5 out of 5 stars Rich in dialogue, characters are fun and vibrant!.......2005-12-16

First, the complete and correct title of this Terrance McNally play is Frankie an Johnny IN the Clair de Lune, not AT the Clair de Lune like some media states it. When the romantic Johnny sees a full moon, they make love and Frankie hears beautiful music, Johnny asks the radio DJ for a request and the DJ plays the classical Debussy's Clair de Lune" - moonlight mood.

Second, this 2-character play is best to remain as a play and not a Hollywood movie. Setting is in New York 1987. The characters spew profanities and engage in sexual language.

Released from prison, 48-year old Johnny gets a job as a short-order cook where 37 year old Frankie waits tables. Opening scene is the first date and the two having sex in her one-room apartment. Johnny is a pure romantic, the way he believes romance is to be, but he is rough and doesn't quite say things in a romantic way. He is very humorous.

Frankie starts out wondering what kind of a lunatic/maniac she brought home, and she is resistance and suspicious. At her age, she isn't easily taken in. The two share their commonalities, differences, dislikes, dreams, argue, make love, eat, talk, argue., etc. etc. Don't expect much too happen, the vibrant dialogue is great enough!

To get the full and complete portrayal of these characters, you need to read the play. Time after time, movie versions lose so much. This was excellent!.....MzRizz

4 out of 5 stars Expectations of Romance.......2005-11-17

When Terrence McNally's play premiered in 1988, Kathy Bates played the lead role of Frankie. In its recent Aug. 02-Mar. 03 run on Broadway, it resulted in a Tony nomination for Stanley Tucci. It is a hard-hitting two-character two-act study on our expectations of romance and our ability to believe something good can happen. Frankie is a twice-burned somewhat cynical waitress who has just had what she expects to be a one-night stand with co-worker cook Johnny. Johnny is a romantic who falls in love not only with Frankie but all of the possibilities of whom Frankie might be. Through the two acts, the couple trades jabs and expectations about where their "relationship" is or is not going. Johnny calls a local radio station and requests the most beautiful music, which the programmer selects as "Claire de Lune." The play takes the characters past disappointment in the hope that maybe true love can and will find them. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Frankie and Johnny.......2002-12-29

This is one amazing play! A two-man play, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune exceeds all expectations. The play is about a woman, Frankie, and a man, Johnny. They work together in a restaurant. She's a waitress, he's a cook. They meet but don't connect. The beginning of the play finds them in Frankie's apartment after making love on the night of their first date. Throughout the two-act play, the star-crossed lovers are faced with trying to salvage something that ought to last, and not self-destruct.

5 out of 5 stars One of the great American plays.......1999-10-18

This is not a book in the sense of a novel, it is a play. That is why there is so much "talking", or dialogue. I have studied this play intensively and it is so rich of true human emotion. The characters aren't glamorous. Their opposite personalities and views of love and romance turn "the last of the red-hot lovers" into the most unlikely couple. Still, you want the best for both of them. I love this play and consider it one of McNally's best.

2 out of 5 stars not very good.......1999-09-10

this book has virtually no plot and i wouldn't recomend it to anyone. it has to much sex and to much talk. it doesn't give much detail about the outward apperances and all i had to rely on was the pictures in the middle of the book

5 out of 5 stars Must have guide for the .Hack game........2007-05-13

A very useful and decent guide for the .Hack (dotHack) Outbreak (Part 3) game in the series. Useful if you are playing the game for the first time or going back through and trying to get to places and things that you may have missed the first time through. Has a section for walkthrough and stats on not only the characters in the game at this stage of the game, plus info and stats on weapons, armor, and enemies in the game.

        2 out of 5 stars Grump!!!.......2003-10-17

Generally, there's nothing to get particularly irritated about in a game guide, even this one. They fill out the story, provide maps and walkthroughs, catalogs of items, and explain the complicated bits if there are any. Many, like this guide come out pre-production of the US version of the game. Which means that small errors and differences are inevitable.

So what irritated me about this particular 'Strategy Guide'. Actually, it was several things, but the most glaring omission is any attempt at a weapons list. That doesn't sound like much, but this game has weapons galore, and they are often vital to solving a particular confrontation. When a guide tells you to select a weapon with good fire spells, and you have to paw through an entire collection of twin blades, it can get on your nerves.

This isn't what I would call a necessary guide - .hack//OUTBREAK is not a difficult game from the viewpoint of plot or monster slayage. If you play the game straight, you may miss some of the cooler weapons and armors and never get to beat the goblins, but you will win the game without anything unfathomable happening. In these circumstances a guide should amplify the experience, be something of a souvenir, and NOT forget to tell you some important things.

This guide falls a bit short. Not fatally, but just enough to be an irritant. Think twice before imbibing.

1 out of 5 stars closer, but still incomplete........2003-09-18

Sure, they added stuff like all the dvd keyword areas, and this time they got almost everything...

but they still didn't add a weapons list again.

David Maister, Charles Green, and Robert Galford--consultants on professional-service management and customer-relation issues--believe nobody can become successful as a business guru until they first gain the confidence of their clients. In The Trusted Advisor, the authors effectively build their case through anecdote and illustration, then relay a solid series of relevant suggestions applicable to both would-be consultants and those already active in the field. Among their most potent suggestions is a practical, five-step development process that encourages outsiders to engage clients by focusing attention on the issues and individuals at hand; listening both to what they say and what they leave unsaid; framing the immediate problem from their perspective; envisioning with them how a solution might appear; and committing jointly to the actions and resources that will bring it about. Also particularly useful is the examination of trust-building during four phases of a client-advisor alliance: at the time the relationship is consummated; during the assignment; after the assignment; and when "cross-selling," or establishing affiliations with the customer's associates. Boosting its utility, the book is filled with concise, easily adopted tips like "return phone calls unbelievably fast" and "always tell the truth and not what the client wants to hear." --Howard Rothman

        Book Description

In today's fast-paced networked economy, professionals must work harder than ever to maintain and improve their business skills and knowledge. But technical mastery of one's discipline is not enough, assert world-renowned professional advisors David H. Maister, Charles H. Green, and Robert M. Galford. The key to professional success, they argue, is the ability to earn the trust and confidence of clients. To demonstrate the paramount importance of trust, the authors use anecdotes, experiences, and examples -- successes and mistakes, their own and others' -- to great effect. The result is an immensely readable book that will be welcomed by the inexperienced advisor and the most seasoned expert alike.

4 out of 5 stars Good introduction on relationship management.......2007-09-16

Although I'm not yet finished with this book I like the structure and the comprehensive lists the authors provide.
Although relations and trust cannot be covered by lists it gives you a good tool to memorize the important issues.

A lot of the examples are backed by anecdotes so the readability of the book is good.

A must read for anyone in the consulting profession that is responsible for sales. A great primer for those interested in transitioning from a mere practitioner to a relationship consultant (Trusted Advisor).

5 out of 5 stars Changed my entire perspective.......2007-06-29

As a Sales mentor, I was looking to learn more on this subject, a very common topic for my client's salespeople. The book was terrific, well written, and hit very hard on the key message of what you need to do to build deep, long-term relationships. In fact, I am using what I learned withing days, and will noticeable results, both professionally and personally.

I have had a trusted relationship with a client CEO for 3 years, and this book is taking that to a new level. I deliver more, ask for less, and they are now pulling me in further into the family business.

Most dramatic, I contacted the author, and Charlie Green is befriending me, and becoming a source I can go to: trusted advisor. I am grateful for the experience.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful and true.......2007-05-18

A fantastic book. I'm lucky enough to be a trusted advisor to several families and I'm a big believer in the golden rule. Striving to do what's right and keeping one's personal ego out of relationships isn't always easy, but it's always rewarding. This book has some wonderful ideas and gives good, solid guidance on what it means to be trusted advisor and how to get there.

Do you know the two most important questions the CEO expects you to answer when you walk through the door? Do you know what the most powerful influencers of executive decision making are? What are the most important things the boss needs from you, constantly? Just how do you get to the table? What does it take to be a trusted advisor? What does being strategic really mean? Strategy remains one of the more mysterious aspects of achieving success. For many, being a strategist and trusted advisor to top management and leaders is considered to be the highest level of professional practice. James E. Lukaszewski, ABC, APR, Fellow PRSA, CCEP, is a strategist's strategist. During this 53-minute program, he will present many of his powerful methodologies. Every day, Jim coaches, teaches, and counsels trusted advisors to be more strategic to think and work at higher levels of competence and influence, with a management perspective. He coaches, teaches, and guides senior executives in their operational strategies, too. This professional development CD is about how to develop the management-oriented mindset, behaviors, and attitudes that attract management s attention and get you invited earlier into the decision-making process . . . before all the decisions have been made by the high-priced lawyers and outside consultants. There are seven distinct disciplines. It is also about how to get the boss to listen and incorporate your advice into the planning, execution, follow-up, and evaluation of major business activities and decision making. Here are some of the questions this program will address: 1. How do you engage a boss who doesn't communicate or care? 2. How do you engage a boss who knows it all? 3. How do you get to the table? 4. How do you stay at the table? 5. How can you get better control of the boss? 6. How can you have true influence over the boss? 7. What does it mean to think differently? 8. How do you get called in before all of the decisions are made? 9. What do you do once you get to the table? 10. What can you do to keep from getting shot down by the lawyers and management consultants? 11. What are some of the questions you should be prepared to answer? 12. What is strategy? What isn t strategic? 13. What is a manager's mindset? 14. Who are these people we call CEOs? During this intensive and energetic presentation, Jim will help you look inside yourself to identify how much of a strategist you may already be and what you have to accomplish to indeed become a truly effective strategic advisor. Book Description

Corporations, it seems, are always seeking the ""silver bullet"" that will create intimacy with customers. But most efforts fail from the moment they begin, say respected consultants, Tom Stevenson and Sam Barcus. The reason? Accountability for program leadership is placed on the sales force rather than on the executives and senior managers who have a more seasoned business perspective.

For the first time ever, Stevenson and Barcus outline the relationship-building processes used successfully by professional consulting firms. Sales professionals in other industries will learn never-before-published explanations and documentation regarding consulting firm approaches and techniques, including:

                      * Why top managers must lead the care and feeding of key relationships.

                      * An inside view of how consultants build long-term, trusted advisor relationships.

                      * The difference between creating demand and responding to bids-an important difference that sparks enduring relationships.

                      * Problem-solving techniques that can lead to deeper customer alliances.

                      * Why it's more important for a salesperson to be interested rather than interesting.

                      * A diagnostic process to prepare for and execute customer meetings that create value at every touch point.

                      * Tools and techniques to develop business acumen that provides insight into customer issues and initiatives.

With many practical examples, anecdotes, and coaching tips, The Relationship Advantage is required reading for executives or managers who know they should be driving key relationships but don't know how to do it.

5 out of 5 stars Clients Are Different than Customers.......2004-08-04

Tom is a great storyteller and does a nice job of blending consultative selling concepts with ready to apply advice. Although this may seem like a sales book its much more. It really is about how relationships make a significant difference on long term client loyalty.

5 out of 5 stars To really win in sales why not listen to those who have won.......2004-03-03

Tom and Sam are more than folks who write theory. They have lived what they are telling you at a levels that any sales professional set as their ultimate goal.

I have seen their strategy not only work, but have personally seen them execute it flawlessly. What was best about the experience for me was knowing that I could do it to. If you take this book to heart, you'll be unstoppable.

They take the sales thing one step further. They lead you into something even greater. How to have real, solid, and long lasting relationships in and beyond work. In life, this may matter much more than reaching quota. By the way, making quota is ok too!

Read this book and make it part of your approach to sales and just watch.
