Book Description
Imagine the dumbest thing you've ever seen online. Here are 505 pages that put that to shame.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth it.......2007-07-01
I spotted this in the library. I read up to..maybe 50 of them. I gave up reading the snide/immature comments, where I started just looking at the headlines of each. When I finished, then I started to look up the first one which is the origami paper website. I read the stuff. I wasn't amused. Then second...dishwasher pete or something...it was morbidly waste of time. It just clicked in me...I was actually wasting my time. Exactly what the book is... a waste of time. I thought it was just for the hell of it, but it turned out that everything in the book (not all but most) was disturbing. I knew that I was going to get bored real fast, and the book provided that for me very easily. It's not that I am jealous of a 17 year old nitwit writing a book, but more of like how he wasted his precious teenage years over something like this. I am sure this book will crack up the morons, but those with college degrees and those who are serious about life, like me,...they will have to be in a agreement that this book is trivial and best to be thrown in the gutter. I understand the purpose of the book, and I understand what the author is trying to do...I just picked up the book for fun, and it wasn't fun, not because I chose to be close minded, because I just refuse to litter my mind with garbage, especially learning that they are people out there with a great degree of depravity and plain dumbness. Just get a life.
Kudos.......2007-04-08
I also discovered this book because I found out a web page of mine is listed in it (#297, Japanese Pizza page). I haven't actually read the book but you have to give the kid kudos for writing a book on what is, essentially, a list of sites you might find on the Internet. I'm giving him four stars for having the good taste to include my site though given the factual accuracy for the entry I have to doubt the rest of the book. (He says my page is the home page of a Pizza restaurant in Japan even though if you read the first two sentences on my page, it's readily apparent that it's not.)
Holy smoke! I'm in this book!.......2007-03-20
I was doing a Google search for one of my usernames to see where all it would pop up on the web, and came across a listing for this book. Apparently, at least two of my webpages are in it! Maybe more! All I could access with the free sample viewer were references on page 129 to two of my sites, "Fendick Swern's Dreamy Dreamworld" and "On The Hoof." Apparently, they are numbers 248 and 249 on the list. I entered the name of another one of my sites in the search engine and a page number came up, but I was denied access to a free sample.
These are just knock-off sites that I did for fun years ago--how in the world did this guy ever find them? What a mind-boggling surprise. I guess I should buy a copy of the book, huh?
(I have to rate it in order to post this, so I'm giving it a mid-range "3.")
Just another lackluster website in book form........2006-12-22
A few of the sites listed are actually entertaining, but most are just the usual online drivel. The writer's comments are as boring as the websites he lists; either his sarcasm doesn't translate without emoticons, or he simply isn't a very good writer. This book would have worked much better as just a website itself. I may have bookmarked the website, but I definitely wouldn't pay for the book.
Great sites, but..........2005-10-26
I wish Crowley would just list the sites, give a brief description and leave it at that. The "comments" are awful - I don't even know the guy and I seriously dislike him because his comments bug me THAT much. I have hisother book, 505 Weirdest OnLine Stores. You know, both of his books are a good resource for when you're bored and want something funny to look up while you're in front of the computer, but Mr. Crowley, seriously, your attempts at humor and being "cool" have failed miserably. Stick to just listing stuff. trust me.

Bradley Denton is alive and well and writing fabulous stuff.......2006-06-15
If you like a healthy dose of humor (and not a little music history) injected into your SF, I highly recommend Mr. Denton's 1992 Campbell Award-winning novel.
Denton makes the reader care about an imperfect, psychologically flawed protagonist who, by the end of the novel, reaches a remarkable (but not unrealistic) level of satisfaction and self-awareness. His secondary characters are well-developed and the reader might appreciate a couple of them even more than the main character.
Denton addresses a number of issues: the influence of television and passive entertainment on society, religion vs. morality, and the dangers of blindly siding with one point of view. He gives the reader something to think about, but doesn't preach or beat the reader over the head with his opinion.
Specific human interests allow "Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede" to be engrossing, compassionate, and entertaining. Denton's love of music, dogs, and motorcycles is enough to touch the reader, even if that particular affection is not something shared in common.
This title is no longer in print (unjust world!), but it's most certainly worth the effort to find a used copy.
Surreal SF That is Extremely Real.......2005-02-10
I was born and raised about 10 miles from where Bradley Denton went to high school and that location in Kansas is the scene of the climax in this extremely funny and bizarre SF novel. Denton is a brilliant writer, simply put. He creates believable characters with whom it is incredibly easy to empathize, then places them in extremely surreal and unimaginable situations. The result is a modern nod to Heinlein with humor and violence running hand-in-hand to point out the foibles and hypocrisy of modern society. These themes are common in all of Denton's novels and short stories, but this particular book brings it home in a much funnier story. Of course, the impact of the book is even stronger when some of the action literally travels down a street you grew up on and comes to a climax in the local drive-in theater where you spent many a hot summer night as a youth. At any rate, fans of classic rock'n'roll who also enjoy brilliant science fiction will love Buddy Holly is Alive and Well on Ganymede. Bring the popcorn!
A MUST-read for sci-fi OR Rock and roll fans.......1999-01-05
Although my generation is much more rcent than the rock and roll legends of this book, I found the novel entertaining, exciting, suspensful, and with a great sense of humor. Even rock-and-roll fans, if not sci-fi fans, should read this treasure!
Book Description
A while back, out West Texas way, a boy named Charles Hardin Holley was born. He was named after his granddaddy Charles and his granddaddy Hardin. From the first moment, though, his mama called him Buddy. Buddy Holly.
That Buddy could shoot marbles with the best, hit homers in the red dirt, and pelt cans with his slingshot. But come sixth grade, when Buddy met up with a guitar, he never let it go. Later Buddy heard a new sound -- part country, part gospel, and part blues -- and got even more fired up.
Hot-diggity! It was the birth of rock 'n' roll.

Excellent.......2007-01-11
Good story. My husband and son both love it. We're big fans of his music ;)
Maybe Baby...This Book's For Us! Rave On!.......2006-07-30
What a wonderful way of introducing younger generations to Buddy Holly! This rock pioneer of the 1950s with his timeless classics will undoubtedly continue to delight listeners for time immemorial. I love this book!
Buddy Holly, a young musician from Lubbock Texas is beautifully illustrated and presented in this book. He became a rock icon in the 1950s and his untimely death in a plane crash in 1959 sadly stilled a voice that delighted many. He along with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper perished in that accident in in Iowa cornfield on February 3, 1959. Holly has since been immortalized in Don McClean's 1971 song which I never cared for, "Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie."
This book is truly a gem and a masterpiece. The delightful pictures and the "personalization" of the young Buddy Holly is sure to spark young readers' interest. Bustard does a fine job of chronicling the rock legend's life and untimely death in a sensitive and serious way. Be sure to get a Buddy Holly CD as a gift to go along with this book.
Bustard is an excellent author and it would come as no surprise if this book were to win awards, which it truly deserves.
The Problem With Today's Kids.......2005-05-12
--is that they don't know enough about Buddy Holly the rock star of the 1950s! Well, why should they, people who knew him personally are fading fast, and even the hit film THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY was released way back in 1978. (Although it's out on video and is readily available, as are each of Holly's recordings). Finally here's a book which could serve as a primer to educating young people about the legend who died too soon. It has colorful, attractive pictures of young people at work and play, and you can't help but recognize the familiar bespectacles countenance of our hero.
Bustard is a fine writer with many Texas quirks to her writing, and while some young readers may not be able to decipher her lingo, others will go for it with gusto. I expect this child's biography to win the Newberry Award for book of the year. One proviso, of course the story ends rather sadly. Some young children are not ready to take in a whole book which winds up with the main character dying a terrible, lurid death. But most of today's kids will be able to take it, and before long they will be rocking out to RAVE ON, PEGGY SUE, and TRUE LOVE WAYS right in front of your eyes. I expect this book will be a big hit in Lubbock, Texas, center of the Buddy industry and eye of the Holly hurricane. Remember--"it's so easy to fall in love."
Book Description
When Buddy Holly died in 1959, the whole word mourned. His career lasted three short years and he had an outstanding impact on rock'n'roll. Yet he was only 22 when he died. In The Buddy Holly Story, rock journalist and broadcaster John Tobler takes a perceptive look at the short and legendary career of the bespectacled young Texan. Illustrated with more than 120 photographs, this large format biography explores in words and pictures Buddy Holly's life and personality, and the influence of this music which can still be felt through the myriad re-releases and cover versions of his rock'n'roll classics.
Customer Reviews:
Average book, hard to find.......2002-07-24
Photo quality is average (not the best at times), basic info for a general fan, nothing too deep. Good intro to Buddy in general & short in length for those with an average interest.
Very nice book.......1999-05-01
I have read some biographies before this one, but I think that this one was the best so far. THe reason for that is that it is a lot more shorter than most biographies but it still has all the information I need, and some extra too like the part about the movie called Buddy Holly Story. Overall it is a good book and I recomend it to everyone who is interested about the real King and Creator of Rock'n'Roll, Buddy Holly.

Two guinea pigs escape from their cage.
Customer Reviews:
Adorable story even if you don't have a guinea pig!.......2003-05-03
I enjoy sharing this book with my preschool class. It never fails to invite speculation and the creation of our own stories on the adventures of our own pet guinea pigs.
A fun book to read over and over!.......2002-09-30
Everyone in our family LOVED reading about the adventures of John Willie and Freddy McGee. From the start, these two curious guinea pigs with interesting names kept all of us laughing and looking forward to the next page. The colorful pictures along with lively descriptions kept us interested in their adventures from beginning to end. Although our Kindergartener brought this book home from the school library, our 2nd grader and our 6th grader read it often and loved it too. It has truly become one of my own personal favorites. This is a book any parent wouldn't mind reading over and over again.
Anyone who loves guinea pigs, not just for kids.......2002-07-22
Those of us who love guinea pigs can become addicted; we can become fanatics. And why not? They're cute, they're cuddly, they're charming. This book may be a story for children, but it emphasizes the playful nature of guinea pigs that outsiders are unaware of.
Many people think of small cage pets as boring - well, you'd be boring too, if you spent your whole life in a room only a little larger than you are! But give a guinea pig room to explore, and explore he will. Real guinea pigs explore rooms in trains (one piggle behind another); these two piggies illustrate this behavior excellently. Real piggies push balls around with their noses, run through PVC tubes or ferret tubes, and occasionally tease larger pets by running under their noses; John Willie and Freddy McGee again illustrate this real behavior, in an amusing way.
The pictures are great - they'll have you saying "I know a guinea pig that looks like that!" The text is minimal, as would be expected, but what there is, is amusing. Words are not confined to one-syllable words; the author is aware that young children may have a receptive vocabulary larger than their speaking vocabulary, and also is aware that a book should be amusing for the adult who may have to read it 80 times in a row for their child.
I own this book and I don't even have children; other adults who visit us and are amused by our pet guinea pigs wind up taking this book off our shelves and reading it all the way through. Sometimes, it never makes it back off the coffee table and onto the shelf, because friends keep reading it. Buy your own copy, people!
Delightful to read and see!.......1999-11-06
John Willy and Freddy McGee have a wonderful time, and so will anyone else who reads this delightful book. This book is perfect for reading aloud. The story flows so well you might miss the beautiful illustrations-so take your time and read it over and over! This is a definite "must have" for any child's library. Thanks Holly.

Great piano (guitar/vocal) songbook.......2006-10-31
Although the back cover states "Easy-to-play arrangements for piano, guitar and voice" this is not at all a beginners book.
Some songs are pretty easy, but overall the level is moderate to pretty advanced. There is quite a variety of "genre" as well I think. Some nice mellow almost ballad like songs, some bluesy tunes, some jazz, a little rock.
I will scan the back cover of the book and upload the image ( if I can ) so everyone can see what songs are included.

Book Description
Globalization, Technological Change and Labor Markets is an edited collection of papers drawn from the conference held at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies in June 1997. This conference brought German and American perspectives to bear on the complex issues of global competition, technological change, and labor markets in the welfare state.
The contributions are organized into five sections dealing with various aspects of the problem: (1) Macroeconomic Perspectives; (2) Microeconomic Aspects; (3) the German Model of Labor Relations; (4) the Social Market Economy; and (5) Trade Policy and Environmental and Labor Standards. This edited collection seeks to explore many of the key issues surrounding the debate over the impact of globalization and technological change on labor markets in Europe and the United States.
`This volume provides path-breaking insights as to why globalization has wreaked havoc on the welfare states that had once propelled Western Europe and North America to an unprecedented standard of living throughout the post-war period. The high level of scholarship contained in the individual chapters forms a compelling argument that will convince even the most resistant skeptics that the days of the classic welfare state are numbered. More importantly, this book is filled with concrete suggestions based on careful economic analysis as to how technological change and globalization can be harnessed in conjunction with a new role of the state to provide a high standard of living.'
