Book Description
This is it–the climax of the greatest science fiction movie epic of all time, and Star Wars fans can venture behind the scenes for all the fascinating details. From the first story discussions to the final stages of post-production
, The Making of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is an exclusive, unprecedented look at the crafting of the most anticipated and perhaps the most important Star Wars film ever.
Packed with hundreds of never-before-seen photos and interviews with the visual-effects teams, cast, and crew–including writer/director George Lucas and producer Rick McCallum–this outstanding volume offers a rare insider’s look at the complete creative process. Granted unprecedented access to all those involved at every stage of the film–from Skywalker Ranch to the sets at Fox Studios, Australia–author and Lucasfilm senior editor J. W. Rinzler captures in riveting detail the intense drama and cliffhangers that occurred as production worked day and night for three years to bring their monumental undertaking to conclusion. Readers will uncover
• details on how the art and animatics departments teamed up with ILM to create the spectacular opening sequence, perhaps the greatest Star Wars space battle ever produced
• revelations on the genesis of archvillain General Grievous within the Episode III art department
• accounts of how George Lucas and Rick McCallum
reached critical decisions in often pressure-laden situations
• exclusive interviews with Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor on how they prepared for their thrilling lightsaber duel as Anakin and Obi-Wan
• an eyewitness account of the reappearance of Darth Vader on the set in Sydney, Australia
Finally, there’s the film editing–Lucas’s favorite part of the moviemaking process.
This portrait of the legendary director captures the down-to-the-wire tension encountered in getting to the final cut. Fueled by his imagination and his beginnings as a documentary filmmaker, Lucas makes films the way some painters create canvases, building layer upon layer in each frame of the film. And this book takes the reader along for the ride.

Star Wars.......2007-08-02
It is very interesting to look over. You will learn more about how everything is set and look at the clothing concept. You learn more about the setting and sketch of things.
Buy or buy not. There is no maybe.......2006-07-11
I was hoping this book would provide information on the various 'film codes' used in the film (such as colour and shot symbolism, style of music, frame composition, costume etc) and how they enhanced the actual story. There is none of that in this book; however, it does provide 'a fly on the wall' insight into the production of the film. It relays conversations between Lucas and his producer, as well as recreates dialogue between Lucas and his actors as they move through the filming process. Glorious pictures, but you can get the same images from the net if that's what you're after. The book didn't provide me with what I wanted, but the Star Wars nerd in me liked it nevertheless.
A Heck of a Lot Better Than You Would Expect.......2005-12-23
This book is jam-packed with information on the making of the movie, from Preproduction to Principal Photography to Digital Shot Production. Really, this book has it all!
In "Part 1" it shows original drawings and rough drafts of the script. In "Part 2" it shows what they filmed every day, and even has quotes straight from Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, and Ewan McGregor. You can read about the problems they would go through on a day-to-day basis.
In "Part 3" it mostly talks about adding in those special effects that make the movie what it is today. Plus, there are a few pages about those Wookiees!
If that isn't enough, almost every page has 3-6 crystal clear, candid photos. And I just want to mention that there are more than 220 pages. Small font is used in order to fit in more information.
This book tells a whole lot more than the special features on the DVD do. I'm serious, this is a must-have for any Star Wars fan. Even if you're not obsessed like some people, I think everyone will enjoy this book.
SMOKE AND MIRRORS.......2005-11-03
Well, it's been about 30 years in the making but the Star Wars saga finally came to an end with the release of Revenge of the Sith. This book is about all the hard work, both in front of and behind the camera, that made the final film possible. As with the DVDS I felt that too much time was spent on the "technical" aspects of the film and not enough was spent on the actors, the scriptwriting process, and the themes of the work as a whole. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Star Wars films and this book's problem is that there is an obsession with "design" instead of the emotional content or the plot. Instead of obsessing about the look of each and every laser gun, Lucas should have filled us in about plot holes and told us why Qui-Gon couldn't have communicated with Yoda and said "Palpatine is the Sith Lord"! and saved the whole universe with those words. There are some entertaining and insightful looks into the psychology of the characters, especially in the 1st drafts of the script in which Lucas envisioned Palpatine as the person that conceived Anakin through his control of the Force, which would make him Anakin's father in a way, and Luke and Leia's grandpa! The other negative thing about this book is that you become more conscious of the trickery used in Episode 3. When you read about all the digital head-swapping, especially of Palpatine and Christopher Lee, when you view the film, you start to notice the slightly different looking heads during the duels. It also made me disillusioned to find out that at the beginning of the film when Anakin and Obi-Wan face Dooku, Christopher Lee was not even on the same set with them. So I don't know, this book really revealed all fakery that I believe is so responsible for people's unease with the prequels. Movies like Sin City which were completely digital made no pretensions to look real, but Lucas tries so hard to make Episodes I-III look authentic that somehow everything seems bogus. If you read this book, you will probably never view the film the same, and I mean that in a negative way.
An Inside Look to the Making of a Movie.......2005-09-06
I thought that this was a very well done book! I liked how it showed what they were doing each day while filming, and how they prepare for making the movie. I learned alot about making movies, and now know alot of what the technical terms mean. It also had a nice format, with behind the scenes pictures on most of the pages. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan, and I thought this was a great book. A must read for all fans, or "wanna be" movie makers.

Vanquish Terrible Evil
The noblest heroes must contend with the foulest monsters. Whether torn from the darkest planes of existence or spawned as blights upon the natural world, the creatures bound within these covers will challenge stalwart adventurers of every experience level.
This accessory for the
D&D game captures over 150 monsters, including some of the most diabolical beings imaginable. While focused on extraplanar and otherworldly creatures, you'll also stumble across new creatures of every type, with Challenge Ratings that range from 1/8 to 25. Along with three new fiendish prestige classes, six new templates, and rules for swarms, grafts, and symbionts, the Fiend Folio offers a multitude of challenges for every hero.
To use this supplement, a Dungeon Master also needs the Player's Handbook, and the
Dungeon Master's Guide. A player needs only the Player's Handbook.
Customer Reviews:
When extraplanar creatures attack..........2006-08-14
This book is not entirely truthful. I had though it was going to be entirely about fiends. It is actually more like a book of outsiders. It is very well done with some memorable monsters. I especially liked the ethergaunt. Almost worth buying just for the pictures, but definitely a must have for adventurers travelling anywhere outside the Material Plane.
Excellent overall, but some minor compatibility issues.......2006-03-10
Fiend Folio is an excellent supplement, with a wealth of new monsters, templates, and other goodies (such as grafts and symbiotes) that any DM can use to make a richer campaign. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is becasue it is 3.0 edition, so there are some minor incompatibility issues with 3.5 (the main thing I noticed was a few spell-like abilities not listed in the 3.5 Player's Handbook). So, if you are a stickler for such things, perhaps it is not for you. However, if you can put up with the minor inconsistencies, this really is a great source book overall!
A Fun Product.......2006-02-25
It's nice to be able to through the occassional "unusual" bad guy at one's players. Fiend Folio has a slew of them to choose from. Good stuff, for when you want to throw bad stuff at your players.
Great Book!.......2004-11-02
This book is excelent! Filled with fiends, undead, oozes, and some fey, this book has so many ideas for that monster for the climactic battle, or if you just want to keep your players on their toes. There's also new rules for grafts, if you want a demonic leg or something, and fiendish prestiege classes! The only [minor] downsides are that most creatures have an incredibly high challenge rating, and for some reason there's a celestial in here... oh well. Anyway, I seriously recommend this book for any DM with even the slightest intrest in using Fiends in their campaign.
Lots of Fiends in a Folio-like Compendium.......2004-07-18
The thing I like about the Fiend Folio is that there's lots of fiends in it. The fiends are arranged into a... how shall I put it.... folio-type of arrangement. So, to sum it all up, there are lots of fiends in the Fiend Folio and that makes it cool.
If you, the player-character ever have trouble defeating one of the numerous fiends enumerated within the hallowed pages of the Fiend Folio, my suggestion would be to cast a Magic Missle at it because there -is no saving throw- for Magic Missle.
Customer Reviews:
Other Books.......2007-09-03
A bunch of extra monsters that you could pull out to surprise people. Some of these were from previous official products, and others were made up and sent in by fans and others, and a lot of them were from Britain, from memory.
Part of the attraction is the Jeff Dee art in places, along with the silly reverse name monsters.
An inferior UK cousin.......2002-03-13
Fiend Folio is a second tome of monsters for the AD&D first edition game. It came after the original Monster Manual, but before Monster Manual II.
While the monsters in the Monster Manuals are primarily authored by Gary Gygax, the monsters in the Fiend Folio are created by players of the game itself in the United Kingdom. In truth, the book is a compilation of other people's creations, and some monsters (namely from the D series) from AD&D modules.
That said, Fiend Folio feature some monsters that survives to this day in the 3rd edition: the slaad, kenku, githyanki, githzerai, aarakocra, achaierai, bullywug, the ever popular death knight, mephits, gibberlings, grimlocks, penaggalan, to name a few.
Not to mention there aren't stinkers...there are a whole bunch of monsters of questionable worth, like the flumph, an unsually aligned (lawful good) thing that was once voted the most useless monster in AD&D, the gambado, the garbug (wasp bodies lobsters(!), forst men, tirapheg, umpleby, adherers, just to name a few.
There are also a few standouts like the Elemental Princes of Evil, and the nilbog (goblin spelt backward).
One big downer however, is the art. Although there are a few by old time favs like Jeff Dee and Erol Otus, but too many are by other artists whose style are too violently graphic and lack the fantasy feel of the first monster manual.
Overall, Fiend Folio is good, but not as good as Monster Manual.
A must for any DM whose campaign involves planejumping.......2000-06-22
This book fleshes out the denizens of the outer planes and the astral.

Nostalgic about things which require thought.......2000-05-14
This is one of the best books to acquire for a fan of D&D, but for somewhat strange reasons:
- this book is not recommended for its pictures, which look, feel, and are poor. Quite gory, too (that is, as gory as one can get with very small pencil drawings);
- this book isn't recommended for the text; the text here is even worse than in the old monstrous manuals - if you study the entries you will be able to clearly determine which paragraphs went into which blank on the original entry forms (did I tell you that all of the creatures in this book were submitted by fans of the game?). Most aren't quite complete, and some ramble on and on and on and have totally unnecessary percentile tables and other things that obviously waste space.
This book is, however, gratuitously recommended for the complete "alienness". No game company makes this sort of thing nowadays. None of the creatures are campaign-related, they are totally up for grabs, they are easy to apply to whatever paper-and-pencil RPG you play, and the sheer good-natured amateurity that harkens from the old days of role-playing this book radiates in all directions is simply overwhelming.
A few warnings: this book is moderately rare and runs for around $30 in a tolerable condition - kinda expensive for some 100 pages. Don't buy this book if you're new to the hobby. You will not understand what's so good about this thing and you will feel cheated out of you money. Thee are plenty of better RPGs and accessories out there than this. And, lastly, buy this book only if you feel creative - be willing to resort to such barbaric means as using your creativity and improvise - that's the way things were done a long time ago.
Oldies but Goodies.......2000-04-01
This is perhaps one of the greatest encyclopedia of monsters there is. It is short but incredible to spice up any campaign, low or high level. The artwork is not the greatest but the content makes up for it all the way. I would definately recomend it to any serious gamer.

A cult book from the British staff of TSR.......2000-06-26
The AD&D Fiend Folio, is the most in demand book from the original 1st edition game. The reason for that is clear when you compare it with the two other Monster Manual book (I &II). The Fiend Folio's monsters are a lot more original than those of the 1st Monster Manual and the book has the cohesion that was missing in the interesting, but uneven Monster Manual II. There is a dark twist to the monsters included in this book that you wont find in most other monster compendium. Even the more recent Ravenloft monster compendium have not matched that dark spirit of creativity. This book shouldn't be the first monster manual a DM buys, but experienced players will certainly find it is the most rewarding of them all...
Unique collection of 1st edition monsters, several by Gygax.......2000-05-02
Here's the classic collection of monsters from the UK - also including the first hardcover appearance of many Gygax creations, such as Lolth, the Drow, Daemons, and more! Contains hundreds of illustrations, and many monsters that are hard to find these days - the Styx Devil, Elemental Princes of Evil, and many, many others. This tome was never matched for UK-style adventure hooks... highly recommended!
check out that cover!.......1999-05-15
This collection of monsters will always be a great addition to your collection of old school AD&D material. It comes from the UK and it's definetely not lacking in the weird or wonderous department! A lot of nice illustrations done in pen and ink make this one great pick up! Buy it dude! Did I mention the front cover yet?
One Great Collection Of Man&Monsters.......1999-01-18
When I first recived the book, the cover of it cought my eye, The monster on the front was mysterious to what i had normaly seen on the 1st and 2nd monster Manuals, and I was right-down interested about it, i flipped through the pages and saw many different, very descripive monsters, what there origin was, etc... and all most all of them had wonderful artwork to go with the monster. But of course this book is for experianced DM and Players alike, if you were to be starting out as a DM, then the older monster manual (1st) or the new book that has all 3 books combined, yet leaves out quite a bit of monsters, would also be very helpful to you. Remember though, as a DM there is never enough time to finish something, always have a backup module or something. -Berlo Silkshadows-
Diversity, Depth, & Drama.......1998-05-06
The Fiend Folio: Tomb of creatures malevolent & benign is a great compendium of creatures with well written and drawn descriptions of who the monsters are and why they do the things they do. This is a combination of the author's creations and the cream of hundreds of player's ideas that were submitted to be in the book. I especially like the fact that many of the creatures come from the minds of the people who play this game! It creates a wide diversity of creatures that are good, evil, and just plain strange.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent source of monsters for 1st Edition AD&D.......2000-04-03
The Fiend Folio, if you can still find it, is an excellent source of monsters "malevolent and benign," but mostly malevolent. It introduces many creatures which are staples to 2nd edition AD&D, such as the githzerai and githyanki (from Planescape) and the Death Knight (from Krynn/Dragonlance). It has an excellent mix of extraplanar and standard monsters, so it will be suitable for any level campaign. However, I would recommend it especially highly if you were running a campaign that dealt with the Elemental planes, because this has very detailed information on Mephits and the Elemental Princes, as well as other incidental elemental creatures. All in all, it makes an excellent creature sourcebook for those of you still dedicated to 1st edition AD&D.

Doctor Who: A Celebration.......2003-10-26
This is a lovely book that details everything one would ever want to know about the first two decades of Doctor Who. It includes commentary from various producers of the show, fascinating biographies of each of the first five Doctors, and even an article by each of the five actors about their thoughts on Dr. Who. It is a well-written and extremely infomative book.
Plus it has photographs of Peter Davison.
Twenty years of the timelord on TV.......1999-12-27
This book is a time capsule of the Doctor Who franchise thru 20 years. Many unique pictures and anecdotes from the series.

The Ultimate Doctor Who Book........2000-04-16
I first read Doctor Who A Celebration way back in 1984. Back when Doctor Who was popular in the United States. Back when there was a Doctor Who convention to attend every couple of months. Attending conventions was loads of fun, and so was reading this book. A Celebration was written by Haining as a tribute to the success of this remarkable program. This book covers all of the important aspects of the show.
The first third of this book covers the first five doctors. There are articles on each Doctor, as well as articles written by each of the Doctors. They give their unique perspectives on the show and the role they played in its success. Next, the book covers a variety of Doctor Who facts. The TARDIS, K9, the Master, Gallifrey, the companions, and articles from the producers and creators of the show are all here. The final portion of the book is entitled The Whoniverse. It is a twenty year travel log of the Doctor's adventures. This is the best part of the book. It lists each episode. The episode is described and small production facts are given. This is not all of the topics that are covered by this remarkable book. There is still much, much more that is worth reading. If you are a Doctor Who fan this book is a must have. It is a great book covering the first twenty years of the show.
