2006-12-22
This is a good book if you want to pass your everyday decisions through a game theory lense. The reading is dense at times but it has enough memorable stories to draw on at a later time.
If you are looking for a solid introduction to strategic decisions that consider the competitive landscape, then this book is a good choice.
Intro to Game Theory.......2006-10-11
This book is an outstanding introduction to game theory -- free of jargon and mathematics. Concepts are illustrated through examples taken from business, politics, sports, and everyday life. If you'd like to anticipate what people/groups will do, and understand why, read this book.
