Engineer's Best Friend!.......2007-09-13
I am a Mechanical Engineer in the Aerospace/Defense industry, and if my work caught on fire and I could save only one book during my escape, this would be it! Any Engineer, Machinist, Mechanic, etc., basically anyone who deals with machinery, should get this book. It provides the utmost in reference. I would highly recommend making the investment and buying your own, since I would not let anyone borrow my copy (unless I took a $100 deposit, but then again everyone at my work has one). Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering students should at least borrow a copy when they take machine design class, since it will supplement your textbook and give you a taste of real-world application of fasteners, machine elements, etc. A must have! Just buy it and you'll wonder how you ever got by without it.
good comprehensive reference.......2007-07-17
I love the large print, definitely glad i did not get the old microprint version. I feel like the tables are a bit out of date, who doesn't use a CAM, excel, or a calculator to convert RPM and SFM? I'd recommend looking at the CD version just for searchability.

This book is extremely helpful for mechanical design. It has all of the hard-to-find information needed for detailed part design, like screw thread specifications, gearing information, fastener dimensions and ratings...it even has charts describing necessary clearances for different kinds of wrenches. This is one of the most helpful books I have.
I highly recommend the large print version...I think they should call it the 'still-small-but-readable' version, and the regular one should be called the 'really-really tiny print' version. The CD is just a pdf of the book. It is handy because the pages are linked directly to the table of contents, so it is easy to find things. Also, it allows digital markup so you can highlight and makes notes. If you are involved anywhere in the process of design or machining you should own a copy of this book.
Acrobat 7 is supported; patch required.......2006-08-15
Industrial Press has a notice on their website that Acrobat 7 will now work as long as it is patched to version 7.0.5. Just an update from the earlier review which states that Acrobat 7 is not supported at all, which it probably wasn't when it was written.
the MH cd and adobe.......2005-09-09
The book is of course excellent. However the cd is anoying because the authors somehow did not make it upwardly compatable with the newest version of adobe reader (7.x). Therefore one needs to remove the latest version of adobe reader and install version 6.x . The two versions of adobe reader are not allowed to exist on a windows system at the same time.
Machinery's Handbook Edition 27.......2005-07-27
This book is the industry standard for engineering and manufacturing data and calculations. The included CD allows the entire book (plus extras not in the book) to be viewed with Adobe Acrobat from a computer. Unfortunately, it can only be run from one computer at a time due to the online registration process. They were kind enough to give me another code so I could also run it from my laptop. Definately a must for geeky mechanical engineers and the like.

This is nothing but overly secured PDF file that takes more time to use than the old book. This is poorly done with no effort towards user interface. An internet connection is required for the live math to work. I use the book often and was exited to see it on CD. I am extremely disapointed by the CD version. I think I will stick with the book until they decide to actually make a PC version that is useful. I

I have been very disappointed with the Machinery's Handbook CD that I received about 4 weeks ago. Could never get it to open. I reinstalled it several times along with the agony of reinstalling adobe 7.0.8 along with the plug-in. Very frustrating and annoying that your program is wound up so tight for security, I guess, that you can't even open it up. I finally called your number for technical help and the recorder was full and wouldn't accept another call. What does that tell you???????????? T talked to one of your customer reps. and he tried to blame it on adobe. I don't have any problems with abobe with any other programs that it opens. Yours it toooooooo secure for it's own good and a piece of junk. I followed his instructions by down-loading a plug-in from the Industrial Press home page. It still wouldn't work. It shuts down and goes right to the desktop when I try to open it. The CD is now long gone in the dumpster and I'm so mad, I don't even want a refund.
Another guy in our engineering office also can't open the same program and feels the same way I do. Your Associate H.N. could not help him with 3 attempts. That sucks!!!! I'll try and spread the word about your product and believe me, I won't be buying any more of your products from the catalog that came witht the CD.

How many books do you want to buy that are $100. each? The answer is not too many and if you do buy you want something of value that will last. You do not want five books on all different aspects of the field.
Here is one book that is comprehensive covering most major subjects including machines, tools, strength of materials, fasteners, set ups, cutters, cutting speeds, measurement. introduction to CAD, etc but all at a professional level with many reference tables.
It is a well made book with a nice cover that stands up to a shop environment.
The book will probably have a 10-20 year shelf life. I run a small shop that includes Bridgeport type mills, lathes, boring machines, welding, etc. We have a typical small shop and we work with stainless steel and aluminum mainly as other shops but we also do exotic nickel alloys, ceramics, and copper, etc. I must consult this book weekly. It is proven itself to be useful. In almost every case in the past it has provided the needed guidance to run a machine or some critical design number such as a screw strength when needed.
Five stars, you cannot go wrong.

I just got out of college and my boss just keep asking me if I had got the book yet because I always needed to barrow his. This book has every mechanical piece of info you could ever need. well worth the price they charge considering it could replace all my college books worth over 1000 dollars.

Jawanza Kunjufu is always sincere in his works, and this book is no diffrent. And while I can't see this book motivating our youth;It's still a great tool for parents and teachers alike. I could not give the book five stars because, brother Kunjufu stress employment instead of business ownership, which shows how old school he is, and also the age of this work. This genaration is about The Hustler mindset. The idea he has that "some work is better then none" is outdated. This book is like my computer it needs an upgrade. It the 2k's we get our hustle game on my brother!...

This book is for fans of Masamune Shirow's science fiction comic book epic Appleseed. One of the elements that sets Shirow's manga (including his popular Ghost in the Shell book) apart from other comics is his incredible attention to the details of his fictional world, including its history, its science, its technology, and its politics. For readers who can't get enough of this detail, Appleseed Databook is the book for you. It contains detailed global maps and a chapter titled "Guns: The More You Know the More Interesting They Are." Although this book contains a 48-page comics short story, which is Chapter 26 of the complete Appleseed saga, it's not very conducive to new readers. However, if you only have a later volume of the series and want the back story filled in, this book is great.

This databook on Appleseed gives you a pretty detailed history in the form of a time line, a world map, page after page on weapons, ammo, police methods, mecha and backgrounds on the many characters. Also tons of artwork and a cool short story that helps bring it all together.

This book is the ultimate accesory for the Shirow fan who has everything. Besides providing another chapter to the vast Appleseed saga, this book explains everything you could want to know about the world of Appleseed and more besides. It details the fascinating mecha, the cool guns, the intricate political system of Olympus, even the specific tactics used by ESWAT. All this makes for a rather daunting book for newcomers to the series, but will satisfy ven the most ardent fan.
