The spiritual premise in The Purpose-Driven Life is that there are no accidents---God planned everything and everyone. Therefore, every human has a divine purpose, according to God's master plan. Like a twist on John F. Kennedy's famous inaugural address, this book could be summed up like this: "So my fellow Christians, ask not what God can do for your life plan, ask what your life can do for God's plan." Those who are looking for advice on finding one's calling through career choice, creative expression, or any form of self-discovery should go elsewhere. This is not about self-exploration; it is about purposeful devotion to a Christian God. The book is set up to be a 40-day immersion plan, recognizing that the Bible favors the number 40 as a "spiritually significant time," according to author Rick Warren, the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, touted as one of the nation largest congregations. Warren's hope is that readers will "interact" with the 40 chapters, reading them one day at a time, with extensive underlining and writing in the margins. As an inspirational manifesto for creating a more worshipful, church-driven life, this book delivers. Every page is laden with references to scripture or dogma. But it does not do much to address the challenges of modern Christian living, with its competing material, professional, and financial distractions. Nonetheless, this is probably an excellent resource for devout Christians who crave a jumpstart back to worshipfulness. --Gail HudsonBook Description
The most basic question everyone faces in life is "Why am I here?". What is my purpose? Self-help books suggest that people should look within, at their own desires and dreams, but Rick Warren says the starting place must be with God—and His eternal purpose for each life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling God’s purposes for putting us on earth.Download Description
Another Landmark Book by Rick Warren. You are not an accident. Even before the universe was created, God had you in mind, and he planned you for his purposes. These purposes will extend far beyond the few years you will spend on earth. You were made to last forever! Self-help books often suggest that you try to discover the meaning and purpose of your life by looking within yourself, but Rick Warren says that is the wrong place to start. You must begin with God, your Creator, and his reasons for creating you. You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense. This book will help you understand why you are alive and God's amazing plan for you-both here and now, and for eternity. Rick Warren will guide you through a personal 40-day spiritual journey that will transform your answer to life's most important question: What on earth am I here for? Knowing God's purpose for creating you will reduce your stress, focus your energy, simplify your decisions, give meaning to your life, and, most importantly, prepare you for eternity. The Purpose-DrivenT Life is a blueprint for Christian living in the 21st century-a lifestyle based on God's eternal purposes, not cultural values. Using over 1,200 scriptural quotes and references, it challenges the conventional definitions of worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism. In the tradition of Oswald Chambers, Rick Warren offers distilled wisdom on the essence of what life is all about. This is a book of hope and challenge that you will read and re-read, and it will be a classic treasured by generations to come.Customer Reviews:

Conditional Moment Estimation of Nonlinear Equation Systems: With an Application to an Oligopoly Model of Cooperative R&D (Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems)
Joachim Inkmann Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 3540412077 |
Book Description
Generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation of nonlinear systems has two important advantages over conventional maximum likelihood (ML) estimation: GMM estimation usually requires less restrictive distributional assumptions and remains computationally attractive when ML estimation becomes burdensome or even impossible. This book presents an in-depth treatment of the conditional moment approach to GMM estimation of models frequently encountered in applied microeconometrics. It covers both large sample and small sample properties of conditional moment estimators and provides an application to empirical industrial organization. With its comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of the subject which includes topics like bootstrapping and empirical likelihood techniques, the book addresses scientists, graduate students and professionals in applied econometrics.

The Dynamics of Inequality and Poverty: Comparing Income Distributions
John Creedy Manufacturer: Edward Elgar Publishing ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1858988012 |
Book Description
This important book uses empirical evidence to model and measure aggregate poverty and income dynamics in order to design appropriate policies to alleviate poverty. The book first provides an introduction to the measurement of inequality and poverty, using the Lorenz curve and the Gini and Atkinson measures. The author then draws together a number of studies concerned with the analysis of income distribution in both cross-sectional and lifetime contexts. He presents statistical models of income distribution and income mobility and examines the relationship between annual and lifetime distributions. The models are tested using US data from the current population survey to evaluate the empirical characteristics of income distribution. The book then turns to the evaluation of alternative tax and transfer systems and the debate over the use of means-testing. The author analyzes income dynamics, particularly the relationship between relative income mobility, inequality and social welfare. He then examines income dynamics in New Zealand for males and females using data collected by the Inland Revenue department to specify a simulation model of lifetime incomes. He concludes that information about the process of income dynamics is needed in order to implement appropriate policies to counteract poverty. The Dynamics of Inequality and Poverty will be essential reading for students and scholars of public sector economics, welfare economics and economic sociology.
