Good behind-the-scenes look.......2007-08-13
As a writer who has yet to sell a script, I've been told snippets of the information in this book by my agent and manager, but I never had the whole picture of what happens when my script leaves my hands. It was both sobering and comforting to get what sounds like a very accurate description. I also see now what I did--both right and wrong--the time a script of mine, a romantic comedy, went out and didn't sell but got me meetings. There is a useful diagram of the Hollywood food chain, descriptions of the different players and what makes each tick, and on a bonus creative note, a seemingly simplistic but ultimately quite useful template for finding and fleshing out new story ideas. I have a lot of books about scrrenwriting, but none explains the business as well as this one. It was also an entertaining read. Thanks Rona!

A guide to what happens to one's screenplay or novel when it is submitted to a studio or production company.......2005-12-06
Titled after the most common rejection line listed by studio executives, "I Liked It, Didn't Love It" is a no-nonsense guide to what happens to one's screenplay or novel when it is submitted to a studio or production company, and how to maximize one's odds of getting picked up. Written by a pair of industry insiders who have developed and sold screenplays for fifteen years, as well as teaching feature film development classes at UCLA for the past seven years, "I Liked It, Didn't Love It" covers important details to polish in one's writing, the art of pitching, crossing into television and cable movies, and much more. The refreshingly blunt honesty of "I Liked It, Didn't Love It" makes it as entertaining for readers of all backgrounds as it is vital for anyone looking to make a name or career for themselves in the screenplay industry. Highly recommended.

A Cautionary Tale.......2005-09-27
Yes, screenwriters have a word that comes right after "development": hell. Why does my script bear no resemblance to what I wrote? How did it go down the rabbit hole never to be seen again?
I've read many books on film, but none has gone deeper into the belly of the beast than this.
The fact is, script development is an integral part of a billion-dollar business. It is the difference between a film that rakes in a fortune all over the world and another that goes straight to DVD.
No actor, no director can survive a bad script. The film audience can smell it before it's out of the can.
"I Liked It, Didn't Love It": a six-word death warrant and a warning to writers and producers. Do a lot of development on your own before your work goes into development.
Rona Edwards and Monica Skerbelis are pros, insiders, and they use language as well as any script writer. This is not just a cautionary tale for writers. It is a deep look into an industry that fascinates us all with its power and magic.
AbsoluteWrite.com book reviewer Marie Jones states:.......2005-08-11
"I Liked It, Didn't Love It: Screenplay Development From the Inside Out"
Rona Edwards and Monika Skerbelis
Lone Eagle Publishing Company, 2005
ISBN 1580650627
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Whether your goal is to become a development executive, producer, director or screenwriter, knowing the inside scoop on how a script becomes a movie can make your career journey a much smoother one. "Development Hell" actually doesn't seem so hellish when you understand the reasons why a particular script succeeds, or fails, and how many varied factors contribute to the final product that is seen on the big screen.
That is why "I Liked It, Didn't Love It" is such a priceless book for any aspiring moviemaker or executive. Authors Rona Edwards and Monika Skerbelis have years and years of experience between them in the trenches of script development, and they share everything they know, and then some, in this must-have book that will no doubt help to open doors for those with enough drive and talent.
From the vast and various ways ideas are found and developed to the actual route a script takes from writer to agent to production company to studio, every step of development is explained, with plenty of examples of real films and inside stories that shed even more light on the somewhat mysterious process of the business of getting a movie made. The book is written for those interested in becoming development executives or story analysts, and offers tons of how-to on learning what to look for in a script, how coverage is done, where to find entry level opportunities, and what will be expected of you once you get your foot in the door. Having said that, as a writer, I found this book to be chock full of information that anyone even thinking about writing a script must know. Think about it. What better way for screenwriters to understand what Hollywood is buying then to get inside the heads of those who pick and choose the scripts that get developed in the first place?
The authors, both of whom have developed and sold screenplays for the past 15 years, really break down the entire process so much so that any intimidating factors melt in the light of knowledge, empowering writers and development executives-in-the-making with the kind of background info that can take years off their quest for success. By showing how it is done in the "real" world of production companies and studios, the outsider gets one giant step closer to being on the inside, where the action is. Now that's not to say developing a script from page to screen will be a piece of cake, but with books like this, it won't be quite as hellish when you understand why "they do the things they do."

Customer Reviews:
all in all, very much worth reading.......2004-03-19
I reviewed this book earlier and jumped on the authors and/or editors for a pretty significant photo error...... trying to pass off a photo of the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH, as The Pyramid, in Memphis..... pretty lame, I still say. But, having read the entire book, and having lived in Memphis all of my 45 years, I would like to say that, the above-mentioned goof notwithstanding, I really enjoyed the book, found it to be pretty accurate, and learned some things I didn't know. It's definitely worth reading.
Get the facts right - again.......2004-02-18
This is the 2nd book I've reviewed on Amazon, and I've got the same gripe about it that I did about the 1st book I reviewed, Peter Guralnick's "Sweet Soul Music".... if you're going to author a non-fiction book, especially one that is supposed to be about places to see and things to do, or about historical facts, then at least get your facts right. I've lived in Memphis all 45 years of my life, but it doesn't take that to see a glaring error in this book. There are several pages of photos in the book, inserted between pages 96 and 97.... the pages containing the photos are not numbered. The authors included a photo of what is supposed to be The Pyramid in Memphis.... concert hall, boxing ring, home of the NBA Grizzlies and the U of Memphis Tigers..... what the authors included is a photo of the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Hall of Fame & Museum, which is in CLEVELAND, OHIO, of all places!!!! Granted, that's a pyramid-shaped building, but who are they trying to fool? There's even a sign in front of the building in their photo that says "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Museum"...... and anyone with any sense of popular music knows that museum is in Cleveland, not Memphis. The authors do themselves no favors if they're trying to pass this photo off as the Pyramid in Memphis. If it was an honest mistake, then they need to fire their editor, who's supposed to catch stuff like this, right?
I haven't finished the book yet, but so far have found it fun to read and reasonably accurate except for the photo mentioned above. It does make me wonder though, if there's one error that little-old-me found, how many other errors and mistakes are there in this book???
IF you Wanna Know Memphis.......2003-08-31
If you have ever wanted to read a book that tells you all the cool spots in and around the Memphis area pick this one up. These are the places that are not on that cute tourist pack you get at the welcome center. These places are real and the authors writing about them understand their importance. I read the book in one sitting and I have only done that with about 3 books in my life. This puppy is jammed packed with wonderful recollections and people who are very active in southern and blues culture. As this book shows those who thought blues was dead are sadly mistaken. Great read!
Memphis music guide.......2003-08-15
A very enjoyable book, takes the reader on a musical joyride around Memphis, the Delta and mid-South in general. Full of brief interview tidbits with musical luminaries, many of whom live in relative obscurity in the area.
The book has a few minor errors I noticed, including labeling part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH incorrectly as the Pyramid Arena in downtown Memphis in the photo section. Other than very minor annoyances like that, I highly recommend this book to any fans of rock, r & b, blues or roots music in general. An engaging read about the music and performers and the city that literally changed the world.

Adequate, but disappointing.......2007-02-19
I am one of those completist gamers who likes to get everything available the first time through the game; therefore, a strategy guide is usually an absolute must for me. Unfortunately, there is a wide variation in quality, and this one leans pretty heavily towards the lower end of the spectrum. Don't get me wrong, it's still useful, but on the whole it feels sloppy and thrown-together, rather than comprehensive and helpful.
One of the things that really mars the presentation is how badly organized it is. The walkthroughs are relatively helpful, but oftentimes a crucial bit of information that was mentioned previously is left out, leaving you to flip back through trying to find it. Another problem is that the guide was apparently written for a beta version of the game - it talks about gameplay and story elements that aren't available in the game itself and leaves out others that are. Taken as a whole, it just feels like it was done in a hurry by someone who wasn't paying attention.
On the whole, the guide does work, but I wouldn't recommend purchasing it - you can find much better-organized and more thorough collections of the same information for free online. It's far from unusable, though, so it'll work if you need to have something nearby for reference and don't own a laptop computer.
Prima's Strategy Guides.......2007-01-04
Despite the beliefs of others, I believe this guide is actually helpful. Of course, the guide is not going to pass the game for you, you have to do that yourself. More or less, this gives you an outline of what you need to do, you just have to be smart enough to comprehend what it is that they are telling you. All one should need when playing these games is to know the answers to the most difficult puzzles. If you cannot accomplish something on your own, then Knights of the Old Republic isn't for you, so look elsewhere.
Of course, with everything, there is also some faults, but then everything can't be perfect. The maps are helpful to guide you to where you need to go, especially on Dantooine. From what I've seen, there are times when the guides can be wrong. They also sometimes use pre-production graphics which you look forward to and then are let down. That is practically it.
One should look at these guides basically as outlines. For the most part, outlines help you learn and remember things, but they are not going to teach you everything on the subject. So learn to deal with what you've got.
Star Wars KOTOR Stratergy Guide.......2006-07-25
Great product, really helpful and also very cheap for mint condition A++
Better Than The Others Say.......2006-05-19
Every time I looked in this guide it made me want to play it, but unfortunately I'm not very far. That's because my skills in this game aren't good. I did manage to get from the Vulker base to creating my own light saber. I do think you should get this cheat book. It helped me get through an area when I couldn't do it on my own (in the sewers on Teris). But above all, it's a good cheat book.

Wonderful, but not spectacular........2001-05-25
I thought this book was a very good over-view of different classic TV theme songs...but there were a few problems with it. As with Javna's other books, it seemed to be thrown together, and not carefully checked: for instance, some of the trivia was incorrect. I think it is a handy book to have around just in case you feel like plunking the "Mr. Ed" theme song out on the piano...but definitely not a theme-song bible.
Essential for TV show theme song lovers........1999-04-06
This book contains information on some of the greatest theme songs of all time. Its list ranges from the Beverly Hillbillies to Hawaii Five-O to the original lyrics for I Love Lucy. Each theme song contains detailed information on the TV show, interesting facts, and fun trivia questions. This book gave me something to do for days. This book is great for TV fans of all ages and a must for theme song lovers.

Great book!.......2003-06-26
The other day I had to sing a variation of the Muppet Show theme as I hosted a Talent Show, and I thought I would never find music for my accompanist. Then a simple search found this great book that has almost all of my favorite TV themes. (I watch a lot of TV, so I recognize a lot of the songs.) The music is neither too simple, nor to difficult. If you like playing the piano and/or singing, and you like watching TV then you'll love this book.
