Product Description

Comprehensive, Rigorous Prep for the LSAT (Includes 4 official LSATs) To prepare properly for the LSAT, you must study problems that reflect the true LSAT format. The best way to do that is to study actual LSAT tests. Now, you can do that with this book! Master The LSAT contains detailed solutions to numerous actual LSAT questions, carefully selected to illustrate every type of question that has appeared on the test in the past several years, including thorough analysis of 4 official LSATs! These solutions will introduce you to numerous analytic techniques that will help you immensely not only on the LSAT but in law school as well. The LSAT is an aptitude test. Like all aptitude tests, it must choose a medium in which to measure intellectual ability. The LSAT has chosen logic. Although this makes the LSAT hard, it also makes the test predictable--it is based on fundamental principles of logic. Master The LSAT analyzes and codifies these basic principles: the contrapositive, the if-then, pivotal words, etc. Armed with this knowledge, you will have the ability to greatly increase your score. Features:
* Analytical Reasoning: Learn powerful diagramming techniques and step-by-step strategies to solve every type of game question that has appeared on the LSAT.
* Logical Reasoning: Discover the underlying simplicity of these problems and learn the principles of logic these questions are based on.
* Reading Comprehension: Develop the ability to spot places from which questions are likely to be drawn as you read a passage (pivotal words, counter-premises, etc.).
* Mentor Exercises: These exercises provide hints, insight, and partial solutions to ease your transition from seeing LSAT problems solved to solving them on your own.
* Complete analysis of 4 official LSATs.
* Official score conversion charts and writing samples for each test.
* The average LSAT scores of 153 ABA approved law schools.
Also includes LSAT test prep software Software features:
Mentor Mode: In Mentor Mode, you are immediately told whether you answered a problem correctly, and you can immediately view a detailed solution of the problem.
Test Mode: In Test Mode, you can take a test timed and scored by the program.

5 out of 5 stars Start your study for the LSAT here!.......2007-07-14

Great book. I started with this book as the foundation of my LSAT study. It has good strategies and a good bit of practice. Don't use it alone, though. Be sure to practice the old LSATs - time can be an issue for some of us and practice the real tests can help. You might also want to get a seperate practice book, but try to find one that uses actual questions. I had one book specifically for the analogy questions.

3 out of 5 stars Some good stuff in there, but don't stop let it be your only study aid..........2007-05-08

I used this book to help prepare for the LSATs, and I do recommend it for its clear, logical explanation of the reading comprehension section. I tested just before the change in format to comparative samples, so you may want to purchase an updated version of Nova's material to get reading comp material that is most relevant to the new test section.

Notwithstanding the benefit I derived from reading the book, nothing holds a candle to Powerscore's test prep materials. If you can only afford (financially or time-wise) to do one or two books, your time is much better spent by purchasing Powerscore's Analytical Reasoning Bible and Powerscore's Logical Reasoning Bibles. Those two books alone would give you the tools you need to ace 3 out of 4 sections. You can use Nova and other prep books to help solidify reading comp, but I wouldn't rely on them for test prep in isolation.

2 out of 5 stars Mediocre to awful........2007-03-02

I purchased this book on the strength of the two featured five-star reviews and the seemingly comprehensive approach taken by the author. The book's advice ranges from decent to downright awful. The reading comprehension section would be very helpful if you score poorly in this section on practice tests, but if your Reading Comp scores are average the techniques outlined here will be of little help.

The Logic Games section is, in my opinion, abysmal. The procedure for diagramming the problems is unrealistic and an abject waste of time. For the Logic Games section, PowerScore's Logic Games Bible details a method which is far superior to Nova's and will get you real results - even if you're completely hopeless at the Games section like I was.

As for the Arguments section, Nova won't exactly hurt you, and the practice problems they provide may be helpful - but once again, other books (PowerScore and Kaplan) are much better. Many of the practice problems in this book by Nova are "simulated" and I found them to be off the mark most of the time when it comes to emulating actual LSAT problems.

The "two complete LSAT tests" in this book are over a decade old, and while not completely useless, won't help you nearly as much as practicing on the most recent tests (40 - 48).

If you're thinking of buying this, please save your money and put it towards the PowerScore books, which are very pricey but worth it both for the "battle plans" they teach you and for the fact that ALL of their sample problems come from actual LSATs.

1 out of 5 stars I normally dont review products.......2006-12-01

I don't really have a lot of time to write this review but I wanted to write one before I lost interest in the topic. Let me start by saying I'm so glad I also bought a Kaplan book or else I would have no idea what was going on, this book simply did not provide any time efficient means to solve analytical logic problems (the one people seem to have the most difficulty solving). The book only comes with a single prep test, this was not enough for me, and as for the examples they provide in the book and cd-rom they are logically flawed! Now perhaps you're thinking that I'm just bad at the analytical problems but I assure you these flaws are very basic and I am shocked that they weren't caught before publication. Also, the cd-rom does run on windows XP which is a shock considering it appears graphically to be from the early nineties. I normally would overlook the graphical shortcomings of the cd-rom if there were any useful features on it what-so-ever; there are no such features. There are many better books out there in the same price range... if you've tried the best I'd suggest you get this book because it most definitely is the rest.

2 out of 5 stars Wouldn't recommend.......2006-11-05

This was the first LSAT prep book I bought. I bought it because the organization of the book looked pleasing to me, and after flipping through it a bit I thought the author seemed to use honest, clear, and concise language. Both of those impressions turned out to be true (for the most part), but that wasn't enough to make it worth purchasing.

The only decent section, in my opinion, is the RC section. And it's only decent. I've heard Nova referred to as "THE Reading Comp book", and that's just not true. The tips Kolby gives are good, but by no means exhaustive. You can find much of the information online, from free sources.

The logic games section was not helpful to me. The games Kolby crafted himself (games not from previously administered LSATs) were obviously dissimilar to the real thing. Working these was a waste of my time. The strategies for identifying and solving specific types of games were gone through a little too quickly, and the explanations were not thorough enough.

The logical reasoning section was not helpful to me either. No real complaints here, because I didn't go through the whole section because it was turning out to be a waste of time. I can see how it would help some people, but honestly I wasn't expecting much after the games section, and I didn't get much.

I have since bought the PowerScore LG and LR Bibles, and I highly recommend them. They are 10x better than Nova.

The bottom line is that the book is not worth the purchase price. I wish I had looked into borrowing it from my local library or the career services office on my campus (I later found out that they had the e-book available). If you are interested in this book, I won't tell you NOT to buy it. I can see how someone might benefit from it. I just think there are easier, more efficient, ways to study for the LSAT. I won't be recommending Nova to anyone.

2 out of 5 stars Not as useful as it should be.......2002-11-20

While getting strategies and tips for the LSAT is nice, what I really want out of an LSAT book is lots of practice tests. This book has four full-length tests: a diagnostic test that comes before the "strategy" sections, and three additional practice tests at the end of the book. Also, after each chapter, there are exercises that let you practice a particular section of the LSAT. Unfortunately, I did the exercises before I took the practice tests, and I found that some of the questions are exactly the same. Since I had already seen some of the questions, my scores on the practice tests were probably higher than they would have been otherwise. I recommend that if you intend to take the practice tests to estimate your score, avoid the exercises or save them until you have taken all of the practice tests. Furthermore, there are errors throughout the practice tests. In the reading comprehension sections, the line numbers in questions such as "In line 29, word X is intended to mean..." are often simply wrong. On a timed practice test, it is very annoying to have to waste valuable seconds figuring out what the test's author meant to ask.

The rest of the book isn't as bad. It offers two different "courses" for people without much time to prepare: the "Accelerated Course" for people who have about thirty days before they have to take the LSAT, and the "Supercram" course for people who have two weeks or less. The main difference is that there are shorter "exercises" for the Supercram course, and fewer sections to study. I didn't follow either of these courses, but they might be useful for people who need help budgeting time.

2 out of 5 stars This could have been much better.......2002-08-15

Although this book boasts 4 full length exams and step-by-step coaching, it appears to be hastily put together and poorly edited. Some of the questions in the exams are woefully filled with errors, and the coaching section isn't that much better. I purchased this book along with several others to prepare for the LSAT and I must say that I'm pleased that this isn't the sole study aid I'm relying on. I'd suggest looking elsewhere for study aids, there are better ones out there.

2 out of 5 stars "ARCO -- Our Name Means Your [Bad] LSAT Score".......2002-07-30

I have studied almost all of the LSAT study guides published and this is the worst. It is loaded with typos, omitted words, and various other errors. Given that verbal precision is the absolute key to the LSAT, this shortcoming is analogous to a math textbook with numerical errors. Beyond the accuracy issue, I found the practice tests to be, on the whole, a bit easier than the real LSAT. This may give you a false sense of security when you go in to take the real deal. Finally, the explanations for the "game" section tend to be largley unintelligable. The ONLY positive thing I can say about this book is that it is one of the only ones that includes an "experimental section," which means that you get more material for your money -- even if it is patently flawed material

I have completed the Princeton Review's LSAT class (which uses actual *real* previous lsat's for their practice and homework) and this book's questions are not at ALL like the real LSAT questions - especially the arguments/logical reasoning questions. The games sections are somewhat helpful, but they mostly give examples of easier games, and the reading comp sections are much easier, as well ... someone who ONLY used this as their study guide would be majorly shocked on the day of the test and wouldn't do as well as they could have!

This is a horrible study guide. The practice questions are not even remotely the same as those that appear on the actual LSAT. Even worse, they are substantially easier than the real questions leaving you woefully unprepared when test day comes. If you know somebody who you would like to see fail the LSAT, by all means get them this book.

A high score on your LSAT can make the difference between getting into a good law school and getting into a great law school. If you're serious about doing well on your LSAT, you'll need to work hard--and Everything You Need to Score High on the LSAT can help. This book is divided into four parts, beginning with general information about taking the LSAT. This section includes three sample study plans for optimizing the time you have to prepare--whether three months, three weeks, or just a few days. A full-length diagnostic examination helps you see where you're weak, followed by a "coaching program" that analyzes each question type and gives you strategies for staying out of traps. Three complete sample LSATs (with full explanations for each correct answer) round out the text. Martinson delivers this advice in a user-friendly manner: The layout is clean and simple, tips and traps are highlighted in the many sidebars, and the author provides "summing it up" or "what smart test-takers need to know" pages for review at the end of most chapters. From its first page ("The Top 10 Ways to Raise Your Score") to its last page (explanations of the answers to the third practice exam), Everything You Need to Score High on the LSAT provides exactly that. --C.B. Delaney

1 out of 5 stars Test questions not representative of actual LSAT.......2000-10-08

I used this book to prepare for the LSAT, and do not believe it provided questions as dificult as I actually encountered.

The reading level required on the actual test was higher, using more sophisticated language and requiring more subtle discrimination in selecting the correct answer.

The actual test's analytical reasoning section (i.e., "games"), was also more dificult than this guide prepared me for. In particular, two of the four were of a type not described in this book. The clues also tended to be more complex, and included more nested provisional statements.

I recommend you find something else to prepare with.

        1 out of 5 stars Dissatisfied customer........1999-09-25

My problem with this book is that after taking the diagnostic test it contains, I soon learned that it DOES NOT include a score conversion chart like the real LSAT contains. Without the score conversion chart it could more difficult for the test taker to gauge his/her improvement. Also buyer beware: it DOES NOT contain actual practice and test questions from previosly administered LSAT exams as do both the Princeton Review and Kaplan LSAT prep books. As a consumer this was not obvious to me. I was dissapointed in this product.

3 out of 5 stars helpful, but not completely.......1999-06-16

the book gives overviews of everything on the LSAT, that's true. but, it seems, esp. with the logic and the analytical reasoning games, it needs more in-depth information. it's probably on par with most of the available study guides.

                Book Description

Anti-sweatshop activist and commentator Andrew Ross reports on the Inventiveness of low-pay campaigners around the world.

While critics have decried anti-globalization as an aimless—and endless—assortment of causes, the fight for fair labor is arguably the movement's greatest success. The industrial sweatshop has become a byword for corporate-led globalization; the world's lowest-paying jobs have been the subject of high-profile media coverage; and exposés of sweatshop conditions have become a staple of investigative reporting and public attention. As a result, fair labor standards are now on the negotiating table of world trade agreements.

Although the fight is far from over, in Low Pay, High Profile, Andrew Ross presents case studies from around the world—from the health hazards faced by Asian microchip workers and recyclers of electronic waste to the controversy over Nike's contract with Manchester United, the world's leading soccer club—to show how and why the movement found the strength and energy to shake the confidence of corporate and financial elites. Here is an unabashedly partisan inquiry into the cruelty and indignity of the modern workplace that shows how critique combined with action can bring world-changing results.

                    Book Description

Hardbound. This book is concerned with the development of tourism and tourism public policy, and the strategic management of failure of tourism to realize its commercial potential. The particular salience of this research lies in the fact that it has been conducted during conceivably the most interesting (politically) and volatile (globally) period for the world's tourism industry. Increasing competition, economic, and environmental issues combined with the continued threat of terrorism, and instability in the middle-east, necessitated governments assessing and redefining their tourism public policies. How they approached this in the late nineties and new Millennium is reflected in the first part of the book.

The second part focuses on Scotland whose tourism public policy issues in the late nineties were focused, concentrated, and mutated by globalization, political devolution, and the restoration of the Scottish Parliament in 1999. In consequence to

                    Book Description

Best-selling classicist Peter Green recreates the life and times of the Greek lyric poet Sappho in this beautifully conceived, sharply detailed work of historical imagination. We meet Sappho at the age of fifty, when she is shaken by her fatal and final love affair with Phaon. She narrates her own story from the vantage point of self-questioning middle age, and her candid meditations make intimate, engrossing reading.
Only fragments of Sappho's poetry survive. In imagining Sappho's life Green found his task "rather like that of an archaeologist reassembling some amphora from hundreds of shards--of which more than half are missing." Yet, in his synthesis of historical evidence and ebullient invention, Green produces a seamless, moving, and persuasive portrait. He recreates Sappho's life by interweaving her surviving poetry into the narrative, not as quotations, but as her own imagined speeches and thoughts.
Sappho's life spanned one of the most exciting periods in Greek history. Green's novel, full of details about daily life on ancient Lesbos, draws the reader into the political and social climate of her world: the civil strife accompanying the transition from aristocracy to mercantilism, the household relations between slave and aristocrat, the details of sea travel in the Aegean. Green wrote the novel while living on Lesbos, and his graceful rendering of the landscape, the rhythms of the seasons, and the varied flora of Sappho's island pervades the narrative.
Sappho's poetry reveals a direct, spontaneous woman who eschewed artifice and embellishment. Green's extraordinary talent captures those qualities and brings this woman of unflinching honesty very much to life.

                    4 out of 5 stars anatomy of a mid-life crisis.......2001-05-17

Peter Green has created an insightful portrait of Sappho and the world in which she lived. This first person narrative is written with abundant poetic imagery -- great for giving you the feeling that Sappho is really the author, but not so great for following the storyline. Written by a reminiscing middle-aged Sappho, the plot continually shifts time frames, making it hard to keep up with what's going on. Like fragments of Sappho's poetry itself, the pieces *do* eventually come together, but only after many, many pages of frustrating reading.

One caveat: One of the back cover reviewers describes this as "an explicitly erotic modern novel," and maybe that was true when it was originally published in 1965. What sex there is is far from graphic, although it is sensual. ... .

5 out of 5 stars Extraordinary approach to a fascinating character and time........1998-01-30

I've been touched by this powerful novel. What amaze me most is the way Sappho's character is revealed in all her plain and complex humanity. Is not a Sappho's personal account only . Besides the novel recreates its world with such authority and ease that makes a real pleasure to read it.
