Must have.......2005-09-30
This book was VERY useful. All categories were very detailed. The reviews of the how different age groups liked the attractions was very helpful. I would definitely buy this book again.
useful book but too thick.......2005-09-27
This is a really useful book, tons of tips, saved me a lot $$ and time. The downside is too heavy to carry in the parks.
The most valuable thing I learn is to rent a multi-family vacation house with my friends, 16 people for only $199 a day. We all enjoy the stay at a spacious luxury resort. check this out: http://www.cyberrentals.com/index.cfm/property/126687
don't leave home without it!.......2005-09-26
I had the the 2002 edition and now that the package & ticketing structure has changed, the new edition was really helpful. This book is a great tool in preparing to go; eg. where to stay, when to go, how to get the most bang for your buck. I can tell you that I got priority seatings for breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table and saved 20% at my moderate resort because of the information in this book. The book more than pays for itself!
the onofficial guide to walt disney world.......2005-09-25
Excellent resource for anyone planning either a first trip or repeat visit to the WDW. Be sure to read the reviews on restaurants, because they include readers reviews.
A little pessimistic, but complete.......2005-09-16
A very thorough book. There are excessive transcripts of opinions, which are confusing at times and make the book a little too big. The touring plans are a bit commando style, but they're interesting nonetheless.

Book Description
The common wisdom that business contributions to the common good are counterproductive in the new competitive global marketplace does not hold up to empirical research. In fact, doing good is good for business, and a majority of businesses do provide some form of community support, which Besser discovered in her exhaustive survey of the Iowa business community. Business owners and managers often act out of a sense of community spirit and a certain obligation to better the common good. While the increasingly globalized economy has encouraged a number of large corporations to become freewheelers, the vast majority of companies are firmly rooted in place and look at their locales with more than just a utilitarian eye. Extensive interviews with Iowa business owners, managers, and business and community leaders are combined with findings from prior studies of corporate citizenship, and the evidence clearly indicates that the majority of businesses provide some form of community support. Most owners feel they should do more than just make a profit, so they often seek ways to give back to their communities, a move that is usually nurtured within the business community itself. However, corporate altruism carries risks. Many business owners have unwittingly offended customers and clients by their acts of civic spirit. Besser concludes her book by addressing the potential threats to business social responsibility posed by globalization and recommends steps to enhance socially responsible capitalism. Anybody interested in the complex interaction of businesses and the communities they reside in will enjoy reading this positive revisitation of the mutually supportive relationship between trade and polity.

The First Mountain Man.......2005-10-23
A very interesting story which helps to set the stage for other books to follow in this series. A good stand alone tale but also the foundation to all in this series. Very believable events and interesting characters.
The First Mountain Man: The Preacher.......2004-04-07
I loved this book and want to continue to read the rest in the series. I couldn't put the book down, waiting to see what was going to happen to this young, brave boy that grows into a fine man. I want to follow the story as his life unfolds, but want to keep them in order. I would like to thank the author for an exciting adventure of the true west, and hope there will be a happy ending to Art, the Preacher's life.
Great! Reading.......2002-03-26
Really enjoyed this book. After reading all the Preacher books and almost all the Mountain Man Series, I felt that the author was repeating many sections in some of the books. Not this one! It tells the story of Preacher when he started out. So it was all new material. It was hard to put down!
Very good book.......1999-06-26

Author Janet Lowe has assembled a unique collection of Billy Graham's religious and political opinions, as well as his deeply personal stories. Most of the book features Billy Graham's actual words, taken from speeches, newscasts, articles, and interviews--all of which are introduced by Lowe. There are few surprises when Graham shares his opinions on politics and morality. For example, he reiterates his position on racial discrimination (having once been a strong opponent to racial segregation, he is now opposed to discrimination) and on abortion (in favor, only in cases of rape, incest, or if the mother's life is endangered). Fans of the legendary preacher will probably most appreciate his personal stories and reflections, including the discussion of married life with Ruth. Speaking of the couple's tender love affair, Graham shows how a shared devotion to God has strengthened their sexual and emotional intimacy.
Book Description
"God calls us to invest our time, our very lives, primarily in people, not in projects or possessions."-Billy Graham
Billy Graham is one of those rare individuals who has become a legend in his own lifetime. Recognized as the world's most famous evangelist, he has preached to more people than anyone in the history of religion. Billy Graham's influence, however, reaches far beyond the pulpit as he has become a worldwide crusader for religion, a spokesman for political and social change, and a sublimely successful businessman and fundraiser.
The wisdom and guidance he has offered the world are captured in Billy Graham Speaks, a unique portrait of the reverend in his own words-culled from sermons, newscasts, articles, and interviews. Graham talks about everything from marriage, children, and faith, to religious tolerance, leadership, and integrity, to popes, presidents, and ordinary people. He reflects on his life as an evangelist who has traveled the world and witnessed some of this century's milestone events, including the advent of racial integration in the South, the fall of Communism, and the social and political struggles in Northern Ireland and South Africa. He looks within to confront his own feelings of self-doubt and discuss his undying belief in God that has been central to his life for more than three quarters of a century.
Here is just a sample of what you'll find inside:
* "All over the world, whenever I meet people face to face, I am made aware of this personal need among the famous and successful as well as the lonely and obscure."
* "I'm looking forward to death. I'll be very happy to get out of this body and into the world that's being prepared."
* "As long as there is a soul to be won by Christ, I'm under orders by the Lord to go try to win that soul to Christ."
* "If anything bothers me, it is the thought that at Judgment Day I may find that I have not been as faithful as some other minister who is slugging it out day after day with few visible achievements . . ."
The world listens when BILLY GRAHAM speaks "The more the archeologist digs and the more the scientist discovers, the greater the confirmation of the truth of the Bible."
"Billions and billions of stars are out there, and behind them all is God."
"It's going to be quite a revealing thing at the Last Judgment when we see everyone standing naked before God."
"I am only a Western Union messenger boy, delivering a telegram from God to the door of humanity."
Like other Speaks books, Billy Graham Speaks was created through the independent research of the author Janet Lowe. It has not been authorized by its subject.

Book Description
One-time amateur boxer Jack Doyle, an irreverent and rebellious advertising account representative, goes to work one fine Chicago day and finds his desk--and his job--both gone. A two-time loser at the marriage game as well, Doyle, usually ultra-confident, fishes himself out of a bottle to take stock, realizing, "with a thumping finality, that Life sure as hell did have his number and was crunching it."
At loose ends, Doyle accepts a most unusual offer from an acquaintance, Moe Kellman, "furrier to the Mob," to fix a horse race. The context of making the deal, a Cubs game at storied Wrigley Field, sets the tone for the drama that follows. Thus begins a chain of events that will lead the FBI to Doyle's door where they "coopt" him into a quest after people who are maiming or killing thoroughbred horses for their insurance values. Their number one target is a loathsome media mogul who can't bear to lose...at anything.
Built upon recent factual events, spiced with satire and peppered throughout with engaging loonies, Blind Switch is a noteworthy first novel with a hero forced to ask in its ultimate line, "Where have I gone right?"
Customer Reviews:
Saddle Up and Hold On - It's a Fun Ride!!.......2004-12-13
I love books that deal with horses. I especially look forward to those which deal with horse racing. Add to that setting a hero with some serious defects in his character, an interesting scenario which puts him on the side of the angels, several villians whom you will love to hate, some people you will genuinely care about and a generous sprinkling of serious nut cases and you have a very readable, thoroughly enjoyable first novel by John McEvoy. I have read most of the writings of the late, great Dick Francis and in my judgment, references to his writings in comparison to this story is comparing apples to oranges. Both authors have an interesting way of telling their story, but there is little comparison to how they go about it. This is a story that will hold your interest, tickle your funny bone and satisfy your sense of justice. That's a trifecta worth betting on!!
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Races.......2004-08-14
Blind Switch is worth the read! A lively book with full blown interesting, and some despicable characters, this book kept me going. McEvoy makes the world of horse breeding and racing a seductive one and one I would like to visit again. He blends the good guys with the bad guys as the story weaves from Chicago to Kentucky and en route we watch the main character grow and ultimately flourish.
A fast and refreshing story!
A must read.......2004-07-28
Blind Switch is a great ride - lots of unusual and goofy characters - some are people you'd like to know, including Jack Doyle, the main character. He starts out in a "blind switch", essentially boxed in by life, though in part by his own doing. He evolves and revolves through the world of thoroughbred horse racing. You will too. Great suspense, life lessons, and peripheral romance. You'll hate the bad guys and enjoy the good guys, with lots of laughs. The Chicago references are fun for us Chicagoans. Ever wonder why horse racing is actually a clean sport? Because the FBI, the mob, and the industry itself need and want it to be. It's a great read! I didn't want it to end. I'm waiting for McEvoy's next move.
Fans of the late Dick Francis will thoroughly enjoy .......2004-07-28
When Jack Doyle is downsized from his corporate Chicago job, a friend tells him he can make an easy $25,000 on a horse race. He accepts the job and the fix is totally successful but the FBI has an idea what he did even though they have no evidence to convict. The agents "convince" him to gather evidence that rich and powerful Harvey Rexroth is having his horses killed for the insurance money. One of Rexroth's employees, manager Aldous Bolger reports his suspicions to the FBI
Bolger agrees to help Jack get hired by Rexroth and Doyle but finds he likes and respects the man who loves the horses as if they were his own. The FBI believes the leader of the horse killing ring is former jockey Ronald Montvedt, a stone cold killer who will do anything for money. When Bolger catches him trying to kill a stallion, the ex-jockey maims Bolger. Doyle is now determined to take Montvedt and Rexroth down, no matter what methods he has to use.
Fans of books of the late Dick Francis will thoroughly enjoy BLIND SWITCH, a novel about horses and people who care for them. The protagonist undergoes a metamorphosis as he stays in contact with the beautiful animals and goes from being a shady character to a person who wants to see justice done. John McEvoy has a unique voice that will win him a place with many fans and BLIND SWITCH deserves to win an award for best new talent.

Book Description
"With your help I could endure any pain. I wonder," he went on, in a lower voice, as though thinking aloud, "if this strength of yours could inspire me to bear the worst pain there could be for me, - I mean, if I had to make you suffer in any way?" Helen looked down at him, surprised, not quite understanding. "Suppose," he said, - "of course one can suppose anything, - that for your best good I had to make you suffer: could I, do you think?" -from John Ward, Preacher The fiction of 19th-century novelist Margaret Deland was greatly concerned with the particular challenges faced by the women in her era: the fight for suffrage, the public disgrace of single motherhood, and the secret shame of adultery. Her first novel, 1888's John Ward, Preacher, is her most sensational, a story of a Calvinist minister, his freethinking wife, Helen, and their clash over religious doctrine-and in particular the concept of eternal damnation-that ultimately destroys them. A daring and original work about a woman asserting her intellectual independence, this is a lost classic that will electrify readers of American feminist literature. American poet and novelist MARGARET DELAND (1857-1945) was a contributor to Harper's Magazine. She also wrote the novels Sidney (1890), Philip and His Wife (1894), and The Awakening of Helena Richie (1906), among others. Old Chester Tales (1898) is a collection of her short fiction.
Customer Reviews:
John Ward vs. Helen Ward.......2006-04-22
This interesting novel explores two major themes: the questioning of orthodox Christianity and a woman's independent thinking in opposition to her husband's beliefs. John Ward is a rigid Calvinist minister, literal believer in all things Scriptural and all other orthodox Christian doctrines. His wife Helen, however, is not at all rigid and questions many tenets of the faith, including original sin and salvation. Ward believes he has a duty to "save" his wife and convert her to his beliefs, and this becomes a war of wills between husband and wife. Some in the novel criticize Helen not for her religious beliefs but because she won't "obey" her husband. Thus Helen faces a dual conflict. Ward, proving how unbending, even unloving he can be, forbids Helen to enter their home while she remains defiant, which sets up a "forced" ending, but the only way to resolve the issue: John becomes ill, Helen rushes to his bedside to aid him, and he dies. Helen is then left "totally without faith." The deathbed ending seems too easy a solution without ever really solving anything, but Deland writes well and convincingly in this, her first novel.
Interestingly, in England in the same year (1888), Mrs. Humphrey Ward published her novel ROBERT ELSMERE, which explores the same religious theme only in reverse: the wife is the orthodox one and the preacher husband is the one with the "heretical" ideas. Both books were best sellers at the time, though ELSMERE has probably become more highly regarded over time. Deland would continue advocating her unorthodox religious ideas in future novels, but never as basically or successfully as in JOHN WARD.

Book Description
Set in a small town in Vermont in 1899, Robbie, the son of a preacher, decides to give up God and become an atheist because he is tired of trying to please God and members of the community are predicting the end is near. Robbie is willing to take his chances for the opportunity to do what he wants like Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer did. His behavior does nothing to improve his father's opinion of him, nor does it get him the attention he is craving. Not until the consequences of his actions hurt others does he put a stop to his wayward behavior and begin to realize his father might love him regardless of his actions.
Customer Reviews:
Preacher's boy review.......2006-12-19
I thought that Preacher's boy had an intresting first couple chapters but after that i started to notice it got boring. i think there should be more of a plot in the book. it is basically about 2 boys named robbie and willie who pull pranks and get in trouble. After Robbie meats Zeb and Vile it gets a little better but I still think it could of been a little more well-written.
Preacher's Boy by Katherine Paterson.......2006-05-30
I picked out this book to read because of the author. I had read 'Bridge to Terabithia' two years before for school and I loved it, so I figured that anything else written by Katherine Paterson would be just as good. I was right. I started the book because of the author, and I finished it because of the story.
Preacher's Boy is about a young boy in 1899 who thinks that the world will end with the year. His father is the town preacher, but Robbie, the boy, thinks that the ten commandments are too confining. He thinks that since he can't do wat he wants while he is a Christian, he will become an atheist. Unfortunantly, he doesn't know what they are areally called, so he spends the entire book calling himself an apeist.
This book is filled with laughs and funny situations, many of which made me laugh out loud. I would definantly recommend this book to anyone that wants a good laugh. This book is probably best for ages 7-14, although I think that anyone would enjoy it.
No More Pranks.......2004-12-16
I thought this book only disurved 3 stars because I really didn't get into it that much. I almost just sat it down and found a new book after reading the first chapter of it. I mean all that was in it was that Robbie and his friend Willie were basically in some kind of prank pulling contest. Them against the Weston boys. It sounded really boring. Anyway it ended up getting a little bit more interesting when Robbie's bigger brother Elliot, who is kind of mest up in the head, gets lost on the forth of July. Then the next day when Robbie and his friend Willie were supposed to be going fishing Willie Grandma has him working. So Robbie to there secret hideout and that's when he finds so poor people living in their now. That's all I can really tell without telling the end.
One of the Great Authors.......2001-07-20
A book by Katherine Paterson is always difficult to judge. The main reason is because she has written a truly great book--"Bridge to Terabithia"--and a number of others that are nearly as great. Because of this, there is a tendency to be a tougher judge of her books as if every new novel should be a masterpiece. Fortunately, Ms. Paterson lives up to the challenge time after time.
I am constantly amazed at how well Ms. Paterson is able to write in the voice of young person, creating very realistic characters. Though a bit older myself these days, I can identify very well with Robbie as he stuggles with the difficulties in his life. I am particularly impressed with the depiction of Robbie's relationship with his father and how he struggles to understand him. Also, the difficulties he has in being himself while at the same time trying to be the son of a good man who has an important and public job in his hometown.
Though I don't think any good book is really gender-specific to an active reader, I can see where young boys would find this book speaking to them a little more. Still, I would encourage anyone with a love of good literature to read this book. It is a stong depiction of an interesting character.
A great read for all ages.......2001-03-20
At first I was skeptical about this book because in the beginning of the book Robbie and Willie just play pranks on the other townspeople. I soon realized I was wrong. It was jam-packed with action, adventure, love and care. It made me feel as though I was joining Robbie on his big adventures. This book is thrilling and is a must-read. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age. This was a swell read.

Loved It! I couldn't put it down. Romantic and Fun!.......2005-03-06
I hated to read as a child and wished that I would love to read. God worked in my life to where this was my very first inspirational book I read. When I started reading I could not put it down for wanting to know what was going on. I truely enjoied this book. It is a very cute love story of two complete opposites. It is about compromise and God's will working in the hearts of the characters. I highly recommend it! I know that I can read this book over and over. Now I love to read and I know that God started working in my life through inspiring words of authors with great knowledge of Godly lives. Sit back on the porch and relax for a great adventure.
great weekend read w/entertaining characters.......2004-04-14
This book was fabulous. I have long enjoyed romantic fiction, but I find many of the "romance" novels are way too racy for me. However, I have previously been disappointed by Christian romantic fiction-the characters are just too often too dry, with a kiss at the very end! In this book, I appreciated how Lyn Cote allowed us to see the romance between Tanner & Lucie develop, instead of lots of longing looks and troubles interfering until their romance blossoms in the last ten pages. It was much more realistic and human-you could see how Tanner & Lucie grew in their love for each other, but also were true to God's will for their lives and their personalities. That made it fun to read! I will definitely be buying more of her books.
