An expertly presented guide through the 2005 year of American and foreign film productions.......2006-06-02
Screen World: 2005 Film Annual Volume 56 by movie expert and critic John Willis with the assistance of Barry Monush is an expertly presented guide through the 2005 year of American and foreign film productions. Providing readers with an in-depth explorations of the wonderfully diverse world of the cinema, Screen World provides a succinct description of every 2005 movie from La Vie Promise; The Polar Express; and Garden State, to Paper Clips; Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind; and Team America: World Police. A core addition to film school and film buff reference collections, Screen World is a "must" for all lovers of the big-screen and is justifiable designated as the ultimate reference for 2005's quite remarkable year of moviemaking.
Take a peek..........2006-04-20
Feeling a little out of it as far as modern movies go? Need some fresh ideas? This book is a treat to go through - hundreds and hundreds of pictures from domestic and foreign films (all the major films released in the US in 2004). The plot synopsis are very brief, but have to be with how much is crammed into this book. At the end are lists of top box office starts, top box office films, and bibliographical data on hundreds of actors and actresses. A section of obituaries chronicles the lives of film personalities who passed away in 2004. I'd suggest 'Hotel Rwanda,' 'The Chorus,' 'Ray,' and 'Phantom of the Opera.'
Product Description
Quite possibly the largest collection of fiddle music for viola ever published! Contains a wealth of material for fiddlers seeking a transition to the viola and/or violists in search of a collection of traditional fiddle music. Designed to meet the rising popularity of the viola's role in folk music, the tunes in this book are grouped into C, G, D, F, B-flat, and E-flat major fingering. The music in this book is printed on parallel staffs. The top is traditional viola notation in the alto clef while the bottom is the same music in transposing violin notation, allowing fiddlers who read the G or treble clef to play the viola by fingering it as if it were a fiddle.
Customer Reviews:
Great selection of music, but not much on technique..........2006-12-15
When I bought this, I was expecting a bit more information on the actual technique behind fiddling, specifically for violas. But this book seems more aimed at violinists who can already fiddle, and want to learn alto clef. Each song is written in both alto and treble clef. There is a lot of different songs in the book, but it would be nice to have more technique.

Customer Reviews:
Useless.......2007-08-03
I will not recommend this book to anyone as it doesn't have much content in it. For serious players, I recommend Dan Harrington's books.
Great for Advanced players!.......2007-07-03
Erick takes you into different ways to play No Limit Tournament Poker. It is a great book for the advanced player as it shows different ways to take down pots. A must for the intermediate player who wants to take their game to the next level!
Not exactly poker 101. But good info........2007-03-27
Some people complain this book is a lot of fluff and not much substance. But I disagree. Where this book really shines is as a component in your knowledge of tournament tactics. Combine this with "kill Phil", and the three volumes by Dan Harrington, and what you have are the gears you need to win. You always hear about the need to shift gears in order to win a tournament. Well these three books are definitely first second and third.
Harrington on holdem gives a rock solid foundation, Phil's book takes that up a notch and exploits the slightest advantage of each hand. His tactics will win hands that otherwise would most likely lose at the river or be folded preflop. "Kill Phil" is the book that explains the only defense against people like phil. So by reading all three you get a great understanding of just exactly what is going on at the table on any given hand.
Also, I think anyone who keeps making the money but never wins can benefit by having read this material. It reiterates over and over the strategy and necessity to win, not just survive. Distinguishing between the two is subtle yet monumental.
Not for beginners.......2007-02-24
I have read many many books. I enjoy tournament play much more than any other form. THis book strictly focused on how to win tournaments. I have been making the money alot but just can't seem to take that 1st. I learned a lot of new techniques. This book is not for beginners. If your new to poker and are looking for basic strategy and poker odds this book won't help. You need a fairly indepth understand of poker before reading this book. Very good book would recommend for the tourny player. On a side note, would like to comment on all poker books. Most pro players tell you how you should play and the correct plays in certain situations. Yes all these concepts work great when your playing other pros and good players. Most of these concepts don't work for the good poker player playing low limit games such as anything under $100 tournies. Most of these player are new, or poor players. They dont understand pot odds and correct plays. So, while this book was good. I don't forsee it helping my play much. Since unfortunatly I can't afford to play the pro, high limit tournies.
Nothing special.......2007-01-11
This was the fifth poker book I have read and I would rate it last of the five. It is short on details and could be summed up in a few chapters. Much of the book is nothing more than advertising for the World Poker Tour and about 20 pages are nothing more than a list of the first three seasons money winners on the WPT. The book does share some creative poker theory, but I would say start with Harrington's (Vol's 1 and 2) books or Doyle's Supersystem if you are looking for an informative, detail-based book to build your knowledge of the game.

Hold em book on cash games.......2007-01-06
This well done book fills a void as most books are for tournament poker.
Much of the beginning of book is autobiographical (but interesting).
The only disapointment is the included cd is on chip tricks where a better
use would have been more instruction.
Good but not Great.......2006-11-09
it was a very easy read. he missed explict examples. not that much detail. i do recommend this book, but i wouldn't base my style on it.
Do not read this book........2006-10-30
This is the only book I've read about poker that I haven't liked. The whole book just tells over and over again how good Antonio is at poker.

Customer Reviews:
"Solid".......2006-03-27
If you are a poker player, then this is a good book to read. It has everything you need to become successful. If the book doesn't do it for you, then there is a DVD that could really help your game.
Good Book.......2006-03-23
This is a good book, mainly for people above the raw beginner level, but still below the intermediate level. A lot of good observations about the differences between tournament poker and ring games. Probably a little "over the head" of raw beginners.
Good book for somebody interested in the very basics.......2006-02-16
If you don't know the rules and are interested in poker, this book is for you. Even if you are experienced, it is a fun read. Just don't expect to learn anything new.
The extra dvd is very well put together and great for someone just starting out.
If you really want to learn poker though, pick one of the many other books considered "must-reads"
If this is the only poker book you read, you will probably go broke........2005-07-19
This book is a fair primer on poker on it most basic level, but chances are if you're buying the book, it's because you've been watching WPT and are already familiar with the game to some extent.
If you're really a beginner, this book is a fast read and will get you started, but please don't end your education here. There is very little in this book on theory, and important topics, if addressed at all, are not covered in depth. There are a few good stories, and there's plenty of advertising reminding us to watch WPT on TV and, of course, to play poker online at the site that Mr. Sexton endorses (and in which I believe he has some ownership). He reminds us over and over how GREAT it is to win! NO DUH!
If you really want to learn about poker and take your game to the next level(s), get your hands on anything by Sklansky. Read them all. Cover to cover. Twice. Then again. It will take a long time to absorb it all, but it will be worth it. When you do, you'll then have to decide what style of play is best for you. For example, I found it discouraging that Mr. Sexton advocates the "fit or fold" strategy on the flop, only to read Sklansky tell us that "fit or fold" is "terrible advice."
Buy this book if you must (it's a light read that you can knock out in an afternoon), but know going into it that you're not even scratching the surface of what poker is all about.
Great tips and a great read.......2005-06-02
Mike Sexton's new book is great for two reasons. First of all, it is one of the few books that focuses on tournament poker and gives some great advice on how to play in tournaments as opposed to just cash games. Second of all, unlike so many poker books, it is actually a joy to read and includes some great stories and information not found in many of the other poker books out there. I would recommend this book if you actually play poker or just enjoy watching the WPT.
Book Description
Lyle Berman, a one-of-a-kind combination of high-stakes poker maverick and entrepreneurial tycoon, shares the amazing tale of his life, a non-stop romp through the exciting and often perilous worlds of high-stakes gambling and business. Berman, who is a driving force
behind the poker phenomenon that has swept America and the world, shares a never-before-seen glimpse into the birth and early struggles of the World Poker Tour. This is a story that only Berman can tell. With colorful anecdotes and hard-won wisdom, I'M ALL IN sheds new light on the life and times of a man, a game, and a national phenomenon.
Customer Reviews:
Well worth reading!.......2006-03-21
Lyle Berman was born into a family that had moderate success in a very niche market: leather products, especially coats. He learned the business from the ground up, helped his father build the business, sold it, bought it back, merged it, sold it again and used the proceeds to build wealth for his family.
Along the way he learned the art of the deal and the rush he got from that paralleled the rush he got from playing high-stakes poker. The two came together the first time when he became the outside agent who became the driving force that launched Indian Gaming. He accelerated gaming in Mississippi when he recognized that the need to be "offshore" on the Mississippi Gulf Coast did not necessarily mean on a boat, and he used barges to create bigger, glitzier, and more hypnotic casinos than would otherwise be possible.
The two "rushes" came together again when the timing was right to create the World Poker Tour. From concept to product to launch--The World Poker Tour came together in a series of meetings that at first made the probability of it going anywhere seem unlikely. But Lyle's connections and experience put the pieces together to launch a product in a niche market that was ready for something new. The details make for fascinating reading.
What also makes for fascinating reading is Berman's candor about what success costs. While he doesn't dwell on it, he does acknowledge that his drive for business success also laid the seeds of personal failure in his marriages and the impact it had on him and his children.
Armchair Interviews says: Well worth reading--especially for the person who is willing to read between the lines for life lessons that can be learned.

Book Description
Its an understatement to call poker a national obsession, and the World Series championship represents the games most enviable achievement. The 2005 tournament was covered by more than three hundred reporters from around the world and televised on ESPN. Its ratings blew away NBA coverage, and has NBC considering bringing the WSOP to network TV in 2006. In this exciting history, the authors use first-hand interviews, video footage, and written accounts to craft a comprehensive and highly entertaining account of the greatest tournament in the world, from its humble beginnings as a second-tier casinos publicity stunt in 1970 to the most coveted crown in a game that has swept the planet. They introduce colorfuland seemingly fearlesscharacters and chronicle some of the most gut-wrenching and heart-breaking momentsoften with millions at staketo be found in any event of its kind. Amazingly enough, while the World Series has been touched upon in numerous bestsellers, no one has ever written a comprehensive account of the history of the biggest poker tournament on earth.

Almost All In.......2007-06-13
When the Worlds Series of Poker started, the best poker player was chosen by a vote! Tidbits such as this make this an essential guide to the history of the burgeoning event. A lack of hand records makes some of the reconstruction of questionable reliability, however.
There is very little analysis of the hands, although the match-turning decisions are recounted well enough. There are insightful bios into some of the players, including Stu Ungar, who had won three tournaments during the time the increasing size made this an incredible feat. Recommended for those with an historical interest in the event and the growth of the popularity of poker.
Finally an Inside Look at the Professional Sports Bettors.......2007-01-10
I have always been interested in seeing a behind the scenes look at a professional "wiseguy" sports betting group. Michael Konik, a top gambling writer, excuse me, a top writer...period, has done a tremendous job of showing exactly how a big-time, big-money betting team operates. Konik shows how they bet into the Vegas casino sportsbooks and later with the large offshore bookmakers. How did he write this excellent book? He was recruited and became a member of a wiseguy group and later formed his own group. I pretty much knew how these outfits operated but did not know who did their actual handicapping, and how. Now I do know. Great job, Mike.
Fun, Informative Read.......2006-08-30
Anyone who has an interest in not just the World Series but poker in general will enjoy this book. All In provides a thorough and detailed history of the World Series of Poker and the fascinating characters involved.
A fun, historical ride of the World Series of Poker........2006-04-14
Nope. There are no discussions of how to play poker here. But whether or not you play poker you will enjoy this book. As the title says, it's (almost) the entirely true story of how the WSOP got started, the bumps along the way, and of course, the characters involved. It takes you from the humble beginnings to the behemuth that it is today.
And such stories...like the 1972 WSOP had 13 entrants, but only 8 of them played because they would rather play in the lucrative sides games than the WSOP. 1972 is also the year that Benny Binion made it a $10,000 buy-in...but paid half of it for the players who entered.
You'll watch the rise of the Binion family only to see it implode along the lines of a "Dallas" script. You'll read where a tournament director was fired because he refused to move old grumpy Johnny Moss who didn't want to sit by the railbirds during the tournament. Stories of great poker players like Jack Strauss, Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim and others fill this book. Read how Jessie Alto, who made the final table 6 times, went on a full tilt after he was bluffed out of a pot.
It's a fast read and I definitely recommned it to anyone who has a passing interest in poker.
All In: What's there is very good, What's missing is too bad........2006-03-12
This is a nice, though incomplete history of the World Series of Poker. What's ther is well written and engaging. It is an interesting read but is far from comprehensive.
I didn't really expect much coverage of the secondary tournaments, but I did expect a more complete coverage of the main event. With a lttle more this would be well deserving of 5 Stars. As it sits, it is more like 3.5-4.

Book Description
Francis and his assistant/editor/roommate Leigh went for a little cruise to Mexico with the World Poker Tour Boot Camp to improve their poker tournament skills under the tutelage of poker pros Clonie Gowan, Jules Leyser and Rick Fuller. They learned a lot and also took an interesting side trip to the Mayan ruins at Tulum. However the trip there and back was fraught with hazards as well as colorful incidents. This all happened one week in October, 2006. Francis took photographs, some of which are used to illustrate the article
