Book Description
"Caution: You're about to enter a no-spin zone" is the warning with which Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly kicks off his no-holds-barred cable news program The O'Reilly Factor every night. O'Reilly is the reigning king of cable news, with a huge lead in the ratings, two best-selling books, and a nationally syndicated radio program.
O'Reilly's "no-spin" motto is clever marketing-but who's keeping track of O'Reilly's own spin? From his support for Bush's tax cuts and the war with Iraq to his attacks on everything from National Public Radio to "welfare mothers," O'Reilly often contradicts himself and consistently concocts evidence to support his conservative talking points.
His misguided opinions, stated as facts, are often simply wrong, such as his claim that the U.S. "gives far and away more tax money to foreign countries than anyone else . . . Nobody else even comes close to us" (per capita the U.S. is near the bottom of the list for developed countries). Other of his statements are deliberately inflammatory, such as his suggestion that we bomb Libyan civilians in the aftermath of September 11 ("Let them eat sand"). Weeks later O'Reilly denied the sentiment, though he has publicly stated that "If you're not providing controversy and excitement, people won't listen or watch."
Following in the footsteps of FAIR's hit book The Way Things Aren't: Rush Limbaugh's Reign of Error, The Oh Really? Factor will use facts, humor, illustrations, and comics to challenge the many absurd, outlandish, and just plain incorrect statements made on one of the U.S.'s most-watched "news" programs. Publication timed to coincide with O'Reilly's forthcoming book, Who's Looking Out For You.
Peter Hart is the activism director at FAIR (Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting), the national media watch group. He is also a co-host and producer of FAIR's syndicated weekly radio show CounterSpin.

Good Laugh.......2007-10-02
One thing that Bill O'Reilly always tells his viewer is to read the left, right and in between stuff...so I try to that, but books like this give me a stomach ache.
Since I have actually seen the shows Peter Hart drew his quotes from, I know they were often taken out of context or just not what O'Reilly said at all.
I don't always agree with O'Reilly, but I would rather have him "Looking out for me" than any politician or other pundit.
I often go back and check facts that he has presented, and he is usually right. If he's not, he'll come back the next day and apologize, then give the correct information.
This writer needs to learn what "Fairness" actually means, because he didn't give any of it to O'Reilly. But I guess it's easy to take pot shots at the people at the top.
I just really feel insulted that he thought he could pass this off as true information to people who actually watch the show...and just because an organization is called "Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting" doesn't mean that they don't have their own agenda or are not right out lying. This is the same man who has said that O'Reilly is a racist and that is totally untrue.
So read it and laugh if you want to, but take everything this man writes with a HUGE bit of salt!
Rile A Bully.......2006-09-11
I got rid of cable a few years ago and have not looked back. One thing I certainly do not miss is the plethora of talking heads, rightist and leftist, blathering on to no good effect. But one thing that seemed pretty clear from the few times that I did check in with the likes of Bill O'Reilly, Hannity and Colmes et al. was that this was more show biz than serious political debate or commentary.
But of course, some people--on both sides of the political spectrum--still take it all very seriously. And perhaps they should, after all, the influence that a Bill O'Reilly or an Ann Coulter might exert on their fans could prove considerable. And the results negative. Maybe. On the other hand, it's instructive to keep in mind that nobody seems to even remember Morton Downey these days. Or Joe Pyne.
A book like this may serve as a good reminder that O'Reilly lays on the misinformation on pretty thick and that his is really anything but a "no-spin" zone. But, as others have already opined, it's really not about to change anybody's mind. Neither Bill nor his fans will never concede that his misrepresentations are anything more than minor errors. Just as Al Franken could never get much mileage from his revelation that O'Reilly never really won a Peabody. It was an honest mistake insist the converted. And hey, if the subsequent loofah allegations (that emerged a year after the publication of this book) couldn't bring O'Reilly down, then nothing can.
Except maybe time itself, which just may consign him, along with Downey, to the dustbin of media history.
Good for quite a few chuckles and even and big ol' laugh or three.......2006-05-21
This book was published three years ago, but the material in it was as funny as I could have hoped for. It gave me exactly what I had needed, as I had just finished "The Assassin's Gate" and was not exactly feeling chipper about the world. But the buffoonish O'Reilly is simply hilarious (in small doses....and of course in print, not live).
Who else could say, about Katie Couric, whose husband had died of cancer four years prior: "As she gets older, she is much more attractive in every way. She has a dignity after surviving personal traumas. That's what I look for. That's sexy in a way we were never told about." Um, well that's actually quite icky and NOT a good example.
But how about this: "I think you have to drug test everybody on welfare." On the 2000 Florida recount: "The process is being abused and manipulated by people who will not accept the verdict in the state of Florida as it was put forth by machines." On homosexuals in America: "That's my advice to all homosexuals, whether they're in the Boy Scouts, or in the Army, or in high schools: Shut up, don't tell anybody what you do, your life will be a lot easier."
Here's a long quote, but I fell off my chair laughing, as O'Reilly was actually trying to say something positive: "Now, the greatest misconception, in my opinion, that black people have about whites is that some whites don't like them because of the color of their skin. I don't know anybody who thinks that way, because somebody's black or somebody's red or somebody's brown, I immediately don't like them.....I'll tell you what they don't like. I'll tell you what whites-and I'm taking this from my grandmother....My grandmother didn't like black people because she was afraid of them.....All my grandmother saw were young black males on television getting arrested, right, she-when she rode the bus.....in New York, she saw some black people being rowdy or whatever....She was afraid. And because she was afraid, she didn't like them. So it's not the color of the skin that my grandmother didn't like, it was "I'm afraid"....It had nothing to do with skin color." Hot darn....that is simply otherworldy funny.
There is a chapter on how this guy bungles his facts. Not quite as funny, but still amusing: "Thirty-seven percent of Americans pay no federal income tax at all because of the Earned Income Tax Credit." 37% of 300m would be 111m. 111m take the EIC? Um....no. He's a little off: the 37% is the % of Americans who pay no tax, which includes a large number of non-filers, like Tony Soprano, and only 1/2 of filers who owe 0 tax get the EIC. The exact number is a minute % of total Americans.
"More than one hundred thousand abductions of children by strangers every year in the U.S. So that's not that rare....I mean, if you, if you-there's 365 days in a year, more than a hundred thousand, OK? So we're talking thirty a day? I mean, that's a big number." 100,000? Are you freakin' kidding me? According to the Justice Dept., the number is actually around 100. In an attempt to correct himself, O'Reilly later claimed that "approximately 725,000 are reported missing each year, and many of those cases are not solved." 725,000? What is he on? That's more casualties than the U.S. suffered in all the wars since WWII.
I'll end my little review with this one: "I've done this program for four and a half years, and I have never attacked anybody personally on this program ever." (3/13/01). Whew, made it to the end without ever mentioning the word "falafel"....damn, no I didn't!
UnFAIR Reporting.......2006-01-30
Peter Hart of FAIR (Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting) has lived up to the charter of his organization, by limiting himself to actual transcripts from O'Reilly's program(s), with little or no editorial comment added. The good news is that there is a plethora of material to use as grist for Hart's mill. The bad news is that there is so much of it that O'Reilly's tendency to repeat himself makes the book a little longer than it needs to be. If you aren't sure whether O'Reilly is really "unbiased," this book should be required reading.
An amusing take on otherwise frightening facts.......2006-01-11
Factual, accurate, and yet humorous, this book should be mandatory reading for every viewer of Fox News.
Book Description
This off-the-wall travel guide presents an Ohio odder than imagined. It wastes no time describing Cedar Point or suggesting scenic bike rides through the Hocking Hills; instead, this entertaining travel companion directs out-of-state adventurers and Buckeye state residents to the home of the world's largest cockroach, an Amish SUV, Egg Shell Land, a two-headed calf, and the Accounting Hall of Fame. Ohio is depicted as the birthplace of bar codes, Airstream trailers, televangelism, Paul Lynde, Alcoholics Anonymous, and the banana split. Odd stories abound, and tales of Ohio as the only state where Jerry Springer has been elected the mayor of a major city, where a brick outhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places, and where Buster the Dog voted for president accompany the site-seeing suggestions. Plenty of photos and maps ensure that this guide is as practical as it is wacky when seeking out wonders such as the Great Pumpkin Watertower, Goodyear’s World of Rubber, and Bogart and Bacall's wedding site, then relaxing with a brew at the World’s Longest Bar.

Koko and Friends: Friends??? Oh, Really!!!

Product Description
"Koko and Friends" are a series of books that depict the journey of Koko and his friends as they pursue their goals of becoming professional basketball players. As Koko and his cousins explore their world in a house, they learn some important lessons about life. The goal of this book, "Friends??? Oh, Really!!!," is to impart decision making skills into children based on the theme of "always doing what is right." This book focuses on the importance of choosing friends wisely. As adults, we realize that deciding to stand by your principles is not always easy. Peer acceptance and approval are so important to children. Sometimes children make decisions under peer pressure that are not in their best interest because they simply want to "fit in." The situations presented in this book are intended to help children realize that some children cannot be their friends and the price of "coolness" is usually not worth the cost one has to pay. For children who are too young to read or to pronounce some of the words, these books are intended as a read-along series. Many important parent-child discussions can be initiated through the scenarios presented. Teaching children to make sound decisions is not easy. It is the hope of the authors that this book will make that task less overwhelming.
Customer Reviews:
A must have...........2005-02-08
I thought that this book was great because it was interesting to find out how they got through the challenges of peer pressure. I know as a parent that children are faced with peer pressure everyday. After reading this book, it instills in a child mind that their decision is very important and to always do what is s right verses what to do to fit in with the "cool" crowd. I've read this book over and over it seems as every time I read it to my child, it boosts his self esteem about situations that he faces everyday at school. I highly recommend purchasing this book for your child. It's very educational.
An Excellent Book For Growing Children.......2004-08-21
WOW! I didn't know that this book would have as big an impact on my daughter as it has. I would definitely recommend this book to any child. When I purchased it for my five year old daughter, she didn't ever want me to stop reading it to her. Her favorite character - of course - is Sugar, because that's what her nickname is. She even took the book to school for show and tell, and all of her friends loved it. My daughter enjoys it because of the illustrations and the child-friendly story-line; however, I as a mother enjoy it because it sends a really great message to children of all ages and races. My daughter keeps asking me if anymore books from KOKO series is coming out, and I tell her of course. So, I'm asking the authors to get busy and write more! I'll be your first customer. Again, I recommend this book to anyone who has children. It's a great investment, and you'll definitely be glad that you bought it! Your children will thank you for it!

Ultimate Tori Reference.......2004-12-04
This was a great reference up until BFP. This book does not have items after 1997. I contacted the author about possibly doing a volume II and he was not planning on it. However this book is great for early Tori items.
essential book for the tori collector.......2004-03-18
to say that this is an essential volume of work for the serious tori collector is almost a contradiction in terms. the serious collector could basically be any tori fan around the world who is slavishly devoted to tori's music & simply must own the rarities no matter how expensive or obscure they may be. naturally, this book would probably not appeal to the casual tori fan who buys an album occasionally at the local wal-mart. if you mainly interested in some basic information on tori & her formative years, you should try the kalen rogers book instead which is an awesome introduction to ms. amos & contains many lovely photographs of the goddess herself. on the other hand, this is a useful reference book if you are seriously into collecting promos, extremely rare vinyl, or the infamous y kant tori read cd. speaking from personal experience, i've found very few of the items listed in this book but i keep it on hand just in case i should run across them at record shows, used cd bins, or perhaps yard sales of tori fans. sad to say, most of these items are either long out of circulation or very few copies were distributed. one interesting fact is that most of the material you will find on ebay are not the original pressings but rather cheap bootlegs(while these sometimes can be very necessary) which are overly priced. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SHARE ANOTHER PIECE OF VALUABLE INFORMATION FOR EXTRMEME TORI FANS LIKE MYSELF HERE. if you love live tori material or rare songs which are not in print, you can often go the www.hereinmyhead.com website & pull up mp3s of all your favorite rarities. this is where i have found most of my songs for my extensive tori collection. rumour also has it you can go to www.toritraders.com where you can download full length concerts or cover art for cd cases. from what i've read or heard, this can be done with dial-up service but the process of downloading could take up to five days whereas a high speed connection would only take about five hours. as of yet, i have not tried this so i cannot substantiate the rumour but i found that tidbit to be very interesting & i figured tori fans might find this useful in addition to purcahsing this methodically researched volume of work. needless to say, this collection book sitting on his coffee table or by the computer right near the bible.
Great Book, A Little Disappointed Though.......2003-06-14
I purchased this book recently. It is surprisingly heavy and is packed wih pictures and info. Really a must-have for collectors.
I have a few critisisms: first, there are no prices or values for the items, which I thought there would be. I realize that prices and availability fluctuate after several years making it difficult to place a value on certain items, but even including the original store prices would have been better than nothing. Second, I was very disappointed to find that the book does not include any of the merchandise sold on the tours (with the exception of the UTP and BFP tour books), such as tour necklaces, t-shirts, and other items. I thought this was a pretty big omission considering the popularity and collectibility of such items.
Despite those things, it is a great book to have, I would recommend picking one up if you plan to start collecting.
Great.......2002-09-27
This is an excellent book to have for collectors. You shouldn't purchase unless you are a serious collector.

Customer Reviews:
Pretty Good.......2007-01-10
An awesome upgrade to GURPS 3rd Edition. Full colored and illustrated book, some new rules added and some old rules banished, creating a better balanced and understandable system.
Five stars again to SJG.
The best Gurps compilation.......2007-01-10
The "Gurps 4th Edition" just fixed all "Gurps 3rd Edition" weakness. The two books are so great. The color and hardcover look and feel are some big diference between the books and the the old versions.
The bad comercial thing: are two books, and you need to have both if you want to be a Game Master.
The "Characters Guide" have lots of resources to make a rich character and the "Campaigns Guide" have a good Game Master stuff.
If you want to have some good RPG System, well, you need to buy "Gurps 4th Edition", but you need some time and practice, cause the game system is so rich, then the rules number is high.
A nice improvement over 3rd edition........2006-11-12
The idea behind GURPS is that it provides a set of core rules that can be adapted to any setting (thus the "universal" part of General Universal Role-Playing). It does a good job of this, although it is better suited to a somewhat more realistic feeling than heroic wackiness. A human isn't going to take too many sword hits and shrug them off.
The strong point of GURPS is character generation. Players are allotted a number of points to build their characters, and may buy characteristics, skills and "Advantages" (things like the ability to use magic, being wealthy, or any of hundreds of other things), and may get additional points by taking "Disadvantages."
This new 4th edition is in by far most ways an improvement over 3rd edition. They closed a lot of loopholes and fixed a number of less-than-optimal things. I like the changes to combat especially.
There are a couple of things I would have done differently.
1) They took the skills out of psionics (and every other supernatural system, for that matter), making it purely advantage based, but they left magic as skill based. They really should have made each magic spell into an advantage too, because now it's not as well balanced with the rest of the system as it could be. Couple this with the fact that you can now take IQ at 10 points a level if you don't take the associated Will and Perception, and you can easily have a Wizard character with an IQ of 17 or so in a 100 point campaign, who can buy spells at a very high skill level with 1 point.
2) They should have dumped the "earn character points through study" system. Yes, it's easy to just ignore it, but if you get stuck with a GM who goes by the book you may very well find yourself wasting a lot of time with tedious accounting issues.
4th edition institutes a good set of rules that allows the GM to create powers and abilities by modifying Advantages with an extensive set of Enhancements and Limitations. This is really nice for the workaholic GM, but the GM who lacks huge amounts of free time is going to be hoping for supplements with some a lot of sample powers worked out for him or her.
Much better than D&D (d20).......2006-07-10
Well written, nice arts, easy to understand system, easy to learn and flexible. Much much more flexible than d20, and also much more realistic. Having played d&d for some times now, I was getting rather frustrated about the lousy you-hit-me-I-hit-you combat system. With Gurps, things are much more dynamic. Give it a chance, you won't regret it.
Great System.......2005-11-10
The fourth edition of GURPS doesn't disappoint. This time, the basic book has been split into two volumes. This one deals with the creation of characters and can be considered to be the player's guide. The genius of the GURPS system is that anything is possible. If you can dream of it, you can play it. It's a great system for those who would like to establish a game with a sense of independence and creativity. If you haven't tried it, I recommend that you give it a try.
