This book has the best and extensive review of many movies that have been ever been released. Other books don't live up to the hype. I have been using various editions of this book for several years.
Tons of material, but. . . .......2005-04-14
With the Videohound, it's easy to look up information on your favorite director, who won the Golden Raspberry for Worst Song last year, or even that obscure film that came out in 1967 that no one saw. Yes, there's tons of film information, but all too often, the reviewer tends to give lots of credit to smaller films and mainstream cinema, while midcard classics (Bonfire of the Vanities, i.e.) are slammed relentlessly. I also would prefer more wit put into the average review, which Videohound seems to promise but doesn't live up to.
Cult fanatics be warned, there are still many newer underground or "lesser" flicks that are not even given a nudge in this pulication, and although there may be 26,000+ reviews included, who on Earth wants to see another 4-star Citizen Kane review that reeks of conformity? Regardless, this is still the most thorough out of the competition.

I've tried a lot of video guides over the years--including Mr. Maltin's--but VideoHound's Golden Movie Retriever is consistently the best (and biggest) of its breed. VideoHound has all the information any video fan could possibly want about any movie any video fan could possibly want to watch...and then some! The incredible indexing is also unmatched by any other guide: Look up a movie by title, actor, director, category, etc. This book makes finding the perfect video a breeze. It's also an incredible tool for answering trivia questions and settling bar bets. Believe me when I tell you that this book belongs in EVERY home that has a VCR, DVD player, or human beings residing within it's four walls. It's 1,655 pages worth of movie magic. Buy this book. NOW. You won't regret it!
Still the best, despite some quibbles.......2004-09-09
Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever has been around for a while now, and it has emerged as the most complete resource for looking up any movie available on VHS or DVD. It is practically indispensable for movie lovers. These days you can, of course, look up movies online, but there is no substitute to having a huge book on your desk that you can leaf through at any time.
Browsing through the 2005 edition, I looked up some notable films from the last few years (I missed buying the last few editions; they simply take up too much space to get one every year!) and found myself a little annoyed at some of the reviews. I don't know if this is a change from earlier editions, but I feel that the reviewers seem to be catering to a mass audience and overrating some popular but ordinary films while giving short shrift to some very good films that don't appeal to a wide audience. In the latter category I'd include the brilliant animated Waking Life ("might not appeal to many people except philosophy majors, computer geeks, or chemically altered college students"), Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas ("It's most definitely a one-of-a-kind trip, but not one that most people will be willing to make") and Luc Besson's The Professional ("a little too Lolita-ish for comfort"). These reviews to me display an almost patronizing tone, warning mall audiences away from potentially off-color material. This is, perhaps, one of the drawbacks of being too popular.
Despite my disagreement with some of Videohound's reviewers, I still have to rate the book highly. It's a superb and unmatched reference book. You can look up movies by title, cast, director, writer or category. It's also fun to browse through the many sub-categories they've identified; just turning to a page at random, I find "Red Scare," Reefer Madness," "Renegade Body Parts," "Repressed Men" and "Rescue Mission," and that's just a small sampling of the "R's." I recommend Videohound's to anyone who watches, writes, directs or reviews movies --just don't take their opinions as gospel.

Not the Greatest, just special ..........2005-12-26
The case on this calendar said exactly what it was upfront. It was not meant to be a list of the greatest movies ever made. In fact, it gave the movies it discussed a rating from 4 "bones" (including halves) all the way down to "WOOF!". It points out movies that are unique or worth seeing for one reason or another. After all, who wants a list of the same thing you see everywhere else? Do I need to be told that Schindler's List was a 4-star movie yet again?? No, but a mention of "The Fast Runner" because it was the first Inuktitut-language feature film was something you might not read elsewhere. I just hope I can find a similar calendar for 2006.
Scary, damn scary..........2005-02-11
As a calendar this product is top notch, it accurately tells you the date. As for the content on this page-a-day calendar well... By January 10th, when they recommended [...]Bulletproof Monk as a must see movie I knew something was wrong. Suffice it to say that while this calendar serves its purpose (telling the date) it has also become a comedic, light-hearted laughfest at the beginning of the day.

FAQs are Better.......2005-06-11
I don't just say this because I wrote a FAQ for this game, but I am an experienced gamer at SFOS. Early on in my gameplay, I decided to flip through this one day after trying to get through the game with some FAQs online and having a bit of the same types of troubles. I thought for sure this would be more helpful.
Aside from the "pretty pictures" and lists/charts, this really didn't have anything useful like you'd expect. Besides, there are too many free FAQs online (mine included) that are just as (if not more) helpful. Some of them aren't any more detailed, but at least have their stuff straight.
Heck, by the time you get to Yemen 1 you should be able to get the neck snap and not worry about the knife. But yeah, the sniper rifle in the tunnels you can use anywhere, so long as nobody sees you...

An open letter to writers Mark Androvich and Greg Off: This is without a doubt one of the worst strategy guides I've ever used.
The consensus is that Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain is an incredibly difficult game, so a strategy guide is essential for those of us who don't fancy spending four hours trying to solve one part of a video game.
To give this book a little credit, I was able to follow 50 per cent of the general directions on when to go where in the game. But the layout and writing are so horrible that I ended up sitting there, with the game on pause, desperately trying to interpret what the writers truly meant when they wrote a certain passage. I'm not talking grammar or syntax here; I'm talking about "right" when it should have been "left"! After about two levels in the game I realized that the writers' sense of direction is plain wrong and began exploring the game on my own, using the book only as a loose tour book, and that helped. They also adore giving you the second-worst solution to many of the activities: Their recommendation to use the K-bar knife on Thae-bok Jon in the Yemen Arms Bazaar cost me 10 replays of the game until I realized you could simply shoot him with a silenced rifle. Aren't strategy guides supposed to spare you the pain by giving you the easiest, quickest solution? If I'd listened to my own instincts, I would have finished the level long ago.
I'm still using this guide to help get past this overly difficult, design-flawed game. Without any kind of signpost, this game is just too nonlinear and confusing to warrant a try. However, having to "interpret" the writing, and wade through the bad advice, is something a reader of a strategy guide shouldn't ever have to do. A very bad job, Mr. Androvich and Mr. Off.

yes, although you can find on the internet most of the information in this book, the organization and pictures really help out in a tight spot.
I've seen way too many FAQ's with atrocious grammar and run-on sentences that span two pages per game level! But then again, if you're tight on cash you can skip this book.

You have been warned! Prima simply can not publish a good strategy guide. I have been sorely, sorely disappointed by every single Prima guide I have ever bought or read. A Secret agents best friend.......2002-03-14
When I purchased Syphon Filter 2 (One of the best PX1 games) I had no idea how much I would need this guide on my quest to save the world. This is a incredibly clear, amazingly detailed, absoloute must have guide that you will need to get through the game. The Screenshots are really crisp, the tips are top notch and the whole thing is really easy to understand. There really is no way to explain how good this is. On the downside, they do leave out some unmentioned bad guys in a lab escape level that will almost certianly kill you if you try to get a seret in that level. Go out and buy it now.

Flawed, but useful........2000-04-05
Having finished Syphon Filter 2 on my own (and not without difficulty) and gotten the book after the fact, I find the secrets revealed in this book wonderful, but some of the strategies questionable. For example: - At the rate the book recommends, you won't have enough crossbow bolts in the Aljir Prison Break-in level; - Use the .45 in the Gregorov level? It's slow, noisy, and not very accurate -- hardly the best for taking out the lights; - Chance is much more easily defeated than that long-winded strategy they describe -- simply manoeuvre by the chopper and you'll be fine; - The M-16 works much better against Morgan. Also, when you're stalling him, there's no reason you have to leave the first crate's cover at all. - There *must* have been another way other than the button sequence to open up the "Disc 1/2 Movies" secret -- I didn't have the sequence, but I had those movies opened up, and I don't even know how.
That said, the last page of the book alone is worth the price. Since the developers of Syphon Filter 2 have put in a generous number of secrets but made the requirements for the secrets very obscure (aside from "Girlie Magazine" and "Dirty Laundry", obviously!), that list was invaluable and allowed me to open up many more Multiplayer Arenas, even though I'll probably never use them. And the walkthroughs, if I had needed them, are quite detailed, with lots of screenshots so that you can compare where you are and find the right place by matching game to photo.
If only they'd also offered some cheats (invincibility or infinite ammo would be nice -- the thought of the "Hard Mode" of *this* ultrahard game shivers my skin). Still, well worth getting if you like Syphon Filter 2.
Good, but not the best........2000-03-26
This strategy guide had a lot of good qualities about it, but there could have been more. The information leaves out many things, but that can appeal to those of you who don't want too much to be given away. This book gave a very good low down on all of the weapons, the missions, and puzzles. It will appeal to many of you out there, but turn away others that look for minimal help from a strategy guide, but hey that's what a strategy guide is for! So for the price and the content this is the book to get!

I would read another 100 books in this series!
There are so many business books out there that offer complex theories and require a PHD to read.
Kenneth Blanchard created yet another easy to read classic that will help me not only grow my business and help my clients, it gave me some great lessons to share with my grandchildren too.
Full of practical, simple advice and stories that can help you identify the monkey business in your life, and get the monkeys off your back!

If your a mid-level manager and you need some basic supervisory skills training, this is the book for you. Excellent overview--it helped my work productivity from day 1, and a good entree into the rest of the One Minute Manager series.
Simple Lessons Concisely Presented.......2007-06-04
This book is a very quick read that describes some simple rules for managing better by not taking on other people's work. The authors explain that by doing things for your people you are not only making life harder on yourself, but also not actually doing an important part of your job, which is helping people develop. Anyone who manages (or who has a manager and needs to manage up) will benefit from the simple lessons, concisely presented. There are even lessons you can apply to the informal leadership roles many of us have such as parent, or someone involved in a community activity.

Since my first purchase of this book last year, I have recommended it to half a dozen people and received a promotion myself. It's so clear after reading and applying the teachings from this book, that so often as managers, we tend to do a lot of things well but unfortunately we are doing the wrong things at the wrong time. Being free to delegate and ensure that what we let go of is completed with the same level of expectation as we would put on it, is liberating to say the least. A must read if you are feeling too busy to do the things that are important to you outside your work a day world. Best management book I have read.
