1 out of 5 stars don't waste your money!!.......2005-09-24

This book was written in 2002!! It shouldn't even be for sale anymore because almost half of the websites don't even exist anymore - that being nature of the internet most sites only last 6 months. By the way - just use google and you'll at least fine up to date information. Big big disapointment and lost dollar await you if you buy this rag.

5 out of 5 stars A must have resource.......2003-09-07

Whether you're interested in robots, hobby electronics, or diy electronics, this is a great addition to your reference library. One of the best features is that McComb describes and explains the concepts for a lot of the category of parts that are in the book (for example, motors, gears, all sorts of sensors, materials, etc.) He also marks the vendors that he's used in the past, so it's easy to find a trustworthy vendor if you don't have time to look into all the vendors that he lists.
You will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars What a great reference book!.......2003-08-16

This book covers all aspects of technology for building robots, as well as any many other "inventions". I found this to be of exceptional value. The web site inventory is tremendous. If this book is updated every couple of years, I will be back for another. No doubt, this was a great investment in information. The cover is a bit cartoonish for such a great reference.

5 out of 5 stars Not Just for Robotics.......2003-06-30

This book is a fantastic source for just about any hobby you can think of. One source alone was worth the price of the book to me. McComb has researched tons of stuff and presented it all in a very usable and unbiased format. If you love to tinker with things, I cannot reccomend this book highly enough. Not only does it present you with lots of good sources, but it is also filled with great tips in many different areas.

Great Resouce!!!!

4 out of 5 stars A Robotic Combat Competitor's View.......2002-10-30

The Robot Builder's Sourcebook in many ways a must buy for those who are going to start off building their first Battlebot(TM). The skills to be resourceful and save money are very important in robotic combat, not to mention the ability to get those special custom parts to get your bot running. With Robot Builder's Sourcebook, you are provided with an Internet yellow pages of sorts to save valuable time wandering through links. Although unfortunately I have found that, due to the fast growing nature of the sport, not to mention the Internet, some valuable sites have inevitably been overlooked or outdated. But this is a small price to pay for its convenience in finding parts and great prices it provides.
The sourcebook also inserts several "mini-articles" that provides some basic information and tips that will certainly be useful to many types of robot builders. However I found that the articles and tips pages crowd the book and are impeding to the true purpose of its pages as a quick reference. This can be especially extraneous if you have specified interests concerning robotics, such as robotic combat. The articles can serve valuable purpose though and definitely are a must have for those who still need aid in implementing/buying the right parts for their robot. A choppy read, as expected, but well worth the money for its usefulness.

Honestly, the sentence structure in this book is so dismal that it is challenging to read. I'm not sure if I'll read anymore out of my own copy - and I just read two pages after opening to the chapter on cointegration.

Nattily decked out in string ties, flop-brimmed Panama hat, and flaming red suspenders, and punctuating his stories with a booming "I ga-ron-tee!," Wilson projects authentic Cajun Humor instantly recognized by anyone who has visited the Louisiana bayou country.

1 out of 5 stars This was so BAD!.......2000-05-25

This book was NOT FUNNY! For the life of me, I have no idea why people find his 'Cajun' humor amusing. First of all, he uses one of the worst fake Cajun accents around. Second, his 'stories' are actually considered insulting and demeaning to most decent cajun people. This book was totally uncalled for.

                      5 out of 5 stars Justin - That unknown stand-up comedian.......2000-05-03

If you enjoy laughing at clean jokes that are truly funny and without malice, Justin is as good as Robin Williams (no histrionics though) on a good day, funnier than Dan Ackroyd in his movies.

Mr. Wilson has two talents: cooking with a smile and spicy recipes for making people laugh.

A must see, must read and must get to know person both in print and the media.

5 out of 5 stars This book is absolutely hilarious.......2003-01-18

I've seen a little of Jesse Duplantis on video in the past, so I haven't heard many of his sermons. This book has brought encouragement to my heart and spirit - he's vulnerable, frank, and tell-it-like-it-is. The most important component of the book is that each chapter story ends with a powerful lesson in daily living. To be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, to be obedient - no matter what the cost, and to remember that God sees even when no one else is looking. The recipes are humorous and easy to understand - unlike other Cajun recipes I've seen! Unable to compare this book to a knowledge of his sermons and usual writing style, I rate this book an empathic 5 stars!

4 out of 5 stars Great Stories but Questionable Recipes.......2001-09-13

Some of the recipes didn't sound too good- but many of them are very good. My husband has had a ball trying to make many of them. The stories are funny, yet most of them bring home their point very well. I appreciated that this was not in your face Christian writing, but rather gentle reminders that we all need to take care of ourselves spiritually.

                      3 out of 5 stars Oh boy..........2000-12-12

When I bought this book to read I thought it was going to be stories that Jesse has told before, rewritten in great detail with time and thought put into them, but if you've seen his videos (A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like a Medicine) these are just transcripts of those stories, word by word. It's sad because it's his storytelling that's so hilarious, and he'll scream and hoot and hollar and make noise... but in the book, things that made you fall on the floor laughing during the videos were dumbed down into long drawn out phrases like "Brrrrrrgggffff rafffffftaffff" and it's barely amusing. The only thing this book is really good for is if you want the cajun recipes, otherwise I suggest checking out his videos.

                        Book Description

A Cajun man's wife really wanted a pair of alligator shoes. She'd been bugging him about it for years. One day, he saw a gator in the road, and when that gator ran straight into the swamp, that henpecked husband followed him and caught him. He wrestled that gator to the ground, flipped him on his back, and said, "You know, he ain't got on one damn shoe."

Cajuns don't care who the joke is on, as long as there is a joke. I ga-ron-tee! And no one was better at telling these spunky tales than the most outspoken Cajun of them all--Justin Wilson.

Written in authentic Cajun dialect, "More Cajun Humor" is a collection of humorous stories recounting the antics of Wilson's bayou buddies, from the high-jumping bear hunter to Catfish Joe.

I was very close to my Grandfather and this Tommy Joe Breaux brings back a lot of the memories I had forgotten about. I can tell why his 2 books are titled Cajun Humor from the Heart and Stories my Granpa tole me because they are not only funny but show his work is nothing about selling books etc they are about his GranPa. Once you read the introduction in Cajun Stories my GranPa tole me you will want to buy everything this author has to offer.

                          Book Description

Hey dere--looky here! An award-winning illustrator and a master storyteller team up to create a colorful picture book filled with that unique Cajun spirit and language. Children of all ages will sure be "passin' a good time" with this one-of-a-kind tale.

Come visit Louisiana, land of crawfish and zydeco, where four old men--Bubby, Dumbo, Hebert, and Rigger Moritz--search through the dreamy lowlands to find the perfect place to play their game of cards. The open air seems grand in the spring--when it "shore does look nice outside," but as the weather gets colder, the men start to shiver, so they begin building...and building...and building. Soon, they've constructed an elaborate house!
But when the cool air subsides and the sweet jasmine-scented breezes blow again, the men discover that what they really want is the simple life once more.

Peppered with colorful Cajun lingo, and brightly seasoned with Luc Melanson's whimsical art, this terrific tale treats kids to all the beauty and humor of Louisiana-style storytelling.

I have read this book to 5 of my 6 grandchildren, from age 6 to 13 and they all loved it. They laughed through out the story. They have taken turns reading it to each other. The illustrations are also very funny. I have rated it 5 stars because the children it was written for have given it a thumbs up and I thought it was funny too.

My six year old grandson and I read the book together and we both loved it. We were entertained not only by the story, but also by the wonderful illustrations. We loved the humor and laughed out loud together. I would recommend this book for all ages!

I have given this book to 4 of my grandchildren and they all have a different response and each response is extremely positive. One said it's the best book he ever read. I am glad there are books such as this available for children (and adults)

Atchity knows what he's talking about. The pithy sayings herein have been collected over a lifetime, not only from the kitchens where big family dinners were eaten, but the back porches where some of the best talking happened after the cousins had gone home. Spelling-wise, he sets down the collected sayings mostly as his ear caught them and how they're pronounced in French Louisiana (e.g. sha instead of the French cher). He throws in a small glossary at the end of the book, and where the sayings need extra context (not often), adds a little commentary.

"If he's so smart, how come he allays has sumptin' ta do?"

"You in big trouble w'en you have ta apologize foh bein' yo'self."

"You doan got ta look too much below de surface if you got enough surface." (With a short paragraph explaining how in rice farming country, land doesn't have to have gold in it or oil under it; a lot of land in itself is good.)

"Dere got ta be sumptin' ta him - 'cause nobody laks him."

"She's as noivous as de cat in a room full of rockers."

"Doan waste yo' time wid little t'oughts. Scare yo'self big!"

Not that the book is *just* family wisdom; Atchity alternates batches of sayings with small primers about the Cajun way, as well as some candid photos. :) "How Dey Got Dis-A-Way" (just what it says, which also points out that "Creole" is defined one way in South Louisiana where Atchity was born, and another way in New Orleans - and that New Orleans is distinct from 'South Louisiana'.). In "Learning the Ropes", Atchity illustrates a typical characteristic (doing everything 'in a way 10 times harder than necessary') with his mother's long fight to bring in a catfish - and she *still* hadn't brought a net (photo to prove that it took 3 of her lures). "A Happy Death" (at Jax Brewery) is a good story. "Vivre Pour Manger: Live to Eat" (love that Cajun food), "Life Preservers in the Sea of Stories" (Churchill *stole* that alligator story!), and "Poetic Justice" ('nother good funny story).
